I know I'm not the first person and won't be the last, but I can't figure out what I did/didn't do wrong when doing the one click recovery on my Epic 4G, other than using a super old version.
I installed the one click recovery and it did its thing and rebooted the phone. I installed rom manager after that and then tried to install the latest very of CWM, but it was saying I already had it so I went on to reboot the phone, back up my current rom, system reset/erase cache/erase dalvik, but none of the roms I try will not boot up after installing from the sd card, which was the viper rom and syndicate rom.
What did I not do?
You didn't actually install the new clockworkmod. Rom manager doesn't work with the Epic, regardless of what is says. Use the new one click root.

How can I apply the one click root now that I'm basically stuck in a "boot loop" where it keeps booting back to the CWM Recovery, no matter what I do?

Well, once you odin to stock, use the one click cwm3005/3005 to root and install cwm3006, then 3 button into recovery, and it will automaticly convert to ext4. Or you could just flash this .tar file cuz it has the root, and cwm3006 already built into it. Just one flash and you get it all. No need for flashing to stock then running the one click root and cwm. This .tar has it all built in... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021305

What all needs to be used to flash the EC05 tar file from Mammon in ODIN? What settings need to be checked? Do we need to put in the victory_8G pit file and the EC05 tar file? Any help with this would be great! Thanks in advance!
The only option checked should be auto reboot. Yes you do need to use the .pit file, and the modem.tar file should go in the phone slot. Good luck. Im using it, its working fine.

OK so do this and there will be no data loss (I know, backup always) then flash the new ROM over the old right?
Don't know what is going on in the DEV section. Seems to be a war or something. And Bonsai thread keeps getting closed.

Thanks, I only wanted the modem for now and never used odin. I always felt odin was a last resort if cwm ever failed to restore a nandroid, still never wanted to use it. Anyhow I still screwed up by putting the tar file under pda instead of phone, but thankfully it didn't matter....as I wipe the sweat beads off my forehead. :-D
If you flash a tar file it goes under PDA. .bin goes in phone. You did it right.

Big thanks to RoadRAGEN for helping me figure out an ext4 issue! Odin this to get Odexed stock EG30 with latest root and su binary and Busybox 1.18.4.
This does not wipe data.
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You do this at your own risk.
I have only tested this with the stock kernel and Bubby's CWM kernel.
Download
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have installed the proper XP or Win7 drivers before starting. Also, remove the SD card from the phone (this may not be necessary, but having the SD card installed has caused Odin to fail for a number of people, so might as well just do it).
1. Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder
2. Open odin
3. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold v-down + power)
4. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
5. The only box that should be checked is Auto Reboot.
6. You do not need to choose a pit file.
7. In the PDA Section choose the tar file. (Odexed-Rooted-Busybox-EG30.tar)
8. Hit start. It will do its thing.
9. If it fails than try a new cable.
10. If the phone hangs for any reason take the battery and sdcard out and let it sit for an hour. Put it back together and try again.

Yes. That is what I have done in testing.
So with this we will have as stock of a ROM as we can currently have, yet still have root and busybox? By stock, I mean the default, out of the factory stock ROM which many claim does not have the LOS issues? Just confused somewhat...

Did you try hitting your phone with a rolled up newspaper...bad phone, bad phone!
Seriously, what recovery are you using? If it is Bonsai recovery then that is your problem. It is not working well with EI22 ROMs. Install either CWM 3.1.0.1 or the official 5.0.2.7 which is now supported by ROM Manager (in the market). Flash the zip file found in the 5.0.2.7 thread in development, download ROM Manager and click install clockwork and select Samsung Epic 4G and you should be fine.

You didn't puy any recovery on? So that means you still have the stock one? If not I would say to go through ODIN and flash the phone back to stock, then re-root with TWRP. I'm rooted and running stock right now. Waiting for something that works across the board for me. But I do like to try everything that comes out Also apps like Lucky Patcher need it and I installed the DPS audio manager.
Of course, as soon as CM10 starts rocking the BT streaming I'll be a downloading.
When I first rooted for some reason I couldnt get a custom recovery to stick. I tried multiple times with no luck so eventually I just downloaded goo manager and installed custom recovery script that way. Worked like a charm. Maybe you should try that. Would save a lot of time and effort.

That's because the file on stock roms called /system/recovery-from-boot.p will re-install the stock recovery at every boot. So the trick is to boot straight into recovery and delete that file. Or, flash the Superuser.zip in recovery, boot Android, use an app to delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p, then flash a custom recovery again and you'll be fine.
Need help rooting the new official update. Another poster said to install CF auto root with Odin but it just ain't working.
Can someone give me a step by step?

How? I've installed 4.1.2 stock. I go back into download, Odin then cf autoroot plug in my phone. Odin sees it fine. Hit start, tries to install, hangs then it says failed.
I don't know any other way to do it.

Ok, I was running deTmobilized 1.5, I flashed enewmans firmware update zip (no wipe) rebooted. Then I booted back into recovery, did a full wipe, flashed loserskater's rooted rom, and now I'm running rooted ota 4.1.2 with cwm touch recovery still intact... took all of 10 minutes maybe, no pc, no odin, all from my phone...

Just to check, in Odin you see something like "<ID:0/005> Added!!" right?
Are you using the stock USB cable?
if both are yes....no idea, sorry.

Yes both are yes. Ill just wait.
It sounds like you have an Odin problem, not a CF Autoroot problem.

Rooted Stock 4.1.2 Rom
Where can I find the rooted stock Rom for the new OTA 4.1.2? I searched and looked and could not find it.

It certainly is possible however I used 4 differnt versions of Odin. I used Odin fine to return to 4.1.1 stock the upgraded so I don't think Odin is the issue.
