Hi, Im trying to fix my Desire after getting water damaged, I have spent some time disassembling and drying out, so know that all is dry, when I turn it on My O2 screen flashes on then dies out and restarts, staying in this loop. I can get into the hboot menu. so Im looking for help restoring my stock hboot?? I think?
The phone hasnt had any custom images loaded to my knowledge, so i dont think it will be rooted or ready to load custom images.
Anyway my phone details are:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
will it be as easy as finding the hboot and copying to my sd?
much appreciated.
EDIT: NOW SOLVED - Thread Summary:
Alot of useless information in this thread regarding my ACTUAL problem but still some good info on creating Goldcards. After completely drying phone out after getting wet, I reassembled and tried it out, and it just flicked the O2 screen up and restarted, after trying everything below I then found out I needed a new battery, thats all! lol, so this is incase someone else has a phone that acts like mine did after water damage, I have a link to a youtube vid of what my phone was doing.
Thanks to all who helped me get problem resolved, my phone is back!
Can you get to the fastboot?
If so try running "fastboot devices" is your phone recognized?
Edit:
Ah you're S-ON, then go to fastboot, try downloading appropriate RUU for your device and run it.
See what happens. (you might need gold card if you are branded)
I guess you cant get to the recovery?
You could have not changed your hboot if you are s-on. So there is not hboot which needs to be restored. If you are would be really damaged, you would not be able to power on your desire at all. The hboot is the absolute basis of an android phone (like bios for computer). If this gets damaged, your phone is totally bricked and not more than an expensive paperweight.
When you are able to access fastboot (start phone with pressed back and power button or boot into hboot>choose fastboot with volume buttons>enter with power button), you could flash a ruu. To find out which is the right one, you need to tell us wether your phone was branded or not and when it was branded, which provider you have.
Hi thanks for replies, I understand I dont need to replace my hboot as i can get into thue menu and i can get into fastboot menu aswell. Its branded O2 so where can I find an RUU thats suitable?
If you cant get into fastboot menu, you are pretty much screwed because RUU wont detect your phone.

Download this ruu, put your phone into fastboot mode, run the exe and follow the instructions on the screen.
ok i have downloaded that ruu, but its not detecting my phone. when i first turn phone on with vol- held i get hboot menu. one of the options is fastboot (already selected) i select that by pressing power button, then my menu changes to fast boot. then my options are: bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, power down. i left it at this menu while i ran the RUU, is this correct? also do I need to install any other software on pc? I have installed the HBOOT USB driver earlier while I was looking about, does this need removing? also my hboot menu when first run looks through files on my sd card, should i copy the ruu file to sd?

Yes, not touching the menu is correct.
No, you do not need to install any other software on your pc.
No, you do not need to remove the hboot usb driver.
No, don't copy the ruu to sd. I recommend to save important data on sd card (just in case). Just run the ruu on your computer.

Installed hboot drivers correctly:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Furthermore, check if you have only htc sync drivers installed.
The goldcard can only avoid the cid error, and has nothing to do with the usb connection.
When u use Unrevoked remove HTC connectivity from ur computer...
And u can use FastbootCommanderV.1.5 to patch HBOOT...
ok getting somewhere USb drivers must be screwed on my lappy, i installed on another machine and using fastboot commander I could connect in fastboot mode and got my phone details up, I then tried the RUU that you gave me a link to earlier and it successfully connected and attempted the update, although after about 2 mins it says that its the wrong version ruu. current version is: 2.14.207.3, one contained in RUU is 2.14.207.1 So what should I do now?
wow what crappy luck, you seem to have a new version so it won't let you downgrade.. bump from my end :/

No it will not. A goldcard can only help you, if you want to flash a stock ruu although you have a branded phone. When you do not have a goldcard in this situation, you get a cid error.

Yes and no. For the case, he wants the stock ruu, you are right. But he wants to use his warranty, so needs the ruu of this provider. But the ruu he wants flash is older than the one he is running now. So he cannot flash the the ruu. And this problem cannot be avoided by using a goldcard, because the hboot version has nothing to do with the cid number.
On this way I at least understand the matter. Correct me, if I am wrong.

I downloaded the new 2.3 RUU as I wanted stock unrooted GB on desire.
I had/have oxygen R2 hboot on vodafone UK and I didnt make a goldcard (didnt think I needed one stupidly with an official RUU)
so I tried to run the RUU and now my screen is black with HTC logo and exclamation marks in all four corners.
is this now a bit fat brick or is there anything I can do?

