Hi all,
Can anyone enlighten me about this question?
Whenever I switch on my touch screen (press the power button and slide down the bar) I see from the 3G icon that there is some data activity. In particular, I first see the arrow up, then it switches from 3G to H, then a few seconds of arrow down, and then back to 3G idle.
Has anyone with a rooted phone tried to look at it with androshark (or any other monitoring tool)?
Note that this happens also with all the background data options disabled (including wireless location, accounts sync, always on mobile data, etc).
Clearly, if I switch off mobile networks completely (from the setting or from the power widget), it doesn't happen.
I am just curious of what, how much, (and whereto) is transmitted and received.
Best,
wally
Hi,
This might be a dumb question.
On normal situation with Android phone:
When I turn on my device from sleep, I could not see the 3G icon ... Only the signal strength. Then after couple of seconds, the 3G icon came up.
My phone works like this since I have it.
My question, does this mean the 3G data is also sleep when the phone sleep? Because when I wake it up, the 3G icon does not immediately come back.
Thanks.
Yes, it does disconnect after a period of inactivity (if you look at the android logs) when the phone is in sleep mode. There is a setting which you may not have enabled. it goes on the lines of 'Enable always on mobile data' under wireless and network options.
However if the phone needs to connect to the net, then i think it will re-connect in that time period. This is what you see when the 3G icon appears after a few seconds on wake up. I have always seen the phone to do this.
Allright,
I was thinking if this kind of app is really necessary:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7547017
But, I guess, it is useful because during the sleep mode, some app might require internet access (email sync for example).
Maybe....The only reason i say this is that the OS will start a new network connection in the background even when the phone is sleeping...thats how your emails are sync'd and so is everything else...
Mine in decreasing order of annoyance:
Decreased 3G/4G/WiFi reception comparing to previous phone (EVO 4G).
Touchwiz:
Full charge sound.
Contacts not prioritizing contact pictures from FB/Twitter/Skype over Google.
Dialpad is convoluted (too many steps to make a call) and fugly.
Lockscreen. Ewww.
Bottom touch buttons backlight shuts off 2-3 seconds after screen is touched (should be longer).
Power button on side of phone.
You know you can change the background on your lockscreen in settings. Still not the best lockscreen available but there are plenty of options in the market. you can change the duration of the backlight for the bottom buttons in display settings under "touch key light duration".

Can't help you with most. But in settings/ display you can adjust the display timing for what Samsung refers to as Touch Keys.
....

Also, the location of the power button will be updated in new roms...
"1. Decreased 3G/4G/WiFi reception comparing to previous phone (EVO 4G)."
Can this be fixed with updates? I really hope so, that is my only issue with the phone currently.
Mine in decreasing order of annoyance:
Decreased 3G/4G/WiFi reception comparing to previous phone (MoPho).
LED is blue or red, thats it (tried diferent options incl. apk's... all to no avail).
No landscape mode for TW
Speaker full volume / clarity at said full volume is good, but speaker does strain infrequently and is not as loud as MoPho's (barely but still noticeable)
Wow, thanks for the bottom key tweak. Overlooked that one.
My complaint about the lockscreen is the plainess and lack of features it possesses. Sense simply blows TW away at the moment.
Yeah, Sense is plenty better, but TW isn't that bad, other than the lock screen.....and the way they have it set up to select your widgets.....but it's okay.
DITTO tho on the data, that's a biggie. I'm returning mine because of this. I need data, I use it more than the phone, lol
1. The vibration when I received a text was insanely too long, but I can't figure out how to adjust the pattern.
2. 4G keeps going to sleep while I'm streaming music with the display off, and I have to wake the phone to get the music to start streaming again.
Nothing else is really bothering me right now. Except I'd like a better lock screen.

I suppose if you like 1gb+ roms, sure.
Touchwiz is incredibly easy to theme. I'm sure there will be an 8 lockscreen mod port soon.

