Was wondering if it is even worth it to update hboot, I pre-ordered my evo from best buy so I have a 002 hardware version with white spots on my screen, not willing to trade for a refurbished haha. My hboot version is 0.79 with s-off

I would not update hboot. .79 is one of the better hboots imo...plus it isn't hard to mess up your phone by upgrading hboots

There isn't one. The new ota is for 0002 and 0003 hardware evo's only.

So I just got a new EVO HTC 4g do to the techs at Sprint messing up my power button they gave me a free phone, my question is how can I root my phone, I've heard 2.3.3 with the latest HTC software update can't be rooted help. Thanx in advance.
Enrique Casas
yep, you cant root yet. no exploit has been found yet for 2.3.3
No root man. Gotta wait. Sorry
Or you can do what I did this morning with my wife's phone with 2.3.3. Go to your local Sprint repair facility and tell them that you absolutely hate 2.3.3 just tell them it glitches and won't stay connected for most calls and you get random reboot. (That's what my wife's was doing) and demand them to downgrade you to 2.2... I don't have insurance on our phones so I paid $35 and they did it. Not so she could root but because she was really having problems since she got the OTA. She's now back on 2.2,with 3.70.651.. so could root if she wanted..

Ya right..once updated can't go back.the hboot has already been updated on her phone. So no root for her phone..

Oh, oh well she doesn't want to root anyways lol. Good thing I guess.

I have had my evo for about 6 months. About a month ago I noticed none of my computers were able to recognize my phone any longer. I decided to just use FTP for transferring files. the other day however, my wall charger stopped working. I now have to wiggle it around until its in just the right spot to charge. My phone is rooted with custom rom etc. What should I do about this? Take it to sprint or mail it to HTC?
This is not damage from anything I have done, so I really don't want to pay $100
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Either place you'll get a refurb.
Good thing about htc is that youll get your housing back, just a new board. You can either throw a stockish rom on there or unroot it. Its a matter of opinion on which should be done.

Thanks for the reply
Will both charge me 100$ most likely? A friend told me HTC might not charge me.
I can just flash a stock rom without having to unroot? I also have a custom bootsplash.

I just did mine with HTC for free because I didn't think i would get a refurb. sprint will also be free if you have tep.
I would advise fully unrooting for HTC.

Same problem, seems to happen to quite a few people. I don't feel like wasting my time sending it in, and just use a wall battery charger, along with 2 Anker 1700 batteries, so I always have one charged at all times, its easy to switch the new when when needed. I like it much better than having to have the phone connected to a charger, I never worry about that now. Two Anker 1700, and two stock OEM batteries, and Ankers seem to get quite a few more hours of life, amazing boost for such a cheap price for two batteries and a external battery wall charger.
What would be the easiest way to unroot in your opinion? I don't remember the method I used to get root.
That's a great idea about the batteries and external charger. I will definitely keep that as an option. Thanks.

Your unroot method depends on the method you used to root. If you go to the bootloader and it says revolutionary at the top and you have hboot 6.16 then you s-offed with revolutionary. If you have s-off with hboot 2.16 or lower you used unrevoked

It looks like I used unrevoked as my hboot is lower than 2.16. Should I follow this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151733
Or is their a more up to date method?
I had the same issue. I went with the spare battery and wall charger route myself. seemed easier than unrooting and using insurance. being this way for 6 months now, and its really not an inconvenience. just gotta change the battery once a day.

Yeah just download and flash the s on tool zip in recovery and download the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your sd card and then boot into the bootloader and let it update that PC36IMG.zip
Reboot and then power off and back on while holding volume down and check to make sure your s on. That should be it.

If i was you I would just flash stock ROM that's ill I have ever done, no questions asked. That's at the sprint store

I went with external charger and extra battery. Seems to be working great. Thanks for the awesome help and info everyone.

Hi guys
I got this Evo 4g but can't root it, I use revolutionary but it says that my hboot 0.99.0001 is not supported!! is there anyway to root it or to upgrade my hboot?
thanks
That is not a HTC evo4g hboot or a shipped firmware that I'm aware of

Think you have the HTC evo shift 4g. If you have a physical keyboard its the HTC evo shift. Might want to head over there

I need help! My Wildfire won't turn on, screen and red light flashes but no boot screen???
I was updating my Wildfire S and all went well but when it try to reboot it stuck on flashing blank screen and flashing red light. I cannot get into anything (Bootloader, Recovery etc). Only way I can stop flashing is to take out the battery but when I insert it back and push power button it starts flashing again. I can't get into anything.
I searched for last three days and didn't see anybody having same problem. I would really appreciate any help. Hard brick has been described in Google as no respond from phone (no lights nothing etc.) so I am hoping (and praying) there could be something done based on the symptoms.
What kind of flashing? Does the phone vibrate at all? What was your bootloader version and were you s-off?

I would take it back to htc and tell them that it died during an official update. If you were s-off you might have been able to do something about it. Sorry bud

Exactly the same for me ... grey flashing screen with red LED after try to update with RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe
Any news ?:crying:
It's hardbrick. If u r soff u could jtag to fix it.
What happened is, u removed battery/some error caused not to update, after updating one radio/hboot the other hboot/radio. As radio hboot comes as pairs, one can't live without the other. So your radio is killed by the bootloader. And the phone is dead.
I posted around one hundred comments about this. Nobody listens.
Don't go to latest radio/ hboot from 0.90.0000. Do step by step. As the latest hboot/radio isn't compatible to oldest.

You can JTAG without s-off. Its just the cost of one will probably outweigh the price of the phone. You could try taking it to a repair shop And asking if they do JTAG repairs. You might find someone willing to do it for a reasonable price.

S-on cannot fight against the JTAG. It would be completely counter productive for htc to make their devices protected from the devices they use to fix damaged phones. JTAG takes control of the CPU and can force new firmware onto the nand. S-on or s-off, shouldn't make a difference as the JTAG is mounted to the motherboard of the device and can actually "trap" the processes that the CPU issues and issue them one at a time! JTAG is the man when it comes to bricked device revival

You guys don't know what you are talking about :d As for op question if you still got waranty go take it there. Otherwise I think it would cost around 30 euro to get it fixed. Nothing else can be done.

If you got 3/5 vibrations then ur phone is in qualcomm diagnostic mode
here is a thread related to that:
