Bonsai 4 user support - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I guess the thread is closed again in developement. So hoping those with issues and new insights will post here so we can support each other.

LOL, good call man. At least we can start with a clean slate.

Ha! Me too, so use to having the clock in that corner. Definitely love 4.0.1, fast and stable! Sound quality is noticeably better from Pandora.
Oh...and clutter away. Since we can't post in the development section anymore.

Bonsai 4.0.1 and vision 1.1 kernel @1.4Ghz.......awesome....do it...do it now!!!
12+ hours and rocking smooth fast and under 100°f while charging.(most of the time)
If you already know your phone can't handle 1.3-1.4Ghz, don't bother trying this.

Yeah, that's what happened with the first lockout. I think since we are down to user and contributor support, Q&A might be the best place for this.

Hey,
I'm having some issues being stuck @ the Samsung screen.
Here are the steps taken in flashing:
1. Updated to stock ota EC05
2. Root phone
3. Update CWM3 to .5
4. 3 finger reboot to allow ext4 update
5. flash rom
Where am I messing up?

I know it works best with CWM 3.0.0.6. Odin to EB13 prerooted with CWM 3.0.0.6 and then flash Bonsai, and then update the modem to ec05. Here is the link to the EB13 prerooted file:

Besides Voodoo color what can we expect to see in Bonsai 4.0.2? Using the update instead of full install I didn't see any bugs but some others did so I figure 4.0.2 will have to be a full install.

I tried ACS 1.1 for the 1.4 OC... I basically had to keep the cover off with all the battery pulls.
Now back to Bonasai 4 and just no problems.

This. And you must mean VisionKernel. Twilight Zone 1.1.0, which is included in SRF1.1.0, only goes to 1.3ghz.

Bonsai 4.0.1 is out for the general public. 4.1.0 is heading into donor beta soon.

4.1.0 beta is out for Early Access donor beta testing. Post your issues here or there.
Flash right over 4.0.x

Want to leave dk28 and go back to dk17?

There are quite a few threads about going from dk17 to dk28, but none that I could find about getting back to dk17. This can probably be resolved with a few quick links, so I'd appreciate the help if anyone can provide it. Was/is dk17 the current official release? Do I want to go dk05 and then dk17? Any help is greatly appreciated
DK17 is just a previous leak. There is no reason you'd want to be in DK17 rather than DK28.

Well I want to go back to these non-froyo based roms, as I haven't found one that I've been happy with. Battery life is half of what it was prior to froyo

DK17 is Froyo....you don't want that then if you want to return to 2.1. I agree about some of the bugs but depending on your usage you should be able to get a days worth out of your phone. You would need to return to stock using Odin.

Thanks MILcityBoi, you don't want dk17 because dk17 is even worse than dk28! Di18 is what you want, its what came with your phone stock and what we have actual source for.

For those stating there is no reason to go back to DK17, there are two reasons that I know of. Voice dialing over bluetooth works, and audio out from the Samsung docks works. In DK28, these are broken. I have not had any problems since going back to DK17, using Quantum 1.5 (from 2.1). I kept the newer modem, wiped, and flashed 1.5 over 2.1.

When I went back to Quantum 1.5, I wasn't sure if I would need to go back to the older modem or not, but it still works. Since it does work, I get whatever fixes and optimizations were made in the newer modem.

You should be able to flash that file in Odin to get back to the latest stock Eclair. Honestly, I'd stay on DK28 if I were you, but to each their own
There's plenty of threads around with Odin info, just search the forums if you need the Odin 101 course...
Just a disclaimer - there's no MD5 hashing available for this image, so if the download is corrupted for some reason you could get into some trouble. Flash at your own risk!

It isn't directly supported like it is in Froyo, although 3rd party browsers (like Dolphin Browser HD) have built in support for it.
So I could go to the dk28 modem, but keep running eclair-based roms and kernels?
Won't you still have the hard-coded gps accuracy? Or does the modem fix that on 2.1?

I'm not sure. I'm back on di18 right now, running epic experience with phoenix kernel. Switched from viperrom 4.0.2c. Much happier, far more stable, with way better battery life (as I remember). GPS accuracy improved from 2400 meters to 30, using the *#1472365# cold start setting. I want to find out if I can rock dk28 with these settings.

Issues with the Official MIUI rom

I just starting to adjust to the new feel of it. but it keeps restarting my phone over and over. once every 30 mins. even if I'm in the middle of a phone call.
I'm happy as hell i didn't miss my call for the interview i have tomorrow.
anyway to fix this issue. started happening after i had to flash the file that helps fix the FC of the SMS/MMS popup
Make sure you have wifi sleep policy set to never.

yes i did that one. im on the kernal is came with cause idk which kernal i should use.
There are two usual culprits:
1.You need to set wifi sleep policy to NEVER (as sultan of swing mentioned), or
2. incomplete wipe. You need to fully wipe data,.cache, dalvik cache before installing MIUI, especially coming from a Sense rom. Search this forum for the format-all.zip file. Flash it in recovery for the full wipe. Then flash rom.