Lack of airplane mode in the shade pull-down. My office has zero reception, so need to rely on Google voice during office hours.
Will probably use anycut to put an airplane-mode shortcut on the homescreen.
Biggest ones for me right now concern the dialer:
- No instant-call button on the dialer's Favorites or Contacts tabs - you have to tap the name, then call on the second screen. On stock Android it has a phone icon right there at the right side of each name's field. No clue why they'd go and remove that, it's extremely useful.
- No way to turn off the huge photos next to people's names - I always turned those off on stock to make it just a list of names with the phone icon on the right - it showed a lot more names per screen that way. Again, no idea why a feature like that gets removed.

If you swipe your finger right to left over their name it calls them. If you swipe left to right it brings you into messaging. I actually like it more than the stock call buttons. Keeps the contacts menu more clean imo.
First. I am rooted so there is a possibility it is the rooted Kernel that is doing this... but maybe not as it is radio related.
Twice today lost signal on the golf course (and in addition to phone signal lost data so my GPS Golf App wasn't usable when I needed it for distance to the green)... but couldn't get the phone to trigger signal back on even if I put the phone in Airplane Mode (both times) and back out. Also tried turning roaming off and on.
Both times I HAD to turn the phone completely off and then back on. When it came back on I had 4 bars (but had previously been unable to connect).
Not good...
When I was playing with the phone @ the sprint store I noticed that airplane mode option pop up if i hit the power switch while in phone mode.

No biggie, as I'm sure all that try will find out, but he means your "other left" and "other right" (as my father used to say as I was growing up), i.e. the swipe directions described are actually the opposite directions.
Cheers!

AWESOME, thanks. Don't know how I forgot that!
When I'm texting with Swype, the language switches to Espanol all the time because the language button is right next to the comma button.
It's really annoying, any way to turn it off?
I can't for the life of me figure out how to keep the screen from turning off while the phone is plugged in. Its usually under settings>applications> development> keep screen on while charging..

My coworker bought the Galaxy-Nexus last week from Verizon, and says the battery life just sucks so bad, he said dead by mid day, battery is lucky to get 6 hours. He wants to know if there is a way to turn off LTE ? I thought you could turn it off like Sprint's 4G ? I never use the 4G on my Galaxy SII, I get 10 hours battery life on super heavy use weekdays, and get like 30+ hours on weekend light use.
I told him the 4G settings should be in; Settings-Wireless and Network-?
Thanks
What other tips would you recommend for settings to conserve battery life on the Verizon Nexus ? I am sure the standard stuff I do on my Galaxy SII; Location settings turned off, watch the sync times, no LTE, no auto brightness, etc... ?
Settings -> Wireless & Networds select More ... -> Moblie Networks ->Network Mode -> select CDMA
Is there a way to make that into a shortcut? So you can either switch it on off from home screen, or at least make a shortcut to get straight there?

Good question. I still do not understand why Google does not add widget toggles up in the notification bar to stock Android ? They should have the most used widget toggles up there; WiFi...Bluetooth...GPS...Sound...4G...

Best temp solution that I have seen is LTE Switch. I'll admit though, the icon is pretty ugly.
I tried Widgetsoid, which adds CM-like toggles to the notification menu... but no 4G icon.
Honestly I don't use 4G that often so I just leave it disabled. I can go from 8am~9pm on a charge with some pretty heavy usage (including an hour of XDA reading, games, etc)
Beautiful widgets had a 4G button you could add, I remember seeing it when I had my Fascinate but of course it wasn't 4G. I'll add the button on my Nexus and report back if it works.
-Edit-
Says it only works with HTC devices, oh well!!
Just as the title of this post states. While at work, or even at home, when my signal drops out, I immediately get a pop up that asks if I want to search for available networks. It's about an inch tall, and spans the entire length of the bottom of the screen. It's infuriating because it happens every single time I lose signal. The reception on this phone is particularly weak, and I lose signal in a lot of places that my Pixel 3 simply wouldn't, so it will pop up repeatedly while at my desk at work, or anywhere else that it can't get a signal. Is there any way to disable that pop up?

Press and hold...you can silent it, or disable notification.
