[Q] How to install CWM 3.0? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, how do I install CWM 3.0 on DHD? I installed 2.5.x.x the old way when i first got the DHD, so I tryed look it up in the old guide, but the thread is updated and now says you can install cwm thru rom manager, but i dont think its possible to use rom manager to install 3.0? Correct me if im wrong, still new to this android stuff
I have downloaded "ace-cwm3.0.0-26thdec.img".. Just need the commands to install it

Rename that file to recovery.img move it to ur adb folder (that folder that contains fastboot.executive) and type in cmd,
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Thanks, I succesfully installed it, but when I try to format system using cwm 3.0 I get a error, is this normal?

I wasn't even aware this was available for the Desire HD yet.

delete stock apps solution

i have an htc desire running fryo
i have rooted it using unrevoked3
i can see and have used superuser icon on phone
but still titanium backup pro cant recognize whether my phone is rooted or not.busybox not able to install even when clicking on problems in titanium(thru net as well as manually)
i need to delete stock apps from phone,so i tried using adb shell on win7 as well as android terminal emulator on phone.either ways i get directory not found or read-only file system error
cant get to remove these apps through root explorer as well
i tried installing clockworkrecovery for nandroid backup but there are two wayts according to:
wiki link
first method(thru rom manager) is not working as not able to download
second method requires alpharev which inturn requires a safety nandroid backup(which requires clockwork recovery mod)
is there any other method for installing clockwork recovery method??
There is only 1 way to permanently flash a recovery and you need to be s-off to do it. You have to use the fastboot method or use the android flash utility. To remove system apps you have to be s-off anyway so there's no avoiding it.
As I was saying, rom manager temporarily fake flashes the recovery but for the desire its the old recovery 2.5.0.7.

[Q] Flashing derire...problem

Hi,
Whenever i try flashing htc desire with alpharev cd method...i get an error as soon as my device is found..sumthing like cmd.exe not found
please help..
HTC DESIRE..with android 2.2 rooted with unrevoked 3.2
please guide
Do i need to put the bravo_alphaspl.img file in my ph first and then try the cd method..
or first i have to go thru the cd method
then palce the img file on my ph and use it thru boot loader??
please guide as i am totally confused and i dont want to brick my ph
Is your phone in USB-Debug-Mode and connected with "only charge/ never ask for connection mode" to your computer?
Maybe it's because htc sync is installed?, i've never heard of that error before..

With the alpharev cd method you start computer from a cd with a linux-live-system, which was only made for s-off. So your OS installed on harddisk does not start at all. Therefore HTC Sync, which is usually installed on windows, or rather any program installed on your computer is unable to disturb.

You just download the alpharev iso to your hard drive, burn it to CD and boot from that, following on screen instructions.
I had a problem with "device not recognised or unsupported at this time" and I wonder if yours is similar. I had stock sense 2.2, rooted with unrevoked 3.3.2.
As soon as I flashed a rooted, non-sense rom (oxygen as it happens), it worked first time!
I have tried almost evrything..still i am not able to make alpharev work for me..
I dont want to flash a new rom..cos the only thing i want is some extra internal space by deleting some system apps..
so is it possible to re-root my ph using unrevoked 3.32 ( as it provides s-off and nand unlock which will allow me to install bb) from unrevoked 3.2 directly
or should i first unroot unrevoked 3.2 and then root it with 3.32
You have rooted your phone with unrevoked right? So you must have a revovery-system. Do the following:
1.) Download an AOSP-Rom like oxygen or defrost (which i used without any problems)
2.) Copy the zip on your sd-card
3.) Reboot your phone into recovery
4.) Do a complete nandroid backup
5.) Do a full wipe (nandroid backup won't get deleted)
6.) Flash downloaded AOSP-Rom
7.) Reboot phone completely
8.) S-Off your phone with alpharev by following the steps on the screen after booting your computer with the downloaded cd
9.) Boot your phone completely
10.) Reboot your phone into recovery
11.) Restore nandroidbackup
12.) Reboot phone
13.) Have fun with S-OFF and your previous rom
I did it so a few days ago and it worked properly without any problems ;-)

Finally i was able to complete the flashing part with livecd method..
thanks ppl for the help
now i have another noooooob ques..
why do i have to flash hboot with bravo_alphaspl.img??
what is the use of it??
and how to do it??
i placed the img file in the root of my sd card and tried to access it in the fastboot mode but i didnt find ""flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img"" option there
so what am i doing wrong??
also i did a nandroid backup..now how should i check the md5sum generated in the backup??
another thing...i rechecked the system folder properties through es file explorer..and it still says that the folder is not writable?? and still i am not able to install bb in my device...
Download the .img file
Then download Android Flasher
Then select HBOOT and choose the partition table you have.
What's the use of it? I think it was explained a million times in various threads/ROM threads etc. - shortly more internal memory for apps (ROM dependant).
You have to check the root exlorer- option in the settings of es datei explorer. But it only works for CM and HIAPK- rom... imho you have to buy root explorer to get the best root exploring.

