Im looking for a stock rom with no changes to it that allows me to keep root. I Looked through all the older threads in development but it seems there have been updates and such. Right now I am running CM 6.1 and it seem my batt is dying way faster then it did on a stock rom. I'd like to compare them and such. If anyone has one or can point me in the right direction i'd be happy! Thank you!

Yes, I am experiencing higher drain as well. Search the development section for cr_mod, look for the CR_Mod OTA 1.35.something. It's the rooted stock ROM with a wireless tether built in, OTA update and all. That's what your looking for. I flashed dumfuq's OC 4.0 kernel over the stock ROM and got better battery life than the stock HTC kernel, so I also recommend doing that. I'm on cm6.1 stable now, so I can easily modify themes, since it's AOSP based, and also so I can use the gingerbread latin_IME keyboard, since you need at least froyo to do that.

Hey thanks! I went back for about 8 hours and hated it. Im back on CM 6.1 and im getting terrible battery life still. IDK, I am going to try and reformat my SD card and reflash at a full battary etc. I migh ttry the kernel, but, I really don't want any OC of any kind, just maybe a lower standby setting, something in the range of 50mhz while the screen is off or something.

I cant see how formating an sd card could help. Anywho, cm 6.1 has the oc kernal already built into it. You dont need to flash any kernals, just use setcpu to adjust the speed.

50 MHz is too low. 245 is the lowest option

I said try flashing dumfuq 4.0 over it because I THINK, not positive, but I was speculating that cyanogen had modified the kernel slightly that was causing a battery drain issue, because I stopped having so many issues with it when I flashed dumfuq's 4.0 kernel over it. Sounds weird, but it helped. I still have an occasional glitch where something is holding a wakelock on the system and it won't go to sleep, which is really annoying, and I think I traced it back to the music app, but still not sure there. I've been off of the charger for over an hour, with just 11 minutes of screen on and screen is 71% of the usage while cell standby is 11%, that's what makes me think flashing dumfuqs 4.0 fixed it. Cyanogen must've made a modification.
So, also @ the OP, go into spare parts battery history and see what is using it. If "running" is up above like 30 or 50% then you have something holding a wakelock, go to partial wake usage, and look at the app or UID that's got the wakelock. Rebooting normally gets rid of the lock for me, like I said, haven't quite figured it out yet.

Ok,I'm new to Android, fresh out of Windows Mobile and might not know what I'm talking about, so... here we go,
I'm looking for my dream ROM, and kernel combination
Is there a ROM out there that has:
Delicious Froyo
4G Enabled
Can use Bluetooth controllers - (Wiimote, MSI BGP 100) [I guess that means it'd have to be Senseless?]
Retains its HDMI out functionality
Uncapped FPS
Over 2 multi touch points
Stability - Doesn't crash often
Decent Battery Life - (More than 5 Hours)
Swype Keyboard
802.11N Wireless Support Enabled
Overclocking support would be nice, but probably not necessary
I'm currently running Fresh Rom, but its starting to seriously lag after a few weeks of use, I guess its because of all the apps and widget mods I installed. And stupid Sense keeps starting up when I start my phone, even though launcher pro is my default home.
So I'm ready to flash another rom to have a clean start, now that I kinda know what I want.
There isn't a ROM with all of that
Looks to me like most (if not all) of the things you want to do can be done on Fresh. If it's lagging, wipe the caches using Amon and see if that speeds things up. I ran Fresh for a long while with no issues. For the past 3 days, I've been trying out the latest Baked Snack rom, and it's very good, too. The only thing I'm not sure about is the multi-touch feature because I haven't come across the need for it yet. I recommend you do the same thing I'm doing and everyone else does: Download them, flash them, keep them for a few days, and then try another rom. You'll be able to eliminate the ones you don't care for and then narrow down your choices. Do a search for multi-touch and see which roms have fixes for it, and try those out first.
or at least ava froyo v7, thats got everything working for me and use a kingsxkernel
I believe most of those are functional on most of the ROMs now. As far as swype keyboard, I think calkulins ROM (evio2) has that natively, or there's a new ROM someone else was working on that I think had swype listed, it was called echo5 ROM, I think. It's not on the first page, it was on the 2nd page last time I saw it.
The fps, overclocking, and >2pt multitouch are all functions of the kernel, I believe. And the 2 main kernel devs (kingx, and netarchy) support those functions in their kernels, which will flash on most any custom ROM
(I'm fairly new, from winmo, too. I was reluctant and apprehensive for awhile, but really starting to like Android, not to mention most the great devs from winmo are drifting to Android, or already have. Xda has made the transition that much easier)

Like stated, any Rom can be anything. You can flash almost any kernel with any ROM..You can start with the stock ROM and flash what you want to get what you want...very customizable compared to WinMo.
That being said, I'm running Calkulin's EViO and love it. I can get almost 10th hours with heavy, heavy usage. With multitouch visualizer from the market, I can see 4 touch points. The phone is overlooked and fast as veal...never laggy. 4G works just fine. Lastly, the latest version has sense as an add-on, so no worries about it starting.
And, I have swype as an .apk if u want it.

