Can anyone tell me which ROM (STABLE) provides the best battery life on HTC EVO???
Thanks!
I have been through just about all on this site and Fresh's newest seems to work best for me. With moderate daily usage I can go without charging for about 22-24 hours. Of course all I need to go is 12-14 b/c I charge every night anyway, but I did leave off charger one day just to see how far I could go. I'm giving Calk's latest a try right now to see how it goes. Just be sure to give whatever ROM you try a couple charges before making a final decision, as it usually takes this amount to get an accurate read on true battery life.

I know that the latest kernels off the latest build have been killing my battery, it's horrible for my EVO.
But you really have to try different rom/kernel/PRI/radio combinations to find the best battery life for your Evo. I wish there was a preset rating system for each rom though, just to see how things work for everyone else(i.e. battery life, quadrant scores, force close problems, etc.)...but there really are a lot of variables, so I don't think that may ever happen.
Yeah I agree there isn't a clear cut winner. Everyone uses their phone different so it will differ for everyone.
Totally agree to give it a few full charges... I suggest when you get a new rom and/or kernel installed to reset the battery stats (can be done in recovery) then use it till it dies then charge to full before turning it back on.
Personally, I've been using Fresh 3.3 w/ the Kings #6 kernel and not only has the phone been screamin' fast the battery has been good. I'm only on my 2nd charge up though so I still have one or two to go before everything smooths out.

As posted here, the tests showed that CM w/ Snap 7.5 probably has the best battery life - and it seems by a lot.

I'm using the latest Fresh and I just plugged my phone in at 15% battery after 37 hours. I'm pretty happy with that.
Fresh Rom always gave me good battery.. I'm just using the rooted stock OTA and am getting great battery life.

Until someone takes the time to make a section that covers the different problems. Battery problems, Battery Problems w/ ROMS, Apps not loading, etc. etc.
Wishful thinking. I do like the search in the search to help cut down this crap

I think it would be a great idea for this kind of stuff to happen. Some aggregated source where everyone can submit their information using various roms, kernels, etc. Whether it be information regarding Quadrant scores, linpacks or battery life. On computer hardware forums they generally have a section dedicated to OCing records with charts listing someones entire setup while attaining the clock speeds. I don't see why a similar implementation can not be done here.

i use Fresh's Rom made my battery life live avg abt 15 hours
Over 40 kernels were tested and benchmarked in 7 different ways, and the results are posted here.
Should tell you everything you want to know, without bringing roms into the picture (since battery life is most affected by the kernel used, not the rom)
edit - looks like I'm a bit late withthat link - I see the thread for that site was already posted above. It's a great resource.
Fresh 3.2, hands down best battery life for me. 3.3 was pretty bad, as was myn's release....which sucks, because myn's rom is otherwise awesome.
I am using Fresh 3.3.0.1 with a baked kernel that is able to over clock. I then have SetCPU installed with profiles for different states of the phone. If my screen is off I have the cpu set to a max of 500MHz to save battery if there are any processes running in the background. I then have my cpu set to 1119MHz when the phone is plugged in or at 100% with the screen on just because I like a snappy phone. Then when the battery drops below 50% I have it return to stock speeds.
I use my phone heavily for things like subsonic, QIK, FB, Calendar, wireless tether, and of course since unlimited data, calling to any cell, and texting I am on it a lot keeping in touch with friends. I also use the sprint nav at least twice a week.
Results will vary from user to user but so far the phone has been on 7 hours and after some moderate use it's only down to around 75% on the battery.
Again this is how I MYSELF use my phone with this rom and kernel this may not be how you use your phone and you may see different results.
What I have done is searched roms and installed them in total I have used 4 different roms. Baked, Cyanogen, Fresh, and Virus. After installing each rom and setting up my phone I made a nand backup of each so I can flash between them as needed to test. I have found out of all of these roms Fresh 3.3.0.1 with a kernel from the baked roms has worked the best for MY daily use.
My friend has a Desire and he isnt pleased with the battery life at all.
I told him to root and install a custom ROM and it will help, as it did with me (Motorola Milestone).
Do the custom ROMS for the desire have better battery life? How many hours can you get out of it?
He hardly gets a day and doesnt even use much data, mostly texts, maybe short calls, and just brief stints of data
i use oxygen 2.0.2 and had the same usage as your friend, more or less.
my battery stands for almost 20 hours.
do check the auto-sync options and 2G-3G network setting.
turn-off the GPS, WiFi bluetooth if it isnt used.
and maybe your friend could install Juice Defender from market to conserve battery.
hope that helps
I second the vote for Oxygen. I heavily use data for Twitter, Facebook, four email accounts and several short browsing sessions daily. I also make a handful of calls (often with Bluetooth) and SMS a lot. I jump on and off MSN with imo.im beta (my current multi-protocol IM client at the moment) and get almost 20 hours a day. I've always had battery life problems in the past.
Your friend won't regret it.

