[Q]About things that seems to not work with 7 Pro - Windows Phone 7 General

Hello.
I've just got my hands on a HTC 7 Pro.
But, it seems some things don't work anymore.
I can't get to have transparent Lockscreen. The transparents parts stays Black. Even with using files made for WP7 from other users.
Can't get to Chevron the phone too. I can launch Chevron, but when it's working, it stops saying the phone can't be reached.
Does someone have some ideas or if Mircrosoft made some updates for news phones ?
Thanks.

I noticed that on the 7 Pro you can set the clock to auto while on my Mozart with same OS versionnumber this is not possible. The atempt to unlock the phone via official MS tool did not succeeded (clock setting error). So there seem to be some changes have been made.

So I'm not crazy, they really made changes.

For the transparent lock screens, did you copy them from Zune to your phone? Saving them in IE on the phone does not work as it loses the alpha channel.

Mail them to you, and make sure they retain their PNG extension.

Thanks to you, but it's how I've done. That's what is strange. I'll take à deeper look. (Edit: Found Why. My work's mail servers do some strange thinks to my png's. From my home, it works -_-)
But do someone know if some phones can't be unlocked by Chevron ?

what?
u think there's a chance that there are different implementations of the exploits on different phones, thats why it can't be unlocked?

I don't know. That's why I'm asking.

anyone???
i have to get a phone, and it's down to dell and the 7 pro
the INability of the 7 pro to be unlocked and the venue pro's instability is really putting me between a rock and a hard place....

after the coming update all phones would be on the same level i believe.

The MOST annoying thing about WM6?

For me it would be the fact that it STILL has
the same greyish, blocky scrollbars as Windows 3.1 had....
You'd imagine they would have revamped those by now...
That is a minor quibble. Personally I do not see anything wrong with WM6... yet.
Most of us here are still happy that at least we are getting WM6
If anything I had a bit of quibble with Opera and its interaction with WM5\WM6 but then again, that is a software issue.
Yeah, if that's all you have to complain about in WM6, I think you're LOOKING for things to complain about.
Like the "Error Syncronizing" problem in Outlook, that no one but me seems to have seen; or the Calendar problem where Month is always the default view, no matter what's chosen in Options... These are legit. problems, not just complaints.

I am running LVSW Edition 2007-03-25 and do not have this problem with calendar, maybe it is your version.

Try UIQ for a month, you`ll hate PPC
WM6 has a lot to learn, as I see it on WM6 we have many stolen UIQ features.
Microsoft still has a lot to learn, a WM6 device just wont work as a normal phone and switch to "PDA Mode" when you need it.
UIQ has done it, you have a perfectly working phone with access to all the main features, with a flip of a switch you can transfer yourself to a fully featured PDA.
hm, the most annoying thing you say.
yeah , can think of 1 - a minor issue yet very annoying.
the busy signal comes out of the loudspeaker (as it did in wm5) !
i hate it. yeah of course you can delete the signal or change ir to a very quiet one, yet ...

I do use UIQ3 on my M600, and I'm not impressed in the least. It has it's own set of problems... Stability for one. It's better than it was, but it still isn't great.
As for stolen features, that's crap... name one feature WM6 stole from UIQ. I beg you...
I beg to differ

you are using UIQ3 - don't know that OS yet.
stolen features?
what about the new "week view" of calender? it`s entire functionality is copied from UIQ 2.1, what about the softkeys finally they copied the ability to navigate the device features?
stability, I used a p900 - for 2 years - 3!! HR(and I was to BLAME)
PPC? - cant count any more, a buggy program can crash your device until the next HR.
most of WM6 design targets declared where for a better use:
stability
speed
usability
Hmm, I had a P900 and the P910 (still use it from time to time) My friend has the Sony P990 (UIQ3). If you want to see problems with UIQ3 use a P990, admittedly most of it is hardware related but even on the M600 you will find problems.
The only way you can compare these two is to only run them on default software and never install 3rd party apps!! I have run 3rd party apps on my P900/P910 and had to do many soft resets etc even with popular apps (Sman etc)
I am so glad that I moved from UIQ(X) to WM(X) as just the increase in productivity software available to me has made it worth it alone! BTW my M3100 running the latest variant of WM6 is rock solid.
Oh & haven't you heard the expression there's nothing new under the sun. Everybody 'steals' from everybody else.

