Daily diver for non-tecnical little sister. Link2SD? GB? ICS? - HTC Wildfire S

My littlest sister just "inherited" a Wildfire S from my mother, who got a new phone.
Now, the stock ROM is completely useless beause of the lack of space. So I have unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM to work some magic on it.
I am considering installing a 2.3.5 Rom with Link2SD. But of course, if an ICS ROM is stable enough (modpunks CM9 seems to be the best?) and is pretty swift, ICS is better than GB.
Some questions though:
1: Is Link2SD a good choice amon the ther A2sd-options like Int2ext4+?
2: Is any of the ICS ROMs (like modpunks) an OK choice for a non technical kid after it's setup? Or if not, what GB ROM should I go for?
I live quite a few hours away, so it should preferably "just work" ones it's set up. Of course, it ill occasionally hang, reboot etc., but the less the better, and she won't be able to do anything techie to fix anything. Fixing permissions nd wiping dalvic cache from recovery is pretty much wht I cn expect to talk her through.

int2ext+ is best... and ICS is stable now... try paranoid android ICS, it is good for daily usage... If your sister found any difficulty using ICS then going for wildchild/hense mod GB roms ...

May I suggest miui or cm alpha 9 only by mod punk. Int2ext+ is a good option as she won't have to go into technicalities. It'll work in background and would be faster than data 2sd.

Thank you. modpunks alpha 9 seems to work well with the miui camera except for automatic back light - but with a toggle in notification drawer that is not a problem. is there any particular int2ext+ I should use? It seems to be more than one modified version out there.
edit: iI think I'll just use CronMod int2ext4+.

I use int2ext4+, Thats specially if you have a ext4 partition. There aren't more than int2ext+ version. They are either int2ext, ext(bla bla)...
So just find int2ext+ or int2ext4+...
Here's link for ext4 one : http://d-h.st/EVF

Thank you very much for your help. It seems to run surprisingly fast with Modpunks CM9 Alpha 9 and int2ext4+, especially after I changed the CPU settings to 768 or something max. Now she's playing some silly game or another, and is indeed very happy with her "new" phone. Now her parents will be afraid of what and who she'll be texting on kik or whatever with her smatphone, but with no credit card connected and mobile data turned of, at least she'll not ruin them.

THIS
jellyking1.0 cm10 (soon to updated as promised by the creator) + int2ext+ like you said + eoghan's kernel + 806MHz cpu clock

Hi, sukhjut321, do you know which custom sense Rom can run int2ext+/int2ext4+ ? I am running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797588 sense 3,5 rom now but non of the int2ext is working. D2sd is slow and lagy for me. Any particular sense rom recommended for working int2ext?

hensemod, wildchild, alaadragon fire are sense 2.1 based roms that support int2ext scripts... supreme mod also supports it but it is little over themed, you can use it if that wont bother you..

I never tried any sense rom with int2ext. It'd be great if you post a new thread asking. I don't wanna give you any wrong suggestion.
Why don't you go for link2sd? Even I switched back to it gives me more freedom.

[Q] Recommended ROM

Im currently using cyanogenmod 6.1.1 on my touch, which is amazing...but i really like to use sense based roms.. i tried CR_Mod_2.13.531.1 OTA and did darktremor app2sd but i only got 60mb free, but the phone was very laggy ..i dont need ant t-mobile apps, coz i use an unlocked phone..which sense rom is recommended among these
-GratiousSlide 1.0
-3rdSense 0.60
-CR_Mod_2.13.531.1 OTA
-HaXspresso 2.2.1..
i would like to use the rom with more free internal memory..
Please advice me on this..thank u..
It sounds like you have a slow or low quality sd card if for any reason darktremor lagged your phone. The best option for you would be to S-OFF your phone and follow the instructions for creating custom MTD partitions. There is step by step instructions in a thread by HebrewToYou in the dev section.

you should try the rc1 cm7 from cyanogenmod...haxspresso and cr mod have only about 70.mb of internal memory for your apps, gratiouslide i dont know and 3rd sense i heard its good.
Ive been using the GratiousSlide rom with apps2sd and it works like a charm. Ive got a lot of apps the need to be on the internal memory and only have about 30mb left on it and it still runs perfect. Definitely one of the best roms out there. Only thing ive noticed that doesnt work is the keyboard light, and Swype needs to be reinstalled. Id recommend it to anyone.
Try LegendtoSlide.
Its stable, has HTC Sense and is pretty decent in the speed department.

GinbgerBread roms not quite there yet?

