i have an htc desire running fryo
i have rooted it using unrevoked3
i can see and have used superuser icon on phone
but still titanium backup pro cant recognize whether my phone is rooted or not.busybox not able to install even when clicking on problems in titanium(thru net as well as manually)
i need to delete stock apps from phone,so i tried using adb shell on win7 as well as android terminal emulator on phone.either ways i get directory not found or read-only file system error
cant get to remove these apps through root explorer as well
i tried installing clockworkrecovery for nandroid backup but there are two wayts according to:
wiki link
first method(thru rom manager) is not working as not able to download
second method requires alpharev which inturn requires a safety nandroid backup(which requires clockwork recovery mod)
is there any other method for installing clockwork recovery method??
There is only 1 way to permanently flash a recovery and you need to be s-off to do it. You have to use the fastboot method or use the android flash utility. To remove system apps you have to be s-off anyway so there's no avoiding it.
As I was saying, rom manager temporarily fake flashes the recovery but for the desire its the old recovery 2.5.0.7.

two days ago, i rooted my phone using simple root, nand unclocked and flashed clockwordmod and everything. i was using fresh rom, and i wanted to use the vanilla lockscreen. but in order to do that, i needed to flash amons ra. i tried doing that, and somehow i got rid of my clockword recovery mod (and amons ra didnt work) so whenever i went into recovery mode, it just stayed at the screen with the phone and triange and red exclamation mark. i tried running the recovery windows .bat file, but it didnt work. and i tried running the ruu .exe file to unroot my phone, but everytime it said it couldnt find my device, even though it was connected via a usb chord. i tried it in charge only mode, disk drive mode, and htc sync mode and none of them worked. i tried using rom manager, but everytime i tried doing something it said error attempting to run privilidged scrips or something. i tried downloading the superuser .apk file and installing it onto my phone, but that didnt work either. the terminal emulator didnt work when i tried to flash something, it just said it couldnt find the file on my sd card, even though i put it on there. help?
Okay, number one: Did you try holding volume UP + power at the red exclamation screen? I think that's how you enter AR recovery.
Number two: You can flash Fresh tweaks without using AR. You just have to reboot into ClockworkMod and flash the .zip files manually.
Are you able to boot ANY ROM right now? If so, is it rooted? If it is, try to reinstall ROM Manager.
Sounds like you went a little off the deep end when you couldn't get into AR.
any suggestions?
Yeah, answer my questions or provide more info so you can get better direction.
you can reflash either recovery with the simple root program or you can follow the first part of toasts root method part 2 to restore recovery.

ill try your first suggestion. and i cant boot any rom right now, because rom manager isnt working. and im pretty sure my phone is rooted, because i still have dev tools and CIQ settings and all those rooted apps.
update: your first suggestion worked, except once i entered AR recovery, the only options i had were: reboot system now, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition. at the bottom, it said "E: can't open /cache/recovery/command,

i tried reflashing with simple root but it didnt work. can you give me a link for toasts method?
i had a similar problem, i used the OTA simple root, get that and plug ur phone back in with debugging on , one of the drop down menus will let you flash a recovery so flash clockworkmod
okay so somehow i managed to unroot it by wiping my data/cache..but now whenever i try using simpleroot or OTA simpleroot it doesnt work, because it says device is not found. i have it plugged in via usb, usb debugging is on, and ive tried it in charge mode and disk drive mode. anyone know what the problem is?
I'm sure there is a way to fix this, but I would suggest using the full root method by toastcfh.
okay i'll just reroot using that method, thanks. also, whenever im on my computer and im using command prompt, none of the adb commands ever work. do i need to download something for it to work?
Yes, you need the ADB framework. Read the guide (or the one by TheBiles, which is basically a rewrite). The ADB framework is a part of the Android SDK. You have to run ADB commands from the ADB directory (which is actually the "tools" folder inside of the SDK directory, wherever you extract that). Just cd to the tools folder, then run your commands from there.
Hi,
Whenever i try flashing htc desire with alpharev cd method...i get an error as soon as my device is found..sumthing like cmd.exe not found
please help..
HTC DESIRE..with android 2.2 rooted with unrevoked 3.2
please guide
Do i need to put the bravo_alphaspl.img file in my ph first and then try the cd method..
or first i have to go thru the cd method
then palce the img file on my ph and use it thru boot loader??
please guide as i am totally confused and i dont want to brick my ph
Is your phone in USB-Debug-Mode and connected with "only charge/ never ask for connection mode" to your computer?
Maybe it's because htc sync is installed?, i've never heard of that error before..

With the alpharev cd method you start computer from a cd with a linux-live-system, which was only made for s-off. So your OS installed on harddisk does not start at all. Therefore HTC Sync, which is usually installed on windows, or rather any program installed on your computer is unable to disturb.

