How do I know if I am running EXT4 or RFS? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I know if I am using EXT 4 or RFS? I installed the CWM 3 EXT 4 but want to make sure I have EXT 4. How do I do that?
Thanks

Run quadrant and if you score > 1900 or so you're definitely on ext

cwm 3.0.0.5 automatically converts you to ext4 if your running anything other then ext4
Sent From Da Hood.

Yes mystery is def right but if you want to still check download android terminal and type "mount " and look for system, data and cache and after each one it will say ext4.

Well, I tried to convert to ext4, but its stuck at RFS, I flashed the Clockwork Mod 3 Port but no luck. Can someone help me?
Thanks

Have you tried to boot into CWM 3.0.0.5? If you haven't yet, then once you do it the first time it will convert you to ext4.

One more question, Can I run ext4 on the Stock Epic 2.1 Rom?
Because I've been stock on the Samsung Bootscreen that has the site on it for quite a while now.
Thanks

The only way back to RFS is to Odin a stock tarball (DI18, DK28, etc).

I needed this.

This should be stickied for general Android period. I was led to here because I couldn't figure out if my Galaxy Tab was RFS or EXT4.

The OC kernel doesn't support EXT4 so no.
My man Bauxite is working on the kernel we need right now, it needs to support EXT4 and we are good.
Not to much longer!
I am working on it I am having issues because I'm not at home where my dev machine is. I am installing ubuntu to a usb drive to use with my laptop at the moment
Could you try this kernel? It's default (no OC), but it has ext2/3/4 enabled.

I believe clockwork won't work unless your partitions actually are ext4, not just the kernel. I don't know where to begin on converting them.
it should convert it when it sees rfs. I'll look at it soon.

I doesn't. I'm not sure it knows which devices are what on a sprint tab. If it did convert your partitions, you wouldn't have been able to boot!

If a partition is found to be RFS, but referenced in recovery.fstab as ext4, the system will AUTOMATICALLY convert the filesystem, backing up ALL data on the partition, and restoring it after.
This is what Koush did with the others.

Stuck like Chuck on CWM v.2.5.1

I know I'm not the first person and won't be the last, but I can't figure out what I did/didn't do wrong when doing the one click recovery on my Epic 4G, other than using a super old version.
I installed the one click recovery and it did its thing and rebooted the phone. I installed rom manager after that and then tried to install the latest very of CWM, but it was saying I already had it so I went on to reboot the phone, back up my current rom, system reset/erase cache/erase dalvik, but none of the roms I try will not boot up after installing from the sd card, which was the viper rom and syndicate rom.
What did I not do?
You didn't actually install the new clockworkmod. Rom manager doesn't work with the Epic, regardless of what is says. Use the new one click root.

Well, once you odin to stock, use the one click cwm3005/3005 to root and install cwm3006, then 3 button into recovery, and it will automaticly convert to ext4. Or you could just flash this .tar file cuz it has the root, and cwm3006 already built into it. Just one flash and you get it all. No need for flashing to stock then running the one click root and cwm. This .tar has it all built in... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021305

[Q] Can I root w/o installing any rom or kernal?

I just had a problem when I booted into CWM 3.0.0.6 and converted to EXT4. I wanted to preform a backup. I had no intent to flash any rom. However I got stuck on the samsung boot screen and the recovery didnt work. So, I odined back to stock EC05 and I want to know, if I got to CWM 3.0.2.5 root will I have to flash a rom? Or can I continue with the stock and preform my backup.

Don't quote me but I believe you have to flash a stock ROM after if you want to stay rooted-stock. EXT4 & RFS are both available. The videos explain this whole process. Give a watch, it may save you time.

If u want to stay stock but rooted with ext4 u need to flash a dual boot kernel that support both ext4 and rfs if not u need a ext4 rom. But if u want rfs u can do the 1 click root with 3.0.25 and be good to go

Ok kennyglass123, you been so much help today, I think im set now! Also thanks to all of you who chipped in to this problem.
Solution: Accidently did CWM 3.0.0.6 to run through the process which in turn screwed up all my plans. The final solution was to re odin back to pure stock. Then root with CWM 3.0.2.5 all I needed was stock, but rooted for wifi tether and other root required apps =D
Thanks again to kennyglass123 for helping me with my multiple issues today.

Did you try hitting your phone with a rolled up newspaper...bad phone, bad phone!
Seriously, what recovery are you using? If it is Bonsai recovery then that is your problem. It is not working well with EI22 ROMs. Install either CWM 3.1.0.1 or the official 5.0.2.7 which is now supported by ROM Manager (in the market). Flash the zip file found in the 5.0.2.7 thread in development, download ROM Manager and click install clockwork and select Samsung Epic 4G and you should be fine.
