I finally moved from a Hero to the EVO....yay me...stop clapping, all of you, pleez...thank you! Anyway, I rooted and am looking for the stable CM6 that has everything working. can someone provide a link if its available? I only have a few minutes a day to research the forums, other wise I'd keep hunting. If no CM6 is stable with everything working, what Sense Roms are out there with a stable kernel that improves battery life. Im on the road a lot and battery life is important to me, since I am in the air at least 9 hours out of the day and when I land Id like to have some battery left. I have noticed already that this thing drains terribly even in idle state. I started the day @ 6:30 on a 100%. I didnt call anyone and had maybe 8 e-mails come thru and sent a few texts. checked FB for two minutes and then left it alone. it is now 11AM and im @ 28% battery life...no task killers running. only auto killer. i have a ppl widget and calendar widget and of course the HTC Clock and the cubed widget. i am using 3 screens only. What SENSE ROM or any ROM has a kernel that enhances the battery life with a tweak? or is there a kernel that works with the stock ROM, that provides decent battery life?
Thansk for your help.

CM6 and all other AOSP roms still do not have 4G + HDMI + Radio working.
If you don't care about those, go ahead.
As for battery life, KingxKlick CFS works well for me.
These two tips may help you though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990&highlight=battery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701567&highlight=battery
They both worked for me.
If you want absolute certainty that your battery will last forever and a day, shell out about $60 for Seidio's extended 3500 mah battery.
It's a bit pricey and adds a bit of bulk to your Evo's back (it requires an included extra battery cover), but it's more than usable.
As for the Sense ROMs, they all do pretty much similar battery tweaks, so it's more about what you like about them in terms of functionality, design, etc.
Hope that helps.
I'm not an expert in CM6, but I can tell you that if 4G is big for you, then CM6 is a no-go as 4G does not work. Also, the FM radio and HDMI-out do not function, but it has a great Bluetooth stack from what I hear. Here's a link to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596
The kernel based on the latest OTA update is the one with best battery life from what I've been reading. Also, it has the FPS unlocked already, so that is cool. If you don't care about multi-touch and overclocking the CPU, then you may one to try one of the many Sense roms out there and see how they treat you. However, in your case, you best bet is to get a set of generic batteries and a extra charger on eBay for about $10 shipped and use that for your travels. I took my daughter to Disney World this past weekend, and I took both extra batteries with me so I can watch the Red Zone channel and not miss football. I burned through the OEM battery, and almost through an entire generic one, but I watched TV for hours and used the phone to take pics, videos, check emails, calls/texts, and even a few kids games to entertain my kid during the lines. I have no complaints with my set-up.
XD so the newest CM Nightly (116 i think?) has FM radio now.
So I guess they're moving forward... but HDMI and 4G are what most people are waiting for. lol
What ROM's are you using and what do you think has the best battery life? I love my DHD but my biggest pain with it is it's battery life, I would love to get around 15 hours of moderate-heavy use out of it, but right now I only get between 8-10 hours of it, I've tried LeeDroid, Revolution and CyanogenMod. Which custom rom do you think is best for battery life?
in my humble opinion i would say CM7... thats after a fresh flash, battery calibration, and one full charge till total discharge (sometimes i like to do it two times just to make sure the bat stats get proper readings)... Maybe its just me but i usuall get around 15-18 hours depending... I would say that i am a medium to heavy user...mainly surf the web, movies, mp3s, text, light emails and of course downloading new roms and themes to flash...
Other than cm7 i find that RCMix and revolution to be pretty decent on battery life
U can always use currency widget to determin power loss and check whats soaking up your power
I'm no expert but so far this has worked for me
i've flashed a few roms over the last few weeks and i must say that they are all pretty decent in terms of battery life. i haven't really noticed one being significantly better than the next.
i can easily kill my phone within 7-8 hours with heavy usage but i can also keep my phone going for about 30 hours with light usage and about 16 hours with moderate usage, using the same rom.
if you asked me, i think it just depends on your style of usage. perhaps this isn't the answer you're looking for but i really don't think there's one rom out there that is going to give you that edge.
If you are looking for battery, use MIUI Freshly squeezed versions...CM7 was my first ROM, I loved it but battery life was terrible.. I could hardly squeeze out 12-13 hours even on low usage..MIUI is great! I easily get 15-20 hrs plus battery on moderate usage(wifi connected most of the time, abt 30 min gaming etc)..I bet if u try u'll see the difference.....
thanks for the replies, I think you're right with how you use it. Going to try MIUI now as well