You just download the alpharev iso to your hard drive, burn it to CD and boot from that, following on screen instructions.
I had a problem with "device not recognised or unsupported at this time" and I wonder if yours is similar. I had stock sense 2.2, rooted with unrevoked 3.3.2.
As soon as I flashed a rooted, non-sense rom (oxygen as it happens), it worked first time!
I have tried almost evrything..still i am not able to make alpharev work for me..
I dont want to flash a new rom..cos the only thing i want is some extra internal space by deleting some system apps..
so is it possible to re-root my ph using unrevoked 3.32 ( as it provides s-off and nand unlock which will allow me to install bb) from unrevoked 3.2 directly
or should i first unroot unrevoked 3.2 and then root it with 3.32
You have rooted your phone with unrevoked right? So you must have a revovery-system. Do the following:
1.) Download an AOSP-Rom like oxygen or defrost (which i used without any problems)
2.) Copy the zip on your sd-card
3.) Reboot your phone into recovery
4.) Do a complete nandroid backup
5.) Do a full wipe (nandroid backup won't get deleted)
6.) Flash downloaded AOSP-Rom
7.) Reboot phone completely
8.) S-Off your phone with alpharev by following the steps on the screen after booting your computer with the downloaded cd
9.) Boot your phone completely
10.) Reboot your phone into recovery
11.) Restore nandroidbackup
12.) Reboot phone
13.) Have fun with S-OFF and your previous rom
I did it so a few days ago and it worked properly without any problems ;-)

Finally i was able to complete the flashing part with livecd method..
thanks ppl for the help
now i have another noooooob ques..
why do i have to flash hboot with bravo_alphaspl.img??
what is the use of it??
and how to do it??
i placed the img file in the root of my sd card and tried to access it in the fastboot mode but i didnt find ""flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img"" option there
so what am i doing wrong??
also i did a nandroid backup..now how should i check the md5sum generated in the backup??
another thing...i rechecked the system folder properties through es file explorer..and it still says that the folder is not writable?? and still i am not able to install bb in my device...
Download the .img file
Then download Android Flasher
Then select HBOOT and choose the partition table you have.
What's the use of it? I think it was explained a million times in various threads/ROM threads etc. - shortly more internal memory for apps (ROM dependant).
You have to check the root exlorer- option in the settings of es datei explorer. But it only works for CM and HIAPK- rom... imho you have to buy root explorer to get the best root exploring.

hey guys i am really lost and i am trying to figure out wat to do but here is my problem i am trying to root one of my friends evo and he did the latest evo update and for some reason i cant root with unrevoked and my sdk revisions is taking forever to update is there quick and painles way to do it or no one cick roots yet??
Unrevoked hasn't worked since Froyo, at least 6 months ago. You used to be able to use Revolutionary to root gingerbread, but since the latest update the only way to root it is to use the HTCDEV unlock method.

Theres no one click app that works yet,but you can try revolutionary root...
1: Download and install HTC drivers HTC drivers
2: Download the rooting tool/program revolutionary . You will need to enter in your Evo's serial number (under the battery) and be sure to save the beta key. You'll need it later, you will also need to copy and paste, sometimes it won't take if you type it in.
3: Enable USB debugging (settings>applications>development>turn on USB debugging) and connect the evo to your PC as charge only
4: Un-zip the S-OFF tool and run the program, making sure to install the custom recovery when prompted. (unless you already know what you're doing and want to put Amon_Ra or TWRP recovery on there)
5: Download SuperUser and boot into recovery. To enter recovery: power off completely, yes battery pull while off too be sure, then hold volume down+power and from there go to recovery and confirm.
6: install superuser from recovery (you must put the Superuser zip on the SD card first, before booting into recovery. Or mount your SD card while in recovery to take it too your Evo. OR, download it too your phone before booting into recovery )
YOU ARE NOW ROOTED.
7: (optional but highly recommended) Make a nandroid backup via recovery and then put it on the PC just to be sure nothing will happen too it.
Now you said your friend installed the new update, there has been an issue with rooting after the new update, because the bootloader was updated and locked. If thats the case, then go here .