Another vote for oxygen. Phone out of the box for me I only get about 24 hours. On oxygen 2.0 with moderate use - wifi always on, browsing forums and email, calls, no widgets except for weather and date, I got 2 days 9 hours! That's also with setcpu and rokee mod (check oxygen forum). Very happy so far and don't think I will be upgrading anytime soon unless I can get better battery life.

I am using the RCMIXHD and for now I haven't seen a huge improvement ... but I keep everything on and still have to tweak around .
AuraxTSense v8.4
Standby Time 8day's.
With checking time/date and mail from time to time.
Google latititude enabled and face book enabled.
Allmost no wifi involved btw.
So with oxygen, since he doesnt leave wifi or data on all the time, and only sparingly uses it, I assume he would get a lot more than 20 hours of use?
wow the auraxtsense sounds good

I would agree with the people suggesting oxygen, although i haven't tried the most recent one I have tried other AOSP ROMs (Such as Cyanogenmod and Redux) but you do however sacrifice the incredible camera for a terrible AOSP one, so I personally like to use Sense ROMs for that reason. There are some Kernels that can improve the cpu usage-thus improving battery life when using HTC sense based roms. I would either recommend either LeeDroid or AuraxTsense (the one i currently use) and with heavy use i can easily get a working day from it (from 9am to 5pm) and it'll only JUST reach the 20% mark for me which is fine
Using the Redux 1.1.0 rom with newest radio (32.54) and coutts99 2.6.38 CFS HAVS kernel. Battery life has never been better, 2 days since recharge, couple of games of Worms and 3d table tennis, some emails, browsing for maybe one hour, listened to a Brian Eno CD and maybe 15 minutes of talking on the phone. 56% left!
I was positively shocked. I reckon the largest cause for this was the new radio and kernel, Wi-Fi reception seems to be a bit weaker TBH than with 32.49 but this battery life is definetely worth it.
I was having severe battery issues with my desire - looked at logs via currentwidget etc - found I'm use around 55ma on standby !!
Long story short and after lots of research I found I was a victim of the usb brick bug... anyway, unbricked and now my use is around 4 to 6 ma standby on CM7 RC4..
I'm running Cyanogen since the Release Candidate 1 with the latest RADIO and this kernel: http://mirror.couttstech.com/android/index.php?dir=bravo/kernel/aosp-2.6.38/CFS/ (CFS, HAVS, Ginger).
I only use 3G when idle and WiFi for downloading updates.
Sync is on
Bluetooth and GPS are off.
Underclocked to 800 MHz when active, Max 256 when idle. Min-Frequency set to 128 MHz.
Undervolted by 50-100 mV.
I'm listening about 30 minutes/day to online radio (via 3G)
Trillian is enabled in background (ICQ,MSN,AIM,GoogleTalk)
With this, my desire loses around 40-50% in 14 hours (around 3% hour). Most battery hog is the online radio (drains 15%).
If I do not listen to online radio and if I disable Trillian but keeping everything else enabled, the drain is around 1%/hour (tested over night).
For me this is the best I could get and I'm fine with it (Also: My battery only has 85% of original capacity left).
vote for Oxygen2 or CM7. Try this Kernel too. Sync only every 3h-6h (FB/Twitter/Weather/...)
In my case Oxygen 2.0.2 is draining approximately 1% of battery every 4 hours on standby with wifi on. Kinda hard to beat that I guess.
I am using InsertCoin 2.0.1 Data2Ext
My Settings:
-Syncs: FB 6hr, Push e-mail for yahoo and googlemail, News 4 hrs, weather 3 hrs, and htc sense based on change.
-2G/3G set to auto
-CPU freq: 384-1075MHz with interactive...yes I am OCing a bit.
-Night in the City live wallpaper.
-WiFi always on at home.
-(not really a setting) GSM signal strength is somehow always full at home.
-advance task killer every 1 hr.
I have tested the battery life at home and it resulted with those settings above about 25% reduction in 12-14Hrs on standby.

I know that one.
I have tried not to use any task killer but the battery usage is somehow better with task killer running.
On the other hand, if I set the task killer faster than 1 hr, the battery life is drained drastically.
Longer than 1 hr will not give me any effect on battery life.
I also know those are only based on subjective judgement.

oh i was going to post something like this.
Using Stock 2.2 Rom.
I've found i actually get better usage with WIFI always on rather than OFF and switching between 3G to WiFi and then tun it off.
so switch phone on at 7am @ 100%, switch off at 11:30pm and im around 85% usage.

