htc desire rooted but problematic - Desire General

ok guys i need some help on this one.
i am new to the whole htc desire. i have a galaxy tab and galaxy s. none of which are this difficult.
my issue is with this security (which i assume is the problem)
i installed UNrevoked yesterday on my new htc desire and it worked fine.
then i installed titanium backup but it had a problem so i hit the "problem" button ot TB and that now works.
when i try to use any other program that needs to do any modifications to the system the desire reboots for example if i use busybox installer it would start and it would gain superuser permission but it would reboot later on
if i try to use the program adfree the minute it updates the hosts file (does its work) the desire reboots.
i assume (and i am new to this desire stuff) it maybe a security issue?
please help!

Don't think so, either do a factory rest or flash a custom rom.

thanks but very vague answer though.
anyhow i'd flash a custom rom however i dont want to lose arabic support as i use arabic all the time ...

I'm not 100% sure on your problem but try this.
Download Clockwork Recovery from the market (root only) and then scroll to the bottom of the menu there and select 'Fix Permissions'.
I did this with mine and never had same problem as you.

problem resolved.
used alpharev.
thanks!

[Q] Uninstall Friend Stream

I just rooted my Froyo Desire and I want to uninstall Facebook, Friend Stream, Twitter.
I am using Titanium Backup to uninstall.
But everytime I uninstall, the phone reboots.
Any suggestions?
You can't uninstall them that way, you need a custom ROM with them removed (but you might go into a constant sync loop if you do on a Sense-based ROM)
ok, thanks for the reply.
would you be able to direct me to the best custom rom out there?
i'm new to this stuff, i think i flukely rooted my desire (SLCD). lol
No one can say what the 'best' ROM is as it's subjective. I don't even use a custom ROM any more as I've no issues with the stock ROM.
If you want to try one without Sense then look at OpenDesire - it's compiled from source specifically for the Desire as opposed to being ported from the Nexus One
ok cool, thanks will try that see how it goes
I managed to uninstall them just by using root explorer (with the s-off mod of course) and they have gone and no boot loop problems etc.
Phil
Yes if you have made the s-off hack you should be able to uninstall using titanium. But some stock apps are used for sync as mentioned.
OK, i see what the problem now is, I have S-ON.
I just reflashed (or whatever its called) and this time turned S-OFF in the Unrevoked settings, but when i boot the phone to see if it has changed, it is still on S-ON!!! What Gives?????

You need to use alpharev for S-OFF. It is quite safe and fast.
Have a look here

Ok thanks. I will try it and let you know what happens.
If you flash a custom Rom, you can delete some apk files from the Rom zip file, and some afterwards using adb. Not everything is save, some things are best removed using one method. You should check on the developers forum or site. The sense-based Leedroid Rom has a good documentation concerning this.

You can just remove them using adb whilst in Recovery.

Youtube installation unsuccessful

I have uninstalled it with Titanium Backup (Youtube.apk disappears from /system/app), rebooted, tried to install but has gotten "Installation unsuccessful" instead. Upon rebooting Youtube.apk magically re-appears.
ROM: OpenDesire
same here, running miui.
It's the same issue that affected Maps, etc. Updated fine on RCMixHD btw, installed over the top of the stock app via the Market

Did anybody try "adb push" the app?

Okay I wiped my phone and installed DeFroST instead. Had not used DeFroST for a long time.
and now it works?
Adb is kinda long try this first see if it works, replace the YouTube apk in gapps(system/app directory) with the new YouTube apk and flash gapps(with the new YouTube).

just S-OFF your device, which enables REAL write access to your system and you can uninstall. with S-ON, you cannot write to /system and other partitions - the SPL denies that.
Use titanium backup to delete it, reboot your phone then install it.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Ganjdroid, he already did that and it didn't work for him :/
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
With Titanium backup it only works for S-OFF phones for all other :
reboot to recovery
mount system partition
plug in to usb
open terminal and wirte:
adb shell
push C://Downloads/Youtube.apk /system/app/
or use Android Commander Instead.

[Q] How to flash the ROM?

