Non emergency as I still can get into recovery. Don't really care about fixing the boot loop, thought I'd try out an ics rom. Quick question. I hear about odin'ing back to el26. Is this strictly for changing ics roms or do I need to do this from an el29 rom?
If not, I'm assuming, I can just straight up odin a current rooted stock, then recovery, then a fancy rom. This correct? Maybe throw in the wipe script for good measure?
Reinstall
wipe cache, and dalvik, and try rebooting.
if he doesnt work, wipe everything, do a fresh install.

If your flashing an ICS ROM, always Odin EL26. Next boot into recovery and flash your ICS ROM of choice.
Yeah, I've tried the wiping caches thing, and still nothing.
It was themed with dark fire, but I decided to go into rom tools and play around.
I started messing with the status bar icons, and poof, boot loop/won't boot.

I have been trying a number of different methods to fully root my EVO, yet for the life of me, cannot get a new ROM to flash properly. Each time I try flashing a new ROM, I end up in an endless boot loop & must go back into my SD card & rename my stock ROM back to 'PC36IMG.zip' in order to get out of it. I have heard that this sometimes happens from not erasing the dalvik cache, yet I have tried that too & still no luck.
Does anyone maybe have some pointers on why I may be experiencing this issue each time? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
you rename your stock rom to pc36img.zip? What is a stock rom? Where did you ever read to do that?
I don't know what directions you read, but Something is very wrong.
Well it's A stock ROM that I picked up during the many different methods of rooting I have tried... For some reason, that has been the only way to get my phone to boot after trying to flash a ROM to it...
Most of the time if you wind up in a boot loop after flashing a new rom it's because you didn't wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache before flashing.
If you are using clockwork recovery it may be your problem. It has been reported to not complete wipes fully leading to post flash boot loops. Try amon-ra recovery.
when i flash a rom and kernal do i flash the rom then boot it up then reboot into recovery and davlik and cache wipe then flash the kernal? or is there a better way?
That's what I usually do. I think devs around here recommend that you do it the way you said.
Yup, that's how I do it.
I usually flash rom then kernel immediatey after. Every once in a while I will get a hung boot screen, but then I will just reflash and do it the way you originally posted. If there are any themes or "fixes" you are trying to flash, I always boot once before flashng.
So I have Droid incredible #1. Rooted s-off. I have before been able to flash custom roms. But I haven't tried for a while, and now I can't do any without it getting caught in a boot loop after it installs and reboots. I've tried cm7, miui, bugless beast, and probably 4 more tonight. All do it, but all let me remove battery and restore back to a backup I have. one possibility is its been so long since I've flashed a ROM, I may be on a custom ROM right now but thinking it's stock. Does it make a difference if I flash a ROM while already in another ROM? I'm not too techy but I have an idea of some stuff. It's not a big deal the phone works fine the way it is its just disappointing not being able to flash one I want. Thank you guys!
When flashing a new ROM, make sure, in recovery, you wipe data/factory reset, wipe system, and wipe boot. Then flash the ROM.
I've been trying to install a new rom on my epic 4g touch and I'm currently running blazer rom 4.0 and trying to try out new roms like calks new 3.0 gb rom but it gets stuck on the boot screen and I tried a fresh Odin from stock and rooted and cwmd but it gets stuck on cwm and even in worst case, it's got rid of my cwm to where I had no choice but to Odin back to stock
Which recovery are you using to flash? If you are using hitman that is your problem. When I tried to flash Blazer 4.0 SAME thing happened to me. Try a different recovery. I have had excellent luck with gunslinger 1.41.
Which ever version rouge 5.0.2.7 is

Alright so you Odin'd back to stock now what I would do is reinstall CWM then flash the Gunslinger kernal then retry. Also when you flash the rom make sure you wipe Cache, delvic cache, wipe data factory reset. Then go to mounts and storage and wipe system. Then flash.

I had the same issue when trying to install blazer 4.1 coming from calks 3.0. The flash would go thru with no errors but wouldn't boot. Then I had to Odin to restore the phone. What worked for me was downloading the blazer from on my pc then sending it over to my phone. Flashed then no problems. Maybe it was a bad download?

Use sfhub's one-click to Oding to Stock EL29 (full reset!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101. Then use his AutoRoot [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 ]and add CWM+Rogue.
After downloading (and before extracting the zip of course) check the MD5 and make sure you got the full downloads!
This will give a full stock AND a good CWM. Trying to do it any other way is silly in my opinion. Especially with all the bricks.
Then you can boot into recovery and flash away.

Second that! Blazer 4.0 had some new frame work baked in... So a full wipe is needed when switching to and from blazer 4.x
I've used calks format all and haven't had any problems

I have the Sprint S3 with 4.1.2. Last night I rooted it and it worked fine. I then flashed CWM Recovery and rebooted, all was fine. Tried to put on Liquid Smooth rom and didn't have gapps, attempted to flash gapps but came up with error. Got fed up with it and tried to flash the Synergy Rom. I cleared dalvik and cache, made a backup and flashed. Went through the whole process and auto rebooted afterwards. Went to SAMSUNG on boot and screen went black before finishing and will not go further. I can get into stock recovery but not CWM Recovery. I'd like to have the liquidsmooth rom on there but i also downloaded the stock 4.1.2 rom just in case. How can I get past this to get into either CWM recovery or somehow flash a rom from Odin? I'm stuck.

So you were able to get into the custom recovery (CWM) a couple of times before flashing Synergy Rom, but now it's reverted to stock recovery? When you turn your phone off and hold Volume up, menu, and power it boots into the stock recovery? I've never heard of that happening before.
The best way is to re-do your root process through Odin a-la qbking77's tutorial. This will install CWM again and then you can flash away. Make sure you check your md5sums on the Rom files you downloaded before flashing them. That's the most common cause of bad flashes around these parts.

I've ended up fixing it but had to flash stock 4.1.1 on it from Odin and then it automatically went to 4.1.2 after reboot. Thanks
But yes, it was going to CWM just fine before I flashed Synergy after Liquidsmooth. Thats how I put on Synergy. But at least it was just a soft-brick.
Did you wipe (everything) between flashes? Even roms of the same version can have issues if you flash one over the other
By everything I mean /system, /data (factory reset), dalvik cache, and cache
