[Q] Windows Phone 7 - HTC Tilt 2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hello,
Did someone ever try to upgrade the Tilt 2 for Windows Phone 7? I saw in the HTC site that is not possible, but I trust more on you guys....
tks!

Do you know how to use the lovely "Search" feature?
How many times has this been answered... NO WE CANT RUN WP7 on our phones

oohhh... tks for the tip about the search... I don't know how I survive without it...

No will never happen...its just not good enough hardware to run it...
WC

You can't just say wp7 isn't good enough for our devices? I've checked out the "surround"...it can have wp7 for all I care

you misunderstand, it's that this phone doesn't meet the hardware requirements for windows phone 7.

What about flashing the htc with android? Instead of loading the linux boot loader and android os on the sd card?
I'd love to make this phone more of an android phone then a dual booted device. Haven't seen it yet. Was hoping it would be possible.

We can't really do this yet because not all of the android builds are stable enough to be flashed to the tilt

Why would you want to DOWNGRADE to wp7. I have tried it and it doesn't matter about the hardware concerns because the software is so ridiculous that I would never use it again

WP7 is a huge step...in the wrong direction.

hypothetically even if you could get wm7 on it, its a slow processor, low ram and no captive touch screen. even if it did work, I would just stick to 6.5 because it would still be much more useable.

Video of Windows Phone 7 on Touch Pro 2; Could this be possible and usable?
I saw a video on youtube of a Touch Pro 2 with Windows Phone 7 (7.3 I believe, I don't know much about WP7 at all), and I have exchanged a message with the ROM creator, and he claims that a version will be ready in December.
Here is a quick link to it: (I can't post a link yet, sorry about the spacing between http)
h t t p://youtu.be/WRBYvvKRKG0
I wonder if apps can be installed, and wheter or not they're actually usable.
Please look into someone, if you can! =)
Thanks a lot.

Does a Linux on Rhodium project exist ?
If not, are there some compatible distros ?
well, it would have to be out for the hackers to start tinkering with. Rest asured that once it is the people here at XDA-dev will be hard at work trying to get android running smothly on it.

Can Android support 800x480 resolutions. I haven't been following up the Android system but most handsets I've seen only support HVGA.
given the fact that they have it running on the touch HD i would say yes it does support it, just companies beleive that more than HVGA is not necessary!

Yeah, it really does work but very buggy. It's looks cool tho. Never thought of installing the Android on the HD. Hope it will finalised so I can try it. If it works on the HD, then maybe it will work for the TP2
well viperbjk is almost at par with jtag and then we can write successful commands on the nand memory of blackstone aka touch hd. once it is done .. the developers will follow up a quckie guide on how to install android on the touch hd. since xmooo, left the project in between ... it has been a dead and for the end users like me and us .. who have only less knowledge of things we wish to learn ..

Yeah, I was reading the discuss thread, it was so long, I only read every other page and saw a lot work done by xmooo... he left the project? I saw the videos he has made and it looked like he was so close to finishing it. What a shame. Hope someone will find a way to finishing the project with cupcakes. I only found out today that this project was going on... I want to find out more now. The only thing that stopped me from getting the magic was it's screen res. Now I know I can get the Android on HD, I getting excited about it being on the TP2.
As Android gets further along in life I'm sure it will become much easier to install on 3rd party phones. Right now it's just a bit of a headache. The tools have to be developed and put in place to handle the wide range of hardware. It's not like PCs where that work has already been largely done. I wish it was as simple as download ubuntu and installing it on a desktop is, but it's not. Someday I think it will be.
So is there any update on developing/porting linux to Rhodium?
Is it possible now for Rhodium to run Angstrom/GPE/Openmoko/Debian, etc?
I would prefer proper linux over Android because of the closed userland of the latter.
PS
Saw this right after posting: Angstrom running on Touch Pro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzZRxEgu440

The video you posted was to VRHologram, not Angstrom on a Touch HD.
As for Android: they devs are working on it, but AFAIK they're still trying to get it to boot. It'll be slow going for a while, but hopefully development will pick up once they get it booting. I personally would love to see a Maemo or Debian distribution for the Rhodium, but we don't have many developers, so it'll probaby be Android for a while. At least once they get the hardware supported in HaRET, other distros should be much easier to run.
Thanks for the update. I have already corrected the youtube link.
Although I enjoy debian on my Universal, I would jump to Rhodium in a heartbeat as soon as it runs debian (or any of its variants). The form factor of Rhodium is just more enticing.

What are the phones that will be compatible??

