Hello,
I know there are several threads about this already, but none of them tells me which rom for the Defy is the closest to a stock (non-Motorola) 2.1 or 2.2 Android. Thanks.
Basically, blurless means non blur and you can't really compare two things which are basically the same. Blurless means you won't have ANY blur app in your phone which basically eats up the memory and cpu although some are necessary for sync and all that.
If you're talking about whether to choose 2.1 or 2.2, i would suggest 2.2 because although i was disappointed by it, you still have some nice applications for 2.2 such as full flash player support and some apps require at least 2.2 so yea...have fun playing around with roms !
cheers,
Sorry for late reply.
Yes, I'm aware of what "blurless" means or I wouldn't have used it. I was trying to find out what Defy rom is available that is closest to a 2.2 or 2.1 stock Android ROM (ergo, without Motoblur). All I want is a standard Android rom—preferably 2.2—without all the Blur crap, or the closest possible to it that I can get. Thanks.
The leaked Nordic sbf 3.4.2_177 is a blurless Motorola ROM & is a 2.2.2 - I've been using this myself for a week or so & it's a good slick ROM. Prior to this I wasusing the leaked UK 2.2 ROM 3.4.3-11 which is a Blur ROM - The Nordic is my preference.
If it's custom ROMs you are after then in the Defy Dev Forum there's a few based on the Nordic & the ROM by ephumeris (EphuNord ROM) sounds good.
Hope that helps & that I've understood what you wanted
My EphuNord is basically stock Nordic Deblur rom. I've just made adjustments to make it easier to theme and modify. I think ive provided around 8 framework themes so far. A mod for stock lock screen. More optional extras to come soon too.
Sent from my Defy on CM7.
Alright, that sounds good. I'll try it out, thanks.

Hey guys,
I'm using desire with os 2.1 and know that 2.2 is releases in europe already. How do I flash to the official 2.2 rom? I do not want to try other cooked roms.
Thanks!

I just did this

I got my 2.2 update file here http://hotfile.com/dl/58947725/9565...8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip.html
Is there not an official RUU for 2.2 yet?
Personally I'd think very carefully before flashing the official rom. Prepare yourself for things not working as well as 2.1.
Rumour has it that HTC is already preparing a patch. IMO I wouldn't do it as there is no going back. Much better rooting and flashing the official OTA rooted version so you can have a play. If you take a nandroid backup before you flash you can then very easily restore the 2.1 rom after you are disgusted with all the broken stuff
Equally flash a custom rom that applies fixes to the broken bits and be happy

I hope the rumors true.
Thats the only reason im looking at a 2.2 RUU.
My 2.1 unbranded OTA'd to 2.2, and handfree over BT is broke, HTC Music app crashes when the Navigation app speaks, and a few other minor bugs here and there...was hoping that a 2.2 RUU would fix all that, that it was a broken install....?
I see. So in that case, a cooked rom of 2.2 will work better in that sense?
my 2.2 works perfect but i dont use Bluetooth as I prefer points than to wear one of the gay little headsets lol
I am new to the Android phone, and I purchase the Defy on last sunday, I like this phone and those function, but I am thinking to upgrade the firmware to 2.2, the salesman say it can be download 2.2 OTA at April, but after a week and there is still nothing.
So now I am thinking upgrade to CM7, one question, after installed the CM7, can it downgrade to the original 2.2 OTA?
Also I am focusing to the Hotspot feature. Is it work fine?
my phone version is
2.59.0.MB525.Retail.n.CH18
firmware version
2.1 update1
Yes, i have done that tomorrow. I don't like some modifications that i was used to, in the contact list, that have changed in the CM7. I'm gonna wait to another version to see if will get better what i want.
it seems like cm7 is still in beta-mode if i was u i would wait untill a stable verison comes out
If you don't want to be flashing fixes every other day i recommend not going with CM7. It runs great for light usage but it has many issues for now.
I recommend going with a 2.2 rom like my EphuNord. It is a clean Blurless 2.2 rom with a few modifications to allow easy themeing. I also uploaded around 8 themes.
If you follow the correct procedures you can always downgrade as far as 2.1 again if you need to.
thx for information, but which is the most stable for 2.2? I saw some post that some rom are not compatible?! Any recommandation? I want 2.2 or above.
I am lost on upgrade or not.
I want to update to ephnord 2.2
But want to downgrade back to 2.1
I am 2.51 uk(the phone came with it)

For Now 2.2 will be a better choice as the CM7 is its beta phases so let it come as a stable build...
N dude make sure while upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 you does not lose ur downgradability and for that use the excellent work from fritolays so that u can downgade back to ur original firmware just by flashing 2.1 firmware of ur choice back...
Were can i find fritolays`s work, thanks in advance mate.

If you're newbie (or just want to use phone, not patch it every day), then better 2.2
fritolays's work here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989
EphuNord is also good choise for you. They both based on latest official leaked 2.2 and very stable.
Thank u so much

Hi, everybody. Got an unusual question today:
Last wednesday I updated my Defy to Barebones v1.5 (did my SBF backup, don't worry) right from stock Eclair. I'm having ABSOLUTELY no issues with it, but today Motorola released the official Froyo here in Brazil.
Even though I trust my phone's life completely to XDA, I feel safer using an official firmware (if no additional features in custom ROMs tease me).
I can easily downgrade to 2.1 and update to the official ROM, but I have a specific need: 720p recording. With this mod I'm currently able to do so in Barebones, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do so in the official firmware. As shown in the mod's thread, they currently support 3.4.2-117, 3.4.2-145 and 3.4.2-155 build versions.
So, my question is: is there any way I can find out the official firmware's version? If I won't be able to record in 720p (which is a indispensable feature for me, as a future vlogger), I won't update. The update comes as an executable (so I can't look into the ROM's files), so a database of official firmwares would be better.
Thanks in advance,
Gabriel
Bump. Nobody?
I'd like to get rid of motoblur apps. I've found these instructions in the dev forum:
Add on only this lines to your build.prop
ro.mot.deblur=true
ro.mot.setuptype=2
data/cache wipe your rom and .... --> no more Motoblur-Account
Click to collapse
Do you have more informations about this manipulation. Will it prevent motoblur apps from installing at all ? Or will it just bybpass the motoblur account settings ?
I will only flash to a blurless ROM if I have to. Mine is fully functional, it's just the motoblur part that I don't like.
Thanks.
There are very complete and mature froyo deblurred sbf ready to be flashed, such as NORDIC. Probably this is much easier than choosing what to uninstall with a root uninstaller.
I browsed the dev forum in search of a mature Froyo as you call it, but there are always users talking about issues. I don't have any issue with mine, I don't feel like looking for trouble just for the sake of having a custom defy. You were talking about Nordic. Are you referring to this one?

Because it looks like it's based on the leaked gingerbread ROM, not on froyo. Am I mistaken ?
Well my brother owns a defy, and he's fed up of 2.1. He is quite far away from where i live so he wants me to tell him the steps about getting gingerbread on defy although he's not in these kind of things so much. My question is, i own a zte blade and a samsung galaxy s. I can simply flash CM7 zip (clockworkmod) and i get 2.3 directly from 2.1...
So why for defy you have to flash 2.2 then flash 2.3 zip...i mean you either have to make a lot of backups/work to actually have an option to get back to 2.1 or you just loose 2.1 forever...isn't there a way to simply flash CM7 zip on 2.1 rom
you can't do that, first 2.2 after GB, if you need more information, i think you can read the section develepment of defy...
