[Q] CM ROM with EXT2 support? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i want to run Backtrack 5 on android, and one of the biiggest problems i'm having is the lack on ext2 support on CM ROMs, i flashed virtuous sense (stock sense 2.1) and backtrack works.
so, is there any CM ROM with ext2 support for the DZ? even if it's old, i just want to make it happen.
thanks

What rom do you use at the moment and why?

We have got many good developers here working on different ROMS.
I just would like to know what ROM are you all using at the moment and why.
I used most of the time Sense rom from Leedroid. I love his boot image and the fact it is sense rom. I tried Sense HD and I like it, but until the camera works is no good for me for day to day use. Last couple of days I use MIUI and it is really different but nice (like iphone OS but on better device)
I've used Defrost, Opendesire, Villainrom, SupervillainHD and Oxygen. Like the ASOP roms the best, as they are the fastest, allow me to choose the addons more (not 3 or more programs for one task, if i don't want to use Sense apps), and are more versatily (at least, appear to me to be so).
Moved to general as this is in no way pertaining to ROM development.
fair enough. I just tought the poll might help people to choose a rom to use/try.
I am using pinky desire classsic at the moment .
CM 6.1 RC - cause simply I hate to update alot. I'm considering it the latest satisfying my needs!
using pays sense rom
tried auraxtsense rom, but reverted back to pays
it has the best dialer i have seen in a rom.
would like to try sense HD, but wont until they fix the camera

What does Stock mean if you've got Sense?? Sense is stock on the Desire...

By sense rom he probably mean roms like leedroid etc.
On that assumption I voted stock as I'm running the stock 2.29.405.2 WWE ROM
Why? As it does all I need it to
OpenDesire
I went from stock ROM to OpenDesire 4.0.36. I do not miss Sense at all and BT keyboard now works (why, HTC, oh why?). The only thing I miss from Sense is the weather widget.
Too bad OpenDesire will not be updated any longer as from the final 4.1 version. I hope it gets Gingerbread (2.3) in the final build.
Leedroid, because it has apps2sd by default and is pretty clean and has some other nice little touches (but still pretty close to stock) like a transparent notification drawer
I tried all rom types, but in the end I return to Sense. People who say AOSP or Cyanogen are faster have clearly never used a sense rom. It's at least on par and scrolling is smoother.

yes that's exactly what I mean
Teppic74's Rom and tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
With the GPU and SD card patched kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819601
And a theme I made using UOT kitchen.
I like sense, and I wanted something relatively close to stock but with A2SD and a few other bits and pieces.

[Q] Difference Sense / Non-Sense Kernels

hey guys, i do have a question.
I was wondering why there are separate kernels for Sense/AOSP roms. Is it not possible to flash sense-kernels onto a non-sense (no pun intended ) based rom?
From a technical point of view (im a coder myself albeit not hugely experienced in the realm of low-level android things) i could image there are some special interfaces for sense which would simply be unused if flashed onto an AOSP rom. How does a sense-kernel differ from a non-sense one?
I have been looking around for this quite a bit but couldn't find anything (the massive amount of posts in generel might have something to do with that )
The only difference I know is in the init.rc, Sense need to load HTC Framework's

Good question, I've been tempted to try a non-sense kernel on my sense rom
If I remember right the sense kernels use a different way to deal with some things (Don't remember it. Long time ago I did something with sense roms/kernels. Think it was Bluetooth or SDCard mounting for PC). The desire CM kernel is a modified nexus kernel to fit the desire.
So maybe your device will boot loop or many things won't work.

Well init.rc is part of the initial ramdisk, not the kernel.
(It is quite easy to unpack a boot.img, modify the initial ramdisk, and repack the boot img)
If Sense really need some settings in the kernel, that are different from what an
AOSP kernel needs, it would be nice if one of the Sense kernel builders would tell
us what it is.

data2whatever

hi guys maybe a stupid question, but at the moment im trying teppics stock gingerbread rom with data2whatever, is there away of gettin all of this together into a zip file to create a rom with it all in,so there would be no need to install data2whatever after the install of rom.
i spose what im asking is can i take off my phone the settings into a zip file?
this probably makes no sense and my grammar is bad!! appologies!!
IMHO data2sd is the best solution over data2w or data2ext. It was the first and is the most advanced. Perhaps look into the starburst roms by Droidzone as these are designed to work with data2sd.
rootsu do u no if i can flash droidzones data2sd that he uses in his roms on any rom?
Although I am not rootSU, I feel to answer: I am pretty sure you cannot do this. But why don't you ask droidzone himself?
thanks for your help mattdroid. i shall be fowarding question to him aswell. i have just ran it on teppics stock gingerbread works seems bit laggy tho.
The data2sd droidzone uses is sibere's.
They kind of work together on these things (although to what extent I am unsure).
I used it on Gingervillain and Defrost, although its better on sense IMHO.
Sibere's thread is here:

I am runnig cm7.1 .... I was wondering if some one can tell me which room is the smallest and stable and off course the coolest. I just have 81.17 mg left in my internal memory.. i also have a 32gb sd card ... I love cm7 but i have no idea if there is a better and smaller room out there ...thx for you help....
Somenthig close to ics...lol
Try dGB (just klick on my sig).
For nearly unlimited internal memory use a ROM in combination with DATA2SD / DATA2EXT-script.
I believe you have to decide what you think is cool... Check out what other people choose and their motivations in the other thread... here
Personally I left Sense 3.5 projects and went to stable and fast, and installed AN-Droid 2.1.0 data++, that gave me speed, space and (for me) a bug free ROM.
An attic would be very small and cool. hmmph

