Cos I know it supports "3G" 900/2100mhz just wanting to know if in anyway 850mhz has been disabled andcan be enabled.
A carrier here in New Zealand is using 850mhz and has 2100mhz as a fill in but 2100 in my area is limited.

No.

i wouldn't flat out say no. it is widely known that the HD7 will be coming to telstra in australia "early 2011". why do i say this? well telstra's 3G network is running on 850mhz.
so who knows, when it comes here you might get lucky.

Yeah a lot of people in the US on AT&T import Telstra handsets because the frequencies are the same, so when the HD7 gets released here it should do.

The tmobile hd7s dont have that band. so No.

just because the t-mobile one doesn't, does not mean all HD7 can't. I'm pretty sure it is similar to windows mobile where a different radio is flashed into the phone to get them to work.
In any case, the word around is jan/feb release for the HTC HD7 on the Telstra network.

I have a HTC HD7 already , It came from Germany.

The one youre talking about doesnt even exist yet. You habe no basis for disagreement, tbh.
The US HD7 doesnt have the band. Whether the Euro one does is up in the air (I'll check later).

doesn't even exist? sure it's not on the shelf, but tesltra were confident they would be getting it. why so negative for? did i ever say "yes it definitely exists"? no. i'm just saying that your flat out no shouldn't be taken as gospel.

AT&T Data Plan Pricing

I apologize if a thread like this already exists, I couldn't find it.
I'm planning on purchasing the Telus Desire with 850/1900Mhz 3G for use on AT&T once it comes out. However, I want to confirm that I can use the "dumbphone" unlimited data plan (which is $15 or $10 for families) instead of the regular, overpriced, capped smartphone plans. I do this currently on my Motorola Milestone so I want to make sure it works okay with the Desire. Can anyone on AT&T confirm this for me?
... nobody on AT&T will be able to confirm this with you because not even Canadians have this phone yet. But if they don't know the Milestone IMEI they probably won't know the Telus Desire IMEI.
Right, I know it's not out yet but I was more looking for someone with the regular Desire on AT&T who could tell me. (I'm figuring AT&T will treat all Desires the same way)
The imei is not registered with ATT. Therefore you can have as I do a 10 or 15 dollar data for quick messaging phones and standard flips.
You will have 3g wherever there is 850 mhz 3g. TElstra desire does not have 1900 mhz 3g, but ATT will have the entire network on 850 mhz 3g by end of the year.
What state are you in?

Correct, the Telstra (Australia) Desire is UMTS 850/2100. But the upcoming Telus (Canada) Desire is UMTS 850/1900.
Thanks for the info, I'm glad to hear that. I'm probably going to wait for the Telus model so I get full 850/1900 and I think I like the idea of the SLCD better than the AMOLED for outdoor use. And the off-contract price for the Telus Desire is rumored to be only $450, hopefully that's true Now they just need to launch the darn thing!

How did AT&T get the Nexus ONE IMEIs if they don't carry it. Is HTC handling them over?...
I assume the N1 is a special case... and it was released in the US.
The regular Desire won't work on 3g in the US uses different frequencies for 3g, so you have to wait for the North American version to come out. That's why people are saying that no one has one on AT&T

Using an Australian Phone On AT&T?

Hey Guys,
So I was trying to think, but I couldn't remember which carrier it was, but I'm almost positive that one of the Australian carriers uses the same 3g bands (HSDPA 850 and 1900) that AT&T uses, meaning you could import one of the phones heading toward that carrier in australia and use it on AT&T. I was thinking about doing this for WP7, but i completely forgot what carrier it is.
Does anyone know?
Telstra.
I've used a Telstra-branded HD2 and Desire (Android) on AT&T in the US, no problem.
I'm hoping Telstra picks up the Desire HD and the HD7 as well...because AT&T's WP7 phones are kinda sorry (nothing > 3.8").
It's Telstra. Only the 850 band is supported. I have an Australian 9193 HD2 and it works fine on At&t. I guess it depends if your area has 850 band nearby.
FYI their HD7 won't be out till next year.

Are you guys sure? I was looking at the Mozart page on Telstra and it's doesn't say that the 850 hsdpa band is supported.

Will hopefully have a Telstra one in the next week or two, will confirm when I have it.

Which one are you getting? The Mozart? I'm stuck between the Surround directly from AT&T or waiting for the HD7 on Telstra. I just have no idea when it's actually going to come out...

I'm having this same predicament also. Though I can afford it, getting an HD7 through telstra will be around $800 or more...whereas I could just get the surround for retail value since I am not extending my contract with ATT.
I have my Mozart
WP7 is very different there is no way, that I can find, to look at the band it is using.
It is very fast and I'm liking it.

