Best ROM for battery life - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What ROM's are you using and what do you think has the best battery life? I love my DHD but my biggest pain with it is it's battery life, I would love to get around 15 hours of moderate-heavy use out of it, but right now I only get between 8-10 hours of it, I've tried LeeDroid, Revolution and CyanogenMod. Which custom rom do you think is best for battery life?

in my humble opinion i would say CM7... thats after a fresh flash, battery calibration, and one full charge till total discharge (sometimes i like to do it two times just to make sure the bat stats get proper readings)... Maybe its just me but i usuall get around 15-18 hours depending... I would say that i am a medium to heavy user...mainly surf the web, movies, mp3s, text, light emails and of course downloading new roms and themes to flash...
Other than cm7 i find that RCMix and revolution to be pretty decent on battery life
U can always use currency widget to determin power loss and check whats soaking up your power
I'm no expert but so far this has worked for me

i've flashed a few roms over the last few weeks and i must say that they are all pretty decent in terms of battery life. i haven't really noticed one being significantly better than the next.
i can easily kill my phone within 7-8 hours with heavy usage but i can also keep my phone going for about 30 hours with light usage and about 16 hours with moderate usage, using the same rom.
if you asked me, i think it just depends on your style of usage. perhaps this isn't the answer you're looking for but i really don't think there's one rom out there that is going to give you that edge.

If you are looking for battery, use MIUI Freshly squeezed versions...CM7 was my first ROM, I loved it but battery life was terrible.. I could hardly squeeze out 12-13 hours even on low usage..MIUI is great! I easily get 15-20 hrs plus battery on moderate usage(wifi connected most of the time, abt 30 min gaming etc)..I bet if u try u'll see the difference.....

thanks for the replies, I think you're right with how you use it. Going to try MIUI now as well

but i use leedroid_hd_GB_3.0.1

Leedroid's roms always have very good battery life

Also bare in mind the radio you use has a big affect. I used the stock radio from December with Android Revolution when I first flashed it and my battery drain was extremely bad, about 15% an hour. Flashed some new radios and I get at least 18 hours before I hit 30%.

Yup radio plays a very important role.I tried 6-7 different radios before I found the right one.....

If it is not important for you to lose HTC sense, MIUI is nice in spite of the fact that it looks like too much the firmware of the iphone
CM 7.0.0 HAS a bad battery drain but its fixed in the cyanogenmod 7.0.2... now the battery works for a long time.. 24 30 hrs moderate use..
and finally if you are interested for a better battery drain try SETCPU.apk (free for XDA MEMBERS) AND configure your proccessor for a conservative work or setdown de cpu (900 mhz for example)
under my experience with the custom roms leedroid (lastest froyo 2.2.1 with leedroid kernel 2.2.9 at 960 mhz max) was provided the best battery drain

Yup MIUI does look like iOS...That was one of the reason I didn't pay much attention to it at first.
You can always use a good launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro to replace the iOS feel...I personally am a fan of Go Launcher EX...its simple n fast n serves my purpose

ouu!good idea!!! i like miui´s performance but i don´t like his app drawer hahah

Newest Android Revolution HD + matching radio.img and MDJ's kernel v8 and good SetCPU settings makes for a REALLY fast DHD ( 1.6GHz ) and great battery life, a full day with medium to heavy usage from what I've experienced so far.

Used MIUI for the last day, really impressed, except for the iPhoneish feel as been said above. Going to try the setcpu too so I can underclock
I'm using the recommended radio too, which I always make sure I do, I rely on that for improved signal as well, the reception around my place is quite dodgy. Vodafone is Australia's equivalent of AT&T in America in terms of dodgy reception ha

My DHD is now running CyanogenMod7 2.3.5 Nightly and it drains about 1% every two hours idle. I think that's good.
Can anyone make a comparison table?

ARHD 5.2.3............almost 36 hours with regular use here.............24 hours atleast..................

Same here, although needs quicker recharging when using WiFi intensely (after about 12 hours in my case.)

as i think android rev. 5.2.x ,, the greatest bettary life for me

and also i think in general sense 3 roms are very bad in bettary life

Longest time with Display On while on battery

To all the heavy users out there: I'm interested in hearing about the battery life of your phones under heavy use. I figured that the Display On time in Settings>AboutPhone>Battery>BatteryUse seemed like a good measure - the amount of time the phone display is on before battery runs out. Also, I usually have wifi/3G on almost all the time. To make a start here's mine (mostly browsing):
ROM: 2.29.405.2 WWE
Time: 4 - 4.5 hours
I'm quite happy with the results, though I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this. Thanks.
i got about 4 and a half hours of screen time over the course of 2.5 days... tons of texting.
Great, which ROM are you using? My 4.5 hours was over the course of a day. I might consider flashing a custom ROM as soon as I can get my hands on a class 6 micro SD. The battery gives about 5 hours of on time for games, watching movies and other non data stuff, which is pretty decent I think.
Same here... 4,5 h is a good value. If I dim the screen for at-home-use (6% brightness via quicksettings) I might get 5 hours.. a lot of network/wifi usage or gaming of course decreases the lifetime...
BTW: I'm on LeeDroid 2.2f
i am using defrost on the 6.0i HAVS 1113mhz kernel BFS.
probably best rom around. really fast, and i can use 20% brightness and get 2 days worth no problem. hope this helps!

