Possible to convert 2.1 to EXT4? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked on XDA and googled a few times and nothing has a definite answer. So is it possible to convert a 2.1 ROM to EXT4?

Its possable. The only problem is were moving forward. Everyone is devolping for 2.2 now. The file system is there. You just need the rom and kernel devs to add support for ext4 and the cwm
Haterz gonna hate. Just keep hatin. I brush them haterz off. It ain't my fault my epic's e-penis is bigger then the evo's e-penis.

What were the changes to make dk28 ext4 compatible? Is it just changing the mounting in the init.d? If so, then that is a pretty simple change for someone to make to 2.1.
Also, there is the amend2edify converter if you want to update a rom for cwm3, or you can use the 2.5.1.0/2.5.1.2 combo to write to ext4 and keep amend support.

Openfire Wildfire Froyo [RLS1] [11/28/2010]

i ported openfire from wildfire.. It is without sense.. and i think its slower than other one.. i didnt tried it too much.. but, its smaller than scoot cyanogen rom..
I think its a good step to port more roms from wildfire.. im working on rom with sense... but its really hard..
here is download link
http://www.4shared.com/file/RAsh0VV2/androidinstall.html
working all on NAND
thanks to clemsyn very much
Can You add screens?
It looks same as Clemsyn's build to me.
Thats because... Clemsyns build if I recall is the wildfire rom ported to the dream ported to the kaiser lol.

no his isnt a wildfire port his is from somewhere else, but either way its still AOSP android so it will look the same no matter what, minus a few apps our fresh froyo build is really close to it if you run it stock too

Yep I know it was a port of a port, just couldnt remember what device.
Hey Bro nice work, May be you & clemsyn can get Sense working on it, that would be awesome. Can't believe I fell in love with HTC sense when I first saw it on Hero

That might not be possible. Our kaisers are pretty ram limited. Unless its on the dream then were not getting it. Ever.
even if they do get it working its not going to fit on nand at all
Then we can install system on SDcard [Ext2 Partition] & Data on Nand like the Super Hero ROM from incubus. Anyway, installed your ROM looking good one issue
it can't Detect my SD card [2 GB Fat32].
is it as stable and fast as clemyn's froyo?

We could do that but like I said, we are pretty ram and cpu power limited lol.

I agree, one way to do it though is to increase the system size using atools and then install data on SD partition (ext2). I do hope I could help out but my kaiser is down

This is just a vold.fstab issue...easy fix.
It is a little bit slow but stable as rock; I can't find any enhancements or new features other than clemsyn's.
Clemsyn's Froyo build has worked best for me. No offense to other Chefs but all of kaiser community is just amazing.
No offense taken! Everyone's builds are different. Everyone also has different picks of what they like. I don't think any of the dev's are out to become an "undisputed kaiser build champion" lol. We just get ideas and then release them.

i think it is possible.. when we put all htc Sense apks on /data/app_s/*.*
system part will be smaller.. and we can install all on NAND.. but i think /data should be on ext2 because 40mb or i dont know how much free is on nand, isnt much
how can i fix this:
[ xxx.xxxxxx] request_suspend_state: wakeup (0->0) at xxxxxxxxxxxx (1980-01-01 00:04::58.xxxxxxxxx UTC)
[ xxx.xxxxxx] init: untracked pid xxx exited
is problem in init.rc?

Stripped Down Small Sense ROM <150MB

Does anyone know of a sense ROM that is stripped out and under 150MB for the /system partition. I use custom MTD partitions and its a pain to keep having to adjust them when switching between a Sense ROM (for EPST and PRL update functions). I know I could increase my partition size, but it seems a shame to waste over 100MB for the difference from Sense to AOSP. I have thought about stripping out all the Apks from Fresh or the like but it still is way to huge. I seem to remember reading for the HeroC a long time ago someone had created a stripped out Sense ROM for just this purpose.
I think konis elite is under 150 mb its preety slick too

Thanks, I removed some stuff and got the system partition down to about 140MBs, hopefully it still works.

I have a stripped down version of CM 7rc1 thats under 70mb
Try mikfroyo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883026 the base is only 165mb, so once you strip out some stuff you should be good to go.

GinbgerBread roms not quite there yet?