There are all sorts of threads except this one, the main topic. Will the current phones that are running the official and the aahemm...not so official WinMo 6.5 have an easy upgrade, the new OS looks stunning and I don't want anything but that OS ON MY PHONE...I don't care what it doesn't have..I JUST WANT IT....
I have an X1, running Spike's Infinite...so the big Q...Can I have it???
THANX!
Hoping Touch HD will be ok.
Touch HD2 will be lucky to have it let alone other devices. seeing as 6.5 will be hanging around, I doubt there will be any upgrades.
Not easy to say. It seems WP7s is going to have strict hardware ties. The lack of a search-button on present devices also gives a hint that it might just be available on future phones. I'm personally starting to doubt the rumours that HD2 will get an official update. Time will tell! But i'm confident we'll see it on (some) of our existing phones thanks to the great contributors here on XDA.
WVGA minimum, the multitouch probably can be worked around.
Ok....I was THIS close in buying the Touch HD2 and Touch Diamond 2..but then I heard voices in my head and bought the Xperia X1..not that I am complaining..but I want this on X1 Too....
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
1ghz CPU or snapdragon equivalent
WVGA capacative or alternative multitouch capable screen
512MB RAM/ROM
The whole spec list is on engadget, but it looks like the HD2 and only the HD2 + a couple of phones not yet released (Toshiba TG02) meet the minimum.
Bingo, 1Ghz Snapdragon or better, WVGA Capactive Screen be LED or AMOLED
I saw no notice that LED screens will be required. LCD should be fine, although it's a moot point since AMOLED's can be literally printed onto glass with an inkjet, it's going to kill mobile sized LCD on cost alone within 2 years. A win for contrast ratio, a loss for outdoor legibility.
Could probably work on current devices if you could turn off the animated tiles

my opinion on the "new windows mobile"....
i can't imagine microsoft built a complete new OS. Maybe the Core (CE 6.0) and the GUI. They abandoned some old stuff like the start menu. but the basic things are still there (status bar at the top like in winmo 6.5.x and soft buttons at the bottom)
So it's very likely (from a developers view) that things work like in winmo6.5 under the hood. you'll still have a registry to break / improve stuff, a filesystem like fat32. microsoft has never taken a step and reinvented the wheel. they always used old stuff for their systems (windows 7 still includes an old dialog from win3.11)
Since they still use the active sync protocol you'll be able to work with the registry if old registry apps don't work anymore. the bootloader (read. spl) will still be the same so people can still flash stuff and read the memory in spl mode...
yeah... theres some pretty interesting stuff comming up (changes in marketplace, zune integration, zune worldwide, gaming and future apps). but time will tell and me thinks this is some sort of hype and panic atm.
just my 2 cents

I also doubt that Microsoft started from scratch (meaning that every line of code is brand new), however if they created a new Core (CE 6.0), removed the legacy APIs and introduced a new API, it is a completely new operating system from a developer's point of view. For example: There might be a registry but that does not mean that third party applications have unlimited access to it and can change every item, because the necessary API is missing.

Dont know what you mean by low res.. X1 has WVGA.
Regardless, unless your device has snapdragon forget all hopes of an official OR hacked upgrade. It cannot be ported to your device. It is two versions of the wince kernel ahead. Complete new drivers are needed. Without the OEM releasing an update to your device or device with similar hardware it will not be ported to your device. I have heard rumors that touch hd2 will get an update but that remains to be seen.

EVO 4G on Windows Mobile

When are we gonna see a ROM flashable on the EVO 4G with Windows Mobile? People say WinMo is going out but Andriod has too many limits for me right now.
never

Why not get an HD2?
For the love of god I hope we will never see such a horrendous thing. Good god man.

What limits? I'm curious...
lets see here... I can choose an MP3 song as a ringtone and not have it get cut off.
I can find and download a lot of games and not have to pay 4 it. I can use remote desktop with not a lot of configuration and 3rd party apps. Should I go on????
You can do all that with android dude...
Something tells me no one is going to try to do this. WinMo is about as bad as Blackberry OS IMO.
As someone else said, why didn't you get an HD2? It's the almost same phone but it also has the WinMo from 1999 that you love so much.
Sounds more like you are just too comfortable with WinMo, and are afraid to step outside of your box and really learn Android. I'll take Android over WinMo anyday. Talk about limitations... not to mention lack of reliability.
As someone who owns a HD2 and a Evo, I have no idea why you would want to use WinMo, 6.5 is as glitchy as 5.0 was as CE was years ago when the MDA and pre-MDA devices were the new and upcoming thing. Whatever I was able to do on a WinMo device I can do on an Android device, you just have to google it.
Aren't we still waiting on a decent media player for Android?
I've been using TuneWiki, works fine for me.
You probably right but the HD2 is totally out since it is for T-mobile. I have Sprint. I had my GF get the EVO and it is a really nice phone but you cannot do everything you could do in WinMo.
I've gotten really good at the internet searching thing and hasnt been anything I could not find. From what I can see I love the phone the EVO.
What people forget is that phones are just small PCs. And Microsoft never changes. Explanation: Microsoft has long come out with OSs that were resource hogs=too much for the systems of the times. It is this reason I see why there is always more issues (in a lot of cases as well as user error) on the Windows platform. It is no different in Windows Mobile. I find my phone behaves like every PC I have worked on and the fixes have been the same. i.e. virus removal maybe, free up used resources, add more space, remove certain 3rd party apps (this is to a large extent a problem for WinMo. If software code was written bad it can cause issues in the OS.) , or total refresh.
WinMo is only bad cause we like to put alot of stuff on our phones. Also no 1 created like 1 good solution for certain problems. 4 instances media playback. You had to find several solutions in order to be able to play all the Video formats....by the way this has not changed with Android. Also as of now if you like having movies on phone will need even more space if you using Android due the being limited to playing mp4/h264 vids. Mp4 is still good but Xvid still has better compression/quallity ratio.
Since using my GF's EVO and having to install numerous apps to do stuff she got used to in WinMo I notice a performance difference so really the game has not changed. Android is what...Linux right.
I know linux too and it does have lower overhead to run but linux still after being around for awhile still has work to do. Ever has to deal with Kernel changes? Can be a real pain in anus when you get your Linux nice with cube running and everything and that new better kernel comes out and 80% if not 100% of the time you have to start over.
Linux is more ideal for smaller devices because of its smaller footprint but as devices are now getting better.......I've seen linux being used in vending machines (ever unplug 1 and plug back in and see it boot up on the screen?)
Having had both WinMo and Android, I cannot tell you how many times I had to reboot my WinMo devices (not from having too many apps either), versus my Android devices due to system freezes. Simply put, I can count on one hand how many times I've had to reboot my Android devices involuntarily, and still have a couple of fingers to spare.

