I tried that, and got message that the software was too big to update via mobile network, and to use Zune. (yes, I enabled WiFi and tried that way, but kept getting too big message, and if I shut phone off and used Wifi only, I got message that I wasn't connected so it couldn't be updated) So after those messages, just plug your phone into computer, wait for Zune to start up. If you check your games/software, you will see the status bar of it being updated.

How to get apps bac after reset

Is there a way to get my paid apps back after a reset without paying for the apps again?
provided you're logged into the same account you performed the purchase on, merely just go and download the app again. it won't cost you anything to download it after you've paid for it.
hint: use zune to load the application onto your phone, this way if you reset your phone, then connect it back to zune, it will reinstall all your apps automatically for you.

Are the zune servers down? I cant even sign in...it says it cant access the server.
I bought my focus last monday, switched to my moto razr today so i called att and they changed the IMEI on my acct to the one for the razr. Decided to not sell my Focus so I called att and changed they changed the IMEI back. Had to give them IMEI so because of data plan changes for smartphone and non smartphone. Anyways, after doing that I cant download anything from marketplace or stream music from zune marketplace.
So am I royally effed or is there somethign I can do?

Connect your WP7 phone to your computer.. then you can download the apps using the computer and they install directly on the phone.

can you browse the net with your phone? as in it is just zune that isn't working? if it's just zune on the phone, try zune on the desktop. if they're both down, then it's presumably the zune service which is down or something. give it a bit of time, sleep on it, and then see if it works?
Zune was down earlier on the desktop. Windows Live (as a whole) had some authentication issues. Hotmail was down earlier in the day for me.
I made the mistake of not installing all my apps through the desktop software. What's most maddening is that after a hard reset, you CAN'T re-install the apps with the Zune software. You can only do it through the phone. Completely idiotic.
hard reset
I had problems with marketplace and email,...I hard reset the phone, hooked it back up to the computer, and the zune software automatically reinstalled most of the software that was on the phone, without my knowing it.

Well indeed...... And it would be nice to be able to do it ON THE PHONE only.
And now you can't even install those apps again without internet connection...
Hi,
I guess you just need to reinstall these apps from the market place. Here is the guide that i came across...hxxp://aliwaqas.info/how-to-reinstall-paid-apps-without-paying-on-windows-phone-7-devices

[Q] Apps Installed thru Zune Missing?

Hey all! the other day I had my phone connected to my PC via usb, and install 3 free apps back to back (BAM BAM BAM) thru Zune. Then properly disconnect the usb connection to the phone, an then went a looking for the three apps. Only the first one installed appears in the app list, the 2nd and the 3rd apps are missing. Tried to reinstall thru Zune, and it states already installed to reinstall got to MP on your phone to reinstall. When I go to MP thru the phone and find these missing apps their is no option to install or reinstall it just has a button to share? When I go to my account on Zune under App history it shows all 3 were installed?
So at this point I can't use or install these apps on my phone because both Zune and the phone basically state they are already on the phone but they are not.
I've tried everything from having Zune forget the phone (Focus) to searching Xda for 2 days..surprising no one has had this problem before. At any rate any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to prevent a hard reset if possible, but will do if I have to. Best install apps thru Zune one at a time!!!
thx,
Steve

if u are installing games they will directly go to the XBOX games folder or shortcut whatever u call them... if u are installing apps and they are not on the phone i have no clue why..
Yea like the user above^. If the other two Apps are Games they might be in the Xbox LIve Hub. Check it. If not then call MS for help.
or the apps are tagged wrong and are in games by mistake. Had this happen with a timer app.
Wow thar they blow! Sure-nuff sitting in the XBOX game folder even though one is not a game...wooow. Thanks truffle1234 and to all! Didn't think to go there and page down to see the new games installed (neurons miss firing) Thanks again!

