My power/sleep button only works about 10% of the time due to water damage, so I need to remap my device wake button to preferably my trackpad or home button and I also need a widget that I can put in a 1x1 spot on my homescreen so i can put my device to sleep with out the button. Please help. I tried searching but nothing really came up. Thanks

Well, I've tried flashing roms, but I don't really like any, I would prefer to keep the stock rom for now if possible.

You should give a try to LeeDroid ROM if you want Sense. It's like stock but with some extra features and it still based on stock rom.
So I flashed the latest LeeDroid ROM and it wouldn't boot. It just continually went through the RAM check and never fully booted so I flashed my backup that I made and now I can't call or text. When I try to make a call, it says my phone isn't registered on the network. Did the LeeDroid ROM mess up my radio or what?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Most likely you messed up your backup and lost your APN if you are GSM. not sure with CDMA since I don't have one our really know much about the ready it it's set up.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I don't believe LeeDroid or any other rom messes with your radio unless you install radio rom separately.
If you didn't install a newest radio rom which Lee provides in his site then it might not be bad idea since i believe it's from the latest OTA update. Anyway i strongly suggest that you look for answers in respective ROM's thread, most of the issues are covered there.

Just wondering I usually just use the stock rom....but what's the point if rooting so I want to start flashing some custom ones....just wondering with there being soo many different roms out there are there any requirements that u should be looking for b4 I go and just flash a rom such as screen type or kernal, or whether I'm using froyo or just if I'm on 2.2 or not as much detail would be helpful
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
the requirements are mostly up to you.
since you are rooted you can flash any rom. All roms come with some type of kernel. if you are going to flash a custom kernel you will want to make sure it is ok for your rom. this mostly comes into play with 2.1 v 2.2 and asop v sense. these are not interchange able.
My recommendation is to figure out what you want (ie if you need 4g working or if you are looking for speed or battery power etc)
once you have this list of things you want to make sure you have start flashing roms and see if you like it. once you have it set up and play with it for a bit nand back up it and then try the next. that way if you want to go back you can easily do so.
Most people find a rom they love and tend to always go back to it even after trying other roms.
Here is a good list of the top 5 roms in my opinion ( no specific order)
Damage Control (Sense)
CyanogenMod 6 (ASOP - no 4g)
Fresh (SENSE)
Evio (SENSE)
Baked Snacks (SENSE)
For kernels The only thing you have to worry about for the most part is if the rom is ASOP (really only CM6) or sense (pretty much everything else) the 2 main sense kernels (netarchy and kingsx) both work for almost every sense rom and work with epson and nova screens
anyway good luck and happy rom hunting.
Thank you very informative, kudos too you boss....now the only other thing that concerned me is that from what I can understand when I use certain roms (or might be kernels) I was reading may downgrade my prl- along with similar issues , and also what I've gathered from that is with some/most its a ***** too update again so if there are any guidelines for these kind of"issues" I as well as I'm sure most others new to android would love some guidance.....ohh and one of viruses roms says "your warrantee is now void".......this doesn't do anything other than explain that if you leave your phone flashed with anything other than an official android software and haven't reset back too s-on....your warrantee is void by htc/sprint ...but going back from what I understand is easy as using unrevoked s-on and downloading and flashing the latest official 2.2......just tying up loose ends..... Thank you all.
when you unlock nand the engineer boot changes your PRI to 1.34. I believe someone has a method using unrevoked forever and a custom img to prevent this but i have not done a lot of research on it since i have been rooted since i got my phone.
There are several methods to get back to 1.4 pri. For many the PRI made no difference to performance in few areas people report increased speeds (they also noticed these speeds differences right after they rooted). The most common method is to dial ##768# and then reset yuor profile (you will need your MSL code) once thats done wipe dalvik and cache and then cross your fingers. the pri is sometimes downloaded and installed during the over the air activation.
For some it is quick and painless and others like me took over 100 tries over several weeks. I have no actual benefit that i can tell but i like knowing i have everything up to date.
As for the warranty issue you are correct. If you can boot your phone it is relatively easy to get back to an unrooted phone. If your phone is rooted they say your warranty is void. so just dont give the phone back to them with out unrooting. the method you listed above is correct.
I don't know how to give you credit....but thank you....how does this work: +10

