I just had a problem when I booted into CWM 3.0.0.6 and converted to EXT4. I wanted to preform a backup. I had no intent to flash any rom. However I got stuck on the samsung boot screen and the recovery didnt work. So, I odined back to stock EC05 and I want to know, if I got to CWM 3.0.2.5 root will I have to flash a rom? Or can I continue with the stock and preform my backup.

Don't quote me but I believe you have to flash a stock ROM after if you want to stay rooted-stock. EXT4 & RFS are both available. The videos explain this whole process. Give a watch, it may save you time.

You can stay stock and rooted. So you got it working huh?
Do you BONSAI?
If u want to stay stock but rooted with ext4 u need to flash a dual boot kernel that support both ext4 and rfs if not u need a ext4 rom. But if u want rfs u can do the 1 click root with 3.0.25 and be good to go

No, no more EXT4 for this guy. He just wants root for wifi tether.
Root with 2.5.x for best results. 3.0.2.5 also states for RFS use and will not convert you to EXT4.

Ok kennyglass123, you been so much help today, I think im set now! Also thanks to all of you who chipped in to this problem.
Solution: Accidently did CWM 3.0.0.6 to run through the process which in turn screwed up all my plans. The final solution was to re odin back to pure stock. Then root with CWM 3.0.2.5 all I needed was stock, but rooted for wifi tether and other root required apps =D
Thanks again to kennyglass123 for helping me with my multiple issues today.

I did my research in and out of XDA w/o finding specific method on how to go about doing this :s From what I've read in these forums I found 2 different files from k0nane that, according to the people that posted them and my limited knowledge of this, lead me to believe that it will do what it is I am asking. One is "k0nane.info/rom/SPH-D700-EC05-8gb-REL.tar", and the other is "k0nane.info/rom/acs-ec05-modem.tar". (being a new user I can't directly link to the files)
I would like to know which one is the one I need to make my phone EC05. Now that summer is here I'm interested in installing ROMs, themes and trying to brick my phone ^ .^ Thanks in advance
PS: If it isn't too much of a bother, where in Odin does one place a .tar file? I've only used Odin a few times a while back; last time to put DK28 on my Epic :3
You used the first one you named. You put it in the PDA slot in Odin.
The second one is only the EC05 modem, which is pretty much the "radio firmware".
Just know that Odin does wipe out everything on your phone except your SD card.
Is there a way to upgrade from DK28 without wiping your phone?
My phone is rooted and I have CWM v2.5.1.
I have Titanium installed.
Thanks.

Is there a rooted version of EC05 that will work directly from DK28 without having to go back to DI18 and lose everything? Or is there a way to backup apps and restore after ODINing ?
you can backup everything with titanium. Apps, data, contacts.. everything.

So just to be sure....
1. Titanium backup
2. Odin to DI18
3. Upgrade to Ec05
If I have CWM 2.5.1 is it necessary to upgrade to latest version?
Is step 2 necessary or can I go directly to EC05?
Thanks again

Much obliged for all the replies
Yes, thanks as well.
So after ODIN a rooted phone, root privileges will be gone? So I will have to re-root?
Yep. You have to re-root.
Big thanks to RoadRAGEN for helping me figure out an ext4 issue! Odin this to get Deodexed stock EG30 with latest root and su binary and Busybox 1.18.4.
This does not wipe data.
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You do this at your own risk.
I have only tested this with the stock kernel and Bubby's CWM kernel.
Download
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have installed the proper XP or Win7 drivers before starting. Also, remove the SD card from the phone (this may not be necessary, but having the SD card installed has caused Odin to fail for a number of people, so might as well just do it).
1. Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder
2. Open odin
3. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold v-down + power)
4. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
5. The only box that should be checked is Auto Reboot.
6. You do not need to choose a pit file.
7. In the PDA Section choose the tar file. (Deodexed-Rooted-Busybox-EG30.tar)
8. Hit start. It will do its thing.
9. If it fails than try a new cable.
10. If the phone hangs for any reason take the battery and sdcard out and let it sit for an hour. Put it back together and try again.

That is correct. It will be just like flashing with the stock kernel which I have done. If you flash CWM it will change the kernel. Whether or not you get the LOS is up in the air. I have been using it for days and haven't had it yet.
Just so I have this straight, this is a stock rom, no kernel, deoxed so once installed I can flash a theme over it.

thanks bro.. One more question does this wipe internal sd card?
This does not have the kernel. I left it out for people to make their own decision on what kernel to use. Once we get a completely stock kernel with stock CWM I will update it. But for now it is just the system partion.
Is there a way to replace CWM with the stock recovery?
Also, is there a way to unroot?
I am currently on EC05 rooted with CWM purple but I'd like to unroot and remove CWM without having to reflash and spend hours reinstalling all my stuff.
Yes. I can't gve an exact guide right now, but you should delete superuser.apk and /system/xbin/su or /system/bin/su. Then find the stock recovery

Step Two .- Flash Unrooted Rom with CWM. Which is here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2510030/SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax.zip
And Last..
Step Three .- Odin Stock Recovery. Which is here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2510030/SGH-T989-Stock-Recovery.tar

From what i've heard, none of these solutions will get you back T989UVKL1 true stock. Both of the above posts will put the phone back to and 'older' unrooted version of stock T989UVKID.
I guess if needing to return the phone back to T-Mobile, only assuming that's what you want, it should work, however if you purchased the phone (like me) with the upgraded firmware pre installed, and you wanted to "wipe the slate clean" and start fresh with prue pre installed updated stock - the above 2 posts won't do it.

Have to use Odin to flash either TWRP or CWM. Make sure auto-reboot is unchecked. After successful flash, pull the battery. Replace battery and 3-finger boot (Camera+VolDwn+Pwr) into recovery and flash whatever rom you want. If you're just trying to root and keep everything the same, then you'll need to flash both SuperSU and a BML FC09 kernel to retain root. Otherwise the stock kernel will rewrite stock recovery upon reboot.
If you want to just be rooted, then flash the stock deodexed or odexed-rooted version of FC09.
This information is readily available if searched in these forums. The guides are a bit outdated.

I don't know why everyone says this. I rooted my stock BML FC09 by Odin-ing CWM 5.0.2.7 and then directly flashing SuperUser 3.2 RC3's flashable zip. After reboot everything including root is fine while I always have access to the CWM recovery. True story Try it.

We say flash the fixed stock kernel or a 3rd party kernel because the stock FC09 kernel has a line of code that checks the recovery partition for stock recovery. If there is a mismatch, then the stock recovery is flashed silently during the boot sequence.
Andy, are you sure you weren't on the fixed stock kernel when you experienced that? Or that you weren't on the recompiled FC09 on here?