Thanks for the quick replies peoples, I went and wiped both cache, and the dalvik cache... even though I have no idea what the dalvik is, I'm using Anon Ra btw.
Calkulens Rom and a kings kernel sound like what I'm looking for, but what about the Bluetooth I know that sense based roms have corrupted Bluetooth settings, so no gamepad, are calkulins roms senseless? And work with wiimotes?
Sent from my HTC EVO
VaelPak is the greatest. Just doesn't support bluetooth controllers but may be in an update soon
Swyped from my VaelPaked Evo 4G
Um no you can't flash kernels on most roms. They are either for sense roms or asop (senseless roms..cm6) you have to read the kernel thread... and swype you can install on any rom just search and you will find out the apk. For it. 4g doesn't work on cm6 so that's out the question then...
Most kernels are set to 1.19 to 1.22 top overclock.. setcpu is a paid app to over/underclock.. battery life there are a lot of things that causes bad battery. Bad reception, screen brightness, a app that keeps your phone awake, the settings of your CPU...etc...

10hrs of heavy use? Please explain heavy heavy use because I get 4 tops even with the battery trick.. btw I use a wall charger not the phone. I have tried about every rom including yours and what I call heavy heavy usage is non-stop on phone. I can be on here on full battery, txt and do research on phone and get only 4 tops. Even with underclock.. you use wifi during heavy usage? Stock battery?
Just don't believe 10 hours heavy usage...

When you overclock your CPU is running faster than normal which in turn needs more juice... kind of goes hand in hand...
Yeah that should be fine. If I'm correct its a sense rom. When you look at a kernel you usually read what it has implemented and what your looking for in a kernel. They tell you which one its made for. Just was letting you know..
Also always do a nand backup in case of loops or anything goes wrong..

Don't get me wrong, I love Myn's ROM and this thread is in no way a "lets derail Myn from his glory thread."
For one, my android system is running at 96% and I have absolutely no idea why. I flashed Calkulins new radio pack about 3 weeks ago along with his ROM and had no problems at all. I then switched to MIUI for awhile while I was waiting for RLS 5 to come out and since flashing RLS 5 I have had this problem and can't get rid of it. It doesn't matter what kernel I use, I still have upwards of 90% android system usage of the battery. I would like to figure this out or I may have to switch roms.
Another thing,
For some reason, after I just recently flashed to Myns RLS 5 Pandora sounds like it is playing out of a tin can. I have the higher quality settings turned on and it still sounds like crap, way worse than it did on any previous ROM. I'm wondering how I can fix this?
These problems are really starting to irritate me and I would very much love it if someone would help me out here.
Thanks

i've heard that flashing the entire update (radios, wimax, pri, nv)
causes the uptime on a lot of roms. i think your best bet would be flash the 1.77 PRI in calkulins thread. ive kept 1.77 pri and NV and my phone is just fine running myns RLS5 right now as a matter of fact. good luck hope this helps man.

Im not having any up time issues. My phone sleeps just fine, its the android system that is taking up over 90% + or my batery usage and its made my battery life crap.
Hmm...that's odd...I flashed the rom via Rom Manager, did a few optional updates with it, and the only thing I had to do was flash the 132 radio, my phone great, no FC, nothing.....Hell, I should take this phone into the local sprint store to show them how the SHOULD RUN!
hmmm well this is my solution and it come straight from netarchy in his thread
Code:

and ultimately thats really what it sounds like man, flash a different kernal if you really feel the need to do something besides a PRI downgrade, but i firmly believe that myns RLS5 is just fine.
try downgrading the PRI and NV then post back worse case scenario you have to upgrade again and that takes a whopping 5 minutes

My big thing is that my phone is sleeping just fine. If you look at the second post and click on the link you will see screen shots of my up time and awake time which is like:
up time is like 46 hrs or some **** and awake time is like 6 hrs. So my problem is that the "Android System" is taking up 90% + of my battery use. I generally get a little over a day of lite to moderate use out of my battery but since I flashed rls5 its only been like 7 - 12 hrs(not that I am complaining) but I would just like to figure this out. Also some thing else I noticed was that in the spare parts app under network usage the top selection is "0" and when I click on it it just says "process com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly. and please try again?
could this be related to the gingerbread menu upgrade? I have that flashed. Do you or have you ever?

i read your post, have you tried downgrading yet. im almost guaranteeing it will improve battery life the new 1.90 updates dont play well with a lot of roms causing ridiculous battery drain. now regardless if it shows its from the android system/networking problem or not im not knowledgeable enough to answer that, but my android system runs at 19% running myns rls5 and the 1.77 PRI and NV updates just saying..you might really want to consider just TRYING it ya know?