Well I havent taken the plunge to WM6 yet, still on WM5, but yes... having migrated from UIQ on several previous phones, I find WM to be an abomination of undocumented, overcompicated and non-integrated bloatware.
The saving features, however, are that it's the only OS I can get on such great hardware (Hermes), and there is such a massive user base that like Windows for PCs, there is loads of great software and support from forums like this.
and here i thought the most annoying thing was that the soft buttons were reversed on the bubble breaker game

The real most annoying feature - the thing just does not work. Period. It's a glorified organizer. It's a toy for geeks like us. It's anything but the reliable tool you can depend on. Radio, messaging, alarms / reminders - they all have [not] mind and schedules of their own ... actually M$ implanted brain farts

SSSHHH! You were not supposed to reveal that information!
But it is true... The look on the face of my GF when I have to restart my phone before I can make a call or when everything freezes when adding an appointment....
On my original post: the scrollbars might be a minor thing but it is something I see almost everytime I use this machine.
although I have not used UIQ for a while last one was uiq 2.1 i think or was it 3?
It was a very good os and stable.
but doesnt look as pretty as windows mobile.
Although its better programed and runs better on lower speed processors,
reminds me of the linux v windows situation.
pros and cons to both.
I like windows its pleasing to the eye
I'm sure this can be fixed, but i've search and haven't found a solution yet, so here goes, the most annoying thing about WM6 for is:
In WM5 (standard T-Mobile UK rom) i had a link in Start Menu for "Running Programs" this took me straight to Start->Settings->System->Memory->Running Programs, i would like to create a link on my WM6 that takes me straight here too, but i dont know how?
the thing I hate so far is they (in WM6) still dont allow you to quickley dial a meeting number.... like I used to do in a blackberry...... thats the only thing I find really annoying...
I sould be able to choose a reminder and if there is a number value in there I should be able to choose it to dail.....
one fo my biggest complaints.
in s60 phones when I was sent a concatenated message it would display as one contigious message.
in Wm5/Wm6 a concatenated message is displayed as several messages and sometimes they come in out of order which is really annoying.
if anyone knows of a fix for this short of using an alternate messaging app please let me know.
My biggest issue is that I cannot connect to my office VPN using Internet sharing, worked perfectly in WM5 as a wireless modem, normal browsing is ok.
Malcolm
Most annoying thing...
(1) Boot time is incredibly slow, at last count 40 seconds from reset to ability to make a call
(2) I still cannot send text messages to 'groups' - major gripe from WM5 followed through
(3) Text Messaging - New has been replaced by Delete as the initial text message screen (possibly a setting I havent found yet)
Major speed advantage so far though...

That actually wasn't WM5 but an addition by T-Mobile.
You could use X-button to close programmes completely instead of making them run in the background. That way you don't even have to go into 'running programmes'.

[REQ]Zune-style lock screen

fellow developers...i was wondering that is there a zune style lock screen available for ppc or is anyone willing making this ...i hv posted a pic of the zune lock screen ... hopefully devs can start weiving their magic on this
http://www.tek-nos.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/ZuneHD.jpg
thats pretty cool looking i wonder if someone can just get it from the dump and port it from wm7 to 6.5
I have a Zune and hate that lock screen, always freezes. Then again, not many people have that problem, and it probably would be on the winmo version anyways
Zune HD ROM dump:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=564591
the closest u can come currently is pocketshield although it slides down not up to unlock (which does and doesn't feel natural depending on how big ur hands are) its skinnable and simple (u won't need most of the settings)
thnx guys for your reply, but i dont think pocket shield is that great though, but it is the only program which is the nearest to the zune lock screen.
I found that Pocketshield is one of the lightest most feature rich locks out there, it offers 5-6 different ways to lock the device doesn't lag and works like a charm. if it wasn't for S2U2(and the fact that it works with S2P) I would easily have gone with this program.