I think I might have this problem as well, been doing a search, but not sure where to look, did you follow the procedures for usb brick, or are you talking about something else. I downloaded the current app and it shows 44amp all the time, any info on where to look for a cure is appreciated.

Yeah - followed procedures for USB brick and worked fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691187
Having a little trouble with usb brick procedure, I think my cache was corrupted, so I unrooted and thought I would start again. So far unrooted, replaced original battery back in taking out 3000 mah one, and funny the amps go down, when gone into idle, but they do shoot up to 130 something or more when doing things. Then I replaced it with the 3000 amp one, and it still stays at 44mah, so I think it is the battery, it won't go down in amps for some reason, well atleast I have a backup battery incase.
What ROM's are you using and what do you think has the best battery life? I love my DHD but my biggest pain with it is it's battery life, I would love to get around 15 hours of moderate-heavy use out of it, but right now I only get between 8-10 hours of it, I've tried LeeDroid, Revolution and CyanogenMod. Which custom rom do you think is best for battery life?
in my humble opinion i would say CM7... thats after a fresh flash, battery calibration, and one full charge till total discharge (sometimes i like to do it two times just to make sure the bat stats get proper readings)... Maybe its just me but i usuall get around 15-18 hours depending... I would say that i am a medium to heavy user...mainly surf the web, movies, mp3s, text, light emails and of course downloading new roms and themes to flash...
Other than cm7 i find that RCMix and revolution to be pretty decent on battery life
U can always use currency widget to determin power loss and check whats soaking up your power
I'm no expert but so far this has worked for me
i've flashed a few roms over the last few weeks and i must say that they are all pretty decent in terms of battery life. i haven't really noticed one being significantly better than the next.
i can easily kill my phone within 7-8 hours with heavy usage but i can also keep my phone going for about 30 hours with light usage and about 16 hours with moderate usage, using the same rom.
if you asked me, i think it just depends on your style of usage. perhaps this isn't the answer you're looking for but i really don't think there's one rom out there that is going to give you that edge.
If you are looking for battery, use MIUI Freshly squeezed versions...CM7 was my first ROM, I loved it but battery life was terrible.. I could hardly squeeze out 12-13 hours even on low usage..MIUI is great! I easily get 15-20 hrs plus battery on moderate usage(wifi connected most of the time, abt 30 min gaming etc)..I bet if u try u'll see the difference.....
thanks for the replies, I think you're right with how you use it. Going to try MIUI now as well

+1
but i use leedroid_hd_GB_3.0.1
Leedroid's roms always have very good battery life
Also bare in mind the radio you use has a big affect. I used the stock radio from December with Android Revolution when I first flashed it and my battery drain was extremely bad, about 15% an hour. Flashed some new radios and I get at least 18 hours before I hit 30%.
Yup radio plays a very important role.I tried 6-7 different radios before I found the right one.....

If it is not important for you to lose HTC sense, MIUI is nice in spite of the fact that it looks like too much the firmware of the iphone
CM 7.0.0 HAS a bad battery drain but its fixed in the cyanogenmod 7.0.2... now the battery works for a long time.. 24 30 hrs moderate use..
and finally if you are interested for a better battery drain try SETCPU.apk (free for XDA MEMBERS) AND configure your proccessor for a conservative work or setdown de cpu (900 mhz for example)
under my experience with the custom roms leedroid (lastest froyo 2.2.1 with leedroid kernel 2.2.9 at 960 mhz max) was provided the best battery drain
Yup MIUI does look like iOS...That was one of the reason I didn't pay much attention to it at first.
You can always use a good launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro to replace the iOS feel...I personally am a fan of Go Launcher EX...its simple n fast n serves my purpose

ouu!good idea!!! i like miui´s performance but i don´t like his app drawer hahah
Newest Android Revolution HD + matching radio.img and MDJ's kernel v8 and good SetCPU settings makes for a REALLY fast DHD ( 1.6GHz ) and great battery life, a full day with medium to heavy usage from what I've experienced so far.
Used MIUI for the last day, really impressed, except for the iPhoneish feel as been said above. Going to try the setcpu too so I can underclock
I'm using the recommended radio too, which I always make sure I do, I rely on that for improved signal as well, the reception around my place is quite dodgy. Vodafone is Australia's equivalent of AT&T in America in terms of dodgy reception ha
My DHD is now running CyanogenMod7 2.3.5 Nightly and it drains about 1% every two hours idle. I think that's good.
Can anyone make a comparison table?

