I have a desire and also a desire hd - I connect them to exchange server 2010 - no problems with the desire. But the desire hd appears to not be able to send email (does not appear in sent items and recp does not get email) or upload contacts entered on the phone.
I have searched the web and found this post about it:
http://androidforums.com/android-ap...e-hd-cannot-send-android-native-mail-app.html
but no answers - so is this a common issue with the desire hd?
I do NOT want to use 3rd party software.
Despite my searches i have found nothing ... so I am asking here if anyone else has this problem or knows a way of fixing it.
Thanks
Kris
No problems here with Exchange 2010 SP1.

Ok... when adding a contact through the phone (on my exchange account) and going into my sync settings it states: "sync protocal error"
I think this may be related - BTW my exchange server does NOT use ssl
Any further ideas? - also can i get further details on this error?
Thanks
Kris
I have no pb with mail2web exchange account.

Hi,
I'm having some problems with default Mail application of Android under HTC Desire for sending mails through my personal mail server.
I host my own mail server with SMTP Authentication but *only* with Android Mail application it seems to ignore username/password I provided under the account settings so no authenticated session is done on the mail server and this one reject the client because of this. SASL Authentication is properly working with other clients (Windows mobile pocket outlook, Thunderbird 2 or 3, Outlook ...etc)
Do you have such other similar experience/problem with SMTP Auth within Android 2.1 please ?
Thanks by advance,
laurent
Hi, i'm having the same problem using the corporate SMTP server (which works for everyone else). Might be a bug on the email app?

hi !
thks for your reply, now i know that i'm not alone
I was afraid of this ... it could be a bug
I searched on Google about this problem but found no interesting entry anywhere about it like if nobody saw it ?!
Do you know if there is a sort of BugZilla for android OS please ? Maybe we could find an entry there or at least enter a new one if necessary ...

Hi, the email application belongs to the Sense, so HTC should fix it. The stock Android email app works (tested on a Samsung phone with the same SMTP server) but is not available on Desire.

Ok, thks for this information, sorry I was thinking this one was the default mail application from Android
so we have nothing to do other than waiting and cross our fingers that HTC release a fix asap ...
if you want the default android one, i ffound it on a post here somewhere....cant find it now though, but you can download it from http://rhedgehog.com/apk/email.apk
If someone can upload it to rapidshare or something (no access here at work) it'd be cool.
Edit: Oh by the way, have no issues with my server. Auth turned on, standard SMTP, SSL off. no idea what software my host is running on the server though.....
hi,
thks for your reply !
do u mean smtp auth is working properly for you ? if so can you give me firmware version of your htc desire please ?
thks

SMTP Auth is working fine for me with SSL, I use Runbox premium mail service.
I am running software version 1.15.405.4
1.15.110.11
Hi again,
Thks all for your informations, I also have 1.15.405.4 and so did some new tests with SSL enabled/selected this time and SMTP Auth is now working !
If I go back and disable SSL, I have no logs on my Postfix server-side about SMTP Auth and client is purely rejected.
By the way, for my curiosity I tried with the Android default Email application rhedgehog provided (thks) and with this one SMTP Auth is working with SSL selected or not ...
So, as a workaround, I finally kept SSL on but did not find yet the last word of this problem !?
@alebolic : maybe you should try with SSL on ...

I have a Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S on t Mobile. I have no pop3/smtp issues on all platforms and devices including my Blackberry 8520, 9700, and Pearl. I have two POP3/SMTP accounts that I need email to send and reviece from constantly allday. Sinc eI bought my Android phone I have had nothing but issues on both the defaul internal client and with apps like K9 for example.
Whether I am rooted or not, fresh reboot or after it has been on or idle, smtp always fails a few days after adding account and POP3 works occasionally. I have tested full and as needed syncing, other SSL ports and etc other than the recomnmended and still pop3 is sporatic and SMTP fails frequesntly a few days after thet account are created in the phone. I had zero issues on my Blackberry, I just dont understand why these phones are giving so many people issues.
?? I am begining to wonder if everyones issue is a task killer killing an app that is needed and it is not opening when needed?
?? Is there a underliying push to make people use Gmail and apps instead of the phone?
It must be a base system issue because POP3/SMTP apps behave the same way. As everyone knows Gmail works fine always. My Yahoo! Mail app works perfect as well.
WA: I just use bookmarks I placed on my Home screen to access my mail via browser.
Not sure if it is relevant, I use a service called authsmtp for all my outgoings, and it is a little irritating when being set up on Android HTC Desire froyo. The first time it tries the access and says the host isn't responding, if you then say you have ssl it then produces a checkbox saying login required and you can enter a username/passw combo. After that it works.....
Seems like the requirement to let it know you have secure access isn't geared to the first attempt to set up.

Same problem here.
The HTC Desire Z mailclient does not support SMTP Auth with my mail server.
I checked on my mailserver to find the problem, but the phone does not try auth
at all.
Server says "220 ... ESMTP Sendmail.."
Phone sends "EHLO [..ip..]"
Server answers
"
250....
...
250-AUTH DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5
...
"
Phone sends "QUIT"
The Phone shows "server does not support authentication".
BTW: this phone is the only client I tested with this bug. Working clients are: Thunderbird, iPhone, iPad, aso
It seems HTC mail does not support the provided Auth methods. If anyone of you has a working setup, could you please tell me which mailserver it is or tell me what auth method
would work ?
Have you tried authsmtp as I mentioned? They were aware of the original problem I had and they may well be able to fix the Z issue.

Hi, I hope this hasn't been asked, I searched and had a look through a few pages manually and couldn't find anything.
I seem to have a problem sending emails from my hotmail account on the HTC Desire. I have an HD2 set up with my account and it works fine, but my friends desire set up with MY details will receive my emails but not send them. Has anyone come across this before. I've been through the settings and they match up with what is listed online.
Thanks in advance
(again hope its not already been asked)
Check your account settings and apply these settings:
Outgoing:
Outgoing mail server address - smtp.live.com
Security type - TLS
Server port - 25

Hi, yeah I've checked through these and they perfectly match the settings on the phone. I've even registered myself for Gmail, set up the phone to receive the Gmail emails (which it does fine) but it will also not send from the Gmail account.
The messages disappear, they go to sent items not outbox. But just never seem to reach the destination. (tested the destination several times by sending emails from my HD2 and its working fine)
Thank you anyway though
Try changing the outgoing server port to 587 and that should work for you.
If not, are you rooted or running the stock firmware? Have you tried a hard reset to eradicate any potential software bugs?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yeah I saw someone had 587 and I tried that. I think I have found the problem (after saying I tested the destination thourghly) emails sent from the Desire are being rejected by our mailscanner. However when sent from my HD2 they arrive fine. But when I sent an email from the Desire to another hotmail account it worked. When sending to a yahoo account it arrived and then instantly disappeared again into junk. So I guess now I would ask...do you know why the emails are being put into junk when sent from the desire, but the same email from an HD2 doesn't?
Thanks
No idea mate. I thought it could be something to do with your mailscanner config on your mail server but like you say, it receives email ok when sent from your HD2 :S
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yeah definitely a weird one, I guess I'll have a tinker and see what happens, if I get a result I'll post it up incase anyone has the same problem in future.
But thanks for your help
Dan

Hi Community/Devs,
Funny conversation with a friend who went and bought a Desire HD (because I recommended it to control his life and work on his emails, Exchange 2010).
After a long time of troubleshooting his issue where his emails cannot work on his Desire HD, he's called HTC themselves and they have told him that Exchange 2010 does not work on ANY of their devices (Android). Funny thing is... I have a normal Desire and my emails work perfectly on our Exchange 2010. My calendar, mail and contacts sync beautifully.
My mate, has problems syncing emails, contacts sometimes and calendar. Says it's connected but cannot send an email. This has been frustrating him as it is a fantastic phone, but can't get one of the most important things, emails, working on it and yet, it's perfect on mine.
Can anyone else confirm?
Thanking you all.
Hi,
nope the information from HTC is wrong. I have here two Exchange accounts on my Desire HD with Stock ROM. One is an Exchange 2007 and one a Exchange 2010. Both are working perfect as expected.
The question would be what the exchange system on the other side of the wire said when an error occured.
bye

Thank for the confirmation. I'm linking this thread to my mate who has the problem. He may have some questions. I don't have a Desire HD, but just the first Desire. I know not much difference, but in all, you're saying it works which is what I would like for him to know and maybe go back to HTC and tell them to shove... ok, maybe not, but at least ask again in a polite manner.
Maybe HTC were referrinmg to Hotmail Exchange with DHD.
Their stock mail app does not work with this model yet. For this, you need to install the stock Google mail app, Improved Email or a paid version (some with HTML) from the Market.
Not sure if this was what your looking for, as you didn't state MS Hotmail. But maybe the reason given by HTC.
Hotmail does work with DHD Stock on exchange, but only on the 2.2.1 version of the ROM. However there is a refreshing bug with it.. and also no HTML

Yes, there is that bug, that's why it doesn't work properly and unusable.

@OP: This is a Active sync issue, In Exchange 2010, active sync should be enabled for your friend;s profile for the sync to work. as him to check with this Exchange admin
Don't know if this may of any help but...here it goes

Cheers,
I've been syncing with Exchange 2010 with no issues since end last year.
I had a friend who was experiencing the same issue a while back - but only over WiFi (syncing was fine using data). We got his mail syncing over WiFi after temp rooting his phone with VISIONary and then installing ASProxy.. (for some unknown reason he didn't want to root his phone).
VISIONary: (can't find Market link)
ASProxy: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.Alsu.ASProxy
Hi,
Since the latest firmware update from HTC for the dhd deleted mail is still displaying in my inbox. I am using Zarafa as exchange provider and until now everything had worked fine. New emails are still shown on the DHD but when I delete some mail on another mail client or the web interface it still is there on the DHD even after invoking a manual synch. Had anyone else similar issues after the update? Is there some log file I could have a look at,to see if any errors occur during sync ?
Kind regards,
Jan

Hi..
Anyone know how I can get my Desire to support my google account? It seems to allow only [email protected] google accounts, but my account uses a non google email address...
Thanks...
I didn't know Google offered other domains, only Google.com and googlemail.com.
What is yours?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
A lot of businesses and colleges use gmail but use it under another domain name. If you are talking about the phones gmail or calendar app you set it up as like normal under settings but enter the enter in entire email... like [email protected] that worked for me.

Hi...
Google doesn't offer other domains that I know of. My google account is via a non google email -- my pre-existing email address that I've had longer than Google has existed! Most android devices allow you to sign in to a google account with any email address. The Desire will only allow an [email protected] address.
I contacted HTC support and they said "open another account". Yeah, that's really useful, as my play.google apps won't be there (google won't merge 2 accounts) and my calendar won't sync (the Desire calendar won't see anything other than the primary account calendar).
So this renders much of the phone useless -- unless someone knows how to bypass this stupid HTC limitation....
Would installing a clean Rom, without the HTC additions solve it?

Thanks -- good idea. A clean rom install allowed me to get the accounts working fine!
just add an gmail adress to you account. you should be able to do it on gmail.com.
it was the same for me, now i can login with my hotmail adress and my gmail adress to the same account.
