[q] ota 1.72.405.2 - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just appeared on my phone (DZ). Does anyone know some details about this upgrade? Will permanant root and nand unlock possibility remain after applying it? Is there a changelist somewhere?

Always best to wait, don't jump into your doom

OTA 1.72.405.2 update is coming indeed. So how we will take it? Desire Z

Just updated my DZ, now runs Android 2.2.1.. To early to say anything about stability, battery consumption and radio quality, but the EXCHANGE 2010 ISSUES SEEMS TO BE FIXED!
Lost my perm-root though (didn't have S-OFF)... :/

I have the clockwork recovery so I can't update.
Does anyone has the zip package?

from htc twitter:
European Desire HD / Desire Z users – look out for an update rolling out from today that will make your mobile experience even better.

Works perfectly fine here. Updating took about 6-7 minutes here (including reboot)
Promised fixes are improved performance and camera improvements. Phone runs smooth, but I didn't notice any very big increase yet. Camera seems to be a tad faster, but that could have been caused by the reboot as well.

Don't install any OTA if you are rooted/S-OFF !
You will lose root and might not be able to get it back if HTC have tried to close the loopholes exploited via the current root/S-OFF methods.
Far better to wait until the devs have had a chance to check things out and make sure the update is rootable/S-OFFable.
If you don't care about root etc then this warning doesn't apply ,but I suspect the number of members this applies to is a minority.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z

Just to add, the RUU for this version is already in the dev forum, and we already know there are some issues with rooting it.

Anyone have a lead on when the CDN update will surface?

Urmm, are you referring to the Exchange issue where initial sync would work but then "sync protocol error" would occur after a few syncs?
Would be so awesome if that is fixed, interesting that in the last few days HTC support are telling me that they are still handling it as an issue on their side, and actually requested that I open a user for them on my Exchange server...
Downloading now.

Well, no dice, tried syncing exchange and getting "sync protocol error". might try to remove and re-add the account, but I tend to think it'll be a waste of time.
Duppsko, can you let me know what your Exchange issue was before, and what did you see fixed after?

Correct, I had the protocol sync issue, couldn't sync either calendar or contacts after a few syncs... also, sending e-mail and opening attachments didn't use to work..
When the DHD got this exchange-fix OTA earlier in november, users said that you have to delete the activesync partnership completely, and then readd your account.. that's what I did, and my issues are all gone!
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk

Last night, my phone was fine. THis morning, I woke up and had no sound playing back through the phone... Thought I'd do an online update to see if that would fix it. Said there was an update, so went ahead and updated...
Now, I still have no sound, but also getting problems with the wi-fi. I try loading it and it says (for a split second) "Loading" then comes up with error...
I also tried watching a video, and get "unable to play this video".
Dunno whether it's an app I downloaded last night, or whether there might've been something else that caused it...
Tried doing a backup to factory reset, but cannot backup any of the application settings because I don't have root...
Hopefully someone will be able to get root back for this update so I can backup, and factory reset

OK, now sound is back working. Dunno why or how... But I still can't get the wifi to work... Having read around on the net, have heard of people who have had problems when updating with ota updates on htc when rooted. So could this be the problem?! I hadn't even thought about the rooting at the time of update... D'oh...
Hopefully can resolve this asap

Its too tempting for me having that little download notification.
I have perm-root and s-off (but not radio... the fake version).
Would love to know what will happen...
Also is there a changelog?

1. What exchange fix did the dhd users get? Many of the recent complaints about this problem are still coming from dhd users...
2. When you say delete the partership you mean from the exchange server or do you mean removing the account from the device? The first option got the sync working for me for a couple of days and died again (last week, before the ota upgrade). But should I try deleting the partnership and/or readd the account on my phone now, after the ota upgrade?

I did the OTA update without realising i would lose root.. and now SetCPU doesn't work (it's the only app i use root for).
From what i gather, there is no easy solution, yet? VisionaryR12 says i already have root..

I have started a new thread in the dev forum about rooting progress on this new ROM. Please check that thread for update info (but don't just post in there "When will we get root ?", because it's a thread to talk about the dev stuff).

