[Q] What comes closest to a plain vanilla ROM? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know a ROM that comes as close as possible to a clean, vanilla Android OS as possible? You know, standard UI, only basic functions and as few apps as possible.

The best AOSP experience we have on the DHD right now is Cyanogenmod. You have the choice of the very stable 6.1.3 release based on Froyo 2.2.1 or some alpha builds of 7.0 based of Gingerbread 2.3.1.
Actually the Gingerbread builds are working very well and stable, great battery life, with only the occasional annoying glitch.

I'm still waiting for ...

After udk's release of his ROM's based on the HTC leaked froyo a lot of other Froyo Sense ROM's based on his one have been appearing out of the wood work here and at Modaco. Personally, I think HTC sense sucks, its just too complex, GUI inconsistent, a useless waste of RAM and ugly. Although the release of this was a big step toward complete Desire Froyo ROM, I am still waiting for a vanilla sense-less Desire Froyo ROM with good 720p capabilities. Is it possible?
AdamG has mentioned that 720p is not on the top of his list of priorities, and that he is more concerned about ironing out bugs.
ahmgsk has hinted at a sense-less version of his ROM if all goes well.
I don't know what the final CM6 RC1 release will be like, maybe it has this feature enabled. From what I have seen and heard, CM ROM's are not vanilla.
Regarding a wish-list for the ultimate ROM, what are YOU still waiting for?

Looking for AOSP Rom

Hi, I recently upgraded from a HeroC to an Evo, I was running just a plain AOSP 2.2 rom on my HeroC (found it worked a little better than CM6), I was wondering if there is something similar for the Evo since I am having the random wake lock issue with CM 6.1.2. I have taken a look and seen Evervolv (tho the download links for the 2.2 version seem to be broken and the newer versions are based on 2.3 with GPS issues) I have also read about MIUI and might be checking that out just wondered if there was any other stable 2.2 AOSP roms out there.
I highly recommend miui. Try a liquid metal rom...its not aosp but its not sense either. There are aosp gingerbread roms.
Two choices.
MIUI: Aesthetically superior to all other roms, good performance, tons of extra features
CM: Performance superior to all other roms, visually solid AOSP
Thanks for the input, I am setting up MIUI now, like some of it, not sure about other parts. I would love to run CM, but I get that "random" wake lock bug, that kills my battery. I will run CM7 once GPS is stable, just looking for something to tide me over.

turn off screen like old TVs

Hi, I was watching some Gingerbread videos, and there's an animation when the screen turns off, and it looks like a old TV being turned off. does anyone knows if it's available for a froyo ROM?? (no senseHD)
No it's not a feature currently available on any froyo ROM's as of yet. It is a feature which comes with Gingerbread ROMS, or is included via CynagenMod features. There is no reason why they couldn't bring it to a froyo ROM, but it is unlikely.
If you want it though, why not just upgrade to a gingerbread based rom such as oxygen CR7 or GingerVillain 1.1? Both of which have this feature.

thanks a lot, but i really like sense based roms, i'll wait for some release, thank you
I liked stock DHD rom, w/sense of course, until I've tryed the cyanogenmod cr7 based on android 2.3, and the difference is huge!!! Now my phone goes a lot faster and this this old tele power off effect is only a drop in the ocean. So why you don't just try it out?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
This feature also comes with the Redux rom
i have with The redux Rom

ROM ideas?

For the life of me, I can't get used to AOSP after trying Sense 2.0 (the factory one).
It looks too bland, and it seems so featureless compared to Sense roms. (I'm a big sucker for UI looks). I love the current ICS ROMs, but I want a fully functional one as a DD, so until the camera and other glitches are fixed, I'm looking for a daily driver.
Do you guys have any ideas? I would return to stock Sense 2.1 (Virtuous Sense, probably) but after having tried some Sense 3/3.5 ROMS, the 2.1 generation feels OLD.
I know the Desire Z wasn't meant to run Sense 3/3.5, but maybe you guys have ideas for other roms?
P.S.: I have tried MIUI, it's good for the occasional lookup, but it's too iOS-ish for my taste.

Sense vs Senseless ICS ROMS

Im looking for a stock ICS ROM, where the user experience is as google intended but still makes the most of the HTC hardware.
This is my first android phone and im currently running CyanogenMod 9 - Endeavor Unleashed | 017, which I really like - minus the bugs...
How will a ROM like this compare to RENOVATE 2.1.0 | SUPER FAST, which is a sense ROM with a ICS style launcher over on.
Will it still have all the ICS style menus, contacts, animations?
Which will run faster and more stable?
cheers,
maybe the renovate is more stable because it's based on sense, but the experience of cm9 and aokp is more pure ics, and you have a lot of personalization and theme!
With a powerful device like the One X, a ROM's speed can be mostly a subjective feeling. As far as stability goes, I tend to lean towards Sense-based ROMs, at least until all the AOSP ROMs iron out their bugs. Another reason for favoring Sense-based ROMs is the retention of the Sense camera. Other cameras seem to have trouble with overexposure because of the f/2 aperture.
In summary, a Sense-based ROM that strips out most of Sense, leaving only whatever is required is a good bet, at least for now.

Try Slim ICS or Paranoid rom..both based on cm9 but with added features...both great if you ask me my friend..
Renovate is based still on sense framework and uses a few sense apps still...i do recommend that as well. New update will be coming soon so id wait for that if you want to try...for now as the poster above said i would go and try Renovate..i know the developer and nothing but good dedication from him
