[Q] A2SD+ AND internal memory running out of space? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am new here, sorry for noob question.
Recently I have flashed [ROM-GingerBread] Ginger Villain 0.9 with A2SD+ feature.
Before installation I did full wipe and created new EXT partition on my 4GB SD card with ROM manager (Size: 512MB Wipe:0MB)
After few days from flashing I have installed several applications from Market. Today I have tried to install another one, but no success. It shows me internal memory running out of space. So installation has failed.
I am not able to install more apps anymore. I don't understand it! When I run Quick system info it says:
A2SD storage - total 457MB, Free 342 MB
Internal storage - Total 148MB, Free 13,69MB
Where is the problem? Why is system installing apps to internal storage and not to A2SD storage?
Could somebody help me?
Thanks.

Read up on how A2SD+ works. Either use search or start here.

I have the same problem with Leedroid 2.3d
A2SD+ but internal memory is running out of space and ext has about 300 mb left
Please help

So basically if internal memory is getting low, the cache is the culprit?

Most of the time, yes.

Apps2SD+ installed, apps still installing on internal memory?

Hi, I've recently installed MIUI-Au on my Desire. Think everything went fine, but when I install apps now it still seems to install on my internal memory instead of ext3. Under SD card settings it tells me A2SD+ has a total space of 504mb and available space of 462mb and my internal memory only has 16.39mb left. Is there anything I have to enable to make the apps install on the ext3 partition instead?
THanks
http://www.miui-au.com/faq/a2sd/
I've read that already, still doesn't solve my problem though. I assume A2SD+ is working because it shows up on the SD card info and Quick System Info when I load it.. is that assumption wrong? Whenever I install an app, almost all the data is installed on internal memory and then I get the message memory is full while A2SD+ is almost completely empty.
What does quick system info say?
It would help if you post what it states in terms of internal, external, ext...
For me that has been the most reliable in terms of accuracy.
Mine
A2SD total 0.98gb Free 772mb
Int total 151mb Free 105mb
System 250mb Free 23.23mb
A2SD+ still does not install everything on the ext partition, that is why you can have the low memory message without having filled up your ext partition.
If you need more space look in to using data2sd or changing hboot.

As he says lol...look at my internal!
Thats why I asked for stats..almost completely empty may not mean empty
apps2d moves /data/app/ and dalvik cahe to sd ext
data2sd moves /data/app/ /data/data/ and the dalvik cache to sd ext
A2SD Total 504MB Free 462MB
Internal storage Total 148MB Free 15.34Mb
System Total 250MB Free 125MB
It just seemed a bit uneven IMO.

[Q] InsertCoin - How to upgrade to the new rom

I flashed Insertcoin - 1.08 (A2SD version) yesterday and today a new version of the ROM is available (1.0.9). How do I update?
I have flashed A2SD version; so how do I know that A2SD is working?
Hi
I would do a full wipe, and then apply the 1.0.9 with the recovery.
to check if a2sd is working see this tuto

I had followed that tut earlier but it says "A2SD not found"
Don't you think that the tut is for DarkTremor script? Does Insertcoin use DT?
I don't know if insertcoin uses DT. I've searched in the insertcoin thread and found nothing about it.
Maybe you can try with quick system info from the market.
You should have a A2SD storage line which shows total and free storage.
Since It has been updated to AceS 2.50 - you need a full wipe.
And No, Insertcoin does not uses DarkTremor's script - uses MCR (as I can recall).

I tried Quick System Info and it shows 0.98GB of Total A2SD Storage. Free:605 MB
But how do I know that apps that I install are going into SD? The internal storage space is consumed whenever I install any app.
I've read in another thread (don't remember which one), that apps are using a2sd storage, but data apps are still using internal storage. Thats why it still decrease when installing new applications.
Try deleting some data apps, without uninstalling apps and check internal storage again

What are data apps? any examples?

A2SD HELP!

I have been having nothing but problems with A2SD I decided to partition my EXT3 to 2GB and at first installed leedroid and have since moved to OxygeN both obviously show only around 120mb when I start phone I understand this. It doesn't show A2SD so I install quick system info that says I have 1.99GB A2SD storage. OK move to the future and I have around 14 apps installed and have ran out of space on my phone. internal storage 16.05mb A2SD free 1.85GB the phone is not installing apps to the SD card. It was the same for leedroid and for OxygeN. I have nearly all my A2SD space available. I have no apps moved to SD using Froyo-A2SD. I'm pulling my hair out as my phone refuses to let me download a 700k app from market now..
I tried wiping cache too it upped my free space to 17mb.

