[Q] Unlocked Defy, insert AT&T SIM, get SMS errors back - Defy General

Just got my unlock today, so put my AT&T SIM in, booted up the defy, and now I am getting error messages back (as SMS messages) from +1121611611 indicating I need to use a valid 10 digit number.
From what I assume, it's a T-Mobile app sending a message to their own network for whatever reason, so AT&T can't deliver it. Well not only have I gotten at least 12 of these in the last couple of hours, but I get to pay for them on my AT&T TXT plan. Nice.
Any idea what might be in the OEM (though rooted) Defy ROM that's sending out garbage to the TMO network? I am doing a Clockwork backup, and plan to attempt a motorola blur removal, and whatever else you smart and helpful people can suggest.
Your input is very much appreciated!
PS - I should mention I have no trouble sending or receiving REAL mms/sms messages. These errors come from out of the blue, with no action on my part.

I had received a similar message from Vodafone Romania while I was there.
Unfortunately, I wasnt able to load a custom/blurless rom to see if that fixed it at the time.

Just more information - My detail on AT&T shows that my phone is "sending an SMS" to number 1122. That's the reason for the error, so now I need to figure out what in the Defy sends sms to 1122.
Hmmm.

Once backup is done flash 2.34 blurless rom from higgsy guide. Then flas the correct radio from other guides here. Hopefully shud be good by then.

Would anyone know what's sending the SMS messages?

VisualVoiceMail.apk sends SMS every 5 minutes. You may disable it by running "pm disable com.motorola.android.vvm" under root prompt.

Do you know why it does that?
Can we just delete that apk or is it needed by the system? Is it T-Mo bloatware?
Thanks!

Sweet, going to try that later. Thank you!
EDIT: I THINK IT'S SOLVED!!! I am at work, so put my AT&T SIM in there after removing VisualVoiceMail.apk using Root Uninstaller. No SMS error messages so far. Thanks again Inlined!
Further Edit: Worked great on my unlocked Vibrant as well. I think I need to thank Inlined again

What unlock service did you use for the defy, I am trying to get one unlocked

I can tell you right now that it's not limited to just the defy. I have a Razr from when I was on TMobile before, got it unlocked and used it as a backup phone on ATT. I always got the same messages on bootup. Came back to TMobile, put my sim in the phone...no more. I can only assume its some type of internal registration that happening.

Unwanted Text Messages Still Coming w/ WM6 (Shipping Version)?

I deleted all of the snapin software while I was running the beta version to stop the 4-5 SMS messages being sent daily but still received a text message everytime I had to reboot or turn off and on my phone.
It would be from the #: 1121611611
The Message would say:
453 Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code. 06050415CC15CC60D8
My crude fix was keeping my phone charged to avoid having to restart the phone.
Last night I flashed in the leaked shipping version of WM6. Much to my dismay I was still receiving these SMS messages upon every reboot of my phone.
Anyone got an idea about what's going on?
huh...
I just flashed the new leaked rom last night and haven't had any int. messages sent...I even called t-mobile and the last international message that was sent was the 21st...the last time I hard reset my phone with the beta on it. Have you checked to see if it is a program on your phone doing it?
The only text messages I've recieved are ones intended for me...
Unwanted Text Messages And How To Stop Them
Go back uninstall the new Official T-Mobile wm6 ROM and reinstall the T-Mobile clean WM5 Rom that was on your Dash/Excalibur, when you purchase it. Next, install back the new wm6 official ROM and the unwanted text messages will stop! Never ever install the new official wm6 ROM over the old beta wm6 ROM. If you do you will have problems! Let me know how things work out!
i too have receive these unwanted text messages... but i update from wm5 would i have to restart the whole process over?
Did you remove (not rename) the My5 startup link?
Ka.
no i dont believe so.. nor do i know what that is lol
Check in the /Windows/Startup directory and with Total Commander (not the standard File Explorer) check you have or not anything else than "Voice Command" or "WifiInit".
Ka.
i see my5msgcenter voice command and wifiinit in teh startup folder? what do i do with them?