Last thing lol with themes dies the rom have to support them or if I'm on stock rooted rom can I install a theme and of not can I alter a stock rooted rom to be able to support them
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
it depends on the theme. A majority of the themes for 2.2 will work on stock rooted as well as the sense 2.2 roms. If using and ASOP rom (ex CM 6) you will want to make sure the theme says it works with it.
some common ones for 2.2 sense are the Aloysius themes, riptide themes, and manups themes. there are lots of others depending on your taste so check them out.
if you are unsure i would nand back up before you apply the theme and if something looks funky once you install it just revert back.
Probably shouldn't have said "last question" but adb is giving me problems "error: device not found" and when I get it working I can't delete apps (sprint bloatware) it says "read only file". And I tried to install a theme but it just made my evo boot into what looked like an optical illusion....which was cool for a second...but compleatly un-functional....it was that revolutionary theme that was updated on 8/30 any suggestions?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i mailed you a lot of the response to this before i saw you posted it as well. I'm not going to retype everything but i will update to let you know that i installed the theme on my phone (i currently have evio 1.2 rom) and it went as expected. I did not try installing all the custom options but the main theme itself installed and didnt come up with an optical illusion type effect so i am confident we can get this working once you get back to me on some of the information.
So... I seen baconbits shortly after rooting and flashing, I installed baconbits, phone booted, than right from start up I get forceclose on every app and process... than I tried to do a backup, I got an error on cwm so than I wiped data and tried to reflash fresh and start over, that would not work. So I recovered the stock froyo and fixed cwm than I flashed fire and ice cm7 rom.. everything has been fine since I fixed it.. it was still frustrating tho..
But when ever I go to my boot loader before recovery, I get this green font that says blah blah blah not found (its trying to locate files to install that stock froyo, but after it doesn't locate the file I'm free to access recovery or do whatever.. is there a way to delete that "cannot find" ****, it takes about 20 seconds from holding power and volume down to give me control.. that's why I want it gone its annoying.. even if I can't fix it, I guess its not a major setback..

thats internal feature of Hboot... it looks for pc10img.zip on sd card.... not at all an error....
and it can be useful in a situation where you mess up your recovery and rom ... you would be able to save your phone via that ....
also its used to go back to stock rom and unroot when needed
+1 for hispeedword. Best possible answer right there - that's exactly what's going on. Use ROM Manager to reboot straight to recovery from now on and it will skip HBOOT so you don't have to wait through all of that. CM and most other roms also allow that option when you hold down the power button.
Now, you said "shortly after rooting and flashing" - what exactly did you flash? You do know baconbits is ONLY meant to be used with the stock rom right? The exact one that you rooted and that came on your phone. If you flash ANY other rom - even a 'stock rooted rom' then you run into tons of errors when flashing baconbits.

Yeah I was being stupid, I didn't even know at the time when my phone messed up that it was from me flashing baconbits...until I did a back up, than flashed a different rom and reflashed baconbits, lmao..
so your saying to use baconbits if you rooted but didn't flash custom roms, than it works fine?
I'm thinking of switching to a sense rom, I don't even know why.. what are the pros/cons of sense? Thanks.
Assuming you've already answered your question up there, sense roms usually consume more battery life because of the plethora of constantly active widgets. However, if you're VERY social or buisiness, Id recommend it. The battery drain only cuts down on a few hours, depending on your usage, cpu governers and radio, and for that, you get a lot of functionality from the rom. Plus the new elegant blues ported theme for sense roms is just gorgeous. I also like the whole manual link to facebook in the contacts. Still hoping for a port for that xP try it out.

Hello,
I got my Desire HD a few weeks ago, it was locked on Three UK and I rooted and sim unlocked it to use it in Italy where I live.
I was playing with the application manager and noticed that there are a few apps that are installed on the phone (some Three UK apps, Bejeweled and so on) that are not showing at all in the apps list. They are in the installed applications of the application manager, but I can't do anything with them as all the controls for these apps are gray (not selectable). Anyone has any idea about what is happening?
I was also thinking to flash a stock ROM to get rid of all that unusable stuff and speed up the phone a bit (the Three splash screen makes boot crazy long), but I want to be sure I can go back to this ROM, if needed. I have a backup made with ClockworkMod, is it all I need or should I save something else first?
What stock ROM would be better for me to flash?
I am currently with OS build 1.37.771.3 and Radio 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Thanks in advance for the help!

My guess is that those apps are part of the ROM and so you will not easily be able to remove them.
You could try using something like Titanium Backup to see if that will remove them but unlikely.
"What ROM should I use" is a question that should be banned from this site. It is up to you what ROM you like the most. I, along with others can only tell you what ROM works best for them. Pick one, try it. Don't like it then choose another.

