What did you want to do?
Flashing Recovery Image with Unrevoked?
I am trying to
(1) unroot using Painless root by UnrEVOked
(2) flash a cooked ROM
Did you downloaded the hboot driver?
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/l...unrevoked.com/recovery/android-usb-driver.zip
U should connect your Desire to pc and mount USB Storage and only after this run unrevoked.exe in admin mode Hboot mode should enter automatic.
Sry for my english ;-)
Edit: I think u want to root not unroot ? =)
The steps is as follow
1) Download the unrEVOked modified USB driver and expand it somewhere you will remember.
2) Turn off your phone, then boot it into the HBOOT menu by holding power and volume down.
3) Connect the phone to your Windows machine with a USB cable and wait for the phone to say HBOOT USB PLUG on screen
I am stuck at #2
You are completely powering the phone off first, aren't you? Then hold volume down and tap power keeping volume down held until hboot comes up.
Try put your device Power Down and start it with back + power then select Hboot mode with power button.....This should help ;-)
please help.
i try to install froyo rom.
after flash FroYo_inkreDroid (14.07.2010) rom (throught standart flashrom procedures by update.zip) the device will not boot into os. i try update modem and after this the device win not booting to hboot menu.
i try press both combination (back key + power and volume down + power). the result of both combination is: 7 short vibro signals and black screen.
please help me, how me recovery my device.
thnx and sorry for my english.
HTC Desire Loop problem
Hi All,
Been reading the threads, having had this problem with my HTC desire:
Went to a Boot Loop this morning and I haven't yet performed the CLEAR STORAGE function. Called HTC to complain that I have to loose my data and asked them if they can help deleting some of the data on the phone's own memory, so I can restart it. I think the problem occured when the low memory message appeared. From HTC told me that they cannot do that for legal reason.
Does anyone know how I can access the phone memory, delete some data and then restart it, rather than CLEAR STORATE it, since I will loos all my sms and phone book, setings, etc...
Please if you know, let me know.
Thanks you
Plamen
To boot your Desire S into hboot by holding ‘back’ button down, your SIM card should be inside the phone.

Hi all
Just got a brand new HTC desire ( 2.1-update1, Orange branded )
S/W 1.22.73.1
From what I read, I shoud have acces to HBOOT, holding Volume - and Pressing Power down...
( Volume - is this button on the left side of the case I assume ?)
nothing happens...The Desire starts as usual...
I'm the only one with this "feature"
Info greatly appreciated...And happy new year !!!
yes volume - is the button on left side (the button used to down the volume)
you havo to switch off the phone, wait 2 sec. then press and hold "volume-" then press power button just for 1-2 sec. keeping volume- pressed. then release all keys and the phone go to hboot screen.
Hi DarkAngel
Exactly what I did...press Vol -, then press Power, then release Vol -...and the thing boots as normal.
If, in addition, I press the trackball while I replay the above scenario, after a few seconds I'm getting a white screen with Htc logo...and a few seconds later, the Desire boots up...( initial boot where to have to enter yr PIN code...)
What am I supposed to get if the tel behaved as expected ?
Strange no ?
You don't release volume down until the HBOOT screen comes up

Arrrrgh !!!
i found what was wrong...the culprit is my SIM card !!!
Once removed,i've got the Hboot screen (tells me that I have HBOOT 8.03.0001...)
next step, save the whole system ( make an image ? ) and, once this is done, i'll jump to the Goldcard stuff...
Any way, thks very much for yr concern !!!
you have to use unrevooked to root your phone and install a custom recovery (Clock Work or amon-RA)
after this go into hboot (vol- and power) wait 2-3 sec and (using vol + vol - you can move the selection, using power button you confirm the selection) select "recovery"
the custom recovery start
to navigate use the optical pad and click it to confirm selection
go to backup&restore
then backup
after this in sd card will be created a backup of your phone (called nand backup/nandroid backup)
use "back" key to return to clockwork menù
then hit reboot
(i have to restore the backup immediatly because at the reboot my phone goes in boot loop)
Another problem...unrevoked3 does not seem to work for me..
I think I did things allright ( uninstall htcSync, install good USB drivers, have tel in debug usb mode);
unrevoked starts, I see hte Desire beiing rebootd several times but at the end, instead of Done!, i'm getting an Internal Error message : am reported error starting service;
stictly no idea where it comes from !!!
thks again for yr help...
install htc sync
remove only htc sync (not htc driver and htc bmp driver)
connect the phone activating usb debug
install driver that comes with unrevoked
the run unrevoked with "run as admin"
use unrevoked 3.22 it worked for me

Hmm am i the only one, who haven't seen this hboot version before? Mine have 0.93 something. Never seen 8.03? Are you sure that's what it said?
I'm guessing a typo and it should be 0.83
Finally i've got it !!!
i've been given a new version of unrevoked ( a modified 3.3 I think...) which worked...
i've been able to root, make a backup...and now, i'm ready to get rid off my branded Rom and get a custom one...
Thks guys for yr concern...helped me much !!!
cheers
Hi,
I've locked my phone yesterday and I've found a problem that doesn't let me unlock the device. I couldn't unlock and reboot the phone, so I took off the battery and placed it on and started up the phone. It freezed again on the unlocking. Tried this a couple of times - same problem. It has no wallpaper, the SD card reacts very slowly, the network also, and the screen doesn't turn off by itself if you don't do it so. Sometimes I can't even answer a call, it shows somthing like "Application not responding. Wait/Force close". I doubt it's the HTC Sense broken down or something similar. Please help me, I need my phone very quickly!
P.S. The phone is NOT rooted
Thanks!