Guys are your Dash/Excalibur sim unlock, I want to get to the bottom of this text message issue!
I think it's more related to some app re-installed or not correctly disabled.
Anyway, to answer your question, myne is unlocked and still waiting for my online "balance" to get updated and check my SMS usage.

Mine is sim unlocked. Gonna try out downgrading back to wm5. That was my last resort. You just tipped the scale. I'll reply back with findings.
I'm having the same issue. I'm coming from the WM6 Beta build.
I can't seem to downgrade to previous versions of the Dash or the Excalibur ROMs. I keep getting an Error 260 message.

I changed the lnk extenstions to lnk2. I rebooted and the problem has gone away - no more unwanted emails.
Now when do you think the non-T-Mobile branded ROM will get leaked? ;-)
Ok, I did a quick search on Google for 1121611611 and guess what? That error message (or SMS with an error) is quite common. Some people receive it when they try to send a SMS or reply to a SMS.
Found ref to TMobile, either when somebody goes to TMobile but he's/she's not fully in their database and not recognised as such or when is replying to a TMobile subscriber...
Anyway, as I'm a bit asleep now, I would suggest to do a quick Google on 1121611611 and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Really happy about that, started to feel a bit scared but since I am a complete parano, checked 20 times for any strange process or startup lnk before putting my SIM in, just that couldn't get my online statement to show and couldn't see if any unwanted SMS had been sent, altough was sure didn't receive any from "unknown numbers".
The unbranded (pure HTC) should be coming soon, I hope, knowing that the branded is scheduled for 4.5 (4th of May, for the US people) I guess the unbranded can't be scheduled much later than that.

[Q] Receiving 9114 texts? Hmmm?

So, since I flashed to a new ROM I have be getting a copious amount (about 40 a day) of texts from a 9114 number.
I'm assuming this has something to do with Sprint trying to send information to one of it's Stock Apps, because while using the Sprint Lovers ROM for a few days I didn't receive them at all.
Anybody know how to fix this problem, perhaps which stock Sprint Apps I need to install?
Also, I'm using CM7.
That is really strange
is that just recent?
where you located at?
You shouldn't have to install any apps. I don't know of anything that communicates over text message. If possible, backup your stuff and do a fresh install of cm7 because that shouldn't be happening.
Make sure you haven't accidentally signed up from one of those scam apps for a service that charges you a dollar a text message. What are the contents of the messages?

Here's what I found on Sprint Users regarding the 9114 text messages:
Hate to bring this back from the dead but I actually know why this is happening. It's a problem with Sprint Mobile email application that comes with most phones. It's actually quite helpful since it will allow you to get push email (ie instant email or blackberry like email) straight to your phone. The problem is if you uninstall the program or stop using the program without resetting your email information on the server, it will keep sending the email (push) notification in the form of the 9114 text message gibberish. I have the Touch and found out through trial an error and noticing that the texts come at the same time I kept getting emails.
A more decisive fix instead of just blocking the text message sender is by using the Sprint email program and re-enter your infomation for your previous email account. If you don't remember just start sending emails to your various email accounts (allow a few minutes between each) and wait to see if you get a text from 9114. When you find out which email it is, you should register with that same account again.
Once you have done that select re-register under the menu. Don't enter anything after that. It will clear your info off the server and now you can uninstall the email program AND you will stop getting the texts.
So in short, don't blame the gmail or yahoo, it's not their fault. The program is really to blame although it's a symptom of push email which is nice to have for free.
Thanks for the assistance guys, but I've since moved over to Sprint Lovers and it has stopped, very confusing. It appears whenever I use any ROMs that don't have the Stock Sprint Apps I receive the text message. Which is a really agitating problem considering I much enjoy AOSP roms in comparison...
I don't see anything that looks like Sprint Mail here...I was hoping once I switched over I simply just had to finagle that app and I coud move on 9114 free...hmmmm...
I'm sure they are referring to the stock "Email" app; probably isn't named "Sprint Mail". I think they are saying delete your email accounts in your Sense rom, flash your AOSP ROM, and then set up your email accounts again. I haven't experienced this 9114 issue and I've went from Sense to AOSP.....kinda strange.