I'm referring to this thread where some people reported that the DHD OTA released early in november fixed all their exchange 2010 issues. Haven't been reding the whole thread, so I don't know if the problem persisted..

Sorry that I didn't specify this, I just removed the account from the device (thus deleting all existing contacts, e-mails etc.) and then readded the account. As you say, just deleting the partnership from the exchange server (in OWA) doesn't work, I've tried that before this OTA was released with no luck... I'm pretty sure that you HAVE to delete the account on your device to make this work, however, it doesn't hurt to delete both account on the device AND partnership in OWA...
Edit: My god, it is now possible to use "search server" from within the mail client (select folder, and press the search "hw-key", and then select search server)... Best christmas present ever!

[Q] Sync problems after rooting

hey everyone, i'm new to this whole rooting thing, and i havent seen any threads regarding problems yet, so i thought it might be useful to start one.
i dont know if i'm the only one experiencing this, but ever since i've rooted (stock tmobile rom, didnt touch the eng build or slidemeroot rom), i've experienced a major problem. i wiped my phone to factory settings prior to rooting to try to get it to root properly, and ever since rooting, i'm unable to sync my contacts saved on the tmobile website to my phone. syncing the weather, gmail, yahoo mail, and facebook all work perfectly, but sycning my tmobile account just isnt working.
it might be a server problem with tmobile, but is anyone else experiencing this? or maybe other problems?
normally i'd post this kind of problem somewhere like the tmobile forums, but i looked through there and nobody else has posted about any similar problem.
it's a tmobile issue.
My phone was doing this prior to rooting.
T-Mo fails at sync... I'd use Google to store contacts. Keep it in the cloud and those with the know how = Google.
lol
Its not fair to blame the mob... especially since YOU rooted your phone... they cant guarantee itll work if you change settings and the phone in general... come on now... I bet if you un-root and revert to stock itll work fine...
Lots of other people are having the sync issue that arent rooted.
There are threads on the official tmobile board.
And this has been going on with my phone since monday, prior to root.
In fact, if you log into your mytmobile account and go to the contacts page, you can see it hanging there trying to sync, it will eventually timeout and tell you its server error.

done and done. didnt realize this was a recurring problem with tmobile.
just to clear things up, i wasnt blaming anyone, i just thought it was strange that i was syncing fine until i rooted. i spoke too soon.
That always happens to me after every reboot. I have to check and uncheck tmo contacts or sync will continue forever. The best way is use gmail contacts and remove all myfavs and it will stop syncing forever. Yeah, all and all tmobile contacts suck. Why even use them? Google works better anyways. And you can always bkup to sim.

Unrevoked 3 Rooting Issues with my Droid Incredible

I am in desperate need of a solution...please help.
The company I work for uses Microsoft Exchange Server for our Email Service and before I rooted my Droid Incredible I was able to use the Exchange Activesync service on my phone to sync with my work's email without a problem.
Now that I rooted my phone I receive an error telling me I am unable to connect to the exchange server. I have already attempted to use "K-9 Email Client" and "Lockpicker" to see if I could connect. No luck... I believe the issue is with a missing certificate but I am not sure. I have already contacted my IT Department at my work which ended up being useless cause they are unaware of how to locate the certificate for our email service.
Anyways if anyone could shed some light on this please do...Thank you!
Also Facebook does not sync contacts, the live feed works fine.
I don't really mind this cause I'm using "FB Sync" to get my friends pictures but I do miss having all of Facebook contacts shown in my Contacts List.
Phone: HTC Incredible
Rom: ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1
Kernel: 2.6.29-Hydra-ocuv-ov-n-v07
unroot with the ruu (that should be somewhere close in the dev section)
and re root with unrevoked3. i have to say, ive tried all the roms except pmf yasr and red and blue, and ive never had all these wierd errors everyone had. my theory is that all the incredibles are made differently. some are more resistant to modding and rooting and others arent. but anyway, just ruu and apply unrevoked3. and be sure to backup contacts and data before ruu

not sure about the email thing, but for your contacts try ensuring that Facebook contacts are selected to show up by going to your contacts list and hitting Menu > View and make sure you have Facebook checked.