Okay, I think I explained myself the wrong way
I didn't want somebody to tell me what ROM is better as I know it really depends on personal preferences, that's the reason why there are so many different ones, right? What I meant is: what is the latest stock ROM that allows me to root the phone using Visionary+? Do I have to worry about OTA updates or can I just download and apply them?
For now I just want to have a "clean" phone, custom roms and further playing will come in the future
And, the second part of the question is if a system backup done using ClockworkMod is sufficient to get back to what I have now, if ever needed, or I do need to backup something else first.
Thanks!
I'm afraid I can't recall the latest version that will still work using Visionary+ The last time I researched it was 1.32 I believe but don't hold me to that. If you have a look at the Android Development forum the Visionary threads will tell you.
If you use CWM Recovery to do a (NAND) backup of the current ROM then that is all you will need to do. THat will back up ROM, settings, apps, messages etc. Everything.

I am wanting to put a new ROM on my new EVO. I got it from sprint the other day and want all its bloatware off of it. I am new to this but I have dont similar things in the past.
Reasons I want to ROOT and flash:
Get rid of sprint bloatware
Unlock Wi-Fi tethering ability
Get best and most optimized version of android
Now here is where I need your help...I dont really know which rom to get. Is the 2.3 Gingerbread ROM work with no bugs? I dont want to be a buggy beta tester I want something solid but something better than what I have.
Here is my phone information:
Android Version
2.2
Baseband Version
2.15.00.11.19
Kernel Version
2.6.32.17-gee557fd
htc-kernel(at)and18-2#15
Build Number
3.70.651.1 CL294884
Software Number
3.70.651.1
Browser Version
Webkit 3.1
PRI version
1.90_03
PRL Version 6067
I dont know what some of it means but if you could tell me what I should update and give me a little information on how to do it. I dont know what baseband/radio does. I dont have the latest version should I get it?
Mainly I want help on choosing a ROM to flash to. Gingerbread would be nice but if there isnt a stable version just link me to a better ROM of 2.2 to flash to. I just want rid of all this bloatware and I want to be able to theater.
Thanks for the help =)
try vaelpak 3.2, i've been using it for a while now and love it its like a mix of sense roms with asop roms but with sense base so everything works flawlesly
If your looking for a good rom that is stable and everything works. I would strongly recommend Vaelpak 3.2 RC2. I have been running this rom for about 2 months straight, well it started as RC1. Everything works and will do what you asked above. The software is still 2.2, mainly because Jim is waiting for the final versos of 3.2 to be released. Yes I have had a few minor issues, more like minor annoyance. But when one comes up I get on there forum and Jim always seems to be able to fix the issue.

There are many, many roms out there. It just depends on the what you are looking for. As for me I like having a rom that is not only stable for everyday use, but also having everything work properly. Not all roms are created equal and will vary in features. Like I stated before I love using vaelpak, but other people will swear by different roms. As for cm7, I have used it. But it just wasn't for me and screwed with my phone. As for the rooting process I would recommend Unrevoked. Very quick and simple. Also always do backups, even after rooting your phone. The other nice thing about Vaelpak over cm7, not trying to bash cm7 or its developers. But with Vaelpak there is a thing under settings were all the new radios and kernals are listed. Someone please correct me if i am wrong, with cm7 you have to flash back to a "sense" rom to update the radios. And if you cant tell I am very bias with Vaelpak, I have tryed others but they simply dont compair.

Chances are if you just got the phone it should be current or you can go under settings> system updates and update your firmware(wouldn't recommend if you plan on rooting),profile, PRL ans the software. The radios are what allows you to have service. Once again someone correct me if I am wrong.
With certain Roms (Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo comes to mind) you will need to make sure you have the latest everything. There's a link in the thread for the rom to a flashable zip - you flash this through recovery as you would a rom, kernel, etc. Read the first few posts in the thread for a rom you're going to flash. You don't want to miss something.
I flash everything manually through recovery (Amon Ra specifically, but which you use is entirely your preference) to minimize error & ensure everything that I want to wipe is wiped - properly. If you feel more comfortable with Rom Manager, there's nothing wrong with that. I recommend at least learning how to do it all manually in case you're ever in a bind.
As far as roms go - try them out... all of them. Or at least the ones that fit your needs. For stable and close to stock I recommend Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. Warm Z is also nice, with a newer version of Sense. Vaelpak is a really great rom if you want certain Sense apps (like the dialer) but without the Sense launcher/additional useless crap. CM7 is a great 2.3 AOSP rom. It's actually stable now, but you might need to do the GPS fix if you have issues with the GPS. MIUI is another 2.3 AOSP rom, it's very polished but no 4G. It's a lot different than CM7 or any other rom. There are some "GingerSense" roms out now, but from what I've heard they're not stable at this point.
Three random tips:
1) Do not pull the battery during a radio update. After you reboot you'll see a black screen with a downwards arrow or an Android in a box. Just wait for it to finish. If you freak and pull the battery, your phone is most likely dead forever.
2) Buy Titanium Backup Pro and Root Explorer. Two most useful apps I've paid for. With either of these apps you can remove any unwanted apps (or with TB, freeze them). So if a rom comes with apps you don't want, you can easily get rid of them.
3) Don't base anything on quadrant scores, they're pretty much useless. Even if a rom puts you below average, ignore it as long as you're happy with your phone.