Yeah but this Thread asks for the actual running-/screen-on-times as stated in your battery statistics Anyways two days is quite good even with moderate usage...

Best ROM for battery?

What is the best ROM for battery usuage?
Every sense with leedroid kernel...
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
i use revolution hd 3.1 and its great for performance and battery
I will second that Revolution HD 3.1 makes such a difference to battery life, its much smoother than stock too. Tried CM7 and CoreDroid but they were both a little too battery hungry to be useful.
ROM, Kernel and Radio
I have used LeeDroid HD, Spike CM7 and Android Revolution HD. All with different kernels and radios.
I would think the battery drain has to do with both ROM, Kernel and Radio versions (and maybe more). So it's vital that all the components is compatible. Most ROM devs recommend both a radio and a kernel.
And of cause it depends on all the services and app installed after the flash
Anyway, to you question:
I use the new Spike CM7 build 19 and have great battery life now.
I had problems with no sleep mode on other ROM/Kernel before. (and yes I have tried various patches)
I'm using CM7 latest nightly with mad murdocks battery fix and the the most latest radio and I'm getting 3-5 mA battery drain while in standby (with constant 3g, mobile data and sync on). So I'd say all the roms are quite close to each other when it comes to battery drain nowadays and the battery drain isn't a main concern anymore while choosing between roms.
My friend and myself bought the phones on same day. He runs Revolution and I run LeeDroid. Looks like there is a small advantage with LeeDroid.
i'm using Spike CM7 build 19 flashed with mad-murdock's batfix build7 and my battery life is great
I recommend Android Revolution HD 3.2 for you!
I had 2-3 days of battery with ARHD3.1 all the time!

Yes and No
I don't know what would be much...
But with texting all day, some calls I get this, but yeah, I immediatelly turn off the display after using my phone and have deactivated all unnessesary stuff
I also removed most of the sense stuff and don't use twitter or something
the only syncing things are mail (every hour) and google (once a day)
but yeah, 1-2 days are easy with this, but mostely 2+

I'm not saying that it isn't possible as you can get a week out of the device if you just let it run on standby but as soon as you switch the screen on the consumption jumps to at least around 200mA and add a little gaming, browsing etc the consumption doubles from that (not an exact figure). So what I am saying is that it's kind of false to imply that another rom has way better battery consumption if you really don't use it that much. As it has been implied in many other threads that you just can't get over a day out of the device if you actively use it. It's just maths and there is no way around it as 1230mAhs will only get you that far
It is possible to get a few days by using it as a "regular" phone, it is all really usage dependent, and therefore the times are pretty hard to compare.
I am seeing a battery improvement using Coredroid V4 over Coredroid V3.2.
Today I have given the phone light use, about 4 short phone calls, email browsing, some facebook browsing but no gaming and I am at 73% after 12 hrs from full charge.
Combination of Buzz 1.3.8.2. 1.61GHz kernel, ARHD 3.2 with sense and the recommended radio is working great for me battery- and performance-wize. Using On demand gov at 1.22 GHz with 230-460MHz screen off profile.

I did'nt say that it all depends on the ROM I use, but with my normal mobile phone lifestyle and this ROM I get those battery lifetime. It was ment as an example, because on the other hand, if I use my DHD more frequent with playing games and stuff, I don't get around the 24h with a single battery charge, but that's (like you say) ROM independet because of the big display consumption and the 1230mA battery.
I just wanted to state the ROM I use with my normal battery experience for the thread author to test out.
It all depends on the user

Best battery performance

Hi!, i'm looking for a ROM with a good battery life, because, i like to plug on 3g all day and my actual ROM in 2 hours, spends about 20% of battery that's horrible!
Thanks so much guys!
I actually have this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039257
And 44 radio.
Have you tried LeeDroid 3.0? I'm running that, I'm a heavy user and it works a treat. Plus, HTC Sense =)
The best battery-saving-rom is Redux 1.1.2. for me! Give it a try
Thanks to both, actually the LeeDroid 3.0 haven't shows spanish language 100%, so, it's a "problem" (not too important, but i'm spanish and i like have my phone in my language ) so, i'll try Redux 1.1.2 and later LeeDroid when shows spanish
Thanks!
Htc Desire
it's good and awesome man i think i must go for one.
Tbh I get 3-5mA usage on the stock sense 2.2x rom - so battery isn't bad on the stock roms. What can change is the radio/ril which determine how efficiently the phone handles mobile/wifi signals - after screen usage and wifi this is usually the biggest drain.
That said, I find it looks nice but don't need it all and prefer Redux
+1 for Redux defiently the best battery saving rom i've tried
What do people use to monitor app mA/battery usage?
I've tried battery monitor widget, and system panel; the former show's me - by monitoring every 60s - that something is pushing the battery from 3-4mA to 50, 80, even 150mA usage at seemingly random times (phone idle overnight) - any ideas of an app to shop which these spikes are?
Syspanel is ok, but doesn't show you what causes what usage when.
Battery life is also determine by what's running in the background. I'm running CM7 and I use wifi practically all day. If I don't use that then I use mobile network. My battery life can span up to 2 days or a little more if I'm careful.
Battery saving roms are ok but unless they're been heavily optimized for it, I don't see the real point.
Sent from CM7
Best ROM I've used is Amethyst. Could easily get 2+ days of usage out of it, but the dev went to a Nexus S, so stopped development on Amethyst, unfortunately.