You will lose all your data by doing this.
Boot into the bootloader (power off, press and hold volume down, press and hold power).
Wait for some green writing to appear and then disappear (about 7 seconds).
Use the volume down button to navigate to "clear storage", then press power.
Once this is done, reboot the phone and hope for the best.
----------------
If this doesn't work, make a goldcard (google how to) with any other android phone you may have, insert the goldcard in your desire
download the latest WWE RUU (look on resources in my guide)
boot into fastboot mode (hold back & power) and plug it in via USB to your PC
Run RUU.exe and do not touch the phone til it completes.

Well thanks man for the work, but I'm kinda n00b at all these phone system stuff, is there any other way that has less consequences than this, I mean, no losing all the data stored?
no, not without a properly functioning device.

I do not get all of what u are saying, but if you can't move in hboot your problem is probably a bad sdcard. Try using a different one..

I think you will have to start again all process. Check if you have all USB driver installed ( if not, download HTC Sync from HTC site, install, reboot your system, then remove HTC Sync from your PC. JUST HTC Sync, not other diver wich have been installed ). After that process can be started. Check USB debugging and see if "charge only" is selected ( uncheck "ask me every time" ).
When the process start, choose 1 and let it to work. It will do everything without your help . When phone goes to hboot menu, you will see "volume up to ..bla bla...and volume down to ..bla bla. Only then hit once volume up. Now everything it shold be fine.
Ok i will try to explain what happend.
1. I done everthing like in instructunions,
2.Downgrade started copy files and so one, then it started all stuff in the phone some bares apears, extract stuff.
3. I must choose items with voluem keys it doesnt work, so i picked the first with power key.,everything goes fine.
4.hboot starts voluem keys doesnt work, power key also.cant even shut down with power key.
5.if i restart phone normaly, its freeze at htc logo
6. i if start phone with volume - and power key ,hboot appears but voluem keys doesnt work.
7.i plug usb ,start the phone with hboot , pc doest react ,like its not pluged in.
8 i plug usb start normaly, i see just in hardware manager an usb mass storage device, thats it i do not see in "my computer"
ok without sd card i cant navigate in hboot)

Uninstall the drivers and install them again with the phone unplugged...check what happens then. Have u installed anything else apart from running the Hack Kit?
I have registered my account to ask this question. I have been flashing roms since I bought desire a month ago. But this time I flashed the chinese version of MIUI rom from their official website. They didn't even mentioned on their site that this is Chinese and official version of the rom.
My question is, how can I connect my USB cable to connect to the computer and then copy some other rom to my memory card. ( I don't have memory card reader/adapter). I tried to connect it but it's showing charging icon on the status bar, I then tap on that icon and there were some on/off options I tried to change them in both states but the device is still not connecting to the computer in USB mode. I am bit afraid because I am experiencing this strange problem that I haven't found fix on the net.
P.S: Sorry for my English and please reply urgently I can't even use my phone with this chinese version.
Why don't you just go to recovery (just power off phone and then while holding volume down press and hold power) and mount sdcard from there?

I have to connect my phone with pc, so I can put another rom on the sd card and then flash it. Is it possible to do this via recovery? If yes please guide me how do this.
Thanks
Yes, it is possible... Like i said, turn off your phone (if you're not sure how take the battery out and put it back again), then while holding the volume down button on the side of the phone press and hold power button... Phone should turn on, screen should be white with phone info on the top and Norad skating at the bottom of the screen - this is called bootloader... After several seconds some check-ups should be done and you should be able to move through menu by pressing volume up and down... Navigate to recovery and press power button to select it... Now the screen should change and you should be taken to recovery whichever you have installed... From there you can either restore a nandroid backup if you previously made it or toggle usb/mount usb or whatever it says and while in that menu connecting phone you should be able to access sdcard... if there is something you can't follow ask...

