[Q] VOID? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just swapping out my old SD card for a new one, and noticed that inside my phone, to the top left above the battery, there's now a little "VOID" indicator. I haven't dropped it in water or any such other ridiculous thing. Any thoughts on what may have triggered this? I suppose it doesn't much matter since I rooted and thus voided my warranty anyway, but still... I don't like that little VOID staring at me...

As I understand it that's one of those "void if removed" stickers, I suspect that there is a screw underneath the sticker that you would need to remove to disassemble the phone.

Hmmm... so you're saying it's always been there? Strange, I never noticed it before!

raitchison is right, we all have it, its there to keep you from removing the screw and opening up your phones case. Its made from some form of dried ink.

I can't believe I never noticed it before. Thanks for clearing it up though! (And apologies for an unnecessary thread).

LCD color problem: Weird Teal/Blue-ish

Hey Everyone,
My LCD screen seems to not be displaying colors as well as it should, almost as if it isn't displaying all the colors that it is in fact capable of...
I had some prior problems with my phone, including a non-functional power button, a digitizer with some unresponsive blind spots along the left and right side of the screen, and a very faint/low volume through the in-call speaker.
I had been planning to go inside my phone using the teardown/repair guide, and actually ended up stripping my phone down to the LCD panel.
The good news is I have fixed all the problems that I had set out to fix while doing the teardown.
HOWEVER, my screen is now a weird teal/blue color. For example, when I equip the standard HTC skin (the one with the nice colorful bubble background) Instead of the notification bar/button being a solid steel gray, they seem to have striping pattern with some dull colors of gray but with this teal coloration.
I was wondering if it is more likely something to do with the pcb/lcd getting slightly damaged when I did the teardown, or is it possible it is something to do with a setting on my phone? (the boot screen did load up once, when I was doing the teardown and checking if my phone still worked, I chose reboot as the option)
HELP!
Well more then likely it is the conectors I've seen it to many times when people dicide to take apart phones id say take it all apart and make sure your cabbles are plugged in nice and and firm report back and tell me. Also make sure you havnt nicked anythng on the pcb boards (traces or anything) no nicked cords ect

Same thing happening with mine, it's a week old and I've never taken it apart.
Only thing i can think of that happened that makes sense is a damaged pcb flex cable, thats it.but the weird thing is i fixed everything else. Its annoying cause videos look wack and taking photos is also messed. Ill probably go back into my phone and see what i can do, ive opened it like 8 times so wont be too hard.

me too
Just wonderening if anyone found a solution to this problem as I am experiencing the same thing. I have never taken my phone apart. I have my own post called display color problems. Please help! This is absolutely obnoxious!
I sent mine back to Bell for repair. Took 2 weeks, don't know what they did but it works great now.
Was that an expensive repair? Wish I knew what the problem was so I could try to fix it myself.

Actually it was covered under warranty so cost me nothing.
Well thanks anyway.

Is your phone not under warranty? If it's because you rooted it, you can relock the phone with gfree and restore the BellMobility RUU...
Yeah I guess I could but I really can't go two weeks with no phone. That's the main problem.

Figured I'd give this thread a bump. Really just hoping that someone out there has some experience with this problem. I've searched the net high and low to no avail. I don't want to waste money on unnecessary parts if I just need one. Presently, I plan on replacing my LCD. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them...

This happened to me before i first opened up my phone. I wouldn't replace the LCD because i cracked mine, and had to replace it and it still does it. Just try and get a replacement phone from your carrier or the store from which you bought it while they fix it. Easiest option.

HTC Desire battery warranty

My original HTC Desire battery is bloated na. It became big. Big to the point that I can't fully close the back cover. And when it reaches 50 percent, it shuts down already. Battery empty.
My phone is still under warranty. 10th month. Can HTC replace my battery for free under warranty?

Official battery is very expensive, I think about 40 euros on some websites. Does your problem continue with you change your rom ? It perhaps come from your rom

Are you saying that you battery has physically expanded?
If so, take it out of the damn phone asap!
Yes, your warranty will cover it assuming it wasn't caused by overcharging due to something you loaded/flashed/did.
(I've got no idea if that's possible, but I could imagine that if charging is handled by the OS you could overcharge it if you lost battery calibration or something)
I have another extra battery. It works fine. Yes the original expanded. As in it's fat. But still works. Though until 50 percent only.
What's weird is that when I got my phone, I got an extra battery original. Been using the extra battery as a primary. Then I noticed that the original one got fatter. Wasn't even using it that much.
You guys think HTC will replace it? I don't overcharge. I'm particular when charging my phone. Its turned off whenever I charge and I use another phone. Sad it bloated despite taking care of it.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
They will replace it
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The reason I'd suggest you don't keep using it is that there's obviously something physically wrong with it, and if it were me I wouldn't want to risk it bursting/leaking inside my phone. That's all
Thanks guys. Will go to HTC Service Center tomorrow to ask them to replace the battery.

