Ive got a dude that will flash my DINC with calls text and data..
What I want to know is , Im currently running a custom rom. after he flashes it.
Will I still be able to flash roms. etc without anything breaking. etc..
35 bucks a months for 2 DINCS with unlimited everything is hard to pass up..
Plus I have wifi everywhere i go. so the slow data will not be a problem for me..
thanks,
What specifically is he flashing?
ah he said for 50 bucks and the first month free. voice text and data. And where i live it should have 3g data. etc. but im sure its spotty. mine is rooted running sense-less rev. and my wifes is all stock. no root. etc..
I've been running MetroPCS since November without any problems. I had Metro flash the phone and I used the Eris tutorial for MMS, web, and apps the involve the web. Everything is fully fuctional. When you go and flash a new rom, only talk and text will work. You have to follow the tutorial to get back the rest. I pretty much just flashed my favorite roms and did a back up for each one after establishing working MMS, web, and apps. Although data is kind of slow, it gets the job done. And for $40 a month for unlimited everything, I'm not one to complain.
so basicly find a rom I like and stick with it.. unless i want to learn how to bring back data after after a new rom flash..
I can handle that...guess i will do some flashing today to find a perfect rom for me.. really like lou's sense-less rom great batt life a with his 4# kernal..
Your talk and text will remain if you flash a new ROM. Don't flash the RUU however.

Think my plan has changed. Metro's coverage out in my area sucks.. so might just get the samsung intercept on virgin mobile for 27 bucks a month. and keep my DINC for everything else..
wish we could flash to virgin.lol oh well

So i have rooted my phone a while back, and been flashing new roms back and fourth , but not sure why recently after a couple of weeks, i have seen my 3g signal drop without me doing anything, on the same places were i usually get perfect 3g signal,
i updated the radios to recent ones, update the profile , PRL profile etc so see if these was the problem that 3g drops all the time,
so i have flash myths , cya mods roms, MIUI , and evry other sense roms like HD SACS and fresh evo etc and i even try AOSP roms to see if the sense roms was the problem, but with AOSP Roms it even drops more,
example of what i mean:
i will be using the internet were it takes forevr to load cuz 3g dont kick in,
than out of no where 3g works perfectly for like 5 to 10 mins,
than after a while i try to use any application that uses internet like facebook, pandora, youtube etc, the 3g starts acting up and doesnt kick in , does this evry other 10 mins which its annoying the crap out of me.
PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME I WILL EVEN DONATE $20 TO 30 BUCKS FOR YOUR TIME BY PAYPAL.
NOT SURE WHAT OTHER OPTIONS I HAVE, AND I REALLY DONT WANT TO REPLACE MY PHONE AND IM PRETTY SURE I CANT BRING IT TO SPRINT TO FIX IT CUZ ITS ROOTED, OR CAN I?
THANKS
Here is the best thing to try for starters.
Start completely fresh.
Download this zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ikylelx99c49133/Calkulin's_FORMAT_ALL.zip
flash that zip from recovery and it will format everything without a doubt.
Then flash a rom like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874251
stock rooted ruu - simple and no modifications.
If you are still having issues after this, then it is possible that you are having hardware issues.
It wouldn't hurt to try updating your radios as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 - the combo one at the top should get them all.
+1 those are the best suggestions than I think can be given to help with your situation. I had the same problem on my hwd 003 evo sent it in and got a hwd 004 speeds were better I think it was a hwd problem cause I couldn't find a fix.

so i use it over the weekend, and after a day it starting acting up again, i was happy when it work almost for a full day and than it starting acting up where 3g wasnt kicking in, thanks for ur advise and i guess i have to replace this evo.
you might wanna try going to a Sprint store with service center, maybe they can figure it out there, as you've basically tried everything one can do at home to try and fix it, and are still having problems.

Here's one to accompany that. It may not even be your phone. Call *2 and ask if they are having network issues in your area. Mine was doing the same thing after a storm (we had tornaders...yes, tornaders...live with it). It was back up withing 48 hours, then again, I reported the issue.
I'm sure they have some pretty good monitoring systems in place; however, if the guys behind the NOC are anything like the guys here at my work...well I won't say anything, but you can piece together the picture.

nobody else i know have 3g issues, because i have ask my friends with evo's and my roommate to let me see there evo and check if the sprint network just acting up, but is not cuz there phone is running good. but it seems like i start getting normal 3g signal when i first flash a rom, than after a couple of hours or a day it start acting up, its annoying as hell cuz i could be in the middle of doing something during the day and when i need my phone to work with 3g, it start acting up,
thanks though for the suggestion, not sure if rooting the phone would effect the signal problem,