Cyanogen has really disappointed me. I was running mod 6 on my hero for a long time with no problems, then mod 6 on my evo with no problems. I installed mod 7 on my evo about a month ago and it has already basically crapped out on me twice. Just becoming really slow and everything force closing or just giving me a black screen when I try to open the app. Then I restore it back to right when I flashed it, and it works great for a couple weeks. I would suggest trying the vaelpak 3.2. I have no idea how it is, but I am gonna flash it right now and see how it is during the day tomorrow.

So, I'm new to this and have a Note 2 (SPH L900) from Sprint. I am trying to learn the terminology but I'm a quick study through interactive conversations in a forum board like this. I put cyanogenmod using clockwork on my rooted phone and I've noticed that the GPS fails to get a lock, the camera goes in and out of focus while recording video and the call volume is very low when I'm making a phone call.
For the GPS thing someone said to flash a stock TouchWiz and then re-flash cyanogenmod back on it and that seems to have fixed it. In my searches on how to do this or where to even get a TouchWiz I lost that original thread. Can someone help me understand how to get the original TouchWiz?
As far as the camera thing, I'm not sure if there's a different camera app that would suffice?
And the call volume I remember reading somewhere that there's a file that you can edit to change the call volume.
I've been all over trying to get this device working with cyanogenmod and getting lost in the interwebs and the terminology that I'm not used to. I've been recently starting to wonder if I should just go back to the original out of the box installation but I don't know how to do that either!?! LOL!

For the GPS issue, Flash the rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-sprint/development/classic-stock-ne2-4-4-2-deodexed-t2818246 , You don't even have to set up all the accounts just go in open up MAPS get the GPS lock then Flash back to your Cyanogenmod Rom and your GPS should work.
Now for the call volume I know alot of Roms are having issues with this. When you get or make a call what i do is after the call is started I turn my volume down as far as it will go and then turn it back up and the call volume is fine. If there is a fix for this I haven't ran across it yet.
Your camera Issue i haven't ran across that myself. But i'll browse these forums and see what i can come up with.
There are several CM based ROMS to choose from. If you prefer CM over TW (Samsung's interface overlay) then you should visit the development forums and choose a ROM that you feel is right for you. Personally I like Slim ROM and Carbon ROMs. The volume bug effects CM ROMS but there are a few ROMS that volume has been "pre-tweaked". Otherwise during a call turn volume down then back up and it should be much louder.
CM cameras tend to be slightly subpar to the stock TW camera as far as picture quality, lag, and focusing, etc, but for the most part all CM cameras do work ok. I personally prefer the stock TW based camera but that's not an option if using a CM based ROM.
There's no other way around the GPS bug other than what has been mentioned. Simply flash a stock type ROM that is based off the Samsung Touch Wiz ui overlay and do as Sothus said. Get a solid GPS lock using google maps. I highly recommend doing the same thing for LTE at the same time. Get in LTE coverage and make sure your phone is connected to LTE data service then get the GPS lock with Google Maps. Then immediately reboot into recovery, wipe system, data, cache, dalvic cache, flash MK4 or NE2 modem, then flash the ROM.
Also make sure you are using a current version of Clockwork recovery or better yet use Phil's version of Clockwork recovery. You can find it in the regular development forum not original development forum. Good luck.

no. You have to be in a geological location where Sprint provides 4G LTE. You'll need to go to Sprint.com and see what areas are suppose to have it.
And then just by turning on my phone in one of those locations is all I would need to do? Or should I make a phone call?

so, this link that lennykravitz2004 just posted is the stock ROM that my phone would currently have or had before I put cyanogenmod on it, right? I just want to make sure before I start messing with it that this is in fact the same as what I had. I accidentally deleted the backup that I had through clockworkmod (not that the backup worked anyway) and want to try and make a solid stock backup. Thanks in advance!

Yes that is pure stock ROM. Note that when you use Odin to flash this you will have stock ROM, kernel, and recovery also it will not be rooted.