I have been testing a few gb roms including RCM and reflex. I have found them to be slower when compared to Leedrioid 2.4.1. Are the latest gb roms not quite there yet due to there currently been no official 2.3 ruu?
I have been using InsertCoin since the beginning and it has just gone from strength to strength. Very very fast and faster than Leedroid v2.4.1
Thats one I havent tried, will give it a go.
I'm using LeeDroid 3.0.5 GB and it's freakin' awesome! Built-in task management is such a welcome addition, works really well IMO...
I also used LeeDrOiD v3.0.5. It is really nice. But now i use Redux v1.2 (it is an aosp-gingerbread v2.3.3). It feels so much faster and smoother. Seems to be more stable, too. It does not have Sense, nevertheless i like it much more than leedroid after a short time for adjustment.

insertcoin now is nice for me. v20 that is. tried v17 a week ago maybe and it was laggy at times. v20 is nice
Both Insertcoin and Reflex S roms are very fast and responsive roms. By the way, if you feel comfortable changing your partition tables (really easy with android flasher) You should give the CM7 partion table roms a go, they're even faster than the normal A2SD versions. (Insertcoin and RCMix have this for instance)
Hi, sorry for noob question.. hv never rooted/installed custom roms, but will do that very soon.
What are ext3 and ext4 partitions used for? in tutorials of the dev of InsertCoin seen that only ext4 created (so, why I am confused) & assume ext1 and 2 assigned already to the system, right?

NB: Everything i say here i say under correction.
Ext 3 & 4 are extended file systems, these are needed by ROMS which use A2SD (Apps2SD). These file systems mimic "internal storage" space as when you use a custom ROM that uses A2SD all the apps you install will install to the Ext 3/4 partition. Normally if a ROM says its needs Ext 4 the you need to partition your SD card with a Ext 4 partition or the ROM wont work. Whereas if the sat Ext2/3/4 then you can use either.
Hope this helped

I have decided to go back to 2.4.1, so much faster than the current gb roms, will look at gb when the official software is out and the developers can tweak it.
I tried Redux and Oxygen. Fast gb roms imo.
i like Reflex S v1.9.9
But now Videocamera is still a problem
I had MMS issues on GB roms, despite they are quite fast, they feel too buggy to me, that's why I reflashed a stock Froyo rom (that is bug free)

Hi. Could you pass on a little information to me please? I have Leedroid 2.4.1(Froyo). I'm using A2SD with an ext3 partition. Not using Sense.
Would like to give a Gingerbread ROM a try.
Is there anything I need to do special/different when putting a GB based ROM onto my Desire as oppose to when I've upgraded a Froyo based one?
I'm thinking Radio updates or Nandroid backup or....?
Thanks
miui rocks and now its 2.3.4 check it out miuiandroid .com
Yes i can confirm that, im using cmiui. Its the best miui version. I think its the best because i cant find bugs ^^
In Addition: if u try it u will never have an other rom. Anymor, so many features its incredible and so easy to use

Thx mate.. and what about S-OFF ? is security-off a 'must' for custom roms? or just for some certain purposes?

DevNull, the fastest ROM I've had since rooting back in May last year.
20 Seconds to boot from completely off, and insanely fast to use.

[Q] CM ROM with EXT2 support?

i want to run Backtrack 5 on android, and one of the biiggest problems i'm having is the lack on ext2 support on CM ROMs, i flashed virtuous sense (stock sense 2.1) and backtrack works.
so, is there any CM ROM with ext2 support for the DZ? even if it's old, i just want to make it happen.
thanks

sense 2.1 rom + overclock kernel: which is the best?

Hi, I saw that there are some alternatives but none up to date comparison or advice.
I love having stock rom, but I want to overclock it a bit and to have init.d support and int2ext support.
So, for kernel:
- Dust
- Cake
- Sense_fire
which (and what version) is the most stable/the best?
Rom: should I keep stock rom or install a stock-like rom? As for the kernel... Which is the most stable?
Basically I hope to have a rock-solid-like-stock device with a rom that is stock-like and has init.d support and a kernel that supports oc, ext4 (and maybe swap). Is too much to ask?
Last question: to swap or not to swap, that is the question... I red a lot about swap but there are very different opinions and I'm a bit confused. What do you advise?
Thank you very much!

Well, I already saw that and I'm considering your work. But I ask to you (I think you are using your own kernel and rom) is it rock-solid? What does it have better than other roms or kernels (like dust or cake)?
I know that everyone should try things and there are different opinions and so on... But unfortunatly I have to "tweak" a phone that I can't have in my hands for too much time and too much times to try different roms and kernels, and for a rom-change I should also backup and restore everything, because is the primary phone of a friend. So I'm searching about opinions of users that have tried different things to try to find the better one at the first shot

oh okay..yeah i am using my sense_fire_v1 kernel because i dont like OC.and int2ext4+ with 500 mb ext4 and 500 mb swap and my phone is faster than it was on stock kernel.
dust and cake are good but they are old and also drain toomuch battery so i dont use them instead i made new kernels.
edit : Questions should be in Q & A forum.
as you are asking for opinions it's okay but remove that question sign.

Ok, I'll try your kernel+rom... But for swap... What about sd card life? And if I want to use it, I should enable it in any way or is automatically enabled if I have the partition on the sd card?