App updates available, but market says otherwise

Just checked on the marketplace that there are updates available for a few app that I use. IM+(1.7) and AccuWeather(2.1). But I didn't get any update notification on the tile and even when I open the app on the marketplace the only button that appears is 'share'. There's no update button.
P.S I have 1.6 and 2.0 version respectively.

When viewing the app in the marketplace (where it says share), hit the back button and tap the app again. It will then show "update". Alternatively you can hit share and then the back button. Result is the same.
thanks that worked. but isnt the marketplace suppose to inform me that an update is available? i cant manually keep on checking all apps frequently :/
I'm pretty sure it will if you give it some time. It doesn't seem like its immediate. Were the app updates very recent?
I find that I normally have updates in the morning when I wake up. I leave my phone plugged into the wall and connected to wifi over night.

It does but isn't fast about it. The tile notification seems to lag far behind the actual update. Mine usually lets me know when I have updates because I leave the market alone long enough for the notification sync to happen.
What I don't like about updating is that there's nothing to tell you if the app now requires access to more stuff, like owner ID. There should be

Zune can't connect to my phone on Windows 8

Hi,
I've just installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview and then installed Zune.
Now, when I plug my phone Zune says:
CONNECTION ERROR
Can't connect to your phone. Disconnect it, restart it, then try connecting again.
I tried these solutions but with no luck: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...ur-phone/a114fabb-c1df-4204-9520-eb76ff40660d
I have an Omnia 7 with mi7ROM.
Thanks in advance
Revert back to Windows 7
I heard somewhere that you have to install the whole Zune package manually and that it's a pain to do so, I will look it up and post it as soon as I can find it.
I have just done a fresh install of Windows 8 CP, everything is working lovely and smooth except Zune for Windows Phone. I have installed Zune but every time I attach my phone I get the error that it "Can't connect to your phone. Disconnect it, restart it, then try connecting again".
I have tried this multiple times, also I have reinstalled Zune, searched Microsoft support (there are a number of people with the same error in Windows 7, but the certificates that Microsoft talk about don't exist on this installation).
I had no problem with it in the DP.

I just remembered that Windows 8 is going to do away with Zune, this might have something to do with it.

Known problem. Sorry if already posted. Had same thing. Has to do with leap day. Ms acknowledged problem. Happens on win7 as well if you do a fresh or new phone connection to Zune. Put system a day forward to March 1 and it will work. You can the revert back to current date.
Hello All,
We're currently having success in resolving this issue by altering the date on a PC to March 1st, 2012.
Once the date has been changed, close the Zune Software and disconnect the Phone, then go ahead and reconnect the Phone and the Zune Software should start automatically. If not, go ahead and start the Zune Software as normal.
Ideally, the Phone should be detected and you may have to go through the process of naming the Phone and checking for updates again.
Right now, this is just a workaround, however.
Kind Regards,
Matthew N.

Well, I got my HTC titan yesterday and have this connection issue.. I spent almost 9 straight hrs searching thru the web and tried all possible solutions.. Even those that seems ridiculous... None worked...tried fresh install of zune, different computers, reset my phone countless times... Worst is that the delete cert method cause my omnia 7 to stop working altogether.. Darn!.. Gave up and went to bed after midnight a sad sad man..
Interestingly, this morning, everything work!! Coincidentally, todays 1st march...
Not sure what happened, made me think that it could be Zune need to settle for a while.. But, I am a happy man today!
Mine is working relatively well, for the most part. Zune seems to detect it just fine until my phone goes to the lock screen, at which point I have to unplug and reconnect it. Aside from the it seems to work perfectly.
Now, the Windows Phone Emulator doesn't work at all.
I had same issue, HTC Titan. And I did all, reinstall, reset etc Zune and Phone. But after reflash my phone with firmware:"You can find HTC Titan, firmwares in HTC Titan Section." all worked.