[Q] Windows Phone 7 - HTC Tilt 2

Hello,
Did someone ever try to upgrade the Tilt 2 for Windows Phone 7? I saw in the HTC site that is not possible, but I trust more on you guys....
tks!
Do you know how to use the lovely "Search" feature?
How many times has this been answered... NO WE CANT RUN WP7 on our phones
oohhh... tks for the tip about the search... I don't know how I survive without it...
No will never happen...its just not good enough hardware to run it...
WC
You can't just say wp7 isn't good enough for our devices? I've checked out the "surround"...it can have wp7 for all I care
you misunderstand, it's that this phone doesn't meet the hardware requirements for windows phone 7.
What about flashing the htc with android? Instead of loading the linux boot loader and android os on the sd card?
I'd love to make this phone more of an android phone then a dual booted device. Haven't seen it yet. Was hoping it would be possible.

We can't really do this yet because not all of the android builds are stable enough to be flashed to the tilt
Why would you want to DOWNGRADE to wp7. I have tried it and it doesn't matter about the hardware concerns because the software is so ridiculous that I would never use it again
WP7 is a huge step...in the wrong direction.
hypothetically even if you could get wm7 on it, its a slow processor, low ram and no captive touch screen. even if it did work, I would just stick to 6.5 because it would still be much more useable.
Video of Windows Phone 7 on Touch Pro 2; Could this be possible and usable?
I saw a video on youtube of a Touch Pro 2 with Windows Phone 7 (7.3 I believe, I don't know much about WP7 at all), and I have exchanged a message with the ROM creator, and he claims that a version will be ready in December.
Here is a quick link to it: (I can't post a link yet, sorry about the spacing between http)
h t t p://youtu.be/WRBYvvKRKG0
I wonder if apps can be installed, and wheter or not they're actually usable.
Please look into someone, if you can! =)
Thanks a lot.

Updated Registry Editor

I have updated a registry editor (that works with HTC devices) that I found here on xda to work with non-interop unlocked devices (viewing only). If you want to edit entries you will have to add the interop line to the manifest file manually. If you don't know how to do this then look it up .
If the OP of this app has any issue with me doing this please contact me and I will take it down.
I made is so the search bar is hidden by default
Added Icons for folder vs. entry
Added custom splash and icons
Made it so you can use the back button. No more having to click [..]
Interop unlock not needed
Added a few paths that were missing from the old version
Added tilt effect to selected item in the list view. This makes it easier to identify which item you are actually clicking on
Added an exit button to close the application since you might not want to have to hit back a bunch of times.
If you have any suggestions please feel free to tell me
2011-11-17: Added exception handling
bleh, just realized I'm an idiot
I am glad I could be of service
Thank you a lot,great App!
It does not works on my HD2 does anyone tested working on HD2
THX, works fine on htc 7 pro
It does not works on my HD2.
So if this is a registry editor that works on mango htc devices.
Couldn't we interop unlock our HTC devices by just setting the max apps above 300?
I'm upgrading to mango this weekend and I would love to interop unlock my device so I can attempt to get internet sharing working.
With a cdma Sprint Arrive, there is no custom bootloader so interop unlocking is our only shot to get internet sharing working right now

App does not work on VZW HTC Trophy. It tries to launch for a second and then closes. Wonder if this is due to having the HTC updates that came after Mango?
On my fully updated HD7 with 7.10.7720 that is chevon unlocked, this app opens then closes right back. It allows me to see the screen for like half a sec.

