Won't enter recovery and can't root - Desire General

Hi, really need help because this phone is making me crazy.
Tried everything I know from reading here but it wasn't enough to fix this
I have a desire that I can't root. When entering unrevoked it will stay in "waiting for reboot" and the phone won't do anything (with background with htc logo)
With down+power if I click the recover, it just reboots and hangs. I have to take the battery to restart.
This is what I've tried so far:
-Created goldcard
- Tried a new rru.exe and PB99IMG.zip updates on the card
He does the updates but the problem is the same
- Tried downgrade using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
It's all the same, no luck rooting and recovery hangs.
This is what I have now:
From phone:
Android
2.2
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
2.6.32.15-gf5a401c....
2.29.405.5

I never tried shell commands because I don't know what to do.
Any help please.

Is the phone working? I mean only Recovery hangs?
Because I have a desire with exact same specifications and rooted it with unrEVOked without any problems.
Are you installed the HBOOT drivers correctly?
Tried an RUU and no luck?
You must be doing something wrong.

Mine was acting like that too. I.did the USB drivers and all that but jnrevoked wasn't finishing. I kept trying like 8 times until unrevoked did the whole thing. Some times it takes a couple of tries

I had before a wildfire that I rooted without a problem.
Anyway I uninstalled everything I had from wildfire and installed everything again (including hboot drivers) but still the same problem

Strange.
Which unrevoked are you using? Try 3.21. It worked for me.

Believe it or not, this is a progress
After a couple of reboots it entered but on the final step it says:
(something like this) "it was a root"
And right after:
Internal Error: Failed to unlock NAND flash"
Tried with hboot 0.93 and with 0.83, both gave the same error.
Uninstalled drivers, everything. Then installed htc sync, uninstalled. Installed again the hboot usb drivers, all the same.
If I click to go to recovery it reboots.

[Q] Unrevoked3 failing on HTC desire

hi there
I got my SLCD desire a few weeks ago and did the HTC upgrade to android 2.2.
Later I discovered that, with this upgrade, the rooting process is quite difficult.
Yesterday I found this thread to downgrade Android 2.2 to 2.1 (which I did and which seems to have worked perfectly).
Now I try to install the ClockworkMod with Unrevoked 3.1 to get root access.
I use win7 x64. Unrevoked3 gets stuck at "pushing recovery image".
It's been like that for half an hour without any change...
I installed the modified hboot driver and there are no devices without working drivers in the "device manager".
Is this a windows specific problem and it will work if I use linux?
Or did I do something wrong?
thanks for helping
sorry I'm a new member I cannot post the link to the "Downgrade froyo to stock 2.1", it tells me new members cannot post outside links...

How many times have you tried to run Unrevoked?
dunno, about 10 times
most times it failed after 5-40 sec with "failed to push recovery image. terminating...".
And now is the third time that it is pushing and pushing... last two times I quit after an hour or so...

yeah well it should only take about 15 seconds in all so its obviously not working, as for why I am not sure it sounds as though you have set it up correctly. Does your phone boot into HBOOT correctly when you plug it in using Unrevoked?
You have to use a custom image to root slcd screen using unrevoked. Let me see if i can find the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7563237&postcount=1
hahaha i'm stupid! *facepalm*
nowhere is written that the sd card has to be in disk mode (opposed to charge only for the downgrade)
now it is working I think that was the only problem .... :S
thanks anyways for the quick answers
hmm ... how long should it take to flash it?
It now correctly goes to hboot, connects and then reboots and then states:
Flashing recovery image. Do not touch your phone!
But it's already been doing that for some minutes....
Is it normal that it starts flashing while the HTC-Boot-Logo is still visible?
(late) EDIT: worked with Linux LiveCD, something on windows made it impossible to finish the rooting process

Borrowed Desire won't boot (white screen)

Hi!
First off, I've been searching for the answer all afternoon, but with no luck.
Here's the thing. My GF borrowed my friends old Desire, because her Legend broke.
When we tried to boot it up, it was stuck at the white HTC screen. So i entered Hboot and tried to use recovery with no luck. Recovery was also stuck at white screen.
My friend had removed his SD card before we borrowed the phone. Could that be the problem? Both me and my friend are pretty new to rooting/flashing. All the info he could give me, was that he was running some Modaco rom, and had used Unrevoked to root the phone.
I tried to download a Modaco rom and rename it PB99IMG.ZIP and putting it at the root of our own SD card. No luck.
Then i tried to put the update.zip (CWM file) with the hope that I could then load recovery. Also no luck.
Also tried to plug in USB cable, so that I could maybe wipe phone and install a new RUU. USB was recognized in Hboot (HBOOT USB PLUG status), but no access gained on the computer. I have manually installed drivers.
My friend lives a bit far away. So is there a way I can solve this without his SD card?
Thanks in advance!