Just because you see it drop to 1x doesn't mean anything. That means that sense doesn't want you to know about it. so there is no icon for 1x since aosp is different and doesn't lie it tells you the truth. I thought things like this from time to time until I did this. Flashed stock. Speedtest... sat in the same spot flashed CM, speedtest. Both were about the same.. some tests were faster on CM then sense and some were faster on sense then CM. I get my email... and my market downloads never fail... So I can't really complain.
ok maybe im on the wrong thread but idk. I had the CM6.1.1 and was working fine for awhile then suddenly im losing FULL data on and off. i'd have to switch it to 2G and back off to get the H of 4G and it'll only work for a few hours then i'd have to repeat it again. so I unrooted and sent it for a replacement thinking it was the G2 but now im having the same problem on CM7 2 weeks after replacing the G2. WTH?!?! is a new way of google shut us root users down?? i tried eveyrhing. wipe, reinstall nothing.. no luck
Hmm not positive but sounds like something on your end. If tmobile was actually implementing something like this we would all know about it and/or the forums would be blowing up. Not sure what advice to give you on what to fix it though.

yea man idk wtf it is! i had this prob before and got the G2 replaced now its having the same prob again. its not apps im DLing i did everything i could think of. right now its restoring to stock rom so im gonna see how that goes... I rooted my GF g2 with sense and it works fine no issues and she ran it for months now..probably it something on my end since im the only one having this issue. but i didnt do anything besides root, DL rom.. thats it. i cant see how a few weeks later im losing data outta nowhere. i dont experiment with nighties or radios i just stick to one rom. hmm.. looks like im gonna have to toy with it for a while to ge it right again...

FWIW, i've had a ton of problems with the data connection over the past few days. sometimes (like now) i get data speed upwards of 4,200kbps with a lowww 67MS ping.
but for the most part data has been either non existant. issues started when i flashed CM7.0, went back to RC2 and things seem to be working much better.
had a bunch of other problems with CM7 tho, so i might have borked the install.

Your phone hates you and wants you to suffer for committing the crime of posting a "Q&A" topic in the "Development" section.
It doesn't sound like anything on your end. There are two things your gonna want to do here. The first is check you sim card, where the gold part is. Look to see if there is something near the gold piece that looks like TM*****. If not then replace your sim card. If you do have that then call tech support and have them file a Service Request if this is something that only happens in around a 7 mile are, if it happens everywhere you are then your gonna have to have a trouble ticket filled for your line.

i already did all this when i had this prob on the 1st G2. so what im trying now is erasing everything, flash rom see if that works if it doesnt im gonna unroot, REroot flash rom. it doesnt work im sending this in for a replacement too (for the second time)
I am not on Tmobile, but I had a similiar problem... It turned out to be from using superbattery app... It actualy modifies the radio/ril some how.. and flashing a new rom/restoring stock, nothing worked, untill I flashed my same radio again.... Then it was fixed..... It is worth a try.

wth.. i unrooted, flashed stock OS, re rooted, flashed RC2, was fine for an hour then again.. NO DATA! WTF!?!?! i guess i gotta mess wit he radios? i dont even know how to do that never went that far.
Bought this phone wanting faster internet than what I had.
I really have not messed with this phone for 3 months and have been OK with what I am paying and the speeds I get. Nothing to write home about, but faster than what I had.
For almost a week now the thing has a hard time getting connected then it is really bad once connected.
Always dropping off (getting lost) Having to reload pages over and over because the signal goes away.
It switches from 3G back to 1x a lot.
A friend rooted this and installed tether, taskiller, and a few other things I can't remember.
I had tried to remove stuff running in the back ground as best I could a couple of months ago trying to save battery life (which sucks) with no problems.
So what gives?
I live 40 miles south of the Nations Capitol and 20 miles west of the great Interstate 95 bumper to bumper traffic corridor.
I know where the tower is (4 miles away) and don't think there will be any new ones anytime soon.
It's still out in the sticks.
Frustrated and I really don't want to brick this phone since I got rid of my landline.
Root it, flash the .04.08 leaked evo radio. I'm running it and have gotten much better 3g speeds. You won't regret it
Sent from my HTC Incredible
If you do ROOT your Inc you'll want to flash a custom ROM to get the optimized experience.
I would suggest SkyRaider 4.0
Also if you upgrade to the evo radio (2.15.4.08) BE CAREFUL! This is the easiest way to brick your phone.
Download the radio and also download the app called MAND5 from the market.
ManD5 will verify the checksum of the radio.
Compare the checksum to the downloaded radio to what it says it should be in either the thread or website.