I love the SBC kernels and have read almost every post about them frying batterys. So I ordered a 3500 and am waiting for it to get here and then I will switch kernels. What is the stock kernel that is running with rls5? HTC kernel 15? Thanks for doing the testing. I have 4 kids and got pulled away for awhile. I think I am going to flash the stock kernel for rls5. Do you think I should still downgrade my PRI? I also hit the thanks button. I really appreciate the time you took to figure this out!
Let me just chime in here to shed a little light and knowledge.
Your problem is 3.70 base Rom. It's not a sleep issue. Probably won't be solved by changing kernels. Doesn't look like bad battery life since the phone had not been charged for 42 hours, that's almost 2 days.
If you ask me you have what most ppl are looking to get, which is a full day of use and more. Now correct me if I am wrong but how is going 2 days with out charging a bad thing???
The android system high %'s is a 3.70 issue which has affected a lot of ppl on the forum. The issue has several remedies but the easiest is to just reboot directly after charging the phone. Some ppl have said changing the pri back to 1.77 solved the issue, others have said updating their radio solved the issue.
Please give me a little bit more information so I can research more in depth for you...
Edit: Also let me state the facts here, please don't discredit someone else's work by saying a certain kernel,Rom, theme or recovery will damage a device. The sbc was a variable in ppl batteries being damaged and no one has proven that the kernel has indeed damaged their phone. Only here say...
I don't know if sbc is good or bad as the team I am working with are still in the testing stages with no clear answer, which probably won't come for months.

If you see my signature then you know what I am running.

There is definately a problem with the rom released 1-7-11.
It will not allow installation of google usb tether program and the file explorer always seems to be working (spinning graphic). I do not think the previous rom had this problem but I can not be sure. Tried other non myn roms w/o problem, retried myn's and reconfirmed that there is a problem.
It seems that he changed a few things and had some sort of side effect.
Somebody should try running ps, ps -aux or top from a bash terminal to see what is really running. A look at the error log would not hurt either.
Interesting that you couldn't install that. I'm not sure why. The spinning I believe you are referring to is where ads would be. Myn added adblock to the role rls5. Most apps with ads (astro, xda, alchemy, etc) will display the loading circle instead. You can remove adblock. Just search the threads.

Have you tried the reboot right after charging? Also I read some where to go into airplane mode and then turn everything back on. Also when all else fail, not sure how you got to myn's but for the sake of safety do a fresh install of it with a wipe on everything. May also want to try caulk's format all zip.
Try the reboot then see, if that fails fresh install and then see.. let me know each time...

I had the horrid battery life after upgrading to Myn's latest and the treo update radio pack. Downgrading my PRI didn't fix it. It was the kernel. I was having random browser fc also.
Went back to HTC #17 kernel and all is well. Try swapping just your kernel.
i just switched from the epic 4g to the evo (tried for 30 days, but the pentile matrix was a deal breaker). I flashed myn's rom. and netarchy's latest stable kernel. 4.3.1 -conservative, screen off profile too.
is it supposed to be this slow? I had to remove all the animations just to bear.
is it supposed to be so choppy?
why can't websites load quick enough? is it the flash?
the text is so blurry, is there a sharper font?
the battery? wtf. if i put it to sleep, it's ok. but with the screen on (relatively light to medium use) it won't last the day.
how do i watch videos?
am i missing somethings?

I dont know what you're talking about. I'm running the plain myn with the kernel he provides and it's fast as hell and stable. Maybe the kernel u installed is causing problems.
Try doing a full wipe and reflashing with whatever he provides.
As far as the internet goes, there is a problem with the hosts file that myn has in rls5. Download ad-free from the market, click Revert, then download the newest host files. That will fix your slow internet.
Sounds like something is jacked with your flash of the rom. Did you download rls5? What radios do you have? RLS5 is blazing fast.