I haven't used the stock e-mail app though, I pretty much rooted and went to a different ROM the first day I got the phone. (I was coming from an Inspire 4G...which I miss terribly </3 )
Could it possibly have something to do with the Sprint Zone? Perhaps a "Welcome to Sprint, please set up your..." type of situation?

I'm wondering if it could be caused by the person who had the phone number before I did...if so...I feel like I'm proverbially SOL.
I would really love to rock the new Deck ROM too

[Q] I cannot send SMS GSM Orange Network

Since this morning I am unable to send SMS on my UK GSM Orange Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I am able to make and recieve calls, make and recieve MMS and recieve SMS but cannot send SMS.
Where in ICS can you check the SMS Message centre? Ive tried to view it in the *#*#info#*#* and there is a bit which says SMSC, but if I put in the orange message centre number which I believe is +44 797 3100973 and click update, the update fails. There no other settings I can find in Messager app, and the APN's are correct as I can send/recieve MMS and browse the internet etc.
Ive done a reset also, still same problem.
Can anyone help?
Don't hit update. Just type the number in and exit.

call orange and ask them to send you an ORANGE MESSAGE UPDATE (OMU)
Have fun getting it sorted. Will be surprised if they fix it within 3 attempts
Fixed it myself!
Since you cannot (currently) go into messages options and set the message centre number normally, you have to use the info screen and the smsc bit.
However you cannot just put in the orange message centre number ( +447973100973). You have to encode it using the following site http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode and at the bottom left box type: n the message centre number in smsc then press convert. It will then give you on the right a Hexadecimal PDU Message. Copy the number excluding the letters and do not include anything after the 11. Ie for orange on the Samsung galaxy nexus the smsc is
0791449737019037. Click update and wait a few seconds then exit and it should work!
What a faff. Ics really needs the message centre number option in the messaging app.
Hope this helps someone.

I had this issue but fixed it by inserting a SIM from another network(Orange), waiting for it to set up and then swapping back to my Three SIM.

Didn't work for me On Orange uk. Been having this problem for over a week it's really bugging me. Going to ring orange tomorrow. Probably won't be much help though. Last time i rang and they asked what phone i was using so i told them Galaxy Nexus and their system didn't recognise it
I have this problem and have not been able to find a solution. I'm in the US using SpotMobile. Their smsc is +16104680009, which converts to 07916101640800F911. When I enter this and press update, it gets saved (without the two ending 1s) and the messaging app doesn't give an error when sending a message (and I get charged for it -_-), but the recipient never receives the message.
I've also tried @rbiter's solution, but it doesn't work. The smsc doesn't get saved and I get an error when sending messages.
Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Take off the last "11". It should be 16 digits, not 18.
Sneaky Way of Fixing this
I too had the same problem. Out of curiosity, I went to check the Hidden phone settings on my Galaxy Nexus, I love looking at the temperature of the battery, network location and all that good stuff. But apparently ICS is glitchy regarding the SMSC settings. It apparently wipes the SMSC number as soon as you enter the hidden phone settings... To find this I went to a series of steps. The first thing I tried was popping in other SIM cards from my carrier (Telcel GSM in Mexico) All of them seemed to work fine.. And my primary SIM which didn't work on my Galaxy Nexus worked on an old Telcel-Locked phone I had.. so this sent me scrambling.. The next thing I tried was to update the SMSC through the process of encryption provided in an earlier post, and normally.. none of them which worked.. I then thought that the Phone must be keeping an erroneous configuration of my SIM card, so I resetted the phone, deleted my G-Account.. and still it would not work. I then popped another Telcel GSM SIM card in my old Blackberry 8520, went to the SMS settings and it had the SMSC number, which for Telcel Mexico is +5294100001410... I then popped in my primary SIM card which was giving me trouble in my Galaxy Nexus and when I went to the SMS settings in the Blackberry.. the SMSC value was gone.. empty.. So I just typed it in and hit save. Popped the SIM card Back in the Galaxy Nexus.. and It's all good again. Android ICS in the Galaxy Nexus just wipes the SMSC value as soon as you enter the hidden menu and is unable to rewrite it to the SIM card. I had to use the Blackberry to properly configure my SIM card again.. Funny, I thought I would never use the Blackberry for anything away.. I got to use some of the junk I keep around..