But if I were expecting an important call, I'd switch to a rom I could trust - probably a sense rom like Fresh or MikWhatever. And I say this as MIUI fan woman
im liking the rom so far. sad part is im a sense fan. this isn't what i wanted, but after playing around with this rom for 2 hours i liked it a lot and the stuff u can do.
i already can tell this is faster than a sense rom. 1 of the games i played on the sense roms lagged a little. but i dont get as much lag in the MIUI rom.

I was so frustrated with MUIU until I changed kernals. Now it's great.
I am running Savage 1.6 CFS-HAVS-WIMAX-SBC.

I find Savage 1.6 works best for me but every Evo is different. Other people swear by Zen-Droid which only bootloops my phone. bcnice-stable (v7 or v8) is another popular kernel (laggy for me). The safest (?) one seems to be cm6-Snap 7.6 (don't use SnapTurbo) - everything seems to work this snap.
ok thank you bigmoogle. is this the one you were talking about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883455&highlight=Savage

Yep, that's the kernel. As to which to use, I am definitely NOT the person to ask. In the beginning, kernels were pretty.simple but as time went by, they've collected more and more acronyms. I use Savage 1.6 CFS HAVS. I think it has SBC because the other one is named noSBC.

[Q] What do you think of Baked Snack 2.0?

All politics aside, this seems like a great ROM.
Worth a look/see in my opinion.
Links removed.....Bonsai!
Seems slower to me than ACS Frozen even with the Kernel but its a nice ROM yea but IMO ACS is better also looks like some good kernels are about to come out ^_^
I don't like it but that's my opinion. Acs is alit better than that rom. I also have seen the arguments with the.developer and I don't know anything other that what I read but for him to be banned tells me something. I don't blame konane to be upset and he handled it very professionally. Stand up Guy.

apparently he used the genocide kernel as a base.. when he was releasing roms on the regular he always would forget the small stuff like that. and another instance he used the same install script so thats why you get the team viper logo when you install the kernel.

I haven't had the time to do the re-root yet however, I can still install the baked snack rom and the kernel will work to get me 1280. I can also re-install syndicate without a re-root. but syndicate still wont work with BS kernel.. so my root seems to still be ok..? Either way i will try and re-root with CWM 3 when i get home, try again and share my results.
as far as the Baked Snack Rom goes though It seems to been a tiny bit laggy when i compare to a few other roms out right now. Even with the 1280 overclock. The quadrant scores and smartbench scores are pretty low, however my Linpack was 17.2 mflops which is the best i have gotten. If i can just get this BS kernel to work on the syndicate rom!

Yeah, I was gonna say that maybe root is partially broken, lol.... at least when it comes to apps being granted superuser permission. When I flashed the Baked kernel over Syndicate, I couldn't do anything that required root access(including using setcpu to overclock), but re-rooting fixed that.

[Q] Stupid Me: Questions about Synergy

Well, I hope this forum will have pity on me. I've flashed countless ROM's, dinked with my EVO till my wife was blue in the face but I've got a few questions about Synergy that I just can't see to find the answers to (and yes, I've looked). So, at the risk of being flamed...
- Where do I find what release of Synergy I've currently got flashed? I thought I downloaded RC2 from the mirror, but Synergy Updater says, "running Synergy_RLS1-Supe..." I can't find any additional version information.
- Is there anything available via Synergy Updater yet? Nightlies? I've turned on Display Experimental Roms and Display All Rom Updates. All I see is "Test Synergy Update DO NOT DOWNLOAD". There is nothing else in the list.
- Where can you get nightlies?
Thanks in advance for any help.
If you have Synergy RLS-1 then you have the 'latest' version. RC = release candidate whereas RLS = release. In other words, the rom is considered a finished product. Feel free to go to the Synergy threaded read post #1 for product information and/or helpful people willing to answer your questions regarding Synergy RLS-1.

Hey folks,
Thanks for the quick replies. I do appreciate it.
I do understand that RC = Release Candidate, etc.
tropicalbrit, I just had to press the "More" field (which was actually a button) and I see that the Build Number does indeed say, "Synergy (RC2)".
So... that does bring to mind another question...
Why does the build number say RC2 in this panel but RLS1 in the Synergy updater? If I'm really running RC2, shouldn't RLS1 show up in the Synergy Updater?
And finally, dougjamal, I would love to post questions in official Synergy thread, but I'm restricted b/c I have less than 10 posts to my name in xda-developers.
Thanks again for any help you can provide.

On Synergy Updater, the title says "Synergy Updater running Synergy_RLS1-Supersonic" which doesn't mean that you are running on RLS1. It means that it has checked for updates for the latest version of Synergy.

Not to hijack the thread, but I've got a question on the same thing:
My Synergy Updater app only shows ONE theme/addon (black ring on lockscreen) and no ROMs of any kind. Is there some trick to getting it to find all the mods/addons from Myn's Synergy thread?
Also, while I downloaded and flashed the Godmode Synergy ROM, I just did a Quadrant score and hit 1333. Obviously that's significantly less than the ~2000 that Godmode supposedly provides. Anyone have any thoughts on the speed difference?