Does any body know is there is a room for htc desire call skyrider.... and also i saw like a spinning cube when u change screen to screen can any1 tell me how to get that effect....thx so much ... for ur info i am running cm7.1 and go launcher ex.. please help.... I want to make my droid sexier.....lol thx
small and stable ? well you can go past aosop based roms such as oxygen etc , if you need more space for apps you could use droid zones flashable data2sd script .zip , does the job well and since you have a large sd card it should work well etc ,dont forget to partian your sd before flashing this script .
Thank u . I'll Try it
Go for MIUI rom by XJ. Very fast, great support and stable.
Miui is very different and you would want to test before using it daily... questions about ROM's are awkward because ithere is no best rom, its your opinion..
My 2 cents:
what ROM is the best it's hard to say, because it depends on what are you looking for.
Usually when it comes to HTC Desire we have 3 macro-families of ROMS:
1) AOSP ROMS - Like CM7 or Oxygen, they are based on the STANDARD Android OS, so there is NO SENSE interface. They are usually pretty stable and light, they are very small etc. but only you can say if they are cool
2) Gingerbread - Sense 1.9/2.1 ROMS - These ROMS are somewhat similar to the stock one, with a newer version of Android (2.3.x) and a version of Sense which is close to the stock one. Most of them feature scripts like A2SD+ of Data++ for storing applications on the SD card, so that you won't finish the space too soon as it happens with the stock firmware
3) Sense 3/3.5 or ICS4 - Here we go advanced, Android is usually 2.3.5 and you have a SENSE interface taken from the latest HTC devices, if you want my opinion these ROMs are the coolest, but since they are very different from what was planned for the Desire, you can get many different issues, some programs not working as they are intended to and so on. For sure the overall experience is slower, since the CPU and RAM are downsized for such an interface. ICS ROMS are based on the new Android 4 OS, there's no SENSE interface and they are mostly alpha or beta releases, so if you want something stable you better leave them alone
Here's the link to the desire index thread where you can find all the ROMS for your Desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
Hope I've been useful
If you enjoy cm7, I have an idea for you to get much more space for apps. First of all download GParted and make two partitions first will be about 30GB fat32 primary partition and second will be 2 GB ext4 (primary ofc). Then go to this thread and flash INT2SD script. After that almost all space from your ext4 partition will be free for apps (ext4 partition is recommended to be 1-2 GB).
So much info thx

Daily diver for non-tecnical little sister. Link2SD? GB? ICS?

My littlest sister just "inherited" a Wildfire S from my mother, who got a new phone.
Now, the stock ROM is completely useless beause of the lack of space. So I have unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM to work some magic on it.
I am considering installing a 2.3.5 Rom with Link2SD. But of course, if an ICS ROM is stable enough (modpunks CM9 seems to be the best?) and is pretty swift, ICS is better than GB.
Some questions though:
1: Is Link2SD a good choice amon the ther A2sd-options like Int2ext4+?
2: Is any of the ICS ROMs (like modpunks) an OK choice for a non technical kid after it's setup? Or if not, what GB ROM should I go for?
I live quite a few hours away, so it should preferably "just work" ones it's set up. Of course, it ill occasionally hang, reboot etc., but the less the better, and she won't be able to do anything techie to fix anything. Fixing permissions nd wiping dalvic cache from recovery is pretty much wht I cn expect to talk her through.
int2ext+ is best... and ICS is stable now... try paranoid android ICS, it is good for daily usage... If your sister found any difficulty using ICS then going for wildchild/hense mod GB roms ...
May I suggest miui or cm alpha 9 only by mod punk. Int2ext+ is a good option as she won't have to go into technicalities. It'll work in background and would be faster than data 2sd.

Thank you. modpunks alpha 9 seems to work well with the miui camera except for automatic back light - but with a toggle in notification drawer that is not a problem. is there any particular int2ext+ I should use? It seems to be more than one modified version out there.
edit: iI think I'll just use CronMod int2ext4+.

I use int2ext4+, Thats specially if you have a ext4 partition. There aren't more than int2ext+ version. They are either int2ext, ext(bla bla)...
So just find int2ext+ or int2ext4+...
Here's link for ext4 one : http://d-h.st/EVF
Thank you very much for your help. It seems to run surprisingly fast with Modpunks CM9 Alpha 9 and int2ext4+, especially after I changed the CPU settings to 768 or something max. Now she's playing some silly game or another, and is indeed very happy with her "new" phone. Now her parents will be afraid of what and who she'll be texting on kik or whatever with her smatphone, but with no credit card connected and mobile data turned of, at least she'll not ruin them.
THIS
jellyking1.0 cm10 (soon to updated as promised by the creator) + int2ext+ like you said + eoghan's kernel + 806MHz cpu clock

Hi, sukhjut321, do you know which custom sense Rom can run int2ext+/int2ext4+ ? I am running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797588 sense 3,5 rom now but non of the int2ext is working. D2sd is slow and lagy for me. Any particular sense rom recommended for working int2ext?
hensemod, wildchild, alaadragon fire are sense 2.1 based roms that support int2ext scripts... supreme mod also supports it but it is little over themed, you can use it if that wont bother you..

I never tried any sense rom with int2ext. It'd be great if you post a new thread asking. I don't wanna give you any wrong suggestion.
Why don't you go for link2sd? Even I switched back to it gives me more freedom.
