Volume - and Power....No effect - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
Just got a brand new HTC desire ( 2.1-update1, Orange branded )
S/W 1.22.73.1
From what I read, I shoud have acces to HBOOT, holding Volume - and Pressing Power down...
( Volume - is this button on the left side of the case I assume ?)
nothing happens...The Desire starts as usual...
I'm the only one with this "feature"
Info greatly appreciated...And happy new year !!!

yes volume - is the button on left side (the button used to down the volume)
you havo to switch off the phone, wait 2 sec. then press and hold "volume-" then press power button just for 1-2 sec. keeping volume- pressed. then release all keys and the phone go to hboot screen.

Hi DarkAngel
Exactly what I did...press Vol -, then press Power, then release Vol -...and the thing boots as normal.
If, in addition, I press the trackball while I replay the above scenario, after a few seconds I'm getting a white screen with Htc logo...and a few seconds later, the Desire boots up...( initial boot where to have to enter yr PIN code...)
What am I supposed to get if the tel behaved as expected ?
Strange no ?

You don't release volume down until the HBOOT screen comes up

Arrrrgh !!!
i found what was wrong...the culprit is my SIM card !!!
Once removed,i've got the Hboot screen (tells me that I have HBOOT 8.03.0001...)
next step, save the whole system ( make an image ? ) and, once this is done, i'll jump to the Goldcard stuff...
Any way, thks very much for yr concern !!!

you have to use unrevooked to root your phone and install a custom recovery (Clock Work or amon-RA)
after this go into hboot (vol- and power) wait 2-3 sec and (using vol + vol - you can move the selection, using power button you confirm the selection) select "recovery"
the custom recovery start
to navigate use the optical pad and click it to confirm selection
go to backup&restore
then backup
after this in sd card will be created a backup of your phone (called nand backup/nandroid backup)
use "back" key to return to clockwork menù
then hit reboot
(i have to restore the backup immediatly because at the reboot my phone goes in boot loop)

Another problem...unrevoked3 does not seem to work for me..
I think I did things allright ( uninstall htcSync, install good USB drivers, have tel in debug usb mode);
unrevoked starts, I see hte Desire beiing rebootd several times but at the end, instead of Done!, i'm getting an Internal Error message : am reported error starting service;
stictly no idea where it comes from !!!
thks again for yr help...

install htc sync
remove only htc sync (not htc driver and htc bmp driver)
connect the phone activating usb debug
install driver that comes with unrevoked
the run unrevoked with "run as admin"
use unrevoked 3.22 it worked for me

Hmm am i the only one, who haven't seen this hboot version before? Mine have 0.93 something. Never seen 8.03? Are you sure that's what it said?

I'm guessing a typo and it should be 0.83

Finally i've got it !!!
i've been given a new version of unrevoked ( a modified 3.3 I think...) which worked...
i've been able to root, make a backup...and now, i'm ready to get rid off my branded Rom and get a custom one...
Thks guys for yr concern...helped me much !!!
cheers

why my Desire cannot boot into HBOOT menu

Please help ...
Any MOD please delete this Thread!
Cant see anything to help here .....
Sorry ... sorry..
I turn the phone off, press the power button and volume down ... I don't see any HBOOT menu.
I have change the option to disk drive (under PC connection) ..
First Volume Down (hold) then Power!
What did you want to do?
Flashing Recovery Image with Unrevoked?
I am trying to
(1) unroot using Painless root by UnrEVOked
(2) flash a cooked ROM
Did you downloaded the hboot driver?
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/l...unrevoked.com/recovery/android-usb-driver.zip
U should connect your Desire to pc and mount USB Storage and only after this run unrevoked.exe in admin mode Hboot mode should enter automatic.
Sry for my english ;-)
Edit: I think u want to root not unroot ? =)
The steps is as follow
1) Download the unrEVOked modified USB driver and expand it somewhere you will remember.
2) Turn off your phone, then boot it into the HBOOT menu by holding power and volume down.
3) Connect the phone to your Windows machine with a USB cable and wait for the phone to say HBOOT USB PLUG on screen
I am stuck at #2
You are completely powering the phone off first, aren't you? Then hold volume down and tap power keeping volume down held until hboot comes up.
Try put your device Power Down and start it with back + power then select Hboot mode with power button.....This should help ;-)
please help.

HTC Desire Loop problem
Hi All,
Been reading the threads, having had this problem with my HTC desire:
Went to a Boot Loop this morning and I haven't yet performed the CLEAR STORAGE function. Called HTC to complain that I have to loose my data and asked them if they can help deleting some of the data on the phone's own memory, so I can restart it. I think the problem occured when the low memory message appeared. From HTC told me that they cannot do that for legal reason.
Does anyone know how I can access the phone memory, delete some data and then restart it, rather than CLEAR STORATE it, since I will loos all my sms and phone book, setings, etc...
Please if you know, let me know.
Thanks you
Plamen
To boot your Desire S into hboot by holding ‘back’ button down, your SIM card should be inside the phone.

lmfao relax. Hold your volume button down, hold the end key down(the button you hang up the phone with) then push the power button.
When your phone boot you should see a gray screen that say serial, plug your device into the computer and serial should change into usb. Then run the rom and there u go

Doesn't that trigger Ramdump mode (well, I don't know what that means, actually)?
All the OP needs is to go to Bootloader Mode to flash a ROM via USB. Bootloader is easily accessed by: Turn off phone, then press/hold Volume Down + Power button.
thanks guys, ive been using android, and never a minmo device, thanks everyone!!