i actually did try that, but the battery was draining more that i liked. it probably was something that i did. I will try trouble-shooting later. Thanks alot though.
Sounds like somethin in your setup is acting up...
I've tried 3 different ROMs (CM6 currently) and havent ever had "bad" battery life... and I do use my phone, have email/FB/wether updating hourly and I check other Email, news, etc all the time... watch a video here and there.... My battery never lasts less than a day...
I'd say just wipe everything and try another ROM/kernel... hopefully that'll help
Just like everyone says wipe your cache & Dalvik. Matter fact do like i do if your running clockwork wipe it 2x or 3x's. Get Rom Manager and and update your clockwork to the latest 3.0.0.2 <<--i think thats it.
Wipe and re flash should solve your problem. I run Myns Rls5 and its flawless...
I was only on Myn for a day, but I didn't have any problems with it. I set up my friends on it though and he's been using it for the past few weeks with no speed or lag issues.
I have had the problems you describe on a few different ROMs if I'm using a kernel that doesn't play well with the phone/ROM. I would play with different kernels until you get a setup that works.
Hope that helps.
If your using Set CPU make sure is not throttled way down because this will lag and freeze your phone up. Kernel is probably making things worse as well.

I'll confirm this. I got rid of set cpu all together. battery life is just fine. get to about 10-15% by the time i charge at night.
I just want to say that compared to the Epic the EVO screen is crap. You are going to have to deal with that. It will never be as good of a picture. As for battery life this is a known issue. Battery life on the Evo is terrible. There are certain tweaks and settings that will work to where you can get the whole day out of your phone. Just try different kernels, settings and what not until you figure out what works for your phone. Believe it or not all Evo's are a little different and what works for one may not work for yours. May I also suggest purchasing an extended battery. You can find cheap ones on ebay for around $10. These will give you better battery life. Enjoy the Evo bro and don't worry you will find out what works best for your phone. Just come here and read everyday and try new things and sooner or later you will be rocking the Evo just the way you want it.
Hi,
I have played with my Gnex for the Past 4 months (Released Dec 8th in Canada). I have installed many mods, kernels, ROMS (Currently on AOKP MS3 and Francko Kernel MS1). I love the utilities provided by these custom apps, but I keep having stability problems from time to time and its getting a little bit disapoint.
* My Juice Def apps gets killed and settings are reset.
* I only see 50% of the pic when people call me.
* Volume is at max, but cant hear my music because of ambiant noise (to tell yuo hoe low the volume becomes)
* I Dont know how to use he Undervolting and Overvolting of the CPUS, and I dont realy care (Too technical for me)
* Whatever ROM is used, it still sucks my battery. Juice Defender is very good at doubling my battery life.
These are some reasons that I might bo back to STOCK KERNEL and ICS.
For those of you who returned to STOCK, Did you miss all the tweaks ROMS and Kernel gives you? Do you notice a different in speed?
Thanks.
Sounds like you're overall not happy with your experience.
If all of these cool tweaks are making it so you can't regularly use the phone like you like it, just return to stock. Its not worth sacrificing your enjoyment of the phone just to get some cool tweaks.
Problem is.. I dont really remember how its to run a stock phone. :S
same here..i also would like to go back to stock..

Then do it! No one's stopping you. There is no shame in returning to stock lol. Its okay.
I want back to stock for a day and changed my mind.... main reason that I don't like the stock is lack of toggles and overall smoothness. Oooo and you have no idea how often I use search icon on navbar . Also this is my main way of communicating with people. Voice actions are brill testing and calling is very easy with this. Someone will say that I can do that from search bar .... yes but 9 out of 10 times I'll miss tapping the icon ....

Did I return to stock? Well, after successfully compiling my first ROM (AOSP 4.0.3) I found out that my backups were deleted so I had to reflash some stock images from Google. I'm having enough fun playing with the phone on my own...I can be patient to see what improvements other ROMs come up with.

I am running AOKP MS3 and have been flashing the latest Franco kernel. I had the same issues as you and a full wipe and reflash solved all of those issues. Hope this helps you!