Unlock bootloader via HTCDEV method.
Flash your custom recovery.
Mount your phone, move your ROM zip onto your SD card.
Reboot phone/bootloader/fastboot then in your cmd prompt (pointed to your SDK folder) boot your phone into your recovery.
In your recovery flash the zip file of your preferred ROM.
Okay so here goes. I used to own HTC Explorer. I successfully rooted it and used many ROMS on it. Now I own Desire V. I decided to root it and flash a custom ROM. Here's what I have done so far. I used the HTCDev bootloader to unlock my phone. When I start my phone using the the Volume Down + Power button and try to select the Recovery option I cant seem to do so. I cant take any screenshots at the moment but here is what Im seeing. Once I click the power button to choose Recovery option, the screen reloads and shows a symbol which consists of a phone and a 'recycling shaped circle(to arrows forming a circle)'. Now ideally after this I should be sent to the recovery options (ie. install zip from sd, wipe data, recovery and backup etc.) But instead of this, I see another symbol, this time a phone and a RED EXCLAMATION MARK. So it seems that I cannot enter Recovery mode. I have not yet installed Superuser or the Clockwork mod. I try to do this by installing superuser and clockwork from play store (this time im running the phone normally (no fastboot or anything). Firstly I cant install the clockwork because it says superuser not found. I tried installing superuser from bootloader (install zip from sd) but I can enter the root mode hence I cant do it (in fact this is how I noticed that I cant enter the root mode). Note that when I start my phone on bootloader mode, it DOES say Unlocked at the top, hence I believe that the primary steps where you use the HTCDev site to unlock were succesfull. Im stuck at installing clockwork and superuser.
Also, when I try to uninstall bloatwares i cant do so saying permission was not granted (I believe this is because a a proper and complete rooting process requires installing superuser as well, which will grant me access) I installed Superuser from Play store (as mentioned above) like a normal app and also checked the settings in it for permission but it still wont let me uninstall. So forget installing custom roms, but I cant even delete bloatware without touching or removing the stock rom. Please DO NOT link me to the thread leading to HTC all in one root kit.
TLDR : Provide me with a short (if you are lazy to write a wall of text) tutorial on what to do after I unlock my bootloader from HTCDev site. I have not yet installed or updated clockwork mod, or superuser; also I cant enter recovery mode (one below fastboot option)
[SOLVED]
Ok I it was nothing big. Turns out I downloaded a corrupt copy of the clockwordmod.
Hoping someone can help me completely unroot my htc one X.
Background:-
CID HTC__001
Previous unlocked bootloader officially, rooted and installed custom roms
followed unroot guide on here including restoring a nandroid backup (I used Nandroid Backup 4.18.401.2 CID HTC__001)
flashed 4.18.401.4 update patch from here
flashed recovery included with above patch (i presume that's the stock recovery?)
relocked bootloader
I can't see either supersu, superuser or busybox installed. Checked the system/app system/bin and system/xbin.
I installed Titanium Backup to test if it was still rooted and it says it is (Root access: OK (BusyBox 1.19.4-Titanium from app) SQLite: YES (SQLite 3.7.6.3-Titanium included))! Any ideas?
Anybody? I've ran out of ideas!
For those of you on stock rooted ROM on the HTC One X (not a custom ROM), it’s very easy to unroot your rooted HTC One X.
You will need to basically do is remove the su binaries from /system/bin and /system/xbin folder, also remove Superuser.apk from /system/app folder.
Then we will re-install the stock recovery, which will completely unroot your rooted HTC One X just in case you need to return the phone for warranty or other miscellaneous reasons.
Download ES File Explorer app from the Play Store and run the app
Choose Menu->Settings.
Make sure “Root Explorer” and “Mount File System” are checked ON.
Choose “Favorites” then hit “/”.
Browse to /system/bin/ and /system/xbin/ directories and erase any files named “su” if they exist. (they should exist in both or just in one of the directories.)
Next, go into /system/app/ directory and erase Superuser.apk.
Doing Step 5 and Step 6 completely removes root and Superuser from your phone. We are almost done but you have to re-install stock recovery
Hold down Volume Down and Power button together for about 10 seconds until you are in bootloader mode. Choose “FASTBOOT” and hit Power button and connect your HTC One X to your computer via micro-USB cable.
Download OneXUnroot.zip and unzip to your Downloads folder.
Open up a command prompt for Windows or terminal for Mac/Linux and type:
cd Downloads
cd OneXUnroot
For Windows:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
For Mac:
chmod 755 *
./fastboot-mac flash recovery recovery.img
For Linux:
chmod 755 *
./fastboot-linux flash recovery recovery.img
Next, you will probably want to do a factory reset in stock recovery to clear all your personal settings and apps. You can stop here though if you are not returning your phone to store.
Hold down Volume Down and Power button together for about 20 seconds.
hoose “RECOVERY” and hit the Power button. You should also noticed that your HTC One X has been “RELOCKED”.
Once you get a screen like below, hit the Volume Up and Power button together until you see blue menus, which is the stock recovery.
Choose “Wipe data/factory reset
Choose “Yes”. When it’s done, simply reboot.
Your HTC One X should now be completely back to factory status
Make sure you backup/erase all of your personal photos/videos on the internal storage of your HTC One X before you return it for warranty

I tried this. There was no superuser.apk in system/app though. I then ran titanium backup & it confirmed it now had no root access. I already have stock recovery so didn't refresh. when I restart the phone though the binaries are both back & tb is reporting it now has root access. This is so frustrating!
Thanks for your help so far. Any other ideas?

lock bootloader
go in the recovery
wipe dalik chace,chace,data,system
then run
RUU
put ur HTC One x Stock in and run (get the correct RUU for your device) and that is it dont forget to backup
I don't think I can use a RUU as my phone was updated past the last RUU published. I'll try find another stock nandroid to restore then run the guide you gave again. Thank you
I've managed to completely unroot my phone and posting what I did here in case it helps anyone here. In the end it was pretty simple (frustrating getting there!)
Backup anything you need from your phone
Download stock rom (4.18.401.3) by mike1986 from here
Ensure bootloader is unlocked
Boot to custom recovery (I used CWM6032)
Full wipe etc
Flash rom through install.zip
Flash boot.img
flash stock recovery.img (see mike1986 link)
(optional) relock bootloader in fastboot - fastboot oem lock
Update to 4.18.401.4 via OTA update (won't work unless you installed stock recovery)
I tested it by installing Titanium Backup which couldn't get root access (perfect!)