Ya I did that and although the option to show Facebook Contacts is available...the list is empty and says I have zero friends. Which is wrong I have over 300 Friends. So the issue has to be with the ROM.
Thread moved to General.
Guys I give up!!!
I've tried two ROMs the one provided by Unrevoked3 by default and JagerRomSense both had the same problem - No Exchange Service and No Facebook Account Sync. I've decided to go back to the Original setup and just wait till the Official Froyo OTA comes out for Verizon. Cause I can't stand having issues with my phone. If you have any comments let me know what you think...Thanks!

This is not a ROM, this is your new recovery which you probably flashed via the unrevoked tool. The unrevoked tool does not provide a ROM, all it does is root your phone and flash Clockwork mod recovery.
I have a feeling this was the start of your problems. You need to understand the differences between these types of things BEFORE you go and start modding your phone.
The company I work for is pretty picky about which phones can connect on their network and I managed to get the incredible up and running. As a hint, we recently purchased a smartphone company. Anyway when the purchase went through and they started letting execs carry the new phones, there were some ActiveSync changes that allowed exchange to work on just about anything that supported the required security policies.
Long story short, I’ve had a few times where i needed to delete the account and reactivate it because of sync problems. In order to do so, it seems like I have to turn lock picker off, setup the account, and then re-enable lock picker if I want that functionality. If you have this program installed, try disabling it, deleting your exchange account, re-adding your account, and then seeing what happens.
If by some strange chance you happen to work for the same company I hinted at above, shoot me a PM here and I’ll get you some instructions I found and essentially translated from the company we just acquired to the Incredible.
I have a phone by said company coming my way; they are expecting most of us to carry it at work. I wonder how hard it will be to switch back and forth…

HTC peep

hi all
I recently noticed that my friendstream was not updating. So i logged out and tried to log back in but it is saying username/password incorrect which it is not. i have change my password and email address and it still doesnt work. Anyone got any ideas.
Thanks
Jonathan
I think I saw a thread a few days ago about this - something to do with https or something...
Sorry its a bit vague - I was using the official Twitter client more these days - but have a search in the forum - I am sure this was brought up recently
e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016439&highlight=htc+peep
Yeah, seems Twitter have now changed to use HTTPS and sounds like it's knocked out Peep - Official apps works fine but HTC are going to have to update the Desire to get it working again
Yeah have no seen that its effecting a lot of people.
I have notice that HTC as released a fix for windows mobile devices. But nothing yet for android.
the WinMo fix for Peep I think was a security hole in their s/w rather than this issue if it was the one released a couple of months back.
Double-check on your Twitter account and see if you're using HTTPS - if you are see if turning it off works?
I had the exact same problem - Cannot log in!
T-Mobile customer services said it was my problem......grrrrr!
No it is your problem - please sort it!
I have had to add a bloated Twitter app....come on HTC, if you tie in these "apps" into the software - keep on top of it - OR allow us to remove the "app" as normals apps can be removed!
Rant over....for now!
i dont use it my self but they fix it
Mine works fine just logged in no problem, odd it only affects certain people.

By the time it takes T-Mobile to do anything helpful, you might as well have bought another phone!
the advice to NOT use https does not work - same issue.
HTC are at fault here for not keeping their eye on the ball (well eye on Twitter that is!)
I will forgive them when they release gingerbread shortly!
Dave
not the first time peep has been having issues.
tried reporting it to htc? they'll probably say wait for a future update.
or in the meantime try the official app

[INFO] Exchange Active Sync broken with Hotmail

Hi
Are you having problems with Exchange ActiveSync with Hotmail. The symptoms currently on the HTC One X is if you manually fire a sync with your Hotmail account it fails with a message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".
On searching for a solution I've found this is a known problem. Microsoft is updating it's servers with a newer version of the protocol, and this is breaking ActiveSync with Hotmail on many devices.
Note that the update appears to be happening slowly across lots of servers, so depending on which server you hit it may work for a bit only then to stop working. At some time in the future it will never work.
It seems HTC need to update their client software.
If you are affected please add your details here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...637-90a3-b6f00e1e4500?page=1&tm=1341158876259 and also report it to HTC.
Hopefully this information will save someone spending a lot of time trying to remove and add back accounts etc.
Regards
Phil

I have this problem since 10 days. According to this post android 4.0.4 is not affected by this issue. So after the next update the problem should be solved.
I'm also experiencing the same issue, auto sync seems working but when i force it manually i get error message couldn't open connection to server.
I'm on cm9 mod on htc sensation and i have a hotmail.fr account, maybe related to PhilipL problems...