[Q] Most stable custom ROM avail

Hi all,
I know most of you guys use CM7 RC0 But I just want to know which is the most stable custom ROM which has all the features avail and no FCs or ANRs?
I almost tried all the ROMs including Stock Eclair, Froyo, CM7, MIUI, China Unicom etc. Currently using China Unicom 2.10,
My main concern is about battery coz no matter which ROM i use I get only a day of battery life :
So I'm looking for a Froyo/Gingerbread ROM which gives MAX battery life, supports HD video recording, fast and stable. Of course Ill stick on to CM7 once the official version gets released.
I am also looking for a rom with good batt usages n smoothness will wait untill any1 rreplies

for good battery life, please keep the 2G on, and switch to 3G only when needed. this is probably the best thing you can do for your battery life. also, make sure the baseband is correct for your usage. however, only you will be able to do this yourself. try a few until you hit a good one.
cheers!

Well.. Of course I always follow the tips to conserve the battery like setting to 2G, very few animations, setvsel to undervolt, not many widgets. But still I get around 1 to 1.5 days of backup.
I have been using CM7 beta 6 for a few weeks already and it has been pretty stable. Lasts around 3.5 days with moderate use. Heavy use( a lot of phone calls), around 1.5 - 2 days.
Just make sure that you select the correct baseband.

Yes, I install the correct baseband everytime I change the ROM, I'm suspecting my sim might be the culprit which is not letting the phone to go to DSM. Ill change it and see..
How stable and cool is Pays rom???
If you can get through a full day with the "micro laptop" we now refer to as a phone, you're in good shape! Plug it in every night and be happy.
If your particular usage patterns don't get you through a full day, or if you can't plug in every night, there are plenty of extended battery options available.
You guys need to understand that the manufacturers are forced to decide between battery life and size/packaging. Today's phones are designed to be practical for the average consumer who is able to plug in/recharge their phone every day. And fortunately, the aftermarket offers us the option of getting longer battery life in exchange for a larger package (ie 3500+ mAh batteries with covers)...

Well, You are right.. But I'm very Jealous that many people get 3 to 4 days of battery backup on an avg usage, I have seen posts where they mentioned 6 days of battery backup using the china unicom's rom, So I flashed the ROM hoping Ill atleast get 2 - 3 days of backup.. but even that didnt help..

Battery Life in ROMs

Hello all,
I was looking for input as to which ROMs others have found gave them the best battery life, whether it be from a custom kernel, or battery saving features packed into the ROM itself. I am definitely open to opinions too, doesn't really need to be statistically backed.
Just and F.Y.I, I currently use the last Miui.us official supported ROM for the G2 (Just before v4).. For a long time I've had held to the belief that it offered the best degree of battery life for features provided; a trade off, as one might say. I've tried the older Cyanogenmod (back in 8-9ish lol, actually had worse battery life experience than MIUI) and virtuous (urgh, not too much luck, looked nice, buttery smooth...when it finally loaded..G2 doesn't seem to have enough RAM to have any kind of app running without reloading that pesky Rosie launcher) and a few other less-than-well-known ROMs.
I would also like to add that I have steered clear of ICS ROMs, mainly for the fact I can't seem to find a clear superior version that's stable, that also goes for recent sense ROMs, i.e Sense 4.
Any and all advice/opinions are appreciated
Regards,
MIUI
So far I've had best battery life with MIUI, without any tweaks. I think its beacaue most of other custom roms, specialy ICS and sense 3+ roms are overclocked for better performance. Overclocking=Less Battery Life.
From my experience CM7/9 also have a good battery life. If you want more you can reduce max-cpu-speed and min_cpu_speed for lower values. 245Mhz and 800Mhz. this should do the trick. and use some app like Juice Defender. it helps a bit.
I run one of the older AOKP builds and while off for a few days and very light use, had ~20% at 44 hours. During normal days I run quite heavy with BT and wifi hotspot, I can drain it very very quickly.
Elitemod cm7 was the best for me. 10-12 hrs easy heavy use and is real smooth.

Yeah i used elite mod at some point also.. I think I may go back to it now.
I'm getting about 80 hours of light usage (~20 sms and 2 calls, maybe little data, per day) on latest official Miui GB (2.3.23). But with heavy usage (games, wifi, music) i can get it down to 12 hours.