It gets saved without the last "11" anyway, so it doesn't make a difference.
It's looking like putting the SIM card in another phone and changing the SMSC might be the only way. Too bad I don't have any old phones that take SIM cards

Did Orange send out any updates to you? They refused to for me for 24 hours as my number only just got transferred from Virgin.
Edit: Turns out it was just a coincidence that my smsc got deleted as the number porting actually failed (I can receive texts and make/receive calls which is a bit odd).
I also ended up ballsing this up when I was looking at the 4636 menus.

[Q] No SMS or MMS after Straight Talk Switch (UPDATE 6/30/14)

I understand this thread may be in the incorrect location, so mods or admins feel free to move it to the correct location.
So yesterday I changed over from AT&T to Straight Talk on the bring your own phone feature.
I used my Galaxy Note 2 (not a clone) Jelly Bean 4.1.2 software. I am able to place and receive phone calls as well as access the internet so far. My MMS is functioning to send pictures, however will not receive them. Also, my SMS does not function for sending or receiving text at all.
I followed the instructions on Straight Talk for setting the APN. When I did that I had no internet or sending of MMS. I found on google some other APN settings which made my internet and sending MMS work.
My current settings are as follows.
Name: straight talk
APN: tfdata
Proxy: not set
Port: 80
MMSC: h t t p : / / mms-tf . net (without spaces)
MMS Proxy: mms3 . tracfone . com (without spaces)
MMS Port: 80
It's only been 24 hours since I switched but I've spent basically that entire time trying different APN's I found online.
I also made a Facebook account and went to the support tab on their facebook. I chatted with a person from tech support, however they were unable to resolve my issue. It was the exact same thing as talking to a tech support member at their 800 number. It was a whole lot of...
"send yourself a text and see if you get it"
Didn't work
"okay turn your phone off and back on again"
okay
"try sending yourself a text and see if you get it"
nope didn't work still
"okay trying deleting your text messages, it's probably full"
okay
"restart the phone and try to send yourself a message"
didn't work again
"Okay make sure your APN settings are exactly as they are on our website"
yep they are
"Okay now try to reboot your phone again and send yourself a message"
Wait a minute...you had me LOOK at my APN settings and since they're okay, we are just going to reboot again? Really?
"Okay we are going to walk you through a factory reset of your phone. You will probably lose any pictures, video or music you had saved on the phone. Let me know when you are ready to go ahead with the process"
Ummmm...CLICK...I hung up...
Except the chat support operator hung up on me when I tried their facebook support. They simply disconnected leaving behind a message saying "to assist you further, we will need to speak to you directly, please call our 800 number blah blah blah". They basically had me do the same thing as the phone operator except they once even had me remove my sim card and put it back in then reboot.
So...I still have no SMS or MMS.
I don't feel like it's going to be an APN setting issue because I tried every APN I could find on google yesterday and today. They all seem to allow me to do the same things and they all seem to restrict SMS. I find this odd because most people with APN problems, the main complaint seems to just be not being able to send/receive MMS only.
I was unable to delete or edit the AT&T APN that was already in the phone. Unfortunately the APN Backup & Restore app will not work for me because my software is version 4.1.2 so I'm feeling trapped here. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Here's my apn guide. Hopefully it might help you...

