There are quite a few threads about going from dk17 to dk28, but none that I could find about getting back to dk17. This can probably be resolved with a few quick links, so I'd appreciate the help if anyone can provide it. Was/is dk17 the current official release? Do I want to go dk05 and then dk17? Any help is greatly appreciated
DK17 is just a previous leak. There is no reason you'd want to be in DK17 rather than DK28.

Well I want to go back to these non-froyo based roms, as I haven't found one that I've been happy with. Battery life is half of what it was prior to froyo

DK17 is Froyo....you don't want that then if you want to return to 2.1. I agree about some of the bugs but depending on your usage you should be able to get a days worth out of your phone. You would need to return to stock using Odin.
Here are some links that might helps:

Thanks MILcityBoi, you don't want dk17 because dk17 is even worse than dk28! Di18 is what you want, its what came with your phone stock and what we have actual source for.

For those stating there is no reason to go back to DK17, there are two reasons that I know of. Voice dialing over bluetooth works, and audio out from the Samsung docks works. In DK28, these are broken. I have not had any problems since going back to DK17, using Quantum 1.5 (from 2.1). I kept the newer modem, wiped, and flashed 1.5 over 2.1.

When I went back to Quantum 1.5, I wasn't sure if I would need to go back to the older modem or not, but it still works. Since it does work, I get whatever fixes and optimizations were made in the newer modem.

You should be able to flash that file in Odin to get back to the latest stock Eclair. Honestly, I'd stay on DK28 if I were you, but to each their own
There's plenty of threads around with Odin info, just search the forums if you need the Odin 101 course...
Just a disclaimer - there's no MD5 hashing available for this image, so if the download is corrupted for some reason you could get into some trouble. Flash at your own risk!

It isn't directly supported like it is in Froyo, although 3rd party browsers (like Dolphin Browser HD) have built in support for it.
So I could go to the dk28 modem, but keep running eclair-based roms and kernels?
Won't you still have the hard-coded gps accuracy? Or does the modem fix that on 2.1?

I'm not sure. I'm back on di18 right now, running epic experience with phoenix kernel. Switched from viperrom 4.0.2c. Much happier, far more stable, with way better battery life (as I remember). GPS accuracy improved from 2400 meters to 30, using the *#1472365# cold start setting. I want to find out if I can rock dk28 with these settings.

Im looking for a stock rom with no changes to it that allows me to keep root. I Looked through all the older threads in development but it seems there have been updates and such. Right now I am running CM 6.1 and it seem my batt is dying way faster then it did on a stock rom. I'd like to compare them and such. If anyone has one or can point me in the right direction i'd be happy! Thank you!

Yes, I am experiencing higher drain as well. Search the development section for cr_mod, look for the CR_Mod OTA 1.35.something. It's the rooted stock ROM with a wireless tether built in, OTA update and all. That's what your looking for. I flashed dumfuq's OC 4.0 kernel over the stock ROM and got better battery life than the stock HTC kernel, so I also recommend doing that. I'm on cm6.1 stable now, so I can easily modify themes, since it's AOSP based, and also so I can use the gingerbread latin_IME keyboard, since you need at least froyo to do that.

Hey thanks! I went back for about 8 hours and hated it. Im back on CM 6.1 and im getting terrible battery life still. IDK, I am going to try and reformat my SD card and reflash at a full battary etc. I migh ttry the kernel, but, I really don't want any OC of any kind, just maybe a lower standby setting, something in the range of 50mhz while the screen is off or something.

I cant see how formating an sd card could help. Anywho, cm 6.1 has the oc kernal already built into it. You dont need to flash any kernals, just use setcpu to adjust the speed.

I said try flashing dumfuq 4.0 over it because I THINK, not positive, but I was speculating that cyanogen had modified the kernel slightly that was causing a battery drain issue, because I stopped having so many issues with it when I flashed dumfuq's 4.0 kernel over it. Sounds weird, but it helped. I still have an occasional glitch where something is holding a wakelock on the system and it won't go to sleep, which is really annoying, and I think I traced it back to the music app, but still not sure there. I've been off of the charger for over an hour, with just 11 minutes of screen on and screen is 71% of the usage while cell standby is 11%, that's what makes me think flashing dumfuqs 4.0 fixed it. Cyanogen must've made a modification.
So, also @ the OP, go into spare parts battery history and see what is using it. If "running" is up above like 30 or 50% then you have something holding a wakelock, go to partial wake usage, and look at the app or UID that's got the wakelock. Rebooting normally gets rid of the lock for me, like I said, haven't quite figured it out yet.