That's a vodafone RUU, it works for my phone, it will work for yours, so AFAIK you don't need a goldcard to use that one.
Turn off your phone (battery pull), hold back + power which will boot you into fastboot mode, then run the RUU from your pc (plug your phone via usb obviously)

you'd only need a goldcard if you are unbranding a phone i.e. having a vodafone one and running a WWE RUU.. if you have the right RUU you don't need one.. since the CID et. etc. matches the RUU.

i cant get into fastboot.
Only a black screen with HTC logo in middle and exclamation marks in 4 corners. Where it usually says "HBOOT" etc it just Says RUU
tried running the one you sent and it just fails with a 152 Image Error
yeah thats what happens, but you should still be able to get fastboot* (*I think), and then flash it..
okay when this happened to my phone, I ran the HTC Europe RUU, which finished installing and restored my hboot (no idea why), then I was able to flash recovery and simply flash a new ROM from there. You can try it. No promises though.

i Cant get fastboot as far as I'm aware - I tried getting into it I just get the HTC logo and when I unplug from PC I get recovery looking page (white screen) but it just says RUU and nothing else?!
umm yeah it doesn't say fastboot USB, says RUU.. meaning you need to flash a RUU. Keep trying.. maybe you'll find one that works for me (I did the trial and error method lol)
My friend has a desire which is completely standard, it has never been rooted or modified.
At the moment when he switches the phone on, it is stuck on the HTC splash screen, he can access boot mode if he holds volume down with power.
Any idea on how to fix this problem?
Thanks
if the phone is branded, find the latest RUU for his network from here, boot into fastboot (power off, then hold back & power), plug phone in via usb and run the RUU. make sure you find the right one or you'll just make it worse
If the phone is unbranded, flash the latest WWE RUU.
If the phone is branded and you cannot find the correct RUU, and you also have a desire, create a goldcard with HIS sd-card, then flash the latest WWE RUU

I created a goldcard a while ago using a spare SD card i have got. So it seems quite straight forward them, flash the WWE ruu whilst the goldcard is in the phone?
But how come you mention the goldcard must be HIS sd?
no just the fact that so he would be able to keep it, any goldcard will work (sorry if that confused you ). And yeah it's pretty straightforward with a goldcard, just flash the latest WWE RUU.
An update on the situation;
I have been doing some research on XDA and a few people mention to put the phone in the fridge for 5 mins. I have done this and the phone does boot up normally.
But when the phone gets warm, it restarts and freezes on the HTC screen again.
Is it still the same procedure to fix this? By inserting a goldcard and flashing the WWE ruu?
thanks

Me too.
Whatever procedure you do (run RUU, have it rooted etc...), the phone seems to get warm through the procedure anyway.
I join the opinion about the faulty motherboard.
I would sent the phone to htc anyway, but with a letter in which your friend asks if it's possbile to make a quotation. When your friends gets one back, he can decide wether he wants pay for the repair or just buy a new phone.
I think I could be with the same problem, phone working perfect till it gets warm enough that it restarts and halts in splash screen. This behaviour has been repeating over weeks till now, that it wont event load recovery, it stucks at the splash screen...
It seems all hboot and fastboot commands work without problems, but the phone is unable to start properly. Could this be a problem with the phone itself that leads to failure upon heating up?
I've also tried this:

But I get a "can't find the phone via USB" error running the UK Vodafone Froyo RUU being in fastboot, any clue what this could be?
Make sure you installed hboot drivers and htc sync drivers (correctly).
this problem is very similar to mine i was having with restarting in heavy usage, about 35°C the phone automaticly reboots over and over again
this problem is caused by faulty mobo for 99% this case the whole motherboard being replaced,
few days before i pick up my repaired desire and now everything works perfect,
so only one solution - if you are S-off reeturn to stock S-on and sent desire to repair
idea
I have an idea.. if it works when it's cold.. why don't you plug it in via USB.. stick it in your freezer.. and run the RUU from a laptop next to it .. I know it's a longshot... but could give it a try
I've got a weird behaviour now... When I plug the phone on fastboot, the RUU program recognices it, but the phone freezes there in the first step, so I have to restart the phone for the program to continue.
Its like if every time the program itself talks to the phone, the phone halts in fastboot, not letting the program boot in hboot and flash itself... ^^
Any clue what this could be? I'm gonna send the phone to support, but I would like to restore it to S-ON at least to avoid problems with void waranty...
EDIT: I've finally made the update on the phone, but it seems RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2 didnt touch the HBOOT, so I'm still S-OFF (and the Alpharev pink slogan is on first line). Should I flash a more recent RUU or is there another way to get rid of S-OFF? The rest seems to be OK, the phone is still not loading past splash but the recovery seems to revert back to normal (no CWM).
EDIT2: I've forgot to flash bravo_downgrader from alpharev to unlock the hboot to be able to overwrite it... damn! Now to hope HTC could fix my phone or at least send me another that works properlly...
my htc is broken when i turn it on it dont start it show that secure off screen and it start flash green points.
I also can get to recovery but i cannot connect it to my computer and it cannot find my sd card or anything any1 can help how i can unroot it if i can at all since it cannot find sd card or plug to computer.

You don't need htc sync. All you need is your phone, a pc, a usb cable and the RUU.
Fastboot. USB. RUU. 3 steps you need.
If that doesn't work download fastboot drivers.