+1
but i use leedroid_hd_GB_3.0.1
Leedroid's roms always have very good battery life
Also bare in mind the radio you use has a big affect. I used the stock radio from December with Android Revolution when I first flashed it and my battery drain was extremely bad, about 15% an hour. Flashed some new radios and I get at least 18 hours before I hit 30%.
Yup radio plays a very important role.I tried 6-7 different radios before I found the right one.....

If it is not important for you to lose HTC sense, MIUI is nice in spite of the fact that it looks like too much the firmware of the iphone
CM 7.0.0 HAS a bad battery drain but its fixed in the cyanogenmod 7.0.2... now the battery works for a long time.. 24 30 hrs moderate use..
and finally if you are interested for a better battery drain try SETCPU.apk (free for XDA MEMBERS) AND configure your proccessor for a conservative work or setdown de cpu (900 mhz for example)
under my experience with the custom roms leedroid (lastest froyo 2.2.1 with leedroid kernel 2.2.9 at 960 mhz max) was provided the best battery drain
Yup MIUI does look like iOS...That was one of the reason I didn't pay much attention to it at first.
You can always use a good launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro to replace the iOS feel...I personally am a fan of Go Launcher EX...its simple n fast n serves my purpose

ouu!good idea!!! i like miui´s performance but i don´t like his app drawer hahah
Newest Android Revolution HD + matching radio.img and MDJ's kernel v8 and good SetCPU settings makes for a REALLY fast DHD ( 1.6GHz ) and great battery life, a full day with medium to heavy usage from what I've experienced so far.
Used MIUI for the last day, really impressed, except for the iPhoneish feel as been said above. Going to try the setcpu too so I can underclock
I'm using the recommended radio too, which I always make sure I do, I rely on that for improved signal as well, the reception around my place is quite dodgy. Vodafone is Australia's equivalent of AT&T in America in terms of dodgy reception ha
My DHD is now running CyanogenMod7 2.3.5 Nightly and it drains about 1% every two hours idle. I think that's good.
Can anyone make a comparison table?
ARHD 5.2.3............almost 36 hours with regular use here.............24 hours atleast..................

Same here, although needs quicker recharging when using WiFi intensely (after about 12 hours in my case.)
as i think android rev. 5.2.x ,, the greatest bettary life for me
and also i think in general sense 3 roms are very bad in bettary life

After using nothing but launcher pro since my evo 4g it only took me 30 mins to make the switch to go launcher. This launcher has everthing that pro only dream of. I'm fully impressed by the ease of use and options it has glad i finally checked it out.

Go launcher is pretty amazing. But i switched back to LPP cuz i saw a significant drop in battery life. With cuklin newest rom and LPP i get close to 17 hrs with 2.5 hrs on screen time and 30 min phone usage. With GO i would get about 12hrs of battery with the same stats
Have u noticed any signs of reduced battery life or battery drain?

I loved the options, not to mention the transitions...transitions everywhere...transitions for everything....tons of transitions....
Though the 4D scrolling drawer wasn't nearly as smooth as LP (nothing seems to be except ADWex if you disable the titles) I decided to cope...then I noticed lots of tiny micro-lags all over the place...especially when waking up....sometimes in the middle of transitions... I even tried locking home in mem, no dice...It was like this on my E4G and E3D and NS4G, so, I figured it must just need a little more horsepower....I don't think that way anymore, lol.
I really, really, really really wanted to love GoLauncher but it just didn't have the refinement that LP and/or ADWex do...and it seems to....but under heavy scrutiny, it does not.
...but I'm extremely picky, lol.
I like it but its not smooth enough for me

I purchased Launcher Pro and ADW EX and stick with Go Launcher. It's very smooth and full of options that are easy to use.
The other launchers have a lot of confusing options. Sometimes more options aren't better it all comes down to ease of use.
I too use go launcher but I really hate how the app drawer refreshes all your apps when you bring it up, it makes the scrolling lag. My perfect launcher would be go launcher with launcher pro's app drawer.

for go launcher?
but what you need the dock for? if you wanted to launch an app on the dock you would click it, instead of hitting the app drawer button anyway right?
This is my first time spending an.amount of time with GO launcher. I got a real nice set up. The only time I noticed lag was when I was running a live wallpaper with the transitions. I like it.
Unless they changed their facebook widget, it was really an eyesore. I haven't had a reason to switch from LauncherPro Plus, other than it not being compatible with honeycomb on my view. Would love to see some updates for LPP but I don't need anything it doesn't give me.