Also, SR4.0 has wireless tether included in the ROM.

Personally, I'd opt for the 2.15.10.05.06 Incredible GB radio, as it's resulted in a low-but-reliable signal in some previously intermittent-signal areas I frequent here in the same area of the country. It's important to note that the effectiveness of the various radios seems to vary from phone to phone and location to location, so YMMV.
As for a custom ROM, if you like Sense, the previously mentioned SkyRaider 4.0 is nice, but if not, CyanogenMod 7 is really quite lovely. A Sense ROM will obviously be more like what you already have, but I have non-technical friends who have transitioned to a vanilla build with no problem.
Kernels can also help with battery life. I use Incredikernel--there's a 12/23 Sense kernel if you want to stick with a Sense ROM, or the 4/19 stable if you go with a vanilla gingerbread build, as well as an upcoming new release (currently in beta).
My understanding is that flashing radios is the most dangerous part, but it's also very straightforward. I know modding the phone can be a bit intimidating, but as long as you read and follow instructions, make frequent backups, don't go installing random things willy-nilly, and ensure you've got sufficient battery life, the risks are minimal. Plus, it can become a bit addictive.
If you're in warranty, root. If you brick it you will just be without a phone for a few days while you ask for a refurb (I know, I'm currently on my 3rd DInc, first one bricked and second got USB Bricked), but if that's not acceptable than just don't flash a radio. If you don't flash radios, there is a very low chance of getting bricked.
It sounds like you don't have much personal stuff on the phone. I'd make sure my contacts are backed up then do a factory reset. Let Google bing your contacts back then do a *228 Option 1. This way you'll have at least gotten rid of any interfering apps (I've heard that Task Killer can cause issues) and you'll know that your phone is programmed to the current towers.
THEN, if it still has problems, of if you just want to explore, you can start playing!
i have had my phone since it came out and rooted it as soon as i could and i still have luckily not bricked it. just make sure you back everything up and check md5 sums with the radios and test different radios, since some will work better than others.
You guys are speaking a whole different language
I have no idea what most of you are talking about and don't know where to look for this stuff.
"Root it, flash the .04.08 leaked evo radio" No idea what you saying here
"If you do ROOT your Inc you'll want to flash a custom ROM to get the optimized experience.

What is radio? I don't want to listen to radio.
What would happen if I just tried the *228 option?
Verizon said I needed to do this every few months but I am concerned it will mess up the root job my friend did on the phone.
Your not gonna mess anything up doing a *228, don't worry about that.

*228 wont do anything to your phone just type *22899 and it skips all the talk and goes straight to the, I guess you call it the update screen.

Lmao...
The radio on your phone is the firmware that is used to communicate with the cell tower. Your going to want to look at this thread and read it over a couple times before even rooting your phone...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744807
...and also read the thread that's hyperlinked in that post.
From your last response, I wouldn't changed anything. There are all kinds of tutorials that take you through a step by step process to root. If you do a little research, you could have all your questions answered.
Words of warning
One of the surest ways to brick one of these is by not being patient enough. Never if your flashing something never pull the battery. Only flash when your battery is over 50% if it dies in the middle of flashing something it can brick it. Flashing roms and kernals is pretty safe following the above 2 cautions.
Flashing radios is kinda on the edge due to it accessing a completely diffrent memory space really you only need to worry if the radio you flashed is not the correct one for your phone or is corrupt due to some downloading error. This is why the md5 is checked if it passes chances are the download happened as it was susposed to and is the correct file.
Probably right
Shouldn't mess with it.
Be nice if all this wasn't so "underground" and one could walk in to a store and say
unlock this and give me what I want with a guarantee that it isn't going to be an expensive paperweight.
I got this thing thinking I would finally have decent internet speeds.
If I had known I was going to have to update roms and radios and who knows what else every other month I never would have got the stupid thing.
I haven't had a cell phone for 10 years.
And didn't miss it either.
See people everyday clutching the thing like it was an umbilical cord to momma.
Ridiculous. . . . and sad.
So I am going to ask again, if I do the *22899 thing, will it screw up my tether or rooted phone from getting online?
Will I have to alter anything else after *22899 ?

Your phone should reboot after the programming. If it doesn't, turn it off and turn it back on.
Reading your input above, you might be more comfortable with something less complicated. Go back to your rotary dial land line.
That helped
That seems to have helped anyway.
Thanks for the replies, even from you young pompous types.
I don't think anyone is being pompous here.
Rooting a phone is not always the answer. You need to understand what you're doing, and what the risks are. There is plenty of information on this forum to learn what rooting, flashing roms, and flashing radios entails... If you are interested. If you are not, I would not recommend rooting.
Verizon gives you what they are comfortable guaranteeing. They understandably are not going to support multiple ROMs or unofficial radios. My wife's phone is stock, because *I* don't want to support it. Nothing wrong with that.
It is rather hard to brick this phone if you understand what you're doing. On the other hand, if you don't know what *NOT* to do, you could end up with a brick fairly easily. Read the posts out there designed for beginners. Understand what you want to do. Make sure you have time to finish what you want to do. If any of these things seem like too much to do, leave it stock.
^^agreed.
i mean if you are not comfortable rooting your phone then you probably shouldnt do it, but the only way you will learn is by doing it yourself. thats how most of us know bout everything you can do once your phone is rooted.
My suggestion, if you're confused or uncomfortable with the technology, DON'T MESS WITH IT. Lots of people use the stock phone software very happily. If you take it, completely unmodified, to Verizon, and explain your problem, they'll be happy to assist you.
You don't have to root. You don't have to do anything you aren't comfortable with. Good luck.
In the latest Jiminy post by Deathsled, he mentioned the Jiminy mod is no longer necessary to get full functionality on a Cricket-Flashed Evo...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784776&page=36
What is the reason for this?
About 6 months ago, I payed cricket store $100 for a full flash, and got no MMS...
I recently took my phone to someone on craigslist, and he got my MMS working, but now I have VERY slow 3G (10-30kbps down). He said he's working on it, but I figured I need to look elsewhere for guidance...
He told me he flashed it back to the stock Sense rom, and then flashed it to Jiminy.
Since then, i get about 10 major process crashes a day, and I have about 15-20 HTC/Sense processes running constantly that I never saw prior to this flash.
How can I get my phone working as it is intended to on Cricket, and not have erroneous processes eating all of my resources?
This has been a very long and tedious process to get a fully functional Evo on Cricket, and I just want it to be over... Ive sacrificed oto much time and money on all of this...
Thanks in advance guys, I know how helpful you all can be!
So I found a couple posts here regarding flashing the Samsung Epic 4G to use on Page Plus, along with the comprehensive Google Document on how to do it.
My questions are:
If I follow this process and get an Epic 4G on Page Plus, can I flash custom ROMs to the phone whenever I want or will flashing the ROMs overwrite what I did to get the phone on Page Plus and will I have to do it every time I flash a custom ROM?
Also, I could really figure out from the posts or the document if everything works normally on the Epic once on Page Plus or if it is quirky and has random things that don't work.
I guess what I'm asking is, is this a good idea? I don't need to do this but I'm on Page Plus with my Droid X2, which I am beginning to hate because I cant get a decent up to date ROM on it (JB), and a friend is offering to sell his Epic 4G for a good price and I want to stay on Page Plus, which I really like.
Thanks!

I've been using Pageplus on my Epic4G for almost a year now and I can tell you that flashing any kinda of Rom (stock or custom) will not effect your pageplus service, except maybe for data which you need to edit the APN settings (using "apn backup" app from the market) every time you install a new rom to your phone.
Data speed are spotty and so slow with Sprint phones on Pageplus that if the data worked for you in the first place. ( I have 100mb on my PP monthly plan, but I didn't use any of it since I've migrated to cm10, used to be working with stock roms).
also, I don't know yet if voice-mail notification is fully working now or not, but mostly keep checking from time to time just in case someone left you a voice-mail.
Other than the data and voice-mail issues, everything else is working fine like any other phone.
Thanks for the reply Sohip. I am unclear on the data issues though. You said:

Are you saying data is really spotty and slow on Page Plus with the Epic in general or doesn't work at all? I have a 2gb data plan and I've never had speed or spotty issues with PP on my Droid X2 at all. Is this something specific to the Epic on PP?
If that's the case I suppose I'm just better off sticking with the Droid X2?
Thanks!
I think they are specific only to Sprint phones on Pageplus, my data speed on speedtest.net are like 0.2 mb only.. do you know what's your data speed on your verizon phone with pageplus?