Ohh if you're returning for warranty then this changes things slightly.
If the phone was branded i.e. you got it on contract with a network, you need to use the RUU for that network. (except for orange)
If the phone was unbranded i.e. bought from a store such as amazon.com then you're okay.
If you're unsure, you can use the official 2.3 RUU, which will definitely cover your warranty.
If you're not returning for warranty purposes - don't worry about it.
So, I have this Droid Incredible 2 from a Co-worker that I said I would try and fix for him. He knew I was a little better at trying to fix stuff like this since I've done all this stuff before on my Droid Incredible and Motorola Xoom Wifi.
The Problem:
When starting the phone like normal it gets stuck at the HTC screen.
What I've tried so far:
- PG32IMG.zip (Stock 2.3.4) Starts going through the process and then sticks at "Updating Recovery"
- Recovery will start and continues to say "Updating software from Verizon Wireless," but then turns to the red warning sign with the android guy.
Other Important Info:
- S-ON
- HBOOT-0.98.0000
- Android Version 2.3.4
- Can't get the phone to show up in "ADB Devices" on PC, but I can get my Droid Incredible and Xoom too.
I looked for hours on multiple sites and always came up short with the solution being to either have S-Off or turn on USB debugging. Both of which wont work because I cant get that far.
Anyone have any ideas? (I've been a lurker on these forums for a while now and I've usually found what I needed here)

OK, the only thing is I couldnt tell you because the phone wont even get past the white HTC boot screen so I can't even get into that option or anything else like it for that matter. The only thing I have to work with is the bootloader menu (HBOOT, FASTBOOT, RECOVERY (Doesnt work), etc.)

I've tried my droid incredible cord, my xoom cord, my lumia 900 cord, and the stock one he gave me. They work on all my other devices, so it's down to this incredible 2 being a pain.
I somehow got my computer to notice the device as "My HTC" under device manager by putting it in "fastboot usb." Doing so and running the downgrade hack I get the following in the cmd window and it looks to be stalled:
C:\vwhk-12102011-c>fastboot oem rebootRUU
...
If I'm right doesn't the device have to be in debugging mode before the computer will show the device under "adb devices?" (Which as I said wont happen because I can only work with the bootloader menu)

Tried it both ways for kicks (Main Version is Older through HBOOT and C:\vwhk-12102011-c>fastboot oem rebootRUU ... again).
And yes I put both a copy of the RUU changed too PG32IMG and another one with RUU_Vivo_W_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.18.605.3_Radio_1.09.01.0622_NV_VZW1.92_release_199487_signed on the sd card, once again just for kicks.
what ruu are you trying to put in? it has to be the latest or the 2.3.4 with .98 hboot, then you can run the downgrade tool. also the bootloader has to be locked, if it is unlocked, you must relock, ( i don;t know all your circumstances so i'm just trying to narrow it down)
you can get that ruu from jellybellies or condemned soul on here somewhere

Well now I'm trying to use the newest from jellybellies (2.3.4 w/ .98 HBOOT), but the downgrade tool stops in the same place and when trying to run the update through the bootloader it stalls and freezes at "[2] RECOVERY - Updating."
The bootloader is locked as it's highlighted in pink on the very top as well.
I do appreciate all the help from everyone so far.
Well buddy i don't know if your running the downgrade tool you must have gotten the ruu installed, here's another thing i found out, it's better to run the downgrade on a 32bit system, i had trouble on a 64bit, then tried on my other computer and it went. you could try a different computer, sometimes it works.
also, you must run as administrator, remove any sync stuff like htc sync or itunes, and disable virus program, friggin itunes will mess you up
So, I gave up on the other methods for now and decided to try the HTC Unlocker Utility for the hell of it. I get all the way to the end and I cant select "YES." I can only select "NO"

So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

I'm not too worried about getting a different rom on it, or rooting it or anything any more, currently I'd like to just put it back into a working state, as it was, probably locked to o2, if you've any suggestions on how to do that?

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?
Also how do I run the RUU on my computer? What file is it in the HTC Desire Android Upgrade folder I need to run? Afterall, there's no file titled 'RUU.exe'
Thanks

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.

I've unlocked the bootloader (although obviously I'm still S-ON and HBOOT 1.03), so how would I go about installing a custom recovery?
Everything I can find online implies I need to do it starting with the phone up and running...
Thanks

You download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28277117
You extract the recovery.img from it.
You then use fastboot to flash it:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

That worked spot on! Have you got anything you'd recommend I put on there now? (factory reset didn't do anything, didn't really expect it to)
I tried cyangenmod7 for the desire, but with no luck. File 'BAD' or somethign when tried to read it from the SD card.

Try a MildWild ROM. Maybe the CM7 download was somehow faulty.
Can ya post the link to the thread and not just post the PB99IMG file? Thanks

You're getting good at this
So, that's on and working, but it's still locked to the carrier, o2. I've just tried 'HTC Desire unlock v0.9.5' but that didn't work (despite the program telling me it went flawlessly).
Any more suggestions?

Nope, nada. I tried v0.94 too. Nothing again. I guess I'll need to get a key. Damn that hboot 1.03!
At least the phone is actually WORKING now though, thanks to you, appreciated.