I am not using any non-standard kernel that I know of. In the past I've used things like SBC kerels for Froyo, but I don't know of anything like that for Gingerbread yet, so I haven't done anything.
I've been under the impression that the kernel gets flashed with the ROM, so I haven't touched it. Should be the stock GB kernel that comes with Synergy as far as I know.

I haven't personally tried the godmode on RLS1 yet because, to me, the quadrant score isn't worth it if the phone takes a significant amount of time to open apps and lag. I'd recommend that you switch to RLS1 without godmode if you get tired with the lag.

Actually the ROM has been pretty snappy. Most things do load up faster. I was just checking the benchmarking to see if it really was as fast as it claimed. I did a full-wipe last night (data/cache/dalvik/system/boot) and flashed the ROM and now I'm hitting around 1500 for a Quadrant score, which is still really nice.
I think a lot of what's bogging it down is old system apps/files from Titanium backup. All the red apps keep reloading back on; last night I found 3 "weather service" apps installed (ranging from 1.0000whatever to 3.000whatever).

In Synergy Updater, have you tried clicking on the icon to the right of Black Lock Ring that looks like a nail? That should bring up a list of themes/addons.
When I was running RC2+Godmode, my Quadrant scores would increase after running Quadrant a few times in succession. It would usually start around 1300, but subsequent scores would be much higher (I managed to get up to 2057).

Does anyone else find this phone to be a mess or do i just have a bad one?

My phone is always shutting itself off or randomly rebooting. The most it has ever gone without a reboot is 3 days and lately thats a stretch. I am running phantom hackers blazer rom. Is this just something that you go through when rooted? I love this phone but i hate goin to use it and see that its off. Sometimes i consider getting rid of this thing and goin with an iphone because of how stable they are. My bro has an iphone and it is pure rock solid!

I can go Weeks without a reboot. Running try the ROM in my sig. Make sure you do a clean install, using the flash all script. Don't use TB until you are stable. After that you will be golden.

So you think its the rom and not my phone? I will say it never rebooted before i rooted it. I do LOVE this phone and would hate to get rid of it i just get soo mad when it reboots. Not something you should expect from a 500+ dollar device..

Yes, I think it is software related. Only time I ever get a random reboot is from something software related being off. Could be ROM, kernel, theme, just about any thing. That's why you want to start fresh. Caulks ROM is dead solid stable.

rbtrucking -- are you undervolted? The only time I've had any stability/reboot problems with this phone were when I was a little too aggressive with the undervolt (or overclocked to 1.7ghz ). I'm on calk's 2.8.1 with steadyhawkin's gunslinger kernel btw.
Phones the most reliable I've ever had now that the los is gone. I undervolt mine considerably. I have 3 other friends with thus phone 2 of them not rooted. The stocks have more issues then rooted ones I swear with reboot hot reboots freezing..getting sticky on transitions . Each phone just handles each Rom a lily different....YMMV

Nope I am not undervolting or overclocking at all. I leave the cpu settings alone as I find the phone to be plenty fast and overclocking can drastically decrease the life of a cpu especially without proper cooling. I have heard nothing but amazing things about calkulins roms though maybe I will give it a try. Anyone else having any issues like mine on Phantom Hackers Blazer rom?
If you flash back to stock and it still does it its ur sd card.

Ya I actually already had an sd card go bad on me and had to remove it because my phone would literally reboot every 10 minutes and sometimes I would have to pull the battery out for a little while to get it to go back on. The sd card was really really old though, came with my original evo. Since removing the sd card the reboots are allot less frequent but they still do occur but usually no more than once a day sometimes every couple days.
In 3 months I had one reboot...

Well all I can say is I flashed calkulins rom with the pure honey theme and this **** is HOT!! I really never knew using titanium backup that you dont lose ANYTHING! For some reason I always thought it just backs up apps! Had I known this I would have been flashing new roms allot more frequently though I love this one soo much I will definitely be sticking with it for some time. Lets just hope it runs stable on my phone! So far no complaints but it has only been about 10 minutes! Thank you for recommending this rom!

Damn touch recovery huh? That sounds awesome! Do you by any chance know how to change lockscreens with calkulins rom? Right now I am using the draw pattern to unlock but I might want to switch to the stock epic 4g touch lockscreen.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for!
Since day one my phone reboots on average 2 times a day and overheats and/or shuts off at least once a wk. For me, it's not software related as I have tried every rom.
Today it just started a new thing where it will boot up (go through the animation) and then the screen will go dark to where I can't do anything. Right before it goes dark, the animation will freeze. I am able to get into the recovery though, and have wiped the cache and dalvik.

Yes this person is right I had a fault sd card in my phone and it caused behavior very much like you are describing. Reboots at least once a day sometimes about 10 times a day and all kinds of bad behaviors!