I have been testing a few gb roms including RCM and reflex. I have found them to be slower when compared to Leedrioid 2.4.1. Are the latest gb roms not quite there yet due to there currently been no official 2.3 ruu?
I have been using InsertCoin since the beginning and it has just gone from strength to strength. Very very fast and faster than Leedroid v2.4.1
Thats one I havent tried, will give it a go.
I'm using LeeDroid 3.0.5 GB and it's freakin' awesome! Built-in task management is such a welcome addition, works really well IMO...
I also used LeeDrOiD v3.0.5. It is really nice. But now i use Redux v1.2 (it is an aosp-gingerbread v2.3.3). It feels so much faster and smoother. Seems to be more stable, too. It does not have Sense, nevertheless i like it much more than leedroid after a short time for adjustment.

insertcoin now is nice for me. v20 that is. tried v17 a week ago maybe and it was laggy at times. v20 is nice
Both Insertcoin and Reflex S roms are very fast and responsive roms. By the way, if you feel comfortable changing your partition tables (really easy with android flasher) You should give the CM7 partion table roms a go, they're even faster than the normal A2SD versions. (Insertcoin and RCMix have this for instance)
Hi, sorry for noob question.. hv never rooted/installed custom roms, but will do that very soon.
What are ext3 and ext4 partitions used for? in tutorials of the dev of InsertCoin seen that only ext4 created (so, why I am confused) & assume ext1 and 2 assigned already to the system, right?

NB: Everything i say here i say under correction.
Ext 3 & 4 are extended file systems, these are needed by ROMS which use A2SD (Apps2SD). These file systems mimic "internal storage" space as when you use a custom ROM that uses A2SD all the apps you install will install to the Ext 3/4 partition. Normally if a ROM says its needs Ext 4 the you need to partition your SD card with a Ext 4 partition or the ROM wont work. Whereas if the sat Ext2/3/4 then you can use either.
Hope this helped

I have decided to go back to 2.4.1, so much faster than the current gb roms, will look at gb when the official software is out and the developers can tweak it.
I tried Redux and Oxygen. Fast gb roms imo.
i like Reflex S v1.9.9
But now Videocamera is still a problem
I had MMS issues on GB roms, despite they are quite fast, they feel too buggy to me, that's why I reflashed a stock Froyo rom (that is bug free)

Hi. Could you pass on a little information to me please? I have Leedroid 2.4.1(Froyo). I'm using A2SD with an ext3 partition. Not using Sense.
Would like to give a Gingerbread ROM a try.
Is there anything I need to do special/different when putting a GB based ROM onto my Desire as oppose to when I've upgraded a Froyo based one?
I'm thinking Radio updates or Nandroid backup or....?
Thanks
miui rocks and now its 2.3.4 check it out miuiandroid .com
Yes i can confirm that, im using cmiui. Its the best miui version. I think its the best because i cant find bugs ^^

CM7/CM9/MIUI stable enough?????

Even though I been a long time user here, and even work in a phone shop myself, I have yet to use CM7/CM9 or MIUI on my wildfire S, I have used the mentioned roms on other phones, how to they run on our wildfire S's????
I like to use Link2SD too, and mostly use my phone for browsing (a lot), dont play many games, and text a lot, and the odd picture
so with the above bits in mind, I want something what is pretty stable, with virtually everything working, Im htcdev bootloader unlocked, and wildfire S locked to 3UK network..
Who can advise what of the three roms works best, and if so, what versions???
THANKS!!!
CM9 is in development, CM7 is stable for some, not all, you'll have to check that for yourself, and MIUI, I've yet to try, as it looks like crap to me (for something that claims minimalism, it sure is gaudy). If you're bootloader unlocked, root your phone, then flash a custom ROM (I'd recommend m1ndh4x8r's ROM or Hensemod, as they're the most stable and most well-polished of the bunch). I'm currently running on m1ndh4x8r with a custom kernel (DUST Kernel 9.0), because of a touchscreen bug.
im using the 03122012 cm7.2 from alquez and i can say its stable though i only use the phone for calling/messaging/games and internet. i havent tried gps yet. now im on cm9 04282012 from ben/modponk and i liked it a lot although got problems for me like (video recording not working, deep sleep battery drain problem and sometimes the sim card reboot thing).
ive tried several times flashing mindhaxer/einsteinsfrat's roms but i always ended up stucked up on the white htc boot screen.i think the problem is my phone not compatible with his roms at all
It's probably because you haven't partitioned your SD card (I'm guessing you haven't, since those ROMs wouldn't work for me either, till I partitioned my card with Clockworkmod Recovery (had to add a swap partition)).

and try this kernel if you want more governers , ill atach the file below.

