This is probably a stupid question, but for me it does need an answer .I made a back up right before I flashed my current Rom, can i just restore to that point and wipe cache/data and just flash a different ROM? or do i have to flash back to stock dk28 with odin and then reroot and start from scratch?
Yes you can restore and then wipe and flash something else. Why not just wipe now and.flash.without restoring?

need more info. how did you go about trying to do this? what steps did you? More info on what you did can help someone figure out where you went wrong. Did you create a nandroid backup before you flashed the ROM? what recovery are you using? Did you wipe data (factory reset), cache, and davlik cache prior to flashing the ROM? If you did make a back up, and can get to Recovery (volume down and power button, then select recovery) I would wipe all data, cache and davlik cache, then flash a nandroid backup. If you didn't make a nandroid backup, I would try wiping everything again, and try flashing the ROM a second time.

THAT SHOULD GET U BACK TO STOCK
This may be a stupid question so please don't flame me for it but it's a simple and quick one.
If i do a factory restore on a rooted stock ROM for the Incredible, will i LOSE root and have to re-root??
If you do a Factory Reset, wipe, etc from recovery, you will not lose root, but will have to re-enter your accounts and the like when you re-boot. If you flash an original ruu, you will lose root and have to re-root.
If I am wrong on this, someone please correct me.
What if i do the factory restore from within the ROM itself instead of doing it from recovery?
Any difference there?

No, as said above, if you flash RUU back to stock, it puts the factory image on your phone. If you do a factory restore, it wipes all data from your phone and you need to reinstall everything. It will not change a custom rom back to a stock rom.
Excellent. Thanks man!
Damn, he's quick to respond. Ditto.
Ok I'm a bit confuse with amon ra recovery. I recently did an nandroid back up with fresh Rom 4.0. Then I flash a new Rom which is omj Rom. So I decided to nandroid restore back to fresh and once done I'm stuck on the HTC logo for very long time. So I keep on wipe and restore over and over still same problem. So I went and reflash fresh again after that I went back to amon ra recovery and nandroid restore and it works. so I'm confuse about it. do I need to be on the same Rom to restore back? I can't restore back to different Rom?

You can restore to anything that you have made a nandroid of, normally.
Just wipe everything in the Wipe setting, and I usually wipe dalvik and cache again, separately, then restore the nandroid you want.
TBH,m I have a nandroid of stock/rooted that I restore to before I flash any new ROM

Some people say it isn't necessary to wipe, but it seems like you may need to. Try wiping data, cache and dalvik then restoring next time.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
I always tend to wipe a few times and always use the format_all.zip... which unfortunately I do not have a link to at the moment. Make sure you wire the cache and davlik-cache separately imo
....after going back to stock and doing a factory reset?

What is your question..? How to restore a nandroid? You need to flash a kernel with the recovery you used to nandroid baked into the initramfs.
If it is a backup of an ICS ROM I assume you made the backup with el26 with CWM5. Odin the kernel, boot to recovery and restore. After that you will need to flash or odin a ics kernel to get the backup booting.
If it is a GB backup and you're on GB now, just flash the kernel and restore it.
Sorry should be more detailed. If I unroot go back to stock el29 do a factory reset so that it deletes everything on my phone apps etc than root it again get cwm and do a restore from the nandroid. Is that safe.
Ya, that's perfectly safe as long as it's a GB nandroid.

It would be easier to Odin back to EL29 then use the Auto Root Package to install CWM on. Go into recovery and use Calk's Format All to wipe everything. Then you can restore the nandroid you have as long as it's a GB backup.
Thanks

Non emergency as I still can get into recovery. Don't really care about fixing the boot loop, thought I'd try out an ics rom. Quick question. I hear about odin'ing back to el26. Is this strictly for changing ics roms or do I need to do this from an el29 rom?
If not, I'm assuming, I can just straight up odin a current rooted stock, then recovery, then a fancy rom. This correct? Maybe throw in the wipe script for good measure?
Reinstall
wipe cache, and dalvik, and try rebooting.
if he doesnt work, wipe everything, do a fresh install.

If your flashing an ICS ROM, always Odin EL26. Next boot into recovery and flash your ICS ROM of choice.
Yeah, I've tried the wiping caches thing, and still nothing.
It was themed with dark fire, but I decided to go into rom tools and play around.
I started messing with the status bar icons, and poof, boot loop/won't boot.
