So I have, I think, a pretty unique issue. Was hoping maybe someone else has had it, or has any ideas.
First of all, my G2 is perm-rooted and currently is running the Virtuous Sense ROM. My data is slow/non-existent. I can see it change from 3G to H depending on where I am, and there is full bars, but the down arrow rarely lights up. The up arrow, however is always blinking or lit up. If I am trying to load a page it just sits there blank for a minute or so, then randomly the down arrow will light up and it will load real quick. But there is no consistency, the down arrow comes and goes....
I have this same problem running CM7, VillainROMz with Sense and Now this Virtuous ROM. I am thinking since it is following me that it is not ROM specific. I have tinkered with a few different APNs, to no avail either.
Somebody please tell me I am not SOL with a bad radio chip or something.
Can you go to settings->about phone->baseband version and tell me what it says? You might need to flash an updated radio. You can find them here.
If that doesn't work, try going to your dialer, and dial *#*#4636#*#*, go to phone information, and set network type to "wcdma preffered".
If none of those do anything, you can always try the general clearing your cache in recovery and running a fix_permissions in terminal.
The last thing I could think of would be if you didn't pay your bill then your provider might have cut your service, or maybe experiencing an outage in your area.

Baseband version is 12.28b.60.140eP_26.03.02.26_M.
I will try the other suggestions and report back, I really appreciate the help.
the wcdma setting is already as suggested, and wipe of everything was done when I first noticed the problem. As far as the new radio, I will need to do a little more studying. Is there and easier way then what is in that guide you sent me the link too? I have never used adb. Wish it was easy like flashing a kernel through cwm.

This is embarassing.... I had an HD7 for two whole days to try out WP7. Some sucker wanted an HD7 and happened to have a G2 so I traded him.
Tmo still thought I had the HD7. As soon as I updated my phone on their website and rebooted the problem went completely away.

I just flashed my phone to OMJ's custom Verizon, now I have lost all service. Any advise on what settings I am missing?
Or is this a call into Verizon to do something? If so what do I say?
Thanks,
Scott
well hopefully when you updated the radio with a different rom you didn't let the customizations run.
if you did everything correctly you may just need to activate a different phone on your plan, get all your services working on that phone, then reactivate your xv6900, do the *228, remove battery thing and hopefully that'll work for you
No did not let the customizations run. It all went smooth. I did find this message....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416908&highlight=verizon
So I am calling Verizon....
Is there a way to not have to call Verizon? Will this happen with EVERY flashed ROM? Or is it only when you unlock with IMcoke's utility?
What a PITA!
Scott
Well, I hope this thread can help others...
I did have to call Verizon to reset. Now the gal who answered did sound cute, but it took 20 minutes of her reading her scripts until she escalated me to 2nd level support.
10 minutes there and they did the A-Key update....
So all is working..
But more importantly, what causes this? Will it happen with every ROM or just the first you flash?
Regards,
ST
I know I have to call in every time I Master Reset my stock XV6900 so I imagine it's the same issue with a new flash as well. Something about this phone makes them manually update it on their end I guess.
You should only need to do this if you update the Radio. But, I've flashed two radios to date, and only on the first did I need to call VZW. I've flashed quite a few ROMs and had to call maybe twice.

I helped a buddy upgrade his Verizon XV6900 radio to the sprint radio. We ran into all kinds of problems with his phone. No internet, phone searched for thirty minutes and when it got a signal would sometimes randomly shut off. We fixed everything by logging onto the Verizon website and activating one of his old phones. We took the battery out of the touch before hand because two signals equal no good. We activated his old phone for about ten minutes and then reactivated his touch. Everything worked fine afterward. He had a new akey and I believe his dmu keys were reset. Hope this helps, but activating an old phone on the verizon website is a bit of a pain.
Thanks for the info everyone...
Hope this helps someone else out.

um.... what if I did let the customization run? after I used the Sprint Radio Upgrade. Does the phone now think it's a Sprint phone? It won't even let me do the *228 anymore. Someone mentioned having success using a radiorefurbish.exe? does that make sense?
Thanks!
I'm no pro, but re-flash, and make sure to soft reset before the customizations. Not a big deal.

I have the same problem with internet. I too accidentally let the first flash run customization. I then re flashed the phone with a bunch of different roms and still cant get internet working, nor *228. I can still make phone calls just no internet. Can someone recommend with a link a good rom for verizons xv6900 that would solve this problem?

You left some important details like,
The ROM & what exactly the error is.
Well the first rom was the oem sprint rom. I did this mostly for the gps function. The error is when i try to use data it says its dialing #777 then after about a min or 2 its says it could not connect. Ive tried entering my username and pass as someone suggested, but i actually never had one there before so I didn't see how that was going to help. Needless to say it didnt. I also have a problem when i try to use *228 to update my phone. It says it failed. Im mostly concerned with internet atm. By the way i really appreciate your fast reply!
I also ran the verizon carrier cab as was recommended in some posts but no dice there either.