Since I bought my WFS, using every ROM in the development thread... so many times I have to comeback to unofficial CM 7.2(Gingerbread 2.3.7).
This is the best ROM (in own opinion) currently. If video recording is so important to you, use Gingerbread 2.35, u have plenty of flavors in the development forum. Use them and select the one mean stable to you.
MIUI is something look very good but not in it's operation though
But really again you will find CM 7.2 is best out of them.
Sent from my Wildfire S using Tapatalk 2
Currently the most stable non-sense ROM is CM7. CM9 is on it's way and is close to completion (kind of). If you want a sense ROM then quite a lot of them are pretty stable.
what i really hate about cm7 is the adwlauncher. its so horribly glitchy slow. why would they keep that in cm7? cant they just change it to another one? wouldve been sweet if the default launcher that came from this roms development from dev isnt adw. launcherpro fits well on cm7. adwlauncherEX looks nice but from time to time, when you have widgets on homescreen, it tends to get glitchy.
@johnnyspitz
i did partition my sd card with 1024 mb ext3 and 0 swap using cwm recovery. wiped all the caches and still got the same problem. is it because i put 0 swap on it? how much space did put on the partition and swap? thanks
CM9 is on a good way now, but still with some bugs (battery life, camera, force closing apps), current best non sense i've tried was cm7...its not as good as sense roms (for me). When CM9 will be released for our phones, i'll totally go for it!
CM7
I have trid all of theme i think the more ended and working is CM7.CM9 work not really good , and MIUI don't have live wallpaper and other think it is not finished .
ending : CM7 is the best

Just add swap, any amount will do if it's above 0. That's what worked for me
Check modpunk's CM9. It's an alpha release but looking really good.
Using it already, battery usage is the main problem now. But he said he fixed it already, we're waiting for his latest build which he promised to release today or tom.

[Q] So I rooted my phone, now what?

Hello again guys,
I sucessfully rooted my phone but now I have a problem. I have read through alot of forums and sites and I guess the next logical step is to get a new rom and kernel. Now I have done alot of reading about all this but I'm getting quite confused between the pair. From my understanding the kernel controls all the complex stuff like making your phone run faster/slower and increasing/decreasing battery life.... I'm stumped at what a rom is,it's like, the operating system but custom ones are more streamlined?
So what I'm asking for is a little information and some suggestions of what I should put onto my phone, I read something about a smartassv2 which is supposed to keep the phone more balanced, now im sure if it is a kernel or a governor?
Any help would be apprciated.
Have you put cwm or different recovery on your phone yet. Also do you have the CDMA or gsm version

Yeah, the utility I used to root it also installed cwm, I checked it out and did a backup which should be on my SD card now.
beleive it's gsm, it has a sim card and is on T-mobile.
Ive just installed link2sd and partitioned my sd card, was able to move over a game that I couldnt originally get over to the sd card, saving a bit of space.
Also with link2sd I was able to delete preinstalled bloat like twitter, friendstream, news, weather, stocks, etc.
So far a good day

smartassv2 is governer you can use cfq scheduler with it.
about suggestions:
after rooting you have two options:
use cyanogenmod roms:
cm9.1/cm10
(original modpunk cm9.1 ,speed droid,jelly king,miui etc)
use stock sense roms:
(wildchild etc,sense 3.5 etc)
these all are main roms after there are many variations like pacman rom, aokp build cm9 but they are not much stable at this time so.

Personal oppinion
When I rooted my wildfire s I was exactly like you. I started wondering what I should do or where I could find it.
After testing a few roms I will tell you what worked for me: Test different roms till you find the one that suits you.
Anyway, I'll tell you my advice:
- WildJOY joyOS First rom I tested. No bugs found.
- Modpunk's CM10 As far as I've read the rom every one uses as the base for their own ones.
- JellyKing This is the one I'm using right now. Active development and really smooth.
Jelly King V2.0
I flashed my phone with Jelly King V2.0 4 days back. Its working very smoothly.
You get 69 MB of internal space to install things.
Panorma mode in camera etc. Try it. you'll love it.

Kantry 123 made amazing job i really appreciate his hard work :good:
I don't find it that laggy as you say. Maybe it's because i don't spect too much from my little device. If i were you i'd try the kernel to test if it goes smoother or not.

(ISO) rom recommendations - smooth, stable, memory

Hi,
I'm currently in search of a rom for my girlfriend. I'm anything but up to date with wildfire roms, that's why I'm asking for your recommendations
I'm looking for a stable and smooth user experience, which also offers some more space for apps. Ofc I won't expect any miracles, but she really loves her small device
Are ics roms in general more laggy?
Thanks for anything you can tell me

Yeah I think I will stick with that. On my previous device it was possible to install either another partition table (hboot) or use a2sd to get more space for apps.
there is probably something similar for buzz, isn't it? Gonna read some more topics as soon as I start with this device..
Anyway, thanks for your answers!
For that, you have to partition your sdcard to ext3 and fat32 using CWM
While formatting, your data on sdcard will be cleared so keep a backup of that.
After partition, you can flash a script or install an app like link2sd to move apps to ext3
Why not ext4?
I chose ext4 for my mom's wildfire and it seems to run okay..... so far
I followed a good guide from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2125513
It said to chose ext4...
Why would you recommend ext3?
RemPuzzle ROM is the most stable and buttery smooth !! :good:
CM7 is the most stable. I'm currently using CM9.1, has a few bugs but it runs pretty smooth.