1. I use juice defender too and I NEVER saw it getting killed. The settings do reset everytime you flash something even if you don't wipe cache but that's the developer's problem no the roms/kernels. The solution is simple : just backup your settings from JD's status tab and restore it after you flash zips in recovery.
2. Well known issue with m3. there was a fix zip floating around but you should just update. m3 is not anymore stable than the newer aokp builds. b26/27 are very stable but just wait a few days and m4 will be out for sure.
3. I'm not sure what you mean by that. Are you saying you can't hear the music at 100% volume? Does it go away with stock kernel? then it might be franco's volume hack. Try leankernel 2.4 if you want something lean, fast, with GREAT battery life and without all the extra bells and whistles. you need to go to rootzwiki.com to dl leankernel.
4. You don't need to undervolt with gnexus and even if you do, it's completely pointless. It causes instability and the battery savings are negligible.
5. Wipe data and cache and flash leankernel 2.4 and aokp b26 (or m4 when it comes out). You'll lose all your settings but I think this combination will keep you happy for along time.
6. I used JD Ultimate for a long time and after a lot of testing on leankernel 2.4, I find it completely redundant.
I'm back to stock (stock launcher too).
It's because I've never had any real problem with stock in the first place. No battery drain, no dropped calls, no sluggish interface and everything works. Then the most important thing is I LOVE the simplicity feel that stock offers so I've decided to go back to stock.
Nothing against custom ROMs.
This is why after you root its always good to Nandroid your stock rom.
The only thing i like about stock is that i know its not going to fail me and i know i dont have to always mess around with tweaks and other things.. it just does what it was meant to do..
Custom roms seems to always have problems with different kernels or maybe the ROM is just in beta.. or a tweak is causing something else to break..
But we also have some good custom roms base off of stock with nothing too much added.. like Android Revolatuion.. No diss towards other roms tho.. just people dont want to always have to change or fix something

It all comes down to personal choices really.
To me i tried AOKP rom with Franco kernel and it really rocked. But then i went back to stock since 4.0.2 with XXKK6 gives me good battery life and its rock stable.. no issues. i do have to give up a lot of customizations but i can live with it. no problem.
The reason i don't want to install custom roms yet is that i would go crazy with flashing roms and it would be addicting so right now i just want to stay away..i would get bored after trying all new roms.. so right now STOCK.. just want to savour the beautiful Galaxy Nexus as is.
I went back to stock on Sunday. I was checking to see if wallet would work on stock but it didn't. When it booted up stock the first time I was like:

When I got my phone it was stock for about 5 minutes. AOKP FTW!
Confused. You can run ROMs with the stock kernel. IMHO, stock kernel> any custom kernel. My experience, custom kernels create different problems.
Kernel enthusiasts tend to be a little... too enthusiastic. They tend to ignore the problems and measurebate about supposed battery life or performance.
My best combination is AOKP ROM for the features and stock kernel with a couple performance tweaks in the developer settings.
Now I just go about using my phone to enhance my life rather than the other way round.
YMMV, and it is your life, of course.

I agree 100%.
I never had any issue with AOKP. But I use stock kernel. Custom kernels are for those who can live with a phone not working 100 % and alarm clock fail to ring in the morning. If you want the best of the best for the Gnex, flash AOKP, and nothing else. And don't mess with performance settings.
And btw. The only ROM that ever randomly rebooted on me, was stock ROM. How is that for a laugh?
Stop using Juice Defender. It sucks or it has some serious bugs on Nexus I don't know. Stock everything I had juice defender on and strange things were happening. Touching screen would do nothing, apps would close on their own. When I took it off everything was fine again. Juice defender was recommended to me by someone else. So oh well, seems he was luckier than me running it. Fast forward a week, I got interested in ROM's, now running AOKP with Fugumod kernel and thought hmm maybe give juice defender another shot. Within 1 day I removed it. AGAIN, apps crashing, touches not being recognized, slowness switching screens. I say Juice defender stinks or has lots of bugs. My battery life is just fine with AOKP and Fugumod. Right now my Nexus is perfection. I can quickly get in and out of apps and there is no slowness or anything. I can't see myself ever going back to stock.
I'm running stock 4.0.4 with no issues.

I'm debating going back to stock.
Came from 4.0.2 stock to AOKP 1-30 milestone + franco.
The new ROM is nice and all, but like every 15-30m I get randomly disconnected from the network and takes 15s to reconnect. It's semi-tolerable but I hate things like this.
why was music app missing from AOKP rom Milestone 3? who do you get it back?
Just wondering what the best kernel is to flash to the stock UCLJ3 rom?
I'm suffering crazy battery drain since updating. I've done a ton of things including a full wipe and reflash, and it's still happening.
Only thing I havent tried, or done before is flash a kernel...
Any recommendations?

Haven't had any trouble with the battery drain using IcePop rom! but of course flashing any new rom, you have to let it settle for 1 to 2 days / charge cycles for the os to stabilize!
I've been running it since day of release.... Using battery apps all reports that the Android OS using a heavy % and/or the phone isnt always going into deep sleep.
And its happening even before I put a google account on or install any apps.
I suppose I could go back to G9 or the H2 release... might do it as a test, to see if it really is the J3 release thats causing me problems.

Which kernel are your running? Also check to see what your cpu governor is set to! Use system tuner from the market

Just the default I think... I dont believe I've done anything more than flash an entire ROM, and mostly rooted stocks.
Gonna give that app a try though, thanks for the tip.