First, if you haven't done it yet, enter the username and password. After you flash a new ROM, the fields are blank, but the internet will work, but at some point, it will start to fail becuase of it being blank.
If that doesn't solve it, I suggest flashing a new Radio and ROM, I personally suggest using one from OMJ. I'm currently using his 3.09 Clean ROM, and it runs smooth. And after using the aGPS hack, something you can do after you resolve this, I get a faster GPS lock inside my home or office, than someone with an in-car model.
which radio do you suggest Ive tried 3.42.30 and 3.42.50 both give me same problame. Im flashing omj's 3.03.01 clean as I type this.
I'm using 3.42.50 right now, and so far it works great.
ok so then I have both radio and rom installed and still no data. any further suggestion? Is there anyway of restoring verizon data setting to original defaults? I think the sprint rom must have changed something specific to the data settings. Ive tried everything to revert them back with no luck
What's the link to the ROM that you originally flashed and run the cusomizations.

Well, I just browsed through the thread at PPCGeeks, I saw you just asked there too, but this is the best thing I've found:

Okay, here is the status. I have a DINC and I've rooted it, upgraded the hboot to s-off, and upgraded the radios and all that good stuff. I've also ported the phone to cricket with successful results with full 3g, market, wifi, sms, mms, text, etc. So everything was working fine.
Then someone wanted a phone switched like mine so i did it for them no problem. It was working for a day, then it stopped. So I got it, and tried everything in the world to fix it, but 3g wouldn't work, even after reset to stock using ruu, pb31img thing and all that s-on, and everything. Even was verizon prl, radio etc.
But the 3g would not turn on, you go to mobile settings and it would just be greyed out, say "Turning on.." and flash white real real fast and go back to turning on and greyed out. And this is where it sits, no 3g icon nothing.
I've tried the airplane mode and that did not work. Turning off 3g, flashed different radios, different kernels, etc. No avail. Different roms, everything. Even at stock it says this. I've checked the settings PST wise, and even programmed it using ##pst from the phone itself and it commits successfully.
but no 3g turning on. So we sent the phone back because we thought it was a hardware failure.
So my phone was working great, latest radio, latest build of redemptive revolution, latest prl, everything working great on cricket.
I decided hey, i'll just sell you mine, and just get a cheap phone and save some money for a while. So i sold it to her, ported it over to the new number, switched it via cricket told them it was a razr v3c and all that. Next thing you know, same EXACT problem. No 3G will turn on, even after full reflash/flex or whatever to stock. Nothing i can do will turn on the 3g, it just hangs.
What in the world is going on, please someone help me, I feel so sick about this process. I am pretty adept with all of the drivers, adb installs, rooting and apns and all that. I also used the cricket v10 mms.zip flash file and its been working great up until this point.
We got cricket to check the settings on the account and they even did a reset to make sure its not that.
Is there any way I can look at a log file of the 3g radio? to see if its giving errors? Or is there something I can do to diagnose or view what is really going on? Any help no matter how involved or simple would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I am really sick over this matter and feel so lost
But I love you guys, and you are geniuses and I know someone can help me. Thank you.
ALSO, i've noticed this happens a lot even with new dincs from verizon, so it might just be a hardware failure. I just don't know what to do to check it.
Question ... didn't you make a back up of the stock ROM...?
-Pocketing HTC Incredible-
Some kind of delayed radio issue?
I was using MIUI and it had 4G all the time... then I switched to Virtuous and it had so many problems with reception automatically.
I also tried installing the kernel to fix it, but it didn't work.
so i gave up and I went to CM7 and I am still not getting 4G signal anymore
and I get internet but its ridiculously slow now
PLZ HELP!
could be several things... if it's a rom/radio issue, you're s.o.l. until you can narrow down what's causing it there. did you perform a full wipe between Virtuous and CM7? did you use cwm recovery to perform the wipe? any other weirdness going on besides the apparent lack of HSPA+? I always, even going from one CM-based rom to another, perform a clean wipe either thru adb or, now, thanks to our buddy amazinglarry, using superwipeg2. you might give that a shot (you don't need to wipe efs data unless you're having gps issues, by the way) and install CM7 clean again.
I will say this: when I initially started using the CM7 nightlies, I ran into a weird issue where my "H" icon wouldn't show up, only 3G/E, but I was definitely on HSPA+ as evidenced from speed tests (there's no way I'd be getting 9000+kbps down on 3G). so, very first step: download Speed Test on the app market and, if you're in an area where HSPA+ is strong, see if you can tell whether or not the icon is not displaying for you like what happened in my case. how fast your internet seems to be going isn't really indicative of whether or not you're on HSPA+ or not, you can encounter horrendous lag browsing even in an area where it should be lightning quick. what ended up fixing the missing H icon for me, oddly, was a radio flash. the PC10IMG method of flashing radios is far from intimidating, so even if you're uncomfortable with that kind of stuff, give it a shot. I've had the best luck with the TMO-US post-OTA radio (26.03.02.26) in terms of a good balance between speed and battery life, but ymmv.
if none of that solves your problem, check your APN settings. here is a pretty thorough walkthrough on that.
aaaand if all else fails, call TMO and ask them to give you a hand. of course, don't tell them anything about custom roms or rooting, just tell them you're having a problem where your phone seems to not be receiving HSPA+ signal. it very well could be a goof-up on their end. when I first got my G1 back in the day, I had all sorts of trouble getting 3G and I eventually had to replace my sim card which fixed the problem automatically.
best'a luck.
thank you, it was the Radio. Something must have happened with it somehow you were VERY VERY helpful!
One thing you do have to know as well for Virtuous ROMs is that the so called 4G or H is actually represented as 3G+. So if you look at your signal and see a + behind it, it is using fauxG
EDIT: nm, just ignore what I just said. I completely passed over the fact that you switched to cm7.
I have a G2 rooted running CM7 RC1, but since I rooted back in January I have switched from an 8gb to a 16gb to a 32gb microSD card, and lately it has been acting up (drops calls, loses wifi, etc) so I wanted to start over with a clean slate with the latest CM ROM, kinda like reformatting a PC and starting fresh with a new OS. what would be the best way to do this? thanks in advance
Download the latest nightly of CM7: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=vision and put on the root of your SDcard.
1) Enter recovery
2) Wipe data/factory reset (or use a superwipe+ .zip if you want a more "thorough" wipe).
3) Install zip from SDcard > Choose zip > CM7nightly.zip
4) Reboot System
5) Enter your gmail account, etc. get to the homescreen.
6) Fix permissions in ROM manager, reboot again.
And there's your clean slate. If you want to afterwards, you could always format your SDcard too.

