I'm currently running SuperVillain after development on Pinky stopped. Both these ROM's are fairly free of bloath and run very stable. VillainROM has also ceased development of their Desire ROM's so I'm looking for a new alternative which hopefully will continue to be maintained.
Requirements:
- Sense
- Bloat free
- Based on latest official HTC ROM
Currently I'm looking at LeeDroid and AuraxTsense but I'm also interested in the new HD sense versions. Is camera still a problem? I read some where the camera works but 720p gives green. Are they worth trying or just stick to official based ROM's and wait for HTC to release the Gingerbread ROM with hopefully the new Sense?
Which ROM do you advice?
HD ROMs can't record in 720 but everything else is working with the camera, and you can view 720 videos (although some are a bit jumpy)
Other than that they're spot on
Leeroid 2.3b should see you sorted
fast, stable, and sense.
Tried an HD ROM but still a little buggy for my needs.
However the Leeroid developer now has a Desire HD so who knows how long the ROMs will be updated for

Currently running Leedroid and liking it. Gave Oxygen a run first and have to say it's damn good but I kinda missed Sense a bit. Especially the Sense contacts application which easily allows to link all sources (Google, FB, Twitter etc...)
I have tested 4-5 roms, and all have some problems.
What is the perfect ROM now? Not HD.

There is no perfect rom, there is only a rom you like best. Other people can tell you what they prefer but that does not have to apply to your preferences.
If you want to see what the most popular rom there is a poll some were in general.

did u try Leedroid?
It's all up to you. I'm using Oxygen 2.0 and I love it. It's missing the video camera function until the N1 OTA update but I have never used that anyways so I'm more than happy with it.
I personally use MIUI, brilliant rom but confusing updates, they realease new software all the time to its virtually bug free for me.
It has too many features to list, i find something new and by the time i found all the extras they release another update.
Try MIUI, its like a iphone but you can easily change the theme.
Battery life is somethin else and im using there stock kernel, 17 hours, sync on, wifi on, auto brightness (actually works) and mild to heavy use.
I'll try MIUI
Tried LeeDroid, MIUI, Oxygen (1.0 and 2.0), VillainROM, GinerVillain, SuperVillain, DeFrost, CM6, CM7, Ginger Redux, Amethyst. To be honest, I currently have CM7 installed but I am constantly changing ROMs anyway. CM7 to me actually works the best out of the Gingerbreads. I would say that if you want speed, stick with MIUI if you installed it since I got 2135 score in Quadrant (MIUI 1.1.12). But it is up to you. There is NEVER the "best" ROM.
i have tried about 10 different roms and i think insertcoin for hd is nice also leedroid is very good and fast
for me starburst, it is very stable, almost no issues at all. stock sense rom + the magnificent data2sd. i used to flash a rom once in a while, but now..im sticking to starburst. maybe its for a long time.
The op should be more specific in what he looks for, is it sense, non-sense or miui rom?
I find Sense ROMs more appealing than other two, and my favorites are Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
Leedroid is very fast, I used it for more than a month, but found that some memory leaks are happening to me and a few other users. It is a deal breaker for me at this time since the phone becomes unusable when it happens until rebooted, so I swinged back to AuraxTSense. It's performance is also admirable, it boots somewhat longer, but at this time it seems more reliable than the Leedroid. Both are equally fast and snappy in operation. Also snq's kernel has some quirks at this time, the phone rebooting itself when connected to a car cradle, screen turning on during charge being some of them for example.

CM7 Every Build till now has major issues at the moment (major for me for some none) as MMS and VPN don't work.
I am using the Redux-RC2.1 running gingerbread 2.3.2 in a very smooth way - highly recommended. VPN issue hasemt been solved yet but should be in the upcoming RC3 coming soon from the developer. MMS is not an issue and working great