bortak> Awesome guide, will check it out right away!
Okay, so now i followed bortaks guide. Created a gold card, downloaded latest recommended RUU, and then ran it while connected with fastboot usb.
At first i had problems when the RUU rebooted the bootloader. The phone shut down and disconnected instead of rebooting. Tried a few times, and finally got the installation to move on by keeping the phone "alive" through pressing vol buttons -although with a black screen.
But by 29%, while updating radio, the installation froze. After some time i unplugged USB and let the installation fail. So now I'm stuck with the four triangles with exclamation marks. I can run the RUU again and again, but it keeps freezing at various stages of installation.
What to do? It's not bricked, so there must be hope?
Can I take a different approach? Through ADB perhaps?
Thanks again!
RUU installation keeps freezing on my pc! Tried to click vol button to perhaps keep the phone "alive", but then I got error 155
Can't seem to find anything on Google about RUU installs that freezes - do any of you know what to do? Can't I use ADB or anything to flash the ROM?

oooh dear you shouldnt have disconnected it whist it was updating the radio.
i fear you may now have a radio brick
So I can have bricked the radio - but the phone will still respond?

unfortunately yes, if you unplug the phone and turn it on, it should boot in RUU mode, at what point does it say FAIL! ?
if it is on the radio, then I'm afraid it's bricked.. if you managed to luck out somehow and it isn't, then you could try again.
When i turn it on, the black splash screen with exclamation marks comes on. If i try to turn it on with usb cable plugged in while running XP mode on virtual machine, i see the white screen with version informations. But it only says RUU with an orange background.
Tried to install the new Gingerbread RUU from the HTC hp, but it still freezes. Think I'm out of luck
hmm... stick your phone in the freezer (in a plastic bag) for 5-10 minutes then try again.
I know it may sound strange.. but it may be overheating or something.
Whoever you borrowed this from will not be happy haha

Which RUU are you trying to install?
I had the same issue when I realised I was trying to install a 2.1 RUU on my desire which was a bit silly, I had identical problems. used the correct 2.2 RUU and all ok
voodooboy3000 - Was trying to install official 2.3 Gingerbread RUU.
elliottg61 - It was crashing all the time when he had it, so he said i could have it if I could fix it. I couldn't
I would give the original firmware a go and get it back to stock. was it originally locked to a specific provider? if not use this RUU
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048
Your not even s-off. How did he use anything to root. Granted my experience is with the bravoC. The GSM I'm sure is different. I would find the newest ruu available and try to flash that from hboot. If it takes forever go away. Don't touch it. Don't unplug it. Don't do anything till its done. If it wont flash after 30 minutes your screwed I think. U can try it over again. But if u have an official ruu it should flash no problem. If it gonna flash.
Try flashing a shooter port on the og evo, or flash a rom on the shooter. It can seem to hang on you for a while but it just takes time.
Edit: try this just rename it and stick on root of SD card and boot phone with volume down and power and then leave it be.

[Q] Stuck at HBOOT 0.79, NO S-OFF :(

Hi,
I had a evo 4g lying around, power it on, but only HBOOT comes, Android doesnt load.
It doesnt have S-OFF, how shall I proceed

I would try running an old ruu that matches the hboot. Then u can use the unrevoked method of rooting.

Download and install the HTC fastboot drivers to your computer from
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Also, make sure HTC sync is not installed on the computer.
Download to your computer either
https://rs893tg.rapidshare.com/#!do...182851|R~07CB57D22079C8F4C3FEFB08CBF8423F|0|0
or
http://www.fileserve.com/file/MMtRakr
or probably this one.
http://www.fileserve.com/file/PckGRqz
These should be able to be rooted later using unrevoked.
Turn off the phone and connect the phone to your computer, then hold the volume down + power buttons at the same time. Hit the power button once the phone powers up and FASTBOOT is highlighted. It should now read FASTBOOT USB in red. Run either of the RUUs from your computer and see what happens.

If the first step doesn't at least boot into the Operating system, or recovery with an exclamation point for you, then you may have a hardware issue.

It's very possible. This zip just completely wipes everything and, for me, was able to resolve a seemingly unfixable issue that I was having for almost two months. But yeah, if that step doesn't work then he will need to take it to Sprint.

I don't see why you need a gold card with 2.3 RUU?
Run it from your PC.

hi
i only needed to use the goldcard as the phone only had access to bootloader and hboot when i got it.
i have tried the phone again after leaving it for a couple of hours and it worked for about 5 mins perfectly. it then rebooted and started in the reboot cycle again.
are there any ways of testing the hardware to see if it has an overheating problem
cheers

[Q] EVO 4G Bricked

I'll try and keep this to the point, and short and sweet.
My phone was rooted with unrevoked and was running a custom (CM7) rom.
I was in the process of unrooting it by turning S-on with the unrevoked forever s-on tool. This worked flawlessly.
As I was in the process of running the PC3600IMG.zip from my SD card, the flash would never finish. I tried multiple versions that I found online with no success.
I proceeded to try a RUU.exe file instead. Same thing, the flash would not finish and freeze half way through.
During this RUU.exe flash, I unplugged the phone from the usb and I have not been able to access the hboot ever since.
The phone is bricked.
1. Any suggestions or known fix for this?
2. What RUU.exe should I be using? Stats are below
HBOOT 2.10
Radio 2.15.00.11.19
Also, I have done my part doing research on this basically all day long. I have not found anything about this. I have heard though that it may possibly be a partition issue. Does that sound right?

Nothing. I'm unable to access the bootloader. Turning on the phone just goes straight to a black screen with HTC logo no matter what I do.