I wonder if the sampling rate is appropriate here: android devices have much more power and RAM than the older WinMo devices. My Uni is awesome, but slow. My Supersonic (EVO) is awesome and fast, but is it the OS, or 5 years of hardware advancements and the gobs of RAM?

idk, I'm just regurgitating something I read on another post here on XDA, that androind was still waiting for a TCMP type media player that handles it all.
As a new user to the Android OS, the ONLY thing I feel the platform is lacking is a good music player that has at least a 10 band equalizer like what's on TCPMP on my other phones. Until Android gets that, I'll continue to use my Palm Treo 700p as my MP3 player.

[q] is there anyway to use two os in defy?

HI EVERYONE
IS THERE ANY WAY TO USE TWO OS IN DEFY?
I MEAN WM7 AND ANDROID OS !
THE POINT IS IF YOU CAN LAUNCH EACH OS AT WHAT THEY GOT YOU CAN UNLIMITEDLY USE DIFFERENT TYPE OF GAMES AND THEMES AND MULTI USE ONCE .
EVEN DEFY HAS ALL THE GREAT POWER TO USE THEM AT ONCE.
Since the Bootloader is still locked, I don't really think it works. After all, the only device I know can run both Android and WM7 is HTC HD2 which seem like supported by HTC.
HI SWAT AXEL
NO, THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE. WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICES CAN RUN ANDROID, BUT NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. A WINDOWS MOBILE OS CAN'T BE USED ON AN ANDROID PHONE BECAUSE OF IT'S HARDWARE, IT JUST WORKS ON WINDOWS DEVICES.
that would be nice
thanks for reply , but if you have checked (cydia)in iphone it has (fake os) feature that allows to use android , and i still believe there is a way.
i hope we can reach that point.
Yes, I would also love it to work, but in an other forum I read that that's not possible (sorry, I don't have the link right now) because of the hardware.
But who knows, maybe a dev can do that with a trick or so.
(I clicked accidentaly the "thanks" button, I hope it does't annoy you )

Install Windows 8 on Intel-based smartphones

Anybody know if it'd be possible to install Windows 8 on an Intel-based smartphone such as Droid Razr i? The device should theoretically be compatible with Windows 8 as it's just using a pretty standard Intel Atom x86 CPU. The 32-bit version of Windows 8 should work. Anybody tried this before or know how I could approach this?
This should be revisited. The Asus Zenfone 2 came out and specs-wise, it is more powerful than many tablets out there.

Agreed! However, back when I asked this question, some people said it was not possible due to lack of driver support and possibly some issue with the bootloader. But when has that ever stopped XDA? This would be a really cool project and would really be awesome if you could install Windows 10 and use the Continuum feature. Unlike Windows 10 Mobile, this version of continuum would still allow x86 desktop apps to be run on the phone.
"This would be a really cool project and would really be awesome if you could install Windows 10 and use the Continuum feature. Unlike Windows 10 Mobile, this version of continuum would still allow x86 desktop apps to be run on the phone."
I completely agree with you. Chances are MS won't let Asus make this happen but Windows 10 Pro in your pocket and it can send/receive calls+text messages? What's next?...Snapchat?? - one can dream.

It doesn't matter if Microsoft allows it or not. I'm sure people will be able to get an unlocked bootloader for this phone or make one if Asus doesn't provide it. From there, I'd imagine it'd be something along thing lines of pre-installing Windows 10 onto a microSD card and then boot from it on the phone. The hard part would be making it boot and finding the necessary drivers. I wish I'd know more about where to start but my development skills are more centered around app development, not necessarily OS and hardware.

Please don't make me wants this more than I already do...