No I read thats a bad idea as it can cause problems?
EDIT - Tried it and now I have 97mb free.. AWESOME so far no probs will update if I have any more. Also noticed though when I backed up before adding the mod it had some games/apps in the devlik cache i no longer have installed? Any way I can remove them? Like Skype etc..
A2SD was the reason for me to root...tryed arround diff ROMs...had the same prob like u...then i find my perfect ROM: Acemod007
super fast, stable, super support, and the best: a2sd works perfectly! i have an 2 gb ext4 partition and round 150 apps installed and 200 mb internal free (running CM7r2)!
Check this out!

yep thats why i rooted It's an annoying problem.
To find out, if a2sd+ is working, open terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
ls -l /data
In the ouput you should find this
Code:
/app -> /sd-ext/app
/app-private -> /sd-ext/app-private
/dalvik-cache -> /sd-ext/dalvik-cache
If you cannot find this, partition your sd card with gparted again (save important data before this):
1.) Create fat32 partition (primary)
2.) Create ext partition (primary)
3.) Flash e.g. oxygen rom
At last, make sure you followed the instructions in leedroid thread step by step in the correct order.
is the code i should write 1 or i ?
Neither nor. It's an "L" in lower case character.

Low memory on CM7

Hi,
I've installed the last stable CM7. The weird thing is that with it I only get 148mb of total internal memory. I was using Miui before in which I had more then 400mb of total internal memory.
Does anyone knows what's causing this and a solution to have all the memory available.
Thank you

1. What hboot are you using
2. MIUI had "400mb" internal storage, probably because you're using an sd-ext partition on your sd-card and you flashed the D2EXT version of MIUI

I have installed the revolutionary 0.93.0001 (i think) don't have the phone with me right now.
I thought that but the phone supposedly has 512mb internal storage, and 148mb seems very little memory.
Do a little reading and it will be clear why you are having this less memory where your NAND is capable of 512MB. It seems you are using stock hboot. Do you have any idea of partitioning SD card and ext partition? if yes then download s2e and activate the ext feature.

I have a ext partition on sd-card to install apps, but the problem here is the internal memory. Not all the apps can be installed on sd-card and 100mb of free space is not enough for me to install all the apps that need to be on internal memory, like widgets and so on.

Install S2E (make sure you have ext3 partition)
In the app, move "applications", "dalvik-cache" to sd-ext.
Should be enough, leave Application Data on internal memory homever, as it might have impact on performance.
Move it only if you're running out of space again.

The answer you quoted already provided you with the answer you need to get things working. CyanogenMod does not support Data2EXT out of the box. Download S2E app on the Play Store. Launch the app, check all the boxes and reboot. You should have EXT3 partition for this to work otherwise all the options on this app will b e grayed out.
CM7 doesn't see EXT4 for some reason without doing a little modification.
Ok, thank you all for your answers.
What I get from this is that miui has all of those thing you're talking builted-in. Or is cyanogen that doesn't see all the internal memory of the phone?
As I explained in the OP on cyanogen it only shows 148mb of internal memory and on miui it shows almost 500mb.

yes exactly, miui has this built in.
cyanogen won't 'see' the extra partition, but s2e will use it.
i recommend 'diskusage' app to browse your partitions.
also, don't think it has been mentioned here:
- nandroid backup
- s-off if you haven't already
- change hboot to cm7r2
- restore
lookup guides for this, will repartition your internal memory, so it goes up from 148 to 287MB, further reading on memory stuff here
Yeah, exactly what's just been mentioned. Go to alpharev.nl and download the cm7r2 hboot. Flash it and you will have 245mb free.

Thank you again.
I think I'll try Oxygen r2 which give me 332 data memory.
Are the diferences between CM7r2 and Oxygen r2 so big?
CM7 won't fit on Oxygen hboot.

[Q] Storage Low even with link2sd installed & 800mb free internal space

Hey guys,
I have searched so many threads and still I have issue with low space.
Currently I'm on CM11, partitioned an 8GB external sdcard to fat32 and ext2 (1GB). Link2sd is running fine. However when my internal space reaches around 800MB, I can't install apps anymore!!!
I have also used internal to external app and ext2sd from k2wl...it does swap space but the issue is I can't install any apps after that. Is there a better way to work around this issue?
Thanks in advance

remove unnecessary storage apps and just keep link2sd
also wipe sd ext in recovery and remount script then see if it works
if it does not work in current rom i think will definitely work in a fresh rom

Yeah I did format system and sdcard, got 3.7 back from internal memory and created ext2 for link2sd so far so good, wish there was a way to get the other extra 4gb