Yes it works!
I've been using HiApk for a while now, loving it's speed. It's problem free so far.
Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
In my opinion there is a perfect rom.. Oxygenrom
It has a very fast and stable base, perfect power menu configuration
All functions like camera and gps work proper and rom feels really smooth
Depends on what appeals to you but personally, AurxTremeGinger or Reflex S do it for me.
Asking what the best rom is, is like asking what the best car is.
I found Redux v1.2 is a brilliant Rom Clean, fast and stable.
At the moment I test the InsertCoin v17 Rom and I found also it is a very nice Rom.
There is no perfect rom at the moment...
- Froyo sense roms are the most stable (Leedroid, Teppic's, AuraxTSense...) but they are not the fastest. (I think we can add HD/Z roms in this categorie)
- AOSP rom lack of some features like 720p, FM radio, HTC apps and widgets ; there is also this endless call delay bug. Despite that, they are the fastest roms at the moment and they can be very minimalist (and I'm sure a lot of people like minimalist roms like DevNull or Oxygen)
- MIUI is quite interesting but settings menu are so slow.
- New Sense roms begin to grow up, but I think the fact we are porting RUU from other devices to our Desires affects the quality of those roms.
Back in the day with WinMo I loved MightyROM because he made an awesome ROM but mostly left the look and feel of stock. He didn't mess with a ton of stuff just because he could and I always appreciated that because it was rock stable. I rely heavily on my phone for business, it must be stable for all the things I use it for. I see the new "official" leak for Gingerbread and I want to give it a shot but I see these other ROMs that are now popping up thanks to the leaked kernel/libraries/whatever. They have higher versions of Sense (which I rely heavily on) and it makes me debate should I jump past the leak? So my question is this:
Which ROM past the modified Sense 1.0 in the official leak retains the most stability combined with new Sense updates? Even though 3.0 is available I'd be happy with the 2.1 that my wife is now rocking on her EVO Shift via another official leak. Which of these is a proper port from a phone with almost identical hardware, etc., so I know it's going to work flawlessly?
Skyrader is a sense ROM with lots of cool stuff from CM7.
Uber stable to.
I second the SkyRaider nomination. His ROMs have always been stable in my experiences. SR 2.5.2 (I believe it was that version?) was the first ROM I actually ever flashed lol.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running CM7.0.3.
I agree Skyraider! It is heavily themed Sense 1.0 so it looks sweet, has tons of customization and has the stability of stock. I have flashed all the new Sense 2, 2.1 and 3.0 roms but I always come back to Skyraider.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I have been using Gingerbread Remix, its a beta but extremely stable. It's based on sense 2.1 but has sense 3.0 features like the lockscreen.
Skyraider looks like it's still Froyo though, if I'm going to go through the hassle of re-setting up my device I'd rather do it with actual gingerbread, not just themed gingerbread.
well, then you're gona have to look at the very few gingerbread roms out there since it's brand new. there's some in the development section that are PLAIN stock gingerbread sense; then there are some that are themed. i'm on optimized gingersense right now which seems real nice, and root is uploading a new release now that includes some sense 3 goodies, so you might wanna look into that.
I'm on Gingersense remix by wdfowty. It's sense 2.1 but with all the nice sense 3 features that you would want. Lockscreen, message and phone apps.

I've been loving SR 4.0 with Lous #8...but i recently moved over to the Uber kingdom rom and I'm hooked. It has so much potential...wouldnt quite recommend it for a daily driver yet unless you are the patient type
Stock Kingdom is pretty solid now that it's in alpha 2. Only issue I've had is with Rosie, so I just installed launcher pro. Problem solved.

This rom is amazing. Give it a shot, you won't regret it!
Do any of them have any issues with Exchange activesync?
+1 with GingerSense RmX, great ROM, great Sense 3.0 integration, stable as can be, only problems I've had with it are related to MMS but that's cause I didn't wipe before the update :/
I'm also running the GingerSense ReMix Rom, they just released beta 3 today, its been very stable for me. Just keep in mind its still beta.

None that I have found yet... I have flashed newtoroots and Wdfowty's sense 2.1 Roms.
I run sky raider as my daily. If you are looking for something to set up and run for a while, I'd go with sky raider 4.0. You commented about not wanting to reset everything up. The Ginger sense ports are betas and each release requires full wipe.
SR 4.0 is currently the most stable feature packed sense rom. Waiting for ports or leaked gb builds to get more stable then ill switch. Would love a skyraider rom based on the Inc Gb leakĀ”!
I am using the Stock Plus v3.01 ROM and loving it.
I must admit though, the only reason I am using it because I love HTCs voice recognition keyboard and I didn't know how to get that into CM7 on my Droid Incredible!

Thats really good information. But how do i know weather I am running AOSP or SENSE? Like I said I have the OTA Unofficial 2.2 Froyo Update, and I know AOSP means it started from scratch but I dont know wether the Rom i installed is, how can I figure this out through the phone or can you just tell me
It sounds like you're on a sense rom. Sense is HTC's skin for android, it adds certain functionalities and features (primarily social networking). If you have HTC apps (check settings>applications>manage applications) then you're using a sense rom. Do you have HTC sense widgets available to add to your screens? Then it's sense.
Chad has an incredikernel for froyo (android 2.2) sense roms, it should be near the bottom office the OP of his incredikernel thread. If you want to use his latest kernels, they are only for AOSP gingerbread (android 2.3) roms. AOSP roms for the incredible include cyanogenmod, MIUI, OMGB & OMFGB, IncDeck, evervolv, and liquid light.
I suppose you could say AOSP (android open source project) roms are built from scratch, but it might be more accurate to say built from source, the source being Google's. Just about every phone is shipped with the manufacturer's "version" of android on it, sense for HTC, blur for Motorola, touchwiz for Samsung. Only Google's nexus devices ship with the unmolested "stock" version of android, and that's why they are always the first to receive updates. Hopefully this info helps!

