I have uninstalled it with Titanium Backup (Youtube.apk disappears from /system/app), rebooted, tried to install but has gotten "Installation unsuccessful" instead. Upon rebooting Youtube.apk magically re-appears.
ROM: OpenDesire
same here, running miui.
It's the same issue that affected Maps, etc. Updated fine on RCMixHD btw, installed over the top of the stock app via the Market

Installing over stock app doesn't work on OpenDesire, neither does uninstalling and rebooting.

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Okay I wiped my phone and installed DeFroST instead. Had not used DeFroST for a long time.
and now it works?
Adb is kinda long try this first see if it works, replace the YouTube apk in gapps(system/app directory) with the new YouTube apk and flash gapps(with the new YouTube).

just S-OFF your device, which enables REAL write access to your system and you can uninstall. with S-ON, you cannot write to /system and other partitions - the SPL denies that.
Use titanium backup to delete it, reboot your phone then install it.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Ganjdroid, he already did that and it didn't work for him :/
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
With Titanium backup it only works for S-OFF phones for all other :
reboot to recovery
mount system partition
plug in to usb
open terminal and wirte:
adb shell
push C://Downloads/Youtube.apk /system/app/
or use Android Commander Instead.

Uninstall then reinstall from the market, this will then work for future updates as well.
I'm on LeeDroid V1.6 and I'm getting the same error.
I imagine that it's something to do with Maps already being pre-installed to /data.

1-can't update (installation failed)
2-can't uninstall Google Maps
3-I haven't any pc linux-based
Can someone help us, please?

Guys,
You don't need Linux at all!
If you're running LeeDroid, you should simply be able to uninstall normally. I use a free app called Quick Uninstaller by BandBTool, that you can get from from Market.
Then just reinstall the apps from Market and you get the updated versions.
Failing that, you need to use adb - if you're not familiar with it, you need to search but basically you need to boot into recovery, then use adb to mount /system and remove the .apk files that relate to the apps you can't update.

Ok, well I'm still on 1.5 but assuming he's kept maps in the same place, you need to:
cd /data/app
rm Google_maps.apk
edit: Scratch that, he's changed it:-
Still in /data/app but...
rm Maps.apk
can't cd to /data/app

Forgot to mention, you have to mount /data first
i mounted /data before ...
Hmmm....
Then I don't see how it can be done through adb...
Try uninstalling through this then
I have the answer 4 our Question ...
It's the simple way ...
Unistall the app over the app manager an install new from market ...
But Thanks for the help
I tried to uninstall GMaps trought Quick Uninstaller (I tried all 3 apps from the suggested developer...) but it's impossible.
I don't know why but the message was "uninstallation failed"...this happens just to me???

How do I find out what build I'm using? And did you update flash recently?
Go to Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All and it will be listed there - click on it and it'll say the build...
I use an MCR r8-based ROM so it has the latest Flash release in it already, I can provide a link to the APK if you need it (or just Google 'Flash 10.1.92.8 APK' and you'll find links)
IT'S not letting me install it. It says "application not installed" , don't know what's going on here.
What version are you on at the moment? I also take it you're using a file manager to install it and have 'unknown sources' ticked to allow non-Market apps
10.1.72.7 Yh I'm using astro file manager and unknown sources is checked. I select upgrade and it starts installing then stops and says application not installed.
Anyone know why its not installing?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I had the same issue with MCR6, and in order to update Flash I had to delete it from /system via recovery. Once this was done, I could reinstall again.
I think it is probably because Flash is installed /system, and you can only update /system apps via the Market. Note, this is a theory, not a fact, but I notice that later MCR builds have Flash installed in /data.
Regards,
Dave
Ok thanks Dave, how do I remove an app using recovery? And how come flash isn't in the market yet?

I believe Flash is in the Market, but unless your build.prop indicates you are using a Nexus One, it won't appear.
Vis-a-vis deleting whilst in recovery, I should have been more explicit in that you use ADB whilst in recovery to delete the APK from /system.

Dave
So I rooted and flashed my phone with a pre-rooted version of stock 2.2, installed a power saving mod and enabled move any app to sd (adb), installed loads of apps and it worked fine.
I've just gone to install a new app from the market and I can't get it to work. Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks
What app? Did you try clearing market cache and data? Tried rebooting your phone? If not, read and search first, post later.

I had the same problem, first time it say installation unsuccessful, second time it is successful..I think is a problem with the market, google doing some update on it..
I searched and tried some suggestions there. Formatting SD etc. Reflashed the rom and it seems fine now.

Hello pplz. I installed CM 7 mod over the weekend. All went well except for the gapps. I downloaded the gapps from the provided link and flashed it using recovery. But gmail, market and goggle maps failed to install. And they were also not be shown in the market. I searched the net and found the apks of all. Market and maps were installed successfully and gmail gives the error of application not installed.
Then using root explorer I copy the gmail.apk to the system folder n still smell problem.
Please tell me a way to install Gmail
Apk.
Thanks

Were you using a different ROM before? And if so did you wipe before installing CM7?

yes did both the things
Check the permissions and you need to be s-off if using root explorer.

That is strange then. Personally, I successfully installed CM7 and then (during the same session within recovery) Google apps and had no problems whatsoever.
What kind of error message did you receive when flashing Google apps in recovery? Did you confirm that checksum of the Google appps file was correct?
And are you sure you downloaded this file:
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
And no some other by a mistake?
Hi XDA, long time lurker, first time poster.
So I rooted my droid incredible yesterday evening. Everything was dandy- I installed CM7. However, this afternoon i stopped being able to use the market application - it would require a force close - both the market app and downloader. I decided to wipe everything, reinstall, and re root and do it again. I installed CM7 again, market wouldn't work. I then did a full wipe, factory reset, cache reset, davlik reset, and installed the newest nightly build of CM7. Still couldn't download from app marketplace.
I now just installed SkyRaider 4.0. I still can't download from the google marketplace on my phone. I can, however, install from the amazon app store, and when I use google's web install interface I can install the google marketplace apps from there (this also works for appbrain).
--I can use the google marketplace and appbrain marketplace on my computer, just not on my phone --
Clearly, the default android marketplace app doesn't work on my phone (and consequently appbrain as it goes through that).
How can I fix this?
Thanks,
Brian

Reboot into Clockwork recovery, there is a fix permissions options. If I remember right it is in the advanced section. Run it. It will not hurt anything it will just run script that will run through the files and fix the permission settings on them.
Fixing permissions didn't eliminate the problem.
Did you download the Google apps zip with cm and flash it too? You never mentioned that part. Might be the problem
