Motorola droid 2 overclocks at 1.4Ghz stable at 72-76 Vsel ( i seen ) but our defy's can't do that frequency, inclusive with 80vsel still not stable...
There is any reason? why droid 2 can, but defy doesn't.. in "teori" defy have an omap 3630, the same as droid 2.
Maybe something on the driver? or simply hardware limitation?
thanks
Because that Phone has a CPU that has already a higher default clock.
Even if it is the same CPU, the chip used in the Defy mostly just didnt
meet the required parameters for 1 GHz and was stamped 800 MHz.
So you will in most cases not be able to go that far in OC.

I haven't tried yet 1,4 Ghz.
Now i'm at 1,3 Ghz stable...
Have you tried higher vSel values?

im sorry but Chinese defy runs by default at 1ghz, and with the same Vsel as default 800Mhz....
I don't care about this... but i'm still thinking there is any way to overclock safetly at 1.4Ghz and more like the Droid 2.
Example, HTC HD2, in his time the max overclock at 1.2Ghz ( maximum stable ) and now is stable at 1.5Ghz.... you don't believe? search on hd2 forum...

AFAIK Chinese Defy (ME525) also run at 800Hz by default.
Defy may have same CPU as Droid2, but even same CPU of different production batches often have different overclockability.

Maybe the overclock is not 100% factible.
The pone is precintated to resist wather, and overheats easy.
Well, i'm happy with my 1.3Ghz at 64Vsel.
II'm very new to xda but i successfully flashed SyndicateROM frozen 1.10 and wanted to know what setting i should be placing in setCPU to achieve the advertised overclocked 1.3gHz and undervolted at 1.0gHz, i've read min:200, idle:800, and max:1000-1300. Anyway I appreciate the help and thanks to all of you hard at work in the Android dev community!
You'll get the undervolted 1ghz by default. If you want 1.3ghz, use it as the max.
so if i understand correctly, if i overclock it to 1.3ghz i will be undervolted at 1ghz, so as far as battery life goes, will overclocking it to 1.3ghz give me battery life of the stock 1.0ghz? Sorry for the possibly erroneous questions lol

No. You will see less battery life at 1.3ghz. If you want battery life, don't even bother with SetCPU.
Set min 100, max 1.3ghz ondemand governor. 1ghz is uv automatically when it runs at that, but with 1.3 as your max it may not spend much time in 1.0. If your concerned with battery (UV) then min 100, max 1000 might be what you want. I've been running that and I seriously cannot come up with a single speed complaint. K0 and team have done an amazing job with this thing.

Hi, im just about to flash leedroids 2.2.3 rom, which can oc to 1.8 ghz with setcpu, just wondering if there are any dangers in having it at this speed? anything to be aware of ?
It might fry your device, it might not, you never know. There's no need to run it at 1,8ghz. I'd recommend max 1,2ghz for daily use though everything runs smoot at 1ghz already.
If you overclock to 1.8Ghz you will increase the risks to fry your CPU(and hence, your device will be destroyed). Lol.
Also overclocking too high can drain your battery real fast. As per Hawks556, max 1.2Ghz would be fine.(perhaps it is almost to optimal)
I overclock mine at 1.16Ghz and it is already very smooth in LeeDrOid.
You may sometimes wish to overclock it until 1.8GHz is just to show off to your peers only. Maybe through quadrants. But later on make sure you underclock it back.
Cheers. =)
thanks for the help, lol whole thing just froze while i was reading it better underclock it lol : /
OC up to 1.5ghz should not harm your device.
Take a look at ths HTC Flyer: it has the same CPU as the DHD but it's set to 1.5ghz by default.
So there is no risk in overclocking up to 1.5ghz in my opinion.

Hello people
Today I bought my new defy and I'm testing the possibilities of the device.
After some misgivings, I've made a progressive overclock and hit the 3GHz mark.
Someone has already gone beyond that and know if the device remains stable? Here it is running at 3GHz for an hour and not warmed more than 1 º C and not spent too much power. And yes, he is set to keep the clock all the time.
Did someone made this as well?
Edit: I can't post the Screenshots 'cause I'm a new user. If someone are interested in it, I can send it by pm.
I went to 1ghz and no further... you must have money to burn (or phones to burn!)
The phone didn't overheat. Even after one hour at 3GHz, the temperature did not rise more than 1 º C.
I wonder if anyone else has ventured within the limits of overclocking.
Even at 3GHZ, there's nothing gain as no apps or games need that power to run at the moment. All apps and games would run smooth even at 1GHZ. Possibility at this 3GHZ is only a fried processor if the phone won't do the auto shut down.