It can only use the 850mhz band and 2100mhz. If you want NextG you'll need the 850mhz band (AT&T's). I can guarantee the Telstra HTC Mozart uses that.
Any updates on HD7 on At&t? Perhaps an unbranded one or tmobile. Data and 3g?

Above is 100% true
850MHz & 2100MHz at minimum.
Optus uses 900MHz and 2100MHz
Unsure about the other carriers, but its likely 900/2100 also (i think Telstra is the odd one out here)
Sorry for revive the old thead; buy if someone is looking for a at&t-compatible device, (with UMTS850/1900), more than at&t "native" devices; please check:

[Q] Anyone know of an "all bands" 3g Android phone?

Given the fun and FUD surrounding the AT&T-Mobile merge, does anyone know of an Android phone that can play 3g on *anyone's* GSM network? I noticed that the crApple Ipuke 4 has 4 3g bands (presumably so they can have "One SKU to connect them all") Are there any Droids with that capability?
There are some phones listed as "Coming Soon" under the tmo site that have all bands. I'm not sure that any are available at this time.

So far the only phone capable of ALL GSM Bands is Nokia N8. No Android or Windows or the Apple is capable of doing so as of now... iPhone doesn't support 1700...
AT&T might have such a phone in future if the merger ever happens... And man, that will be an awesome feeling to have a phone of my choice of OS and I don't have to bother being restricted with one career...
I am worried, if Canada will ever see that phone... :-(
The Samsung Vibrant has the 1900 band which works for AT&T (AT&T use 850,1900), so it may cover all area, but it works in NYC

Lol cell phone career giving you choice? Thats the best joke i have ever heard
Not sure what the original question is exactly, because GSM is really only one band around 900 Mhz. My understanding is this is normally used for EDGE, and 3G speeds / HSPA usually occurs only on the much higher frequencies.
And technically speaking, there is no GSM in the Americas, only in Eurasia. Here we have 850Mhz which should be referred to as CLR not GSM.
But if you're talking about Android phones that are 3G capable on both AWS frequencies (T-Mobile) and PCS (AT&T, Bell), check out the newly-announced LG G2X. Appears to have frequency bands for both, as well of course as CLR (Edge speeds).
The iPhone 4 does *NOT* have such a radio.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
The N1 has you covered on most bands, but not quite all of them. By the time the merger goes through, though, there will probably be more and better options.

Hahaha very funny, isn't it? Well, its not... cuz you obviously didn't get the point... Its not a choice given by career, its about the the contracts you have to go with... and if there ever is a phone which can support all the frequencies, it will give an option to switch between any GSM providers. Currently it is only possible with Nokia N8...
The G2x should support all popular bands.

[Q] Using the T989 in the UK

Hi, I want to buy a SGH-T989 but live in the UK. If I buy one from ebay, which has been unlocked, will I have any issues using it on a British network, specifically Vodafone? It uses UMTS at 900Hz and 2100Hz for 3G, though I believe most of the network is 2100 rather than 900. Since the T989 supports this, could someone confirm I will be able to connect to 3G? Thanks in advance for replies.

penataband for Europe?

Sometime a go, there was a thread about variants of GNEX, from comments I understand that all GSM are same, only radio software is different,
but on some sites it not mention all 5 3G bands, and only 3 for Europe,
also what about 2.4 and 5 Ghz for WIFI? is it also suffers for Europe or something? or not? I kind of stuck, I really want the device with all standard accessories, mostly the charger, and not search for it, after I buy,
and also be sure it support 850 & 2100 for 3G, the S have also many variants, as SII have toooo many of them, so how can I find out about that issue?
As I said in the other thread... They're all pentaband. Every single model. And yes they support 5ghz wifi.

Sorry yes. Obviously. You would've had to read the really long thread before where OP wouldn't take my word for it that any i9250 is pentaband...
I think I got it now, I just used to that for US & EU have different frequency devices, see I used to work to one of the mobile manufacturers, and we have sometime 2 type of devices, one for EU and other for US, and maybe it's hard to believe that unicorns exists, heh on the second hand, on old GSM it also not always a "world" phones so it do make sense,
and another funny thing, also 850 band I actually US, here in Israel we use it..because of the ARMY ...to make things even worse, the QUAD GSM no worth to much, as 2 of our providers that still have GSM, have only 1 frequency, the solution was to "share" the networks ,We do have HSPA+, but the future will be LTE ..dunno why, also no 4G here ,the mobile internet cost to much and slow as ****