Alright can you help me locate a Rom of my liking?
I really like the Stock rom, but I want a AOSP Rom. I basically just want it to have the Stock HTC Launcher but I dont want it to be so slow for instance, for me Skyraider 4.2 is slow because it takes five times the length of time for it to Boot Up then using the Stock 2.2 unofficial OTA.
Is Binny Rom a AOSP rom? And I dont want to lose the 8MP camera or 720p HD Recordings.
Well, if you need 720P, there aren't any AOSP gingerbread roms that will work. Also, if you want the HTC launcher, you'll need to be on a sense rom, there's no way to use it on AOSP.
That said, what are you looking for in a rom? Skyraider is a very solid rom, and will be very similar in functionality and stability to the stock rom. I don't know why it would take so much longer to boot, are you using the stock skyaider kernel or another one?
Let me know what features you have to have in a rom and we'll figure it out. Unless you read through all the rom threads (like I do for some reason), it can be hard to tell what the feature and especially functionality differences are.

I used the stock kernel for sky raider. I believe Sky Raiders is a sense rom isn't it?
And basically I want something that is stable with no foreclosures. With the stock rom I have never had a foreclose. Something that i can customize the look of easily I loved sky raider for that but then i want to a AOSP rom to have the liberty of messing around with my phone better. I really don't mind the hd recording I just want to keep my 8mp camera.
Also can't I install a launcher from the market to give me stock looks?
If u tell me sky raider is also then i will keep that one
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
You're right, you can install a launcher from the market and should be able to find a sense-like theme for it if you want. I'd recommend making a backup of your current rom, then flash the latest cyanogenmod nightly. The nightlies have some newer features that the "stable" releases don't have, and they're just as stable, if not moreso. With CM7, you have a TON of options for themes and modifications, and its always been perfectly stable for me. Look around in the android themes section and search "CM7 theme" on the market to get an idea of all the ways it can be customized.
With CM7, you won't have 720p video recording, but the still camera can be used at full resolution. There are an unbelievable amount of features and tweaks that CM7 adds, I'd recommend looking through the wiki on their website and browsing the threads in the development section. If you don't like it, you can always restore your backup. It might be fun to check out some of the new gingerbread sense roms too, if you like the sense interface. Those roms aren't as stable or fast as CM7, or froyo sense roms (like skyraider), but can be fun to mess around with.
Hi guys, new to the desire community.
Which Rom is better for daily use?

Which ROM do you like the most? Which one of them to you works the best? Ask yourself a few questions, and when a specific ROM always comes up first you'll find your answer.

Thats the same question as the OP but adding an extra variable. See Timmaaa's response
I've found that pretty much any Sense GB ROM has glitches here and there, whether it be MMS not sending, camera flash timing, video playback stuttering etc etc etc.
About 4 days ago, I went back to Leedroid 2.5.0 and although it's only Android 2.2, it just works as it should.
The only thing that bothered me was that there are no toggles for wifi/Bluetooth etc in the notification bar, but there's a little mod to flash that enables that as well, so now it's spot on.
I'd recommend this for daily use.

That's because the "any Sense GB ROM" you referred to are all ports! Naturally, there will be bugs. Anything based on official HTC RUU-GB Roms like Supernova, Teppic, Alex-V; or Froyo Roms-StarBurst, old Leedroid shouldnt have issues.

Lol, I guess!
My main gripes are:
- Camera capturing images just as the flash is switching off, so pics come out too dark
- Audio and Video being out of sync on videos recorded with the camcorder, when the resolution is set to anything higher than 640x480
(I have a 3 yr old son, so the camera/videocamera gets used a lot!!)
So what about your ROM?
Can you confirm whether these issues are apparent in it?
I've been reading about it and it sounds great, but there's no point flashing it if these issues occur!!
Many thanks
Unfortunately, I've not really tested these details specifically on SuperNova (my work is mainly based on advanced system scripts), and cant test it at the moment, since...wait for it..I'm on my Froyo Rom, StarBurst If I test it out later, I'll update this thread with my results
The reason I switched back to Froyo was the superior network and wifi drivers, which will never be solved on GB Sense without source/a better Ruu..

Hmmm...
at the moment, GB AOSP ROMs are relatively more stable than the GB Sense ROMs (with Sense 1.9, 2.1, 3.0 and 3.5 or hybrid/2.1+3.0)
GB Sense ROMs are still not yet mature (my opinion) and as usual, maturity increases along with the developing time.
If you want really reliable ROMs, use Froyo Sense ROMs or any other AOSP or MIUI ROMs.
BTW:
I am now on GB Oxygen (http://forum.oxygen.im/)
and waiting for ICS
I really really hope the devs can come up with stable ICS for daily usage.