Hey,
I'm having some issues being stuck @ the Samsung screen.
Here are the steps taken in flashing:
1. Updated to stock ota EC05
2. Root phone
3. Update CWM3 to .5
4. 3 finger reboot to allow ext4 update
5. flash rom
Where am I messing up?

Besides Voodoo color what can we expect to see in Bonsai 4.0.2? Using the update instead of full install I didn't see any bugs but some others did so I figure 4.0.2 will have to be a full install.
I tried ACS 1.1 for the 1.4 OC... I basically had to keep the cover off with all the battery pulls.
Now back to Bonasai 4 and just no problems.

Hey guys im curious is there anyone who has been able to fully replace EC05 roms with one of the gingerbread roms availalbe? And in doing so keeping the stability, battery performance, and speed of the EC05 roms? I've personally gone from an amazing experience with ACS SFR 1.2 to Ginger Bamboozled and ERA hurricane rom and personally have not seen any benefits with keeping gingerbread. I notice no battery improvements and the phone has slowed down significantly. The only plus i've seen with gingerbread is the cool CRT off animation. Note i've never run the commands to stop processes that update in the background i.e. DRM and SNS, which from what I read make a fairly big difference with getting better battery life on EH17 roms. So at this point I'm thinking of going back to SFR 1.2 or another EC05 rom. Is there someone out there that can give me some useful tips on how to make the Gingerbread roms run smoother for me or am I just wasting my time? Also I used to get random Reboots on Gingerbread but i've noticed that it has stopped, odd. Oh almost forgot I use my keyboard all the time for writing emails for work and not having the skipped letters fix is so annoying. I want to shoot my phone sometimes.
Have you tried Spare Parts and setting all animations to FAST in it? I am on Bonsai B14 EG22 and my phone is about as fast as it was on EC05 ROMs. I do stop all processes when I first boot and have a few frozen with Titanium.

I don't care if that does anything for the actual speed or not...its a hell of a placebo effect. Another thing is you could oc with tegrak
As of right now, I don't see any advantage of using a Gingerbread Rom. I was in the same boat as you. I tried a few of them but due to the random reboots and keyboard skips, I couldn't take it anymore. I'm now using the Epic Revolution Rom and I love it. I won't be going back to Gingerbread till the official release.

Depends on the apps you have
I'm running the ERA OLYMPUS 1.6 EH06 ROM. I hoard apps and that's really bad for performance of the device and battery. I haven't frozen the SNS/Updates but I freeze the DRM every time I install a ROM anyway. I just managed to get all the apps that like running in the background to not do that by messing with the settings and clearing widgets. I can now last at least 5 hours on battery while actually using the phone. My battery life has been about the same on every ROM I've ever used. I would say to try this ROM with Journaling enabled and running Chris' new EH17 Plus kernel. I am also using the EH17 modem. Everything is working pretty well for me now.
No good reason to keep the leaks. However, if you are converted to ext4 and use the v6 supercharge script its as smooth and responsive as sfr 1.2 at 1.4ghz.

I've been dealing with the same dilemma the past week. I've found that there's really no pros to keeping the gb roms. Although I really like the theme on bamboozle as well as my quadrant stats. Speaking of which, can anyone tell me where I can get the SII lockscreen that comes with bamboozle? It's definitely my preferred lock screen. If anyone can help that'd be awesome thanks!
Thanks for good responses
Thanks guys for all the feedback, I think i'm being swayed more towards the EC05 roms until the release of gingerbread source files. I think the biggest thing now that look at it is the keyboard letter skips. I rely on my phones keyboard far to much to write really fast work emails and no matter how I setup my virtual keyboard or auto correction on TouchPal keyboard or Swype, its just not accurate enough and I waste more time trying to fix the auto corrections. Thanks again everyone and I really hope this thread assist others with making a their choices on which Rom to Choose or which version of Rom to choose. Froyo here I come.... now i gotta figure out if I want to go with Era or ACS lol.
In my opinion, no. After trolling all around using GB Leaks I finally came back to Froyo (Bonsai 4.1.3) because of the stability and speed.
I think its best just to wait for something official when it can be polished and tweaked with.
I too have been up and down the development pages, trying out different roms an modems, froyo and GB. Froyo was cool when i was using it, but I like the way GB looks. I actually had more problems with the Froyo roms than with GB roms, but that could be bc im getting better at rooting.
Right now im running RandomROM 2.3.4 on the EG22 modem with generation x theme. I get a couple of framework fc's throughout the day, but it doesnt seem to actually fc anything. I seem to just get the notification. battery life is amazing. I used to have to charge my phone after only 6 hours, even with light use. Now I dont need a charger until the end of the day, even with moderate to heavy use. I even use it as my wifi at home for xbox and whatnot. Touchpal's hardware prediction is pretty cool, although I havent really noticed much key skipping without it. I'm still new at rooting, so I don't do too much with oc and such.
I get about twice the battery life using RandomROMs hawk v4 vs any of the ec05 builds. Haven't experienced any TV's yet and only one random reboot after running the v6 script.

