HBOOT Simlock - Accidental - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just turned Radio & Eng S-OFF and rebooted my phone into HBOOT to check it had worked (it had) and I must have scrolled down to Simlock. In a moment of stupidity I pressed the power button to turn off the device - completely forgetting this selects the menu item!
I don't know what Simlock does, but I'm assuming it's self explanatory and locks the device to a particular carrier (T-Mobile UK in my case).
I used leith51's method/tool for turning Radio S-OFF which also includes a SimUnlock option. So I ran this tool a second time again selecting the top option (Radio S-OFF, Super-CID and SimUnlock), so to undo whatever "Simlock" does.
Does the SimUnlock in leith51's tool undo the clumsy mistake I made, or is it something else?
Kind regards,
--Mike

hi there, did you find the solution for that? I made the same mistake. I'm desperate for a solution.

The simlock command wont do anything unless you have a certain file on your sd card! Dont worry

What leith51's tool, it is mine
And yeah, like AndroHero said, simlock will not do anything, normally.

[Q] Probelm after applying the new system update.

i have applied the new system update 1.72.405. now my root is gone and my dhd is back to "ship s-on". i have tried to re-root the device but apparently the visionary+ app is no longer working under the new version of system.
i have searched many forums, trying to find a solution. but it seems that now it is impossible to root and s-off for the new 1.72.405 rom, right?
Yes you are right, HTC fixed the exploit that Visionary+ used to root the DHD.
There are a few threads knocking around that warn of this. Sadly HTC don't warn you!
At present, there is no way back unless you were Radio S-OFF before. Give it a few weeks and someone would've found a new way in.
Everyone should be conservative about pressing the confirmation command on the phone for new releases especially the ones who has got Root on their devices.
Maybe out of the scope here but is there any way to see the difference on the device between Radio S-Off and ENG S-Off on the device? I mean once we open the device by pressing holding Power+Volume Down It's saying only SHIP S-OFF??
Most tools will alter the CID on the DHD when applying Radio S-OFF, to check the CID. Look at System Info when booting your DHD with Vol Down.
Normally it would say HTC_001, ORANGE..., etc... But if you have Radio S-OFF & SuperCID it would read CID1111111.

Your in the Fastboot menu. When you press Power + Vol Down let it load and scroll down to System Info, then press power again.

[Q] Is My Phone Branded?

Sorry if this has been answered before but I am unsure as to whether my phone is branded or not.
I bought my Desire HD last November and it is still on a contract with Vodafone. I have no Vodafone logos or apps at all on the phone apart from one app which I dont know about called "SIM toolkit". There are no external Vodafone logos either.
My software version is 1.72.405.3
Thanks guys.
If you pull the battery out and reinsert. Hold volume down + power until you see the white bootloader screen. Using your volume keys scroll down to System Info and press power.
What does your CID read?
Thanks for replying so quickly. There is no System info option. The options that I have are Fastboot, Recovery, Factory Reset, Simlock and Image CRC.
My apologies, System Info only appears on ENG HBoot.
From your description of no Vodafone apps or splash screen I would assume you were unbranded. "SIM Toolkit" appears due to your SIM card having pre-programmed info, such as web links and such.
Are you wanting to root your phone?
I was planning to root my phone when the Sense 3.0 ROM becomes available properly with no bugs.
So if I go about rooting without making a Goldcard and it turns out to be branded, will it mess up the phone in any way?
To root, you would need to downgrade first.
If your are unbranded this process will be no problem at all, simply follow this guide
If your branded your would need to make the goldcard.

corrupt bootloader s-off

hi
i just downgraded my desire hd and then did a radio s-off but then i wanted to do a S-OFF.
i used the easyS-off but then it said bootloader corrupt do not reboot.
i already tried without "I Have Radio S-OFF" then it just says connection problem
i have charged only and debugging turned on
what now?
thnx
hmm what about Easy Radio Tools?
i used that for radio s-off
it worked now!! thnx to this guy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999219
second post!!
I would be hesitamt to reboot though, haven't used the easytool as I personally prefer to know what steps are being carried out, but if it warns that the bootloader is corrupt I wouldn't reboot until I knew the situation is corrected.
Hello guys (I suppose most of the visitors are in fact guys ),
I downgraded my DHD to 1.32 this week and managed to get root-access and did a successful Radio S-OFF using the One click Radio S-OFF.
However; this morning I tried the One click ENG S-OFF but the first time I tried to run the tool I got an error stating "Connection error (SD)". Rebooted my phone and tried again.
This time I got the error "Bootloader corrupt, contact XDA".
After I almost crapped myself I started to search for a solution; someone on this forum stated to go to application settings - superuser - and clear data. Did it and then I got a bunch of applications which did a forced close.
Tried the One click tool again and got the same error (Bootloader corrupt).
In the meanwhile I got all this popups regarding android.process.acore needed to close which finally resulted in an unusable phone so I rebooted...
Thank god this went alright and my phone is up and running again but...
I think the last failure was probably caused by the One click app that doesn't have root access (didn' t get a popup though), but I'm a little afraid to try it again.
Does anyone know if it's save to try it again?