Lots of people had this issue (me included) seemed to have something to do with leap day bug when installing drivers or something. Should be fine today
Now it works fine!
Thank you

Supposedly they are trying to come up with a new Music Player that goes across all Windows devices and they are actually thinking about doing away with Zune, I know that apps will now be available via a app store kind of like on Android instead of Zune.

Successful ROM Update via the Zune 'Disconnect" method

Hi Guys,
I followed the guy as follows(Repeated 3 Times) and has successfully updated the my Lumia 900 ROM to 7.10.8779.8 -> 7.10.8783.12 .. and then again to 7.10.8858.136 ..
wmpoweruser.com/windows-phone-7-8-update-now-on-zune-regardless-of-carrier-and-model/
Internet Disconnect trick (REALLY WORKS!!!)
1- Turn off cellular data, and Wifi on your Lumia 900 or WP device(see below).
2- Connect to Zune, check for updates and time yourself by counting "1-1000, 2-1000,etc". Stop counting when it says your phone is up to date and remember it.
3- Change to a different tab other than update in the settings.
4- Disconnect phone, then reconnect it.
6- Now, get ready. You will need to hit the “Update” button and unplug (Or disable your NIC card in Network and sharing center) the network cable from your computer at about minus 1-1000 (if you counted to 8-1000 for update check, then disconnect at 7-1000) after hitting this button. It will present an update is available!
7- Remember to reconnect internet, then hit Update!
8- Now update!
There will be three updates.
First Update will be some fixes to app purchasing and marketplace.
Second Update will be some fixes to WP and support for phones without camera hardware button.
Third Update will be the main WP7.8 update itself.
Thank you for the step by step instructions. I was able to update my Nokia Rogers phone on TELUS network after several tries but was the effort. My recommendation is to use ethernet cable.
So much nicer.
Confirmed that this worked for both my AT&T Lumia 900 and LG C900. I was able to update both to 7.8.
Confirmed that this worked for both my AT&T Lumia 900
It took me around 100 tries but it works on my Omnia 7
Made it work, at last. Timing the disconnection from the internet is VERY important.
Took me quite some time to find the perfect timing...
It took about two dozen tries but I got it to work. What I didnt realize was that I would have to do it again to get the subsequent updates. I only had two windows phone updates before getting to 7.10.8858.136 update.
There was also a Nokia update after I got the two windows updates.
Finally, when all was said and done I could not text nor use the internet despite showing an LTE connection at the top left corner. I turned on Wifi and was able to use online services and text. I turned it back off and it continuted to work so not sure what that was about.
Worked for me... Thanks!
worked for me and I also updated my HD7 to 7-8,,,
Still not working for me if I connect to Zune with my phones Wifi and Celluar data offf I get an error from Zune saying it can't check for updates.
Not sure how or why this works.....but it worked like a charm for me. It took about 4 tries the first time, but after that I had no problems. Updated and definitely liking 7.8 on first impression.
I'm still kind of ticked about not being able to get 8 on a phone I've only owned for a few months....but it works well, so I suppose I can put up with it until my contract expires or I decide just to buy something new.

As I mentioned earlier, timing the disconnection is very crucial. For example, I used my laptop with a netstick (USB cellular modem).
The client which connects the netstick to the internet shows the data usage. I noticed that when searching for updates with Zune, the data usage steadily grows until in about 8 seconds since I started looking for updates with Zune - the action reaches to a usage of about 650Kbps and then quickly declines to 0kbps.
I found out, that after a second the connection speed declines (e.g., goes below 650Kbps) - that is the "sweet spot" to disconnect from the internet and then Zune finds the update.
It worked for me all 3 times (there are 3 updates from 7.5 to 7.8 - one is a minor update, the second is 7.8, and the third is a Nokia minor update) when I timed my disconnection to that "sweet spot"...
Hope it helped somehow. I tried to update a million times before, and until I realized how to time it right, I didn't succeed - once I got it right, it was easy to reproduce it.
Nope, still a no go.