CLEAR STORAGE
SIMUNLOCK
a few secs after the phone starts up it flashs PB99diag.zip and pb99img.zip missing
the buttons on the phone do not function
I have tried installing android-sdk, htc sync, hboot drivers and cannot get the phone to found when on my Windows 7 64 bit machine, so I can push a new pb99img.zip to the phone...but i cannot get the phone to be found.
In device mananger it shows up as Android 1.0.
I can manually install the drivers but adb will still not show the device as listed.
The phone is not in USB debugging mode since none of this was intentional.
If anyone has any tips or advice it would be most aprreciated.
Did you root the phone previously? Did you install a custom ROM on it?
What you see is the HBOOT menu. To move the marker down you press the volume down button, to move it up you press the volume up button, and to make a selection you press the power button. Can you tell me if this works?
What happens if you take out the battery, put it back in and press the power button? I doubt it that the phone enters the HBOOT menu on it's own. Is that what you are saying? Normally you need to press and hold down the volume down button and the power button to enter this menu. So to stop entering the HBOOT menu just stop holding down the volume button when you power it on. If it enters HBOOT menu by its own will then something is wrong.
When you enter the HBOOT menu the phone will automatically look for a file called PB99img.zip or PB99diag.zip. This is sort of a fail-proof mechanism. It allows you to flash images or diagnose the phone when everything else fails, like in the case you loose button control. If it doesn't find any such file it will skip the operation. This is normal. It's the equivalent of putting a bootable CD or DVD in your Windows computer - if it's present at system boot it will boot off the CD/DVD and if it's not it will just skip it and continue booting current OS.
As for the ADB driver, check this out. You may need to change the hardware IDs in the driver INF file (android_winusb.inf).

Thank you for the quick reply...apparently my mother spilled something on the phone and it was acting up a little so she powered it down and when you powered it back up it came up to the HBOOT screen. The phone is stock it has never been rooted and no custom roms either. When I pull the battery the phone turns off, I can then put it back in and press power and then i am stuck at HBOOT. Once on the HBOOT screen none of my buttons function, not the volume or power buttons none of them. I have made sure to only press the power button when powering up and yes it still enters HBOOT. Thanks for the link on the adb driver info I will check it out with all haste.
Thank you for ADB driver info it was truly appreciated...my Hardware IDs are correct...the driver installs as Android ADB Interface yet adb or htc's ruu utility neither one acknowledges the phones existence. Is is possible that the phone is hosed?
have you tried selecting fastboot and then selecting reboot?
Flash the stock HBOOT image

I'm thinking that maybe... only maybe... the spilled liquid was sticky (and surely conductive) so that the volume down button is kept depressed, so when you press the power on button it acts as you are pressing volume down and power button. It's probably far fetched but it is possible that the volume down button is depressed for one or another reason.
Yes, I think it will say like "Android ADB Interface" when you plug the phone in while in HBOOT. It will say something else I think when you plug it in while in recovery, etc.
I don't think you can use ADB commands while in HBOOT. I think ADB commands only work when the phone is booted up. If you can enter fastboot mode you can use Fastboot commands to flash a new HBOOT for instance.
But since you can't control the interface at all and no button seems to work on the phone, I think you have to try flashing a new HBOOT by placing a ZIP file on the SD card.
Go to AlphaRev website.
Download PB99IMG_stock.zip
Rename it to PB99IMG.zip.
Take out the SD card and put it in the computer.
Copy the PB99IMG.zip file to the SD card.
Take out the SD card and put it in the phone.
Insert the battery and power on the phone.
It will now automatically flash it with stock HBOOT image. Keep in mind that this may or may not erase personal data from either the phone or the SD card. I don't take any responsibilities for any data loss. I know you can't access the phone apps and internal data right now, but you can at least take a backup of the SD card, most apps are storing data on the SD card so you could use that to restore at least parts of the data later.

No, no, no. Whats flashing hboot going to do? the phone is "water damaged". Also his phone is s-on and never rooted and u can only use alpharev hboots while s-off. Also he has a BravoC so i dont think Alpharev hboots work. Please learn some basic stuff before telling other to do things that r wrong and wont work.
@ OP i have no solution really apart from taking the phone apart and cleaning it maybe. but its water damaged so i think the only solution would be to run the correct ruu for ur phone and hope it boots or take it to a repair shop. If it was me, i would take it apart, clean it, put back together and try the ruu for ur device. But thats just my opinion. Seeing that the phone is not working then its prob worth a shot.

Ooops!! Me bad... sorry! Thanks for correcting me though. So his only option is running the RUU for a BravoC?
Where can you find RUU for a BravoC? On Shipped-ROMs I can only find BravoC for AllTel, Verizon and VZW. Do you have to take carrier name into consideration when choosing RUU? Are there no BravoC that are not locked to a carrier?
Nice suggestions, but I'm pretty sure the phone is just physically broken. Take it in and see if you can get a replacement/fix. BravoC is hard to wrestle with.

Thanks for all the suggestions...I had tried running the ruu from htc, but since i could never hammer out the usb issues the utility kept saying that the phone has less than 30% power and would promptly fail...anyway mom decided to turn it in on the insurance so its all a moot point now...again thanks to every one who tried to help and all the great guides/info on this site at least i learned quite a bit...