Hi is there somewhere a guide how to flash the ROMs and any list of available ROMs?
Can you advice, recommend some particular ROM?
Hi first of all you have created 2 new threads when you could of created one and asked both questions.
Im assuming that you are rooted looking at your other thread. You need to make sure you have clockworkmod recovery installed, if you haven't the easiest way to do get it is to download ROM manager from the market. Load the app and at the top it will say flash clockworkmod recovery. click on this and this will install CWM recovery for you.
ROM manager is a great tool that les you down load and install ROM's from within the app.
The ROM's available in ROM manager are as follows I'm not going to go in to to much detail, I recommend you have a good read through the dev section about the different ROM's that are available.
CyanogenMod: Is the one of the most popular ROM's available, it is pretty much stock with a few awesome tweaks.
Virtuous: A custom Sense based ROM
MIUI: a really unique ROM that looks more like the iPhone UI, some people love it offers a lot of eye candy and some cool built in features.
There are lots of other ROM's available in the DEV section.
You can download the above ROM's directly from ROM manager and install them really easily just by following the pop ups. Or you can download ROM's from the the DEV forum and place on to your sdcard. Here is a step by step guide.
1, Download your chosen ROM to your sdcard.
2, Reboot in to recovery, select this option from within ROM manager.
3, You will now be in CWM recovery, select back up and restore then backup, this is really important and you should do this before flashing anything. it will enable you to restore you phone to a previous problem free state if you ever mess anything up.
4, Select wipe data, you should do this whenever flashing different types of rom, for example if you are running MIUI and want to switch to virtuous you need to wipe data.
5, Wipe cache, all ways do this regardless of what you are flashing.
6, Head to advance, and wipe dalvik cache.
7, Now time to flash your ROM,
8, Select install zip from sdcard.
9, choose zip from sdcard
10, Navigate to your ROM and select it for flashing.
11, Once complete reboot your phone and you should be running a custom ROM.
It will be worth investing in an app such as titanium backup, this will allow you to back up all your apps and settings, when you install a ROM for the first time and you have to wipe data you will lose everything you have installed and all you settings, Titanium Backup will allow you to restore your apps and setting once you installed a new ROM.
If you want a recommendation for a ROM my personal preference is CM7.
With regards to your other thread, don't worry to much about not having a back up there are guides available for unrooting and going back to stock if you ever need to, not that you will want to after trying custom ROM's
Hope this helps, good luck
Thanks a lot for your reply ,this is exactly what I was looking for now a little calm down

Yes i have it .
Ok while I wanted to update superuser I've received notification: file package was not correctly signed.
So I think I don't have maybe a root, but I was proceeding exactly according to the guide...
How can I solve it in the best way?:/
Ok it seems that problem with flashing clockworkmod recovery solved by itself, I've flashed it already but still I am curious what about problem mentioned above?

I have just done it, it works pretty well.
Superuser still the same problem. However maybe I forget to mention it but I've already installed it. It was installed automatically during I was rooting my phone using adb command. Now I just wanted to update it and the problem appears as I described in one of the previous posts herein.
Maybe it is not necessary to update it but I am curious why this problem occurs.

You have helped already sufficiently a lot.
Now I ma trying to flash the ROM and as the first one I've chosen CM7
Before I'll do it pls confirm if I'm thinking the right way.
First I'll do backup all my apps (also titanium, Superuser and Rom manager need it? I suppose Yes, or somehow they backup automatically?) Maybe better question is what should be backuped, I am asking because on the list in titanium there are also apps like clock which are delivered with the software. You know after flashing a new Rom and restoring all aps I'd like to avoid overwriting them by the backuped ones.
The second is after apps backup I need to move created file from my phone into my PC,right? The same after system backup by clockworkmod recovery?

With titanium you just want to back up user apps and data (apps you have downloaded and installed). You can choose to back up system apps but you don't want to restore them after flashing the new rom.
You don't need to copy back up files to your pc, your memory card will not get wiped during the flashing process.

Keep in mind that gapp.zip that you get from gapp page or rom manager or somewhere else is meant for your rom version( ie android base version) some are for froyo, some for gingerbread, and some for 2.xxx. if they are not compatable, they can cause fc.
Also do a dalvic wipe before you install zip, and do a permission fix before you boot, in case you hsve installed gapp.

Desire HD Backup for Warranty

Hi,
my friend has an HTC Desire HD, which is on a stock 2.3.3 ROM, unrooted, AT&T Branded, probably Net-Locked (not SIM-Locked though) and S-ON. Now the VOL-UP button is mechanically broken, which is covered by her insurance.
I want to back up all her data, apps and app settings. I will probably flash a RUU before giving it to the repair people to delete all personal information. How do I perform the backup?
I usually use Titanium Backup for that but it requires root, which requires a downgrade, which deletes all the apps. Basically I want a temproot for 2.3.3, but I couldn't find anything like that. Visionary+ seems to work on 2.2 only.
Thanks for any advice or information.
I know my way through a terminal and have access to Windows, Linux and OS-X. Bonus if I only require the Linux machine though.

Hi, I'm not that technical so here's what I would do. Root the phone, make a backup of original ROM using ROM Manager. Do what you want, save it and then flash back to the original ROM.

But as I understand it, in order to root it I have to downgrade it to 2.2 first and the downgrade deletes all my apps and settings. Is that not correct?