Hey folks!
I have the EVO 004 Supersonic. I love flashing my Android, and do it constantly. I am having issues with Synergy RC1 that just went live. My battery is draining fast, and I mean in an hour maybe two, I have to charge it. That is just being on idle, not being used. Drains much faster if I use it. I flashed back to my original image (stock) and the battery lasts longer. So I flashed Mik, and it lasted longer and I flashed CyanogenMod and that sucker lasted longer, but I LOVE the way Syngery looks and flows. But I cannot get the battery to last longer. So I thought maybe apps were running that are not supposed to, so I use my favorite app killer and the apps keep popping up, they are driving me nuts. Why the hell are they restarting? I want them stopped and NOT to reactivate. Is this an issue with anyone else, because I really do not want to get rid of this ROM. Also, yes, I cleared the Battery stats as well. Still fast drain.
Oh, one more thing, I cannot OVERCLOCK the damn thing either. So, those are my issues, cannot get apps to stay shut off (force close even), Battery is dying super fast and cannot get it to stay charged longer than two ours. Oh, and I already checked my battery with Sprint, battery is good, and they even gave me a SECOND one, and it still drains fast. Please advise.
Thanks for listening folks, and I appreciate any help. I love this site and has helped me NUMEROUS times, but I finally had post my own specific issue as I have never dealt with this before nor found anything that can help.

question for you: why are you using an app/task killer!?!?!?! Android has one built in already [MENU >> SETTINGS >> APPLICATIONS >> RUNNING SERVICES (or MANAGE APPLICATIONS)] that could also be a reason your battery life is crappy (i really hate task killers so that last line might be biased lol but seriously...android does have it built it)

First, Synergy runs on HTCs stock kernel, they havent released the source code for the kernel yet, so there are no custom kernels for any evo 2.3 rom, so you cant overclock, or get the awesome battery life we usually get from custom kernels.
Now the battery draining is usually the radios. Right now I have wakelock on my phone running synergy, but I dont wanna mess with my radios, you would have to try different radio/pri combos until you find the right combo.

I use task killers because I can kill all tasks at once instead of individually. I would like to be able to close apps I am not using as well. But they keep popping up. I know now the overclock does not work with gingerbread, but man, I got a lot of misinformation.
I appreciate your help, I will try the battery saving tips, but if it is about letting the phone die, erasing battery logs and then charging it and then making the green light stay on when first plugged in and other stuff like that, I have tried it to no avail. I just flashed another ROM and the battery is FINE! It is so damn frustrating. I see others with great battery life. I just cannot get mine to do it.

Well, you guys probably will not believe this, but I got my battery to last a looooong time! I was messing with my battery options and decided to turn OFF the battery saving option it gives (enable power saver). I rebooted the phone charged it fully and then took it off the charger, BAM! Being FULLY charged it went down one percent after being on for 40 minutes. That is much better than I was getting on my stock and other roms. I just love this dang rom. Now, if I could only overclock the darn thing. So I have had the EVO on for 2 hours and 10mins and the battery says 97%, sweet. Anywho, battery issue is solved, loved it. Has this been mentioned before? Turning off the battery saver to save on battery? LOL. It probably has and I must have been to frustrated to absorb that info. Thanks for your help!
Battery saver...
I, too, was having draining issues on my Synergy-ROMed Evo. I could WATCH the battery drain. But I turned off the "battery saver" in power prefs and it's HOLDING STEADY! I'll report back if this doesn't turn out to be the cure I was hoping for, but it's definitely worth a try.
Now if I could just get this GPS to stop rebooting my phone...
Guys am almost flashing 1 or 2 roms daily, till date i experinced with 7 r 8 roms..but none of them satisfied me...some ROM had problem with the basic things like camera, camcoder and other things, some other ROMs lack in battery usage...
So can someone sheds some light on this part...
As long as you're on a new stable ROM such as ICS you're battery should be fine. JB is too early to know really but it's fantastic for me. So, assuming you're now on a stable ROM (a non Sense ROM would be better too) the problem is either your battery or you. I would recommend getting a new battery if you still have the 2 year old one the phone came with, and tbh I'd recommend getting a new Ankers 1600 mAh anyway as they're fantastic, lasts me days.
Now that you're on stable ROM and have a shiny new battery, if you're battery life is still bad then the latter problem I mentioned applies, that is, you, or rather how you are using the phone.
If, like many other Vision users I see around the forums, you are overclocked to absurd speeds well over 1GHz running the performance governor then have I got news for you of course your battery life is going to be terrible. For this reason, tbh you really don't need to go over stock clock speed and if you use the Virtuous OC daemon then you can under clock significantly when the screen is off, this saves enormous amounts of battery life.
Also if you are using the phone constantly and have the screen very bright, data on all the time etc., then you've got to accept that you simply won't last more than a day between charges.
By the way I'm not going to recommend a specific ROM because as you should know "what ROM should I get" threads are not allowed, I just wanted to give you some general battery help.
Hope this helps