No my phone isn't rooted.
Yes it's stock
I don't know if it's ever been rooted. I am the second owner of this phone.
Yes I got the phone used.
I'll look at your link. I'm not afraid to keep trying other options right now. My new sim won't be here for another 3 to 5 days. That's way too long to be without sms. I downloaded Voxer and can send text and pictures through its features but not everyone in my contacts has Voxer or wants to get another app just because of me. This has sucked all the way around.
So my new SIM card arrived today. I installed it immediately and placed a call to Straight Talk via a different phone (wifes iPhone) to activate it. I am well finished activating my new SIM and am able to place calls as well as send MMS, yet still cannot receive them nor send/receive SMS yet. It's been a several hours now and nothing. This sucks. I didn't want to wipe my phone completely but I tried it. Back to factory settings and still nothing. In the process of downloading all my apps and putting all my pictures back on my phone now. Blah.
For anyone interested in hearing how this turned out, I sort of have an answer. My SMS and MMS both work now as well as internet.
After putting my new SIM card in and having Straight Talk re-provision my account, then hard resetting my phone, it ended up working after about 5 hours. I kept trying to send SMS off and on during that time and suddenly a message made it to my wifes phone and she was able to reply. So far everyone in my contacts can get messages and reply. It was Straight Talks problem all along.
UPDATE: So I crushed my Note 2 in a machine at work while using the flash light app on it. The sim card and memory card survived. I ordered a new Note 2 unlocked from Amazon. The only difference between the new phone and my old one aside from color, is that mine was not unlocked and this one is.
I put my same sim card from the old phone into the new one. Everything worked again except mms. After going back and forth with ST trying to get a new sim card again, they had me set my apn mms proxy to "mms3 . tracfone . com" without the spaces. After a restart, I was able to send pictures to my wife and get pictures from her. I sent pictures to various contacts all morning and suddenly have a new problem. Now my pictures say they failed and have an exclamation point next to them in my inbox, but my contacts were still getting pictures after that occurred. I did a restart again and now they don't get pictures and I still get the exclamation point. Also I get a pop up that says Error: Network Error Occurred. Any ideas?

Well, I tried that. This time when I sent a picture, I got the swirling circle (loading) to the lower right of the picture I tried to send. It was loading for about 2 or 3 minutes and finally showed that it sent. Everyone was getting my pictures 3 times on their phones before my phone would say it failed. This time, my wife got my picture one time and it shows on my phone that it did send. Thanks for the help.
I think it took a while to send just now because I'm being throttled by Straight Talk.

Thanks again. I wonder why before, with my at&t phone I had to specify the apn type but with this unlocked phone, I didn't? Strange.

I have the AT&T variant note 2 and before the update it defaulted blank but after it plugged in some by itself. I don't know why but who knows.

just a quick update for you...the whole issue where everyone was getting my pictures 3 times...worked itself out. Your suggestion to delete the APN type is what got my pictures to send. Then after a few days it randomly quit sending the picture 3 times and then saying it failed.
Now my phone works great

Glad your phone is fixed!

Question Cannot send MMS using specific PHONE NUMBER

About a month ago, a problem popped up where I have not been able to send MMS messages. Whether it is a picture or multiple recipient text (sent as MMS). I have tried every trouble shooting that there is:
New SIM
Reset Networks
NEW DEVICE
eSIM
The ironic thing is that when T-Mobile issued me a temporary NEW PHONE NUMBER, the problem was resolved. I am not willing to lose my phone number which I have had for 22 years.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried more than one Messages app to see whether you have success. If you haven't installed Google's Messages app, give that one a try.

I have tried several apps. What I am interested in is if there are settings that the phone company assigns to a "phone number" as opposed to a device. I took my sons SIM card and placed into my device and it worked fine.