I would highly recommend the SuperwipeG2+ if you want a clean slate, so to speak. I had success using it to fix a GPS issue. Of course, everything Martonikaj said was exactly right - but I would definitely suggest the Superwipe tool. You simply flash from recovery rather than using the CWM factory reset option. You can find the file here:

thanks for your replies. ive followed your steps to a T, flashed superwipe, latest cm7, google apps, reboot, fix permissions, sync my google account... but now i have more issues. i cant get tmobile wifi calling to connect, which is a major issue for me because i dont have cell reception in my house. the wifi calling app was a major reason i got the g2 in the first place. i figured it wasnt a clean install so i reflashed cm7 but get the same problem. also, my battery lasted 7 hours before dying with little use. before it died i checked and saw that cell standby had taken almost 80% of my battery use while it was just sitting untouched.
i searched these forums and there isnt much in terms of help for fixing the wifi calling app, so can anyone please help me out? i really like CM for its speed but these are issues that will force me to try a sense ROM. thanks in advance
Perhaps your build.prop needs to be configured to model: T-Mobile G2 instead of HTC Vision. I don't recall the way it's set in plain CM7. I know I had to alter it to get the T-Mobile My Account working properly.... unfortunately I don't use the Wifi Calling app so I can't be of much help in this department. I actually removed it all together.

So, two things. First this battery drain... I would give it some time. Battery drain is always worse right after a flash. You might consider using the calibration app by marosige. It's free on the Market. Or you could wipe battery stats from recovery, but the application is super handy. Battery should improve with time. Mine has been excellent with all CM ROMS - after a calibration and a little time.
And while I could be totally wrong about the build.prop and the Wifi Calling app, you should check it. Using your file manager (Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, to name a few), navigate to /system folder and then find the build.prop, open it as a text document and check the lines:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=vision
If this is what you see (above), try changing it to this:
ro.product.model=T-Mobile G2
ro.product.brand=tmobile
I've had to do this a few times in order to get T-mobile apps like My Device to work. I'd hate to see you abandon CM because of the Wifi Calling app...
T-mobile WiFi calling works fine for me on both CM7 and MIUI with a build.prop indicating HTC Vision and not T-mobile G2.
What exact error are you getting when trying to run it? Or whats happening?
As far as battery life, it will improve over time as the previous poster stated, but 7hours 100% to 0% seems a bit off unless there's a ton of heavy use.
I think I have an entirely different problem altogether. The reason my battery life was so bad was because it was searching for a network the entire time, and I can't connect to Wifi calling because T-Mobile doesn't recognize my phone. When selecting T-Mobile under network operators I get "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" and when I try Wifi calling I get "You are currently not registered with the T-Mobile network. Would you like to register to enable Wifi calling?" and after selecting register I get "W005.4 T-Mobile Network Error"
I'm in over my head. I've tried rewipe data/cache, superwipe, reflash and battery/sim pull, so I guess my next course of action is to head to T-mobile and maybe ask for a new sim card?