Why not do it longhand? Concise instructions are available here, I realise you already have root but even if you follow the instructions from the begining they aren't gonna do any harm.
Thanks, that could be a solution however I found out that I didn't check the box "I have Radio S-OFF
Tried again with the checkbox checked but got the same error again.
The files that were copied to my SD-card at the first attempt are still there.
Is it safe to remove these files?
Maybe that solves it...
It is very important, that you agree the super user request while the tool does its job.
I had the same problems some weeks ago (bootloader corrupt), because during the flash my display timeout was reached and the super user request failed (black locked screen).
If the tool can not get root, it can not copy the bootloader. The message "bootloader is corrupt" is confusing, because nothing has happend.

Which is one reason I favour doing it long hand at least then youd know it's failed to flash the bootloader
Hmm, strange.
When I boot into the bootmenu (vol. down + power) it states the I'm already ENG s-OFF and hav CID 111111...
Something must have gone right....
However I can't find the line anymore that states that I have Radio S-OFF, is this normal behaviour?

Exactly! The instructions don't mention it, but when you run the easy s-off exe, it goes through a few steps and then your phone will ask you to allow superuser access. So have your screen on and be ready, and THEN run the easy s-off utility. That's all it was for me. I hit "OK" on the error message, tried it again but this time watched my phone and allowed SU access, and it worked fine.
Hi,
I'm posting here because i had the same problem ( Bootloader corrupt etc ... ).
First I rooted my DHD, and made it Eng s-off and installed a rom a few month ago.
Today I wanted to install another rom, and flash the radio.
But I did not remenbered if I already had the radio s-off, so i installed the 1.32 stokified rom, used the easy radio tool ( v2.2 ) and when i wanted to use the easy s-off tool ( v05 ), the program gave me the error message concerning the bootloader corrupt and stuff. I tried it with "I have radio s-off" ticked, and when I try it with unticked, I have a connection error message.
I tried to delete the data from SU, but it didn't help, and then I noticied ( remenbered ) that SU did not asked me the authorizations when I used easy radio tool ans easy s-off.
Anyone have an idea how I can fix that ? Maybe unistall/reinstall SU ?
HTC Desire HD radio S-OFF steps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTFphGbgqbQ&feature=player_embedded
Yes I did that after reinstalling the 1.32 rom, excepted the Visionary steps.
The root is permanent no ? I did it on my previous rom, so I don't have to root it again when I install another rom ?
Anyway, my DHD rebooted when I tried to secure the battery compartment, the bootloader wasn't corrupted, it's fine.
So I checked the bootload, I have ENG s-off and Cid 1111... this mean that my device is radio s-off too right ?

[Q] Water Damaged Desire, screen flicking [SOLVED]

Hi, Im trying to fix my Desire after getting water damaged, I have spent some time disassembling and drying out, so know that all is dry, when I turn it on My O2 screen flashes on then dies out and restarts, staying in this loop. I can get into the hboot menu. so Im looking for help restoring my stock hboot?? I think?
The phone hasnt had any custom images loaded to my knowledge, so i dont think it will be rooted or ready to load custom images.
Anyway my phone details are:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
will it be as easy as finding the hboot and copying to my sd?
much appreciated.
EDIT: NOW SOLVED - Thread Summary:
Alot of useless information in this thread regarding my ACTUAL problem but still some good info on creating Goldcards. After completely drying phone out after getting wet, I reassembled and tried it out, and it just flicked the O2 screen up and restarted, after trying everything below I then found out I needed a new battery, thats all! lol, so this is incase someone else has a phone that acts like mine did after water damage, I have a link to a youtube vid of what my phone was doing.
Thanks to all who helped me get problem resolved, my phone is back!
Can you get to the fastboot?
If so try running "fastboot devices" is your phone recognized?
Edit:
Ah you're S-ON, then go to fastboot, try downloading appropriate RUU for your device and run it.
See what happens. (you might need gold card if you are branded)
I guess you cant get to the recovery?
You could have not changed your hboot if you are s-on. So there is not hboot which needs to be restored. If you are would be really damaged, you would not be able to power on your desire at all. The hboot is the absolute basis of an android phone (like bios for computer). If this gets damaged, your phone is totally bricked and not more than an expensive paperweight.
When you are able to access fastboot (start phone with pressed back and power button or boot into hboot>choose fastboot with volume buttons>enter with power button), you could flash a ruu. To find out which is the right one, you need to tell us wether your phone was branded or not and when it was branded, which provider you have.
Hi thanks for replies, I understand I dont need to replace my hboot as i can get into thue menu and i can get into fastboot menu aswell. Its branded O2 so where can I find an RUU thats suitable?
If you cant get into fastboot menu, you are pretty much screwed because RUU wont detect your phone.