clockwork mod recovery v3.2.0.0
THANKS GUYS I AM WAITING FOR REPLY !
Flash the Sense Fix: (This needs to be flashed in Clockworkmod 3.x, so, dont use ROM Manager's Clockworkmod. Use your "main one")
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156713
And Guide to get 165MB Free: (Make sure your SDCard is a decent one, not a cheap knockoff, else performance will suffer)

thanks for reply let me do this
i am using Samsung 2GB card
witch recovery is enable for wildpuzzle rom ????
my recovery is 3.2.0.0 how i downgrade??
or what i have to done for installling direct wildpuzzle.zip ??
To use Recovery 2.5
Download ROM Manager
Click Flash Recovery
Wait
Click Reboot into Recovery
???
Profit
Just follow the ROM Manager Technique for using Clockworkmod 2.5. Its the one and the same thing, and there is no benefit of installing "directly" compared to installing through ROM Managers Clockworkmod. WildPuzzle and Other Sense ROMs need version 2.x
Or, if you necessarily have to downgrade, use Fastboot. There is a short how-to guide here:

Use Fastboot. Refer these 2 Posts, I'll make a proper guide later, time permitting:
Download the Fastboot Win Tools from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
Then, Follow this Post to setup flashing the Recovery Properly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15647068&postcount=17
Then, Download Clockworkmod Recovery 2.5.0.7 from here:
http://www.multiupload.com/PSIIJNBD4E
Place the IMG file in your Fastboot Folder. Open Command Prompt in Windows, and type the following:
cd\
cd Fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(I am assuming you placed the downloaded tools in a Folder called Fastboot under C Drive)
i done thanks aloot bro

maybe it was 2.3 dont remember...
hey there.. you should have got an nandroid backup before you had your firmware updated.. but no worry.. we will work that out.. the sim problem maybe because your radio or RIL is not new and so on... so you should first update your radio and ril.. but before that get yourself a custom recovery... i recommend the latest ClockworkMod which is 5... google 'flash custom recovery on htc desire' then download the ClockWorkmod 5 from xda (desire version) and flash it.. after you had it finished check it by booting into recovery either by passing out the 'adb reboot recovery' command in adb shell or holding down vol-down + power while powering on and selecting recovery from the bootloader menu (the menu you will see after you hold the buttons).. you should see the blue recovery saying clockworkmod 5.. if so then download the compatible Radio and RIL for you phone from xda then flash them using recovery..( copy the zip files into your sd card ( you can mount your sd to usb using clockworkmod recovery option in Storage/Mount - > mount usb storage -maybe different) then first flash the RIL .zip using install .zip from sdcard option then reboot again to recovery and install the Radio .zip using the same option) then copy the leedroid .zip to sd using the instructions above and flash it again using install .zip from sdcard option.. then test .. if succeed you are lucky.. if not flash an OTA update (the official HTC firmware) you can find it in the net... i will be happy to help you better. if your problem not solved pm me!
Apparently Rom manager has caused all kinds of problems on the desire. On the android forums http//androidforums.com/htc-desire/ they advise you not to use it. Hanging at the htc screen is a common problem. There is however some advice on recovery.

[Q] CWM and command file

I am trying to install a custom rom an my HTC one X using only my pc. I got it to automaticly install the boor.img file etc.. but only the install of the rom itself using CWM recovery is giving me some trouble...
I can add some commands to /cache/recovery/command and CWM will execute those when it is booted in recovery, but i can't find anywhere what kind of arguments the CWM recovery can handle...
I tried:
--wipe_data
--wipe_cache
--set_encrypted_filesystem=off
--update_package=/sdcard/Android_Revolution_HD-One_X_5.2.0.zip
the last one is doing something, but it sais it can't find the file. One time i got it to find the file(i forgot how ), but then it said the verification failed and it stopped.
But when i select the file manually it installs just fine.
Can anyone help me give me the available arguments for the CWM recovery? I can't find them anywhere...
Or maybe tell me how to install a custom rom using just a pc, and not touching the device.
Thnx!
as far as im concerned CWM doesnt support usb on the HTC One X yet.
so you'll have to copy the file to your external sdcard and flash it through CWM itself
Yes i know that... But i can add arguments to the /var/recovery/command file using adb... When added the arguments I can reboot into recovery and CWM tries to execute those... I only need a argument to switch signature verification off...