What is the FULL version that you are running and what ROM are you using (stock or custom)?
For example my Radar is 7.10.7720.68
Stock 7.10.7720.68 - my phone is in my sig. Thanks
Hmm. I will test it on my sister's HD7 and see if I can debug it. Strange thing is I am not using anything that is specific to the Radar. Thank you for the Full version number. Those last 2 digits do help
There have been issues with some versions of DllImport on HTC Mango phones. The latest one works on my HD7 though. However, this app does not.
7720.68 (Retail build) but none of the HTC updates (so ComRegRW and ComFileRW still work). Speaking of which, I notice you've included them in the XAP - considering that they're useless on most HTC phones, that's not terribly good use of storage.
Love the icon/splash screen though. Also, thank you for not installing in the Settings hub; I actually really am not much of a fan of that.
Can you link me to a dll import file that does work on your device? I can update the code to see if that helps.
1.4 with the custom tile system seems to work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006331. 1.3 didn't work for me, though I don't know why.
Hi,
it's really a nice looking register editor but unfortunately it doesn't work on my hd7, deepshining v3.1, 7.10.7720.68
i'm ready to use it instead of schaps one so...strenght & bravery bro!
Works on my titan. Really neat looking app.
Turns out it must be the NativeLibrary or the DMXMLCOM.dll that are giving people issues.
I just added some exception handling to the xap. Please re-download and try again. Provide me with the exception it throws.

Windows 8 and what it holds for the future

Hey,
I just installed the Consumer Preview, and I think we can find hints to WP8 in it.
For example, various hubs found on WP are in W8. An interesting one is the Messaging hub, which like on WP allow you to chat with your Facebook and Messenger contacts, I think the next logical step is SMS syncing.
Another thing I noticed is that Zune and Windows Media Player is completely missing. There's a seperate music and video player.
Also, when I plug in my HTC HD7 nothing happens. It doesn't say installing drivers, Phone found, .. nothing.
There are also a lot of mentions of syncing throughout the OS, syncing with other devices and users. I think this will eventually mean that alle info from your Phone can be seamlessly synced to your PC and vice versa, making things a whole lot easier when you buy a new phone. Just plug in, sync and go.
There are tons of similarities too.
Multitasking is much the same, you also get a small preview window of the app.
What did you find?
I pary every day that they change their minds and not release it for laptops or PC's. It's greate for touch screens and pads though but just doesn't feel the same on non touch devices; MS will be making a big mistake if they go through with making people use a mouse and keyboard on theire PC's and non touch screen laptops.
Im using it with a mouse, and it's just fine, I dont find it hard or unnatural to use.
Some ideas are brilliant and very innovative, like metro style switching between apps, screens etc.
But at the same time it's like a double OS what is just nonsense. Two different IE10? Idiotic. No background image under tiles? Tacky.
I think they have to unite it somehow, it's still looks like a half baked beta. I won't install this stuff on my PC.
I seriously have no idea what drives these guys, but it all looks like a half way through.
^^ You really would just be happier in Apple / Linux land.

Why?? I'm perfectly happy on Windows 7 64bit!
Super stable, nice looking, great features.
And a great environment for proffessional work, in my case music. Apps I use work great.
As I said, I wish Windows 8 beeing united without loosing current usability and ADDING some great 8's features.
They just want to push some stuff too much.
BTW, I seriously don't like Apple stuff at all.

they did that because some people would complain about being forced into metro, which isn't the case. But I guess either way they get complaints.

Well Zune was never preinstalled and when I connect my WP7 to a Windows 7 PC without Zune, it doesn't do anything either.
Windows Media Player is still there but it is just the desktop app.

no big MS stuff about windows phones
I tried Windows 8. It's not very good at all as a computer OS. I'm a power user, and I was totally lost. I can only imagine how confused your average Joe will be.

You were lost because you hadn't worked with it. Same as if you picked up an ipad for the 1st time, a phone with a different O/S, ect. It took me about 8 hours to get the gist of the flow. Once i did though, man it's fast. I wish though the ep121 tablet i have had the resolution for snap though. That's a little dissapointing. Other than that, it's fast and smooth and actually now i wish the desktop was gone completely and everything metro.
Also anyone else have any issues with the USA today app? Seems to crash on and off on me. Other than that everything seems very stable and i LOVE the onscreen keyboard. Nothing like the crap that i had to use with Windows 7 on the tablet.
Great news

Just read comprehensive review of current Win8.
Must say: MICROSOFT WAKE UP!
Windows 8 is the most unintuitive crap I've seen.
Layers instead of logic.
Just hope it's just another beta and some sensible people will take care of this idiocy.
As I said before, improvements have to have sense.

And yes, average Joe will have no freaking idea what is this.