Looking back at your first post, this seems to be an extension of the same issue which inspired you to wipe and flash another ROM. I don't know if it's a radio thing, or a SIM card thing... which radio are you using, btw? Have you flashed any radios? If not, yes, I would definitely go and get a new SIM card. It could have just been going bad and now it's dead. You're not in over your head... yet. Try the new SIM card and see what happens.
yup it was the sim card... got a new one from the T-mo store and activated it and my phone is back online! had the same one since 2001 so it wasnt surprising. have never flashed a new radio so i knew that couldnt be it. thanks for your help, i think i got it from here

Glad you got it figured out. I definitely wouldn't trust a SIM to hold its integrity and work properly 10 years after you got it lol.
Look i normally dont ask for to much help ive been around a bit know more then the average bear. I also fix hardware.
My problem is my data radio will not switch on from any attempt:
Attempted solutions:
Dialed
*#*#4636#*#*
Will not switch on from that screen
Did the obvious and switched on and off airplane mode
Replaced the entire build.prop file with a very stock build.prop after flashing stock jelly bean
Repeated steps for all stock firmware
Newest attempt wiped the entire system partition through recovery forcefully bricking the phone. I have now flashed the original stock e980 stock 10p tot file still no luck
My phone is completely unlocked fully rooted.
I've replaced the data permission files.
And I know its not the SIM card because the SIM card is in the phone I'm using right now which is an LG g2 unlocked which is for sale by the way.
And if it is a hardware problem I have not found any related video or thread to help me find an exchange where the radio is on this thing
Help me please if anybody has any idea?
Cool no help, hey moderator can u move this to thread that may get more help that would be awesome
i came looking around here because my g pros radio stopped working sometime last night while i was asleep and was about to make a thread asking for help, but seeing as how you haven't got much i doubt i would either. but ill give you a little info on mine, will it help you out at all? not sure. but i know it might make me feel a little better.
I flashed Vanir 4.4.4 last week coming from Beanstalk 4.4.4 cause beanstalk was getting buggy from all the ugly mods i subjected it to. so all was well with Vanir till i woke up this morning and had no service, no calls, no network, AND even if i connected to a wifi network it seemed that i couldn't get any data from it. I tried flashing madmacks modem cause who knows, maybe thatll help, but it diddnt. So then i flashed a different kernel and changed TCP protocols cause who ****ing knows, but it did nothing. THEN i restored my older Beanstalk 4.4.4 backup sure that it would work flawlessly but guess what, same problem. Now that im back on Beanstalk i went to the "Network Operators" option under "Mobile network settings" and selected ATT, which is my service provider, i can now make calls and texts but still no data, when i did this on Vanir it did not help. So i started messing with my "preferred network type" and realized i have data on 2G, but not 3G or LTE. Im gonna take a wild guess and say that maybe if you flash your phone back to 100% stock your radio should start working again, as much as i dont want to, i might end up doing that as well.
tl:dr
similar problem, i dont really know ****, easiest option = go back to stock, hope it works.
@Fant0m3 @alb-o
Have you guys checked if your rom shows your imei?
I have had this problem twice. My IMEI disappeared and I don't know how.
Your symptoms match.
If that's the case you could take it to a repair shop and they'll fix it in a minute or two. Or, you can check around xda.
thats a good point, when i was looking around XDA earlier i saw a few mentions of it but diddnt see anything very specific and was late for class so diddnt have time to look for too long. strangely enough mine actually started working normally again after i kept switching from 2G to 3G to LTE, which is great. but if i would've known that info earlier i could have checked if my IMEI disappeared while my radio still wasn't working, i assume it probably did.
after searching around more i found this thread that talks about it and how to prevent it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857054
thanks for the help g0at1, hopefully this helps out the OP if he hasn't already fixed the problem, or anyone else that comes across this.
nope
I've flashed back stock numerous times even flashed other versions such as e988 and back again if u dint know how to do that just change your build number in your build prop file...I've tried everything I am downt to antenna cable SIM reader or cell radio.. If radio I might as well just give up cause I can't find one for sell anywhere...I'm not so pressed as I'm using the LG g2 and it's so fast stable and a bit slimmer I think I'm gonna keep it but I would like to fix it and sell it though...... My symptoms are mentioned and all tried fixes are there. Imei is read carrier is not WiFi is received but there is an X above the data bars phone is fully unlocked as well
This may help also but it does not read my imei when the SIM is not in hmm maybe I will rework the imei code and get back if that works. I will keep updated when fixed and with solution