Not Charging, help.

Last night, I spilled a little bit of soda at the top of my phone. I got the phone away, and dried it before anything else really happened. However, I wake up today and my phone isn't charging. No matter what I do, it won't charge. I have confirmed multiple chargers that they work, and that it is the phone. My phone is about to die, and I can't charge it. I've tried cleaning it out with a tissue(nothing else at the moment to work with), and nothing I do works.
So, after a battery pull, it's charging again, but I'm afraid it might happen. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what might've happened?
You didn't put it in rice?

I quickly checked it over for damage, I got it out quick enough before it really got into the phone, so that wasn't necessary. It was sticky, not wet.
This is why I don't drink soda.

Damage to any electrical aplliance due to liquid can happen only when there is an electrical current running thru it (i.e. when the phone is on). The extent of the damage, if any, varies and it not quite possible for you to know what exactly went wrong just because you know something spilled on the top/bottom/back etc. since it just seeps thru and wiring at one part of the phone can affect a different part of the phone.
Therefore, to tell you exactly what happened you'd have to open up the phone and have a look inside (NOT recommended, obviously).
Keep in mind there's a chance it's just a bug, as you mentioned you simply rebooted it and all was good... don't know how likely that is unless you've been really messing around with custom ROMs and kernels, over or underclocking it, and even then I wouldn't bet on it..
My suggestions? You can buy an external charger if that's the only problem that's showed up, just in case it happens again. There are a lot of eBay sellers out there, many people on the forums here have recommended a seller called shimshop (if you have the GSM version).
If the problem persists, try sending it claiming your warranty. I know that spilling water voids the warranty, but keep in mind that a) it's possible that the spillage wasn't the cause of the problem, and b) they may not know what caused the problem, either. When I was a kid I was tinkering around with my GBA and literally blew it's battery connectors (smoke and all and here were clear burn marks on the inside). Wouldn't turn on after that... sent it in to Nintendo simply stating that it wouldn't turn on and as I expected, they didn't even bother looking into what was really wrong with it and sent back a new one.
Unethical? Yup. But I was a panicked little boy who just wanted to play Golden Sun... and if they can't see anything that has voided the warranty, than the warranty is still there.
Worse case scenario, they send it back saying that your warranty hasn't covered it due to [insert reason].

Yellow on my screen?

I recently got a replacement phone from VM and I noticed that a yellowish tone would sometimes appear on the top left of my screen... Is it permanent, does it go away, is there a way to fix it?
it's a faulty LCD
Sent from my ST25i
Happened to me to.. either over time it went away or my eyes are used to it and cant see it anymore
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure what makes it appear, but sometimes it's completely invisible, and other times it would flare up for a bit. Maybe it's the temperature under load cause I mostly see when browsing the web, or watching vids on YouTube. I guess I can call VM and get another replacement, but if these are early builds then there's a good chance that they will have the same issue since it was common thing back in April and May...
Its because of the heat while on charger I think mine went away after a week or so
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
Its not a heat problem or anything. It is just the glue used to stick the glass togethet. As you said this issue was a common issue in first one v's that we're bought but after may loot this issue is gone. I will consider getting a replacement.

As icebox said, get replacement and make sure the manufacturing date is not before june2012. I got mine replaced as the yellow did not go away even after 3 months!

[Q] Broken metal strip for battery connection

So the other day one of those metal strips where the battery connects into got somehow pushed into the phone. I was getting incorrect battery readings and it would, every now and then, act like it was charging when it wasn't. I decided to try to pull it out a little with some pliers, but accidentally pulled too hard and ripped it out of the phone. Now my phone is pretty much dead. I was wondering if there is any way to fix this, even if it is temporary, or if I should just bring it into a Sprint store and see what they can do. Thank you in advance for any help. EDIT: I apologize if this is not in the correct section of the forums.
You might need a replacement. You could bring it to sprint and act stupid. Or you can look up tuscani81 and buy the housing. I am pretty sure its a part of the housing. I could be wrong. If you ask him he can tell you

That sux
That's the worst.
Thanks, Patrao. I guess I'll look up that guy and see what he can suggest for me. If that doesn't work I'll act stupid for Sprint. lol
Just dont try to wedge anything in there. Not only could it be fire hZard but it could short the board and fry anytging you had in there. Goodluck man.

Could you upload a picture of the damage, OP? Any battery contact is part of the motherboard. Either you replace the contact cradle 'soldering skills required' or you replace the motherboard.