If you read the sticky posting on Task29, you would see it tells you that this is normal behavious for Task29, and it also tells you how to get out of it

Sortof. I just tried task29 for the first time a few days ago. I freaked out when I got in the same situation as him, but then read through the thread. There's the option of shutting the phone off, and pressing vol down + power key. I ended up doing vol down + power key + push reset with stylus at the startup screen. Simplest solution for me.
taking off the battery, istnt that simplest?
Amd here is the theme about this

In the very first posting of the Task29 thread, it says :
When phone boots to "Touch Pro 2" screen (or whatever your splash screen happens to be), I hold down the volume down button while hitting the reset button.

IMO, the smartest thing to do is when Task29 is near 100% (I think it pauses at around 96%), hold down the Volume Down button. That way, when the phone (tries to) reboots, it goes straight to Bootloader.
thanks all you have been more than helpful, ive been using this site for a while (for my android device) but just recently made an account. All of you keep on getting it done!!!

Hey, I have a Touch Pro2 and I tried the key combination above and it didn't work for me. I did get it to work however using the send key (green button) instead of the end key....
I.e, held volume down button, held send key and pressed power key once... ;-)
Phone MUST be off before doing the key combo...

Failed to boot into recovery

I succesfully installed the Rcmix hd v6.0.0.1 but now I cant get into recovery. I get a white HTC screen when I try enter it. Anything else works fine :S
Download ROM Manager from the market, and reflash it from there.
i tried it but no, i reverted it back to .5 and it works now but idk
Press vol-down and power. Keep them pressed until eng hboot prompts in. Select "boot recovery"

You shouldn't need to keep them pressed. For me I just hold vol- and as soon as I've pressed the power button (and it's obvious it is powering on - normally instant) I let go.
Just as a by-the-by comment, being someone that looks at a lot of posts I see more issues with RCMix ROM than any other especially about recovery or flashing (even taking into account the popularity or it).

[Q]Can't access Clockwordmod Recovery after Cool Sensation flashing

As the title already says,
I'm stuck at an endless boot loop of the HTC logo and the volume down + POWER button doesn't get me into recovery again, like the option gone. So I'm stuck and I can't flash the boot-up FIX image since I can't access Clockworkmod recovery as I really only used this to flash images. Any help would be highly appreciated and it's rather urgent to me.
Thank you.
Turn the phone off
Click in trackpad. Hold
Click on volume down. Hold
Click on power. Hold everything until you see tge white hboot.
Press vol down to RECOVERY
Press power.
Et voila.

For some strange reason that doesn't work either. I will keep on trying your method until someone gives another solution... Well my volume button wasn't always sensitive so I needed to click hard, I will try though. Thank you as for now.

OK, another method:
1. Switch your phone off
2. Keep pressing the Back button
3. Power phone on (Power button) while keeping the Back button pressed
4. Check if "BOOTLOADER" is marked", if not select it by using Volume up/down buttons
5. Press Power button
6. via Volume up/down select "RECOVERY"
7. Press Power again
You are in Recovery and ready to flash / restore / backup etc.
EDIT: if you volume down button is out of function you can "scroll" with the vol. up button as well. If you reached the top of a list, it will jump to the bottom automatically.
Settings> applications> fastboot. Untick.
Power down. Power up+volume down.
Fastboot location might be different though. It is in applications for me.

I had a similar issue, but I wasn't stuck in a bootloop. Couldn't access recovery using vol-down at all, I could access it using ROM Manager, but it loaded the bundled version (3.0.0.5) not the installed one (2.5.1.8). Weirdly enough, selecting 'reboot recovery' in the 'temporary' recovery rebooted me into the installed one
The two posts above fixed it for me though, just unticking 'fastboot' wasn't enough - it just stopped it switching off (it would always reboot immediately!), but holding 'back' while it was rebooting got me into HBOOT.
I did discover that if I pressed and held vol-down while the htc white screen was showing it would start in 'safe-mode' - That was a shock, thought I'd caught Windows
It started right after I installed a new ROM, I don't really understand how that could affect it but I'm going to try a different one now to see if the problem goes away.

similar problem
Hi, I'm new and also noob, so sorry
I have same or similar problem...
I made update from A2.2 to A2.3.3 official ROM from HTC for HTC Desire and than I found custom ROM with Sense 3.0 - Cool Sensation v7.
I made S-Off and I have HBOOT 6.93.1002 now. Tried to instal custom ROM, everything installed good, but after rebooting system is still in boot-loop and a can not instal boot-fix because I still get error regarding some error about edify...
Some like this:
"amend script(update-script) is no longer supported
amend scripting was depreceated by google and android 1.5
it was neccacery to remove it when upgrading to clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted."
Can someone help me? Thx.

[Q] [HELP NEEDED] desire hd bootloader won't open

I have a desire hd which was previously at Android 2.3 Sense 2.1. I used AAHK2 fastboot mode to install custom unlocked hboot. After custom hboot was installed, I downloaded the official update for Sense 3.0 Android 2.3.5. The update downloaded and booted into recovery and it stuck on the recovery. After some time, the stuck still remained so I removed the battery and tried to reboot into bootloader but instead of bootloader, the same recovery opens which is stuck. Please help sorry for my bad english.
Bootloader not opening nor phone showing any response when I connect it to PC in semi-recovery state.
can you more cleared explained what do you mean by "semi recovery state"?
is the phone still can turn it on..?
what happen while you tried pressing and holding vol down+power button...?
