Hello,
I know there are several threads about this already, but none of them tells me which rom for the Defy is the closest to a stock (non-Motorola) 2.1 or 2.2 Android. Thanks.
Basically, blurless means non blur and you can't really compare two things which are basically the same. Blurless means you won't have ANY blur app in your phone which basically eats up the memory and cpu although some are necessary for sync and all that.
If you're talking about whether to choose 2.1 or 2.2, i would suggest 2.2 because although i was disappointed by it, you still have some nice applications for 2.2 such as full flash player support and some apps require at least 2.2 so yea...have fun playing around with roms !
cheers,
Sorry for late reply.
Yes, I'm aware of what "blurless" means or I wouldn't have used it. I was trying to find out what Defy rom is available that is closest to a 2.2 or 2.1 stock Android ROM (ergo, without Motoblur). All I want is a standard Android rom—preferably 2.2—without all the Blur crap, or the closest possible to it that I can get. Thanks.
The leaked Nordic sbf 3.4.2_177 is a blurless Motorola ROM & is a 2.2.2 - I've been using this myself for a week or so & it's a good slick ROM. Prior to this I wasusing the leaked UK 2.2 ROM 3.4.3-11 which is a Blur ROM - The Nordic is my preference.
If it's custom ROMs you are after then in the Defy Dev Forum there's a few based on the Nordic & the ROM by ephumeris (EphuNord ROM) sounds good.
Hope that helps & that I've understood what you wanted
My EphuNord is basically stock Nordic Deblur rom. I've just made adjustments to make it easier to theme and modify. I think ive provided around 8 framework themes so far. A mod for stock lock screen. More optional extras to come soon too.
Sent from my Defy on CM7.
Alright, that sounds good. I'll try it out, thanks.
i want to ask a simple question to all.

You be the judge.
I doubt we will get it anytime soon, will be the last day of Q2 me thinks!

Not sure where you're located but according to Moto forums https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/47028 the Defy in the US has received a limited release for testing which means the official release wont be to far away. Probably like the other posts said, end of April.
The Brazilian Defy branded by Claro has Android 2.2.1.

My error!
I meant, the retail version!
Telus Canada is now selling defy with 2.2
I would like the clean SBF of my telus rom, but i dont see it on their site.
The version of Defy selling in China has Android 2.2.1. Now it has upgraded to Android 2.2.2 through net
US T-Mobile DEFY w/ FROYO 2.2.1 Factory Original
I have a new DEFY that is US T-Mobile Branded running 2.2.1 from the factory. How can I help? See pictures below!
Coming soon
...so China has 2.2 for quiet a while now and Korea got Froyo to. My guess: next the Staates will get Froyo and then its Europes turn
It seems that MOTO is rolling out the update but in batches. Any info on when is Froyo going to be released in India?
So any one with official 2.2 what's the phone like now any better ? is it faster, smoother, bug free (as they have been working with the rom for over a year now)?
I know 1 thing i was looking forward to was a black status bar but its still white oh well
also what pisses me of is that most devices will be upgraded to 2.3 including the droidx witch was out before the defy.
This is the last time i buy Motorola there crap with updates.
I just gave up waiting and flashed a custom ROM. It was the best thing I did! The xd1 ROM is many times faster than the Motorola's. Highly recommended!

I am new to the Android phone, and I purchase the Defy on last sunday, I like this phone and those function, but I am thinking to upgrade the firmware to 2.2, the salesman say it can be download 2.2 OTA at April, but after a week and there is still nothing.
So now I am thinking upgrade to CM7, one question, after installed the CM7, can it downgrade to the original 2.2 OTA?
Also I am focusing to the Hotspot feature. Is it work fine?
my phone version is
2.59.0.MB525.Retail.n.CH18
firmware version
2.1 update1
Yes, i have done that tomorrow. I don't like some modifications that i was used to, in the contact list, that have changed in the CM7. I'm gonna wait to another version to see if will get better what i want.
it seems like cm7 is still in beta-mode if i was u i would wait untill a stable verison comes out
If you don't want to be flashing fixes every other day i recommend not going with CM7. It runs great for light usage but it has many issues for now.
I recommend going with a 2.2 rom like my EphuNord. It is a clean Blurless 2.2 rom with a few modifications to allow easy themeing. I also uploaded around 8 themes.
If you follow the correct procedures you can always downgrade as far as 2.1 again if you need to.
thx for information, but which is the most stable for 2.2? I saw some post that some rom are not compatible?! Any recommandation? I want 2.2 or above.
I am lost on upgrade or not.
I want to update to ephnord 2.2
But want to downgrade back to 2.1
I am 2.51 uk(the phone came with it)