Download this ruu, put your phone into fastboot mode, run the exe and follow the instructions on the screen.
ok i have downloaded that ruu, but its not detecting my phone. when i first turn phone on with vol- held i get hboot menu. one of the options is fastboot (already selected) i select that by pressing power button, then my menu changes to fast boot. then my options are: bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, power down. i left it at this menu while i ran the RUU, is this correct? also do I need to install any other software on pc? I have installed the HBOOT USB driver earlier while I was looking about, does this need removing? also my hboot menu when first run looks through files on my sd card, should i copy the ruu file to sd?

Yes, not touching the menu is correct.
No, you do not need to install any other software on your pc.
No, you do not need to remove the hboot usb driver.
No, don't copy the ruu to sd. I recommend to save important data on sd card (just in case). Just run the ruu on your computer.
I get USB Connection Error while phone displays fastboot usb, any ideas?
Shall I try a GoldCard?

Installed hboot drivers correctly:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Furthermore, check if you have only htc sync drivers installed.
The goldcard can only avoid the cid error, and has nothing to do with the usb connection.
When u use Unrevoked remove HTC connectivity from ur computer...
And u can use FastbootCommanderV.1.5 to patch HBOOT...
ok getting somewhere USb drivers must be screwed on my lappy, i installed on another machine and using fastboot commander I could connect in fastboot mode and got my phone details up, I then tried the RUU that you gave me a link to earlier and it successfully connected and attempted the update, although after about 2 mins it says that its the wrong version ruu. current version is: 2.14.207.3, one contained in RUU is 2.14.207.1 So what should I do now?
wow what crappy luck, you seem to have a new version so it won't let you downgrade.. bump from my end :/

No it will not. A goldcard can only help you, if you want to flash a stock ruu although you have a branded phone. When you do not have a goldcard in this situation, you get a cid error.

so will it be safe to flash a wwe over my stock o2?

Yes and no. For the case, he wants the stock ruu, you are right. But he wants to use his warranty, so needs the ruu of this provider. But the ruu he wants flash is older than the one he is running now. So he cannot flash the the ruu. And this problem cannot be avoided by using a goldcard, because the hboot version has nothing to do with the cid number.
On this way I at least understand the matter. Correct me, if I am wrong.

[Q] Strange bootloader unlocking problem on Desire 300 O_O

Hi all,
After spending bunch if time seeking a solution, I found no one met this kind of issue when unlocking bootloader.
First, I wanted to unlock the bootloader as it was the only solution to fix a soft-brick on my phone. At switching-on, the phone starts with HTC green logo on white screen and stay on, and then vibrate 4 times and nothing else happens.
Recovery option through HBOOT menu does not solve it.
So under HBOOT menu, I plugged the usb cable, and proceed with the bootloader unlocking procedure according the step by step procedure on HTC Dev website & our famous forum.
Everything' goes well until i send the .bin unlock file to the phone in FASTBOOT USB mode, then it displays the unloack bootloader prompt window.
BUT it is impossible to validate the choice "YES Unlock bootloader (may void your warranty). Absolutely nothing happens when I press the power button, WHEREAS the choice "NO" works and reboot my phone the the HBOOT Menu.
So, it seems as a kind of another protection is blocking the bootloader unlocking ??
Phone information are the following :
*** LOCKED ***
***Security Warning ***
G3U PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.18.0002
RADIO-14.11.36Q4.21
OS-1.10.401.4
eMMC-boot
Nov 12 2013, 11:57:38.0
If anyone has an idea to explore a solution, i'd be pleased to try it .
Thanks a lot.
On htc's unlock bootloader page, which version did you try?
I used "All other supported models" and it unlocked mine without problems.
(my device has the same hboot but a slightly different radio version)

I chosen "All other supported models" , as the model is not listed.
Otherwise i guess it wouldn't have given me the bin file .

Well it's the only point in the procedure I could think off that might have been misunderstood.
(Desire * could have been misinterpreted as any desire model instead of needs hboot upgrade)
Other than that and the obvious keep trying until it works, I'm out of ideas that could be of use to you.
Sorry & Good Luck
Maybe the desire* one would work. I used the All Supported Models option also and it didn't gave me any problems unlocking it.

A certain guy at a service shop told me it is probably a bricked EMMC chip where the bootloader and recovery are, so you can't do anything about it.
I'm no expert, so I don't know if this makes any sense, but that was what I was told.
I have HTC desire 300 and I unlocked bootloader with no problem when unlock bootloader screen came I just used volume key to select yes and then pressed power button and it rebooted and unlocked. I suggest you try all procedure again on another computer.
I've same problem on HTC Desire 500((
no PC problem, no .bin file problem
Power button respond only in NO position
I have same problem with a desire 300. I used both bins (all supported devices and desire *) with no success. Only No option responds.
I have same issue, power button responds on NO not on Yes.