I'm running ViperX based on 4.0.4 and am still having this problem.
Bad news! I hope it's will be fixed soon...
I had a similar problem with my work email, when i found out the problem was a new server i changed it in my settings on the phone, as soon as i clicked on sync it went into data reset and wiped everything. I got an email in work saying
The remote device wipe has completed successfully.
The remote device wipe you initiated from the Mobile Devices Options page on 6/28/2012 11:56:06 AM is complete.
Device type: endeavoru
Device ID:
Note: To sync with Microsoft Exchange, you must remove this device from the list in the Mobile Options page.
Otherwise, for security purposes, your device will continue to clear data if you try to sync again
I have no idea how this happened, can anyone help?
*update* I have found out what I done, I am a numpty, ignore this.
Hi
I had this response from HTC, sounds like they know about the issue, although read another way it seems almost generic and doesn't commit to anything.
Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your HTC One X.
My name is Paul and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.
I understand that you are inquiring about the recent issues Microsoft have been having with Hotmail and their Exchange Activesync system.
I can confirm, Phil, that once Microsoft have completed their necessary recovery work, we will provide any necessary update to our phone's firmware, however not all phone models will require an update.
We do not have any further information about which phones would require an update or to a date for the release, but I would advise you to keep watching our news feeds, and social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, as any notification will posted released on these sites first.

Access permissions with Nougat

Not sure if anyone else has run into this problem since upgrading to Nougat but I wanted to throw it out there in case someone has noticed it or has any suggestions.
Every time I restart my phone, app permissions are reset. Notifications revert back to stock. Camera asks for storage permissions. Calendar needs access to accounts etc. It's hasn't gotten me frustrated enough to reflash but if anyone else has had this experience or has a suggestion I am willing to try it.
My HTC One M9 only recently got the Nougat update (within this month, March 2017). I too have been plagued with access permissions being randomly forgotten at start up. The most annoying being Gmail and Calendar, but I too have had Camera asking for them to be allowed too. Very very annoying.
Since the Nougat update I have had a strange problem with Gmail, even when permissions have been correctly set. The phone completely forgets the two Gmail accounts that I use. I decided to try to uninstall the app but it takes you back out of the updates to the factory installed level. Then when I tried to put my two Gmail accounts in the Google account option was frozen, just could not add them. I finally decided that HTC Sense might have something to do with it! So I disabled it, then re-enabled it and Gmail account setup suddenly responded with my two accounts already showing! So I have now gone to Google Play Store to download the latest Gmail updates and it all appears working. But for how long?
What has HTC done with its Nougat update? The phone was once stable, now its an unreliable mess!

Good to hear from you, especially as you are a fellow sufferer.
I have a stock phone, not rooted at all. Sadly I gave up my "nerd" hacking a few years ago. I prefer not to mess these days and stick with what the manufacturer supplies.
However, I still find it odd that no-one else has reported this, but you and I. I am now convinced there is a bug with HTC's tailoring of Nougat. And I believe the reason is that no-one reports it is because they leave their phone on all the time, even when charging. I always close the phone down at night and put it on charge overnight. It seems the complete restart triggers this behaviour. It doesn't do it every time though. I even wondered at some stage if it was simply app updates being applied, as the Gmail, Calendar and other popular apps are often being fiddled with (sorry, enhanced) by Google. However, I also have had the problem at start of day, even after no updates have been applied.
It is very annoying. I wonder if I should try never switching the phone off completely to see if the permissions remain then? What do you think?

So I found my issue was due to a encrypted SD Card which constantly resets permission. So what I did was I formatted my SD Card and replace with existing backed up data from the computer, and it worked.

I've noticed the issue, for sometime now and I've been updated to Nougat since day 1. My phone never sleeps so I didn't noticed. It's pretty annoying. Will try the SDCard formatting and see. I'll let know how it goes.
