Just a question for the ROM developers, as I'm more of a hardware than a software guy.
My understanding is that the 8GB ROM of the incredible has 3 partitions; system (hidden from user), user (748MB usable), and phone (6.7GB, USB mountable).
Is it possible, even in theory, to have a ROM that would partition the 748MB + 6.7GB together into one drive that is not USB mountable, and thus, get rid of any issues with apps not using internal storage, or even needed to use apps2SD?
I apologize, haven't seen it asked in this context. If this is a dumb question, flame away, I have a thick skin to go with the dense head
The one and only bump I will give this thread in the hopes of an answer.

Hey all. I'm a newbie here, but not to forums.
I did search for this, and I'll be the first to admit I suck at searching.
I searched for "SD Card Size Limit" and looked at the threads that came back in the two pages. Needless to say, I didn't find the answer to my question.
I was wondering if it was possible to up the size limitation of the SD card slot? On the normal phones it is a ROM issue (theorectically), but I figured with the way you guys are able to cook up new OS's here, maybe you knew the file I could swap out of the OS to enable larger card support.
I've got an MPx300... I know I know... but I love the form factor and figured if one 2003 device could do it, likely they all could.
Thanks.
I don't want to dbl post really but I figured i might get some insight here as well on my post. Plus that thread goes so darn fast it'll probably get lost.
I posted this about the Godmode edition of Synergy for explination:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16805916&postcount=15318
This isn't a "please help me I can't wait a day for a response" post btw. I just want some knowledge, phones running great actually.
I tried to scroll a few pages in and didn't seem to get a reply. Anyone?
This is the right place to post. And godmode is a modification to the phones file system. Roms use a file system called "yaffs2" i believe that's what its called. And godmode is modififed to utilize both an combo of yaffs2 and ext2. The ext2 is stored on the sd card. So instead of just cacheing stuff in the yaffs2 its also stored in the ext2 which I'm not sure how it helps but that's godmode in a nutshell from my knowledge.
For more knowledge on it go to the first post in the synergy thread where the downloads are for the rom and next tto the link there is a link that says "whats godmode?" Click that and it will take u to an explanation from myn (the developer of the rom) as to what godmode is. Hope i helped answer your question

My original post was in the actual Synergy thread but as I said it goes so fast.
I have read his explanation but in all due respects is kind of generic. I am just trying to expand my knowledge like a 2yr old lol. Why Why Why.
I want to know what this is actually doing since I can run quad and get drastic variations in results back to back. I also want to know where the 70-100% gain is. I have always understood quad scores to not really be accurate as they are not phone specific. IMHO and again no disrespect there isn't the 80% increase in performance the quad results are telling me I have.
Also, since I posted this I have installed the V6 script. I can run quad and get roughly the same results as above but NOW my phone is very snappy and smooth. Something I would have assumed the upgrade to godmode would have done.
And one more time so I can reduce flames and misunderstanding. I am not complaining by any form of the word. My phone ran great with GM and non GM once i got them up and going. It runs better with V6. I just need to feed mah brain lol.
Hey everyone, I have an odd request:
I am looking for a Verizon capable ROM for the G-Nex that has as little of ANYTHING in it as possible while still being able to install .APK's, access 4g/WiFi/BT, WiFi Tethering in some workable form (be it inbuilt tether or support for Open Garden/wifi tether for root etc anything as long as it can be workable for a little while), and support Overclocking (or flashing a kernel that does...I have most paid control apps for the Gnex already so im REALLY flexible, ill buy any im missing if that's how we need to work it also!)
I don't care about ANYTHING else really, I can setup scripts as necessary if needed, aggressive memory management and CPU/GPU maximization on my fat 4g pipe is one goal anyways. Just maximum processor and RAM freedom for a project im working on where squeezing as much power and bandwidth from the device is necessary at this point. It wont be a daily driver or anything close, just a refinement on a proof of concept im tinkering with for some fun.
Ive considered building a ROM myself, but id have to VM or re install Linux again as well as figure out what I can rip out or not from scratch. I figured someone might have a "base" rom of some sort they used for dev work laying around that I could put to use, or hell id experement with an unstable build if that's all I could get that fits this idea, stability for now doesn't matter at all as long as I can TWRP restore if it eats the phone. Ive been rooting/modding android related stuff since the OG-Droid 1 (G-Nex is my 7th android) so I know the risks, no worries there.
Well, thanks for ANY advice suggestions, asking like this was my last resort but I figured if anybody had help it was XDA or Rootz. (Maybe there's another rom close to this that I could strip MORE? Dunno..advice?)