Long story short, I got a new epic because I broke the screen on my old one. I was running srf 1.2 and genocide 1.1. I liked how you could putg themes and custome programs on, also getting rid of bloat ware. But I did not see that much of an improvemet as far as performancee goes. The 3g speed I think was actually a little slower on my old one and it did not seem to load anything that much faster. So I don't know if I want to do it all over again.
So people convince me why I should.
No one can convince you. Either you do, or you dont. But, lets put it this way. I stayed stock for 6 months, 5 on DI18, and one one EC05. Ever since I rooted and started flashing themes and mods, I could never go back to stock.

Root, sure. Look at all the things you can do once you root and install CWM, like backup and restore, adblock, delete system apps, etc. And it only takes a few minutes.
Rom, nah;
I keep trying other roms but I always end up back at stock. Nothing is as rock solid reliable as the stock roms, and unless you can live with some stuff not working or you want to constantly tinker I haven't found anything I like better than stock.
Now when CM7 is finished ask me again.
Stock has limitations and battery drag......drove me nuts......Thanks to XDA and SDX....that has changed my life!! Right now CM7.1 Kang running around 3200 tweaked, and just updated new fixes. There is so Much you can do with Gingerbread around the Corner we are going to see much more. Thanks to developers and our comments/suggestions.
Sooooo.....like Duhhhh...why wouldnt you want to root!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey everyone,
Just recently noticed the performance of my Epic starting to suck. When I say "performance" I'm referring to data speeds I guess. It all started about 3 weeks ago when the new Facebook update came thru. It would take over 30 secs to load my news feed (and it still does.) I also notice that my bank's app takes forever to load, my stock samsung weather widget doesn't load or refresh, and my pandora buffers 2 or 3 times during a song. This is all on the 3G setting. My 3G used to be so fast that I never switched over to 4G or wi-fi.
I am on SRF 1.2 and I live just outside of Chicago.
Is there something going on with Sprint slowing down their 3G data speeds, or should I suspect my phone? I just don't want to wipe it and reflash the rom if this is a problem on Sprint's side of things.
Thanks!
There's yur problem... still on froyo bud. Definetly get on. Gingerbread....stock Ei22 is not very good but their custom roms are very much stable. once on a good roms a custom kernel is next... Thanks for the replies and the modem! I've tried Gingerbread roms twice and neither of them compared to the performance of my trusty SRF1.2. I tried updating PRL when I first noticed an issue, but that was 3 weeks ago or more. I'll stick with my SRF 1.2 for now and try the new modem with the PRL and profile update. I don't want to blame SRF 1.2 off the bat because it doesn't go from being awesome to being garbage after a Facebook update.
On a side note, whats really the big deal with going to gingerbread? What makes it so much better than SRF 1.2?

I don't want to blame SRF 1.2 off the bat because it doesn't go from being awesome to being garbage after a Facebook update.
On a side note, whats really the big deal with going to gingerbread? What makes it so much better than SRF 1.2?

EVERYTHING in short but in more detail here I go:
Bluetooth actually works..least for me
Wifi isn't as strong but doesn't waste as much battery
Overclocking is seemles low heat if any and screen doesn't boil over...
Speed is greatly enhanced and much more noticable.
Just over all it is truly Better..... The leak gingerbread is not very reliable but the official is very stable. Trust me you'll never look back. If quadrant scores mean anything to you on Legendary 2.2 and the 2.0.8 Samurai kernel I got an astounding 4504 my highest ever

Flashed the EI22 modem, updated PRL, update Profile, turned off phone and rebooted after a minute. Everything is fast and back to the way it used to be.
Thanks again!