It's still on and working without overheating, but I noticed the needless of this clock
I'll set the clock for 1.5ghz.
What rom do you recommend to me? I'm using Cyanogenmod rc 1.5.
3GHz is impossible, over 1.5GHz CPU can't work, you can set 10GHz, but will be exactly the same as 1.5GHz
May it be 3.0ghz only on the display but no in the system?
I'm new on this phone and don't know so much about it
3GHz? Hehe!
Yes, on screen it's shows 3GHz. But, like bvbfan said, I think it's only on screen and not the true frequence of the clock.
What program I can use to check this?
I'm using CyanogenMod Rc 1.5
Im running my Defy on 1 Ghz for ages now.
Never had a problem and i think going any further will not be healthy for your phone especially when you increase the vsel over 58
however you make it happen, it is fake. simply because of no heat. it is not really 3GHz, just a number you see on screen. run Quarant and see if it is really 3GHz
The current kernel won't let you overclock anywhere above 1.3 ghz. Its ARMv7 CPU limit I believe.

Just download SetVsel from Play Store, then search in Google for Defy overclocking.
Overclocked Since 1 Year
I am using Aero Control with the following settings:
GPU freq : 266MHz
VSEL Levels:
400/34
800/44
1100/56
1300/66
Governer: Interavtive
Current ROM: CM11 by Quarx 2
Kernel: 29/7 kernel by Blechdose
It is stable. No heating issues whatsoever
Hi,

oh my bad, then maybe you should start with telling me what the differences are, you surely know better...
it is really my fault, as defy and defy+ are two completely different phones with different hardware and should also be treated differently...
or just accept the fact that they are the exact same phone, and you can overclock them the same way... -.-'
maybe next time you should search before posting stupid questions which have been answered hunders of times and maybe you dont have to tell someone off who has more knowledge in the field than you... your ignorance pisses me off... good luck with others helping you!

Hey dont be mad i didn't want to offend you
You say that they are the same but DEFY is 0.8ghz and DEFY+ is 1ghz (and they have not the same battery but I think we dont care here isn't it ?),
then the values will not be the same isn't it ?
Overclocking would be :
DEFY is 0.8ghz to 1ghz
DEFY+ is 1ghz to 1.2ghz
No ?
Sorry Im new and French..
But don't be mad I didn't want to offend you

Dude, you can use the same values on both phones, have the same processor, and the same hardware actually, except for the battery.

Ohh ok thank you so if I understand well Motorola have overclocked Defy+ to 1GHz by defaut ?
But we still can overclock it more ? 1200MHz is good isn't it ?
Defy and Defy+ have not the same chipset (TI OMAP 3610 and TI OMAP 3620 I've saw that on http://www.gsmarena.com)) but same CPU you are sure ?

yes, i think the 36"10" and "20" it makes reference to the underclock or overclock, you can overclock this cpu up to 1400, or more i think, but you can risk your cpu lifetime, 1200 is the maximum clock that you can overclock without damages (like droid 2 global), in any case, for a normal user, 1000 is enough, or 1100 maybe, but on 1200 or more, your battery wont last long.

there is no such thing as omap 3610 and 3620, only 3630, which is present in both defy and defy+ (btw, this is the processor, not the chipset... or both, but it is used to reference the cpu). and you can easily overclock the defy to 1.2 and even above that. my phone (normal defy) was running stable at 1.35GHz, so dont be afraid to OC to 1.2GHz!
Thanks guys so im gonna overclock it to 1.2ghz with vsel calculator and setvsel i hope my phone is gonna be faster

set it in bootmenu, and forget setvsel. i bootmenu, change frequencies/vsels to the values you like, and i recommend changing to either boosted or smartass governor, and dont forget to save at the bottom!
i have used setvsel for months, but it doesnt make sense to have an app for doing what the built-in bootmenu already can, it just takes space in both rom and ram.
Ok Thanks you very much dude, ill try to do it
Im Just back from the Bootmenu i dont understand anything lol, ill try to find a good tutorial
set these:
vsel1: 17 freq1: 300
vsel2: 32 freq2: 600
vsel3: 47 freq3: 900
vsel4: 62 freq4: 1200
governor: smartass (or boosted, try them both out and choose the on you like more)
go to the bottom and save, reboot!

Thanks you sooooooo much !!
I'll try later because my battery is empty
Ok I done everithing it works
But 2 questions:
1. You said me to put those values because they are your favourites ones or because you found them somewhere ?
2. What's the difference between Smartass and Boosted ? And I heard about Smartass v2, should I install it ?
Thanks you so much !
You still here zakoo2 ? ^^

about a year ago i spent quite a lot of time testing cpu settings and i figured out a formula for setting vsel for a specific frequency: vsel=(MHz/20)+2
this is stabil for most people (theres even an app based on this formula ).
to know more about governors, read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817!
about smartassv2, it has been implemented into the quarx nightlies with the name boosted, so no need to flash.
although i still flash the original zip, because that flashes sio scheduler too.