Im using ADW launcher and with EL29 i saw a big decrease in battery life namely Android OS using alot and Android System using even more. Its like EK30 type of drain before the fixes... Im rather sad EL29 is the "OFFICIAL" OTA

that's what the themes are for. i don't what lag you guys are talking about, its ridiculously smooth for me and it never reloads the app drawer

for those saying the app drawer reloads or they get home redraws, disable the ''lock home in memory'' option, and use the v6 supercharger script to bulletproof the launcher. have had NO problems whatsoever with this setup. but i was before on calks 2.8.1 with newest go launcher version. also, for those who love eye candy, check out the tsf shell pro launcher coming out in feb. there is a vid somewhere in this section, ill link to it if i can find it. that may be my go launcher replacement
Go launcher also has the best ICS theme. Super smooth to me!!

THere's lots of launchers out there. I used to use Launcher Pro, and currently am using Go Launcher. I love its features.
Has anyone done any testing of one vs another related to battery use? I have a good friend that said Go Launcher hit his battery pretty hard.
I plan to do some testing, and will post what I find, but am curious if anyone else has any experiences to report
My Sister almost returned her GS2 not too long ago, my "fix" was to remove all the Go crap ATT installed on her device. Wife recently inherited my old Vibrant, she too tried Go Launcher, killed her battery fairly quick, removed it from her phone.
I suggest/recommend Nova Launcher.
Apex or Nova, those would probably be the lightest on the battery for ICS.
I used go launcher on my galaxy s2 and could pull 30 to 40 hours with aokp. I think its great with battery life.

I put a Battery Monitoring app on my phone last night, and based on what i see, it doesn't look too bad to me. Checking it right now, with 5 hours 32 min since unplugged (didn't charge to full); of 69.1% of battery use being consumed by apps, Go Launcher accounted for 2.3%
Working on converting another phone for my wife, and played with both Apex and Nova today. While both are nice, they don't have the features that Go has, even if purchasing the pro version. If I wasn't already used to utilizing all the features, I probably would go with one of the others, given so many folks like them.
I guess I'll stick with Go Launcher.
Though I was the only one that notice how much battery go launcher drains
From my galaxy S111
Hey there XDA, got a question for ya.
I've had my AT&T S3 for a while now and I love the phone a lot, the only thing that is plaguing me is the battery life.
Now for a phone with dual core processors, a nice Super AMOLED screen that runs at 720, all the connections that you'd ever want, I expect it to use some battery life, but I feel like I should be doing better than I should.
When I'm browsing the internet or reddit I can watch the percentage just slowly crawl down. Within 30 min or so I've gone through 7-8% I want to say. Not 100% sure, but the numbers have been enough to make me concerned.
Currently I am running Diet ICS 08.08.12 with no major modifications other than the apps I use and Apex Launcher.
I've got my BetterBatteryStats dump and a screenshots of the battery page from System from last night. I'm attempting to use Juice Defender today (I've tried it in the past and it did alright) as well as Samgsung's battery saving mode (which seems to prevent the processor from going over 1.0 Ghz), which as of right now I'm at 36%. I feel like I can do better than that
So, thoughts? Opinions?

I don't think Diet ICS swapped kernels, so stock as far as I'm concerned.
Alright. For stock kernel (I'm not too sure about with power saving), those numbers are fairly decent. I was able to get some better numbers on faux123's TW kernel (the 1.65ghz, not 1.85), but I can't be too sure of the exact time, as I'm currently on 1.85ghz OC, and I charge my phone nightly. You could try other kernels, and just roll back with a nandroid to this one if you do not like the difference.