For Now 2.2 will be a better choice as the CM7 is its beta phases so let it come as a stable build...
N dude make sure while upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 you does not lose ur downgradability and for that use the excellent work from fritolays so that u can downgade back to ur original firmware just by flashing 2.1 firmware of ur choice back...
Were can i find fritolays`s work, thanks in advance mate.

If you're newbie (or just want to use phone, not patch it every day), then better 2.2
fritolays's work here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989
EphuNord is also good choise for you. They both based on latest official leaked 2.2 and very stable.
Thank u so much

thx
has no one any idea????
is someone out there who tried it on the defy?
The same for me
I'm thinking about an update to 2.3 ...
is this problem fixed in the beta 2.3 from moto? or do you mean cm7?
does a 2.3 of moto already exist?
no, i'm thinking about cm7
where can I find the original moto v2.3 version?
I've a red cam version, so i don't have to care about the green cam
what about my inital post?
Hey all,
Rumour is that handsets with 2.3.3+ will eventually go to ICS.
Do you think this will include Defy+ ?
Kind regards
Only one Word: Motorola
It is very likely but it will b a long time before that happens
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
Well yes, the main issue could be *Motorola*
Even the new RAZR is looking at Q1 2012 for ICS.
Well right now the Defy i have now with Walter's Defy+ stock rom will have to suffice
It is a possibility unless there is a Defy++ in the making.

does it really matter whether there will be an official or not? the cyanogen team will start working on cm9 (ics) as soon as the source is available, which will probably happen in a few weeks. and since the defy is officially supported (and all devices capable of running gb will be able to run ics), we will get official cm9. the question is, with which kernel, because as long as the bootloader is locked, we will have to stick to froyo kernel. no idea how that effects things... :/
sent from my cm7.1 defy...
Motorola RAZR will be the
first phone to incorporate Motorola’s
new bootloader solution. http://ausdroid.net/2011/10/21/motorola-razr-to-be-unlockable/
"Motorola. said they
were working on a bootloader solution that would allow
the unlocking and re-locking of the bootloaders on their
phones later this year. "
So there's still hope for defy/+'s bootloader .
Well, unlocking the Bootloader.
But I think the Defy won't have ICS, due to the old kernel.
just thinking.
As far as trusting Motorola for updates, I wouldn't start getting my hopes up. You'll notice the original Defy is still at 2.2 and the Defy+ hasn't got any updates at all.
Our only hope is CyanogenMod and the likes, and the Defy isn't on the high-priority list of any of them. By the time, and if, it comes out at all, we'd all probably have fancy new phones anyways.
Defy original came with 2.1 and got one upgrade to 2.2. It is logical that defy+ get one upgrade too...
ICS will work with froyo kernel 99% sure. Difference between froyo and ginger kernel is security fixes, no major updates, new kernel 3.0.1 is the high-end Linux, if Motorola unlocked boot-loaders it's a big plus about using last kernel innovations.
i hope motorola releases the official gingerbread for our defy because isn't acceptable that we are at froyo yet
^ Motorola confirm that 2.2 is latest update for Defy and Kernel of Defy+ is the same as Froyo 2.6.32, update is not needed. Google was make equip for updating all phones (when is possible) to run 4.0, but was a fake, maybe ?!
we're waiting cyanogenmod team