Anyone know of a great "Guide to the Note 2", NOT just a guide to rooting, but the whole shebang?
I'm no noob, with just about 2 years on my (launch day) HTC EVO 4G (OG4G), including some modding and dev-ing.
I was a very proud MYN-ion...using mostly Myn's Warm or Synergy, and getting friendly with the entire community while developing skills I was proud of. BUT, it's been a while since I really did any serious stuff and I finally got a new Galaxy Note II.
I already rooted, and put TWRP 2501 on it, and have tricked out my stock ROM a bit, but when I went to install DTA2SD I discovered this phablet has a completely different file structure. So now I'm feeling a bit lost and want to know EVERYTHING about this phone so I can get up to speed as on the OG4G.
So, I repeat, Anyone know of a great "Guide to the Note 2", NOT just a guide to rooting, but the whole shebang?
Thanks for your help.

don't know of a guide, but sounds like you want to look into dev subforum, which is in the international variant.
yes, how storage is setup on the GN2 is different. Its the same as the S3, and I assume S4. I believe it has to do with profiles in Android. I believe there may be script to use to get App2Sd to work. Otherwise, you need to use something like FolderMount or DirectoryBind. I know there is another script where you can tell the phone the internal storage is the SD card and the extermnal memory is internal storage.

Thanks very much, but I'm still looking for a good, comprehensive Guide to the entire phone.
There are SO MANY things about this phone that are not in the manual, or anything I can find from traditional sources online... The manual hardly even touches on the S-Pen, and from what I've read it's capabilities are impressive.
So far, after rooting and putting on TWRP 2501, I've been able to build a very usable phone simply building on the stock ROM. Before I try any Custom ROMs, I REALLY want to know ALL the phone's abilities...
Check this out.

Awesome, Wiley, thanks.... I usually don't like videos as they're dependent on the "narrator's" personality/talents, but these are prolific so I'll have to check them out.
I would still like a "User's Guide" or a "Tips and Tricks" manual assembled by (hopefully) XDA Members. On the EVO 4G, we had such an immense, awesome community of "Myn-ions" (revolving around the Developer MYN who wrote the 2 best ROMs - Warm and Synergy) there were a few of those, in addition to the MOST resourceful community one could hope for. There was never a single thing you couldn't learn from someone and the exchange of ideas and information was a constant thing.
I learned how to theme, develop ROMs, tweak, etc from them all while usually laughing my ass off...
I'm hoping, since the Note 2 is so popular, I'll find that "community spirit" in this group!
it'll be popular, but I think the S3 or S4 series will be more. It's cheaper. Luckily, there are quite a few similarities, so you can definitely learn a few new ideas
As a side note, I think you probably have a solid ground work. Sounds to me you need to learn more about Touchwiz if you're going to build from the stock rom. I don't think Samsung has released anything much on the Spen to be able port more of it's functions into an AOSP. There is the SDK for it, but I assume it's Touchwiz based. It's possible the feature beyond the the basic touch commands could be built into the framework.

Here is a wealth of info on the Note II. This forum has some really helpful people too.

Congrats on your new toy! After 6 months with mine I haven't seen anything else that interests me.
I find calling Sammy or googling your questions get the quickest results.
Howdy folks. I'm not much of a developer, so I need a bit of help trying to make my concept a reality. Obviously if I'm successful, I'll give credit where credit is due. That being said, I'm looking for a way to hard-brick Android devices from either within the OS itself, or from a custom recovery, preferably TWRP. A kind of "self-destruct", if you will. And it has to be doable, or at least triggerable, from Android itself, so I can set it up to be activated remotely, via Tasker or what have you, nothing that I would need to connect the phone to a computer to use. So I guess what I need is either a script, or a recovery flash zip. I'm hoping for a universal solution, so it could be used for any Android device, not just mine. But if that's not available, my current devices are a T-Mobile S3 (obviously), HTC One, Motorola Xoom LTE (aka Wingray), and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (P600), and I'd like to have it working with any and/or all of my devices, at least. So, is there any way I can achieve this?
On a public forum accessible to unregistered users, such a discussion can and will open a can of worms. Yes indeed there are ways to do this. However I am sure ways of wanton destruction will violate XDA rules. Who knows, some unsavory folks came across this and sent it as a bomb to all ? You see where I am going ?
Having said that, I think your genuine intent is to make your device unusable in case of theft. Towards this, there really are several nice apps and services. Starting with Google's own Device manager to Where's my droid and quiet a few others. Please explore what they can do.
You're right about my intentions, but I don't just want to wipe my device if it's stolen, which is all those apps can do. I want to render it completely unusable, so whoever has taken it can't do anything with it. So what you're telling me is, if I DO come up with a way to do so, it's probably not a good idea to share it here?
Edit:

I'm not looking for something to send to my phone. I'm looking for something that would take an extensive set-up procedure. Something like a script, started by Tasker, in response to a VERY specific text message. Or maybe instead of a script, a zip being flashed, although I haven't quite figured out how to do that with Tasker yet. You're probably right about the XDA rules though, I didn't think about that.

Device encryption and Screen lock are supposed to serve precisely that exact purpose you are describing. Please explore. Do understand some of the other apps in the category of Lookout do offer a lot more features and functions. Please explore one or two of them.
