Root but no root?

Ok so I had my 1.47 Evo and finally decided to root. I ran unrevoked 3 and got root. 1 week later froyo for Evo came out and I got the unofficial .3 update. It gave me 2.2 but I was left with the superuser apk file. Now I'm at the official .6 update but still have the superuser apk. I try to run root apps such as wireless tether but it opens and when I make it tether it says it was unable to start tethering. Running universal androroot I touch it to root and it tells me I already have root. When I touch it to unroot it says it was unable to unroot. Can anybody help me? Please and thank you.

did you install the OTA or the rooted 2.2 release? if you did the OTA, im sorry but you'll have to wait for 2.2 to be rooted just like everyone else who did.

You lost root when you upgraded to 2.2. No way around it.

[Q] UNRooting

my question is,Is the unrooting method of the evo 4g rooted with unrevoked 1click the same as if you rooted your phone with the long version I dont have the rooted version with the ota yet but I do want to install, but I have to take my phone back to sprint for servicing so the unroot is neccessary

HELLO GREAT PEOPLE OF THIS FORUM I AM ROOTED ON UNREVOKED 3 I WANT TO UNROOT RIGHT I AM AWARE THAT TO DO THIS I DO THE WHOLE UNREVOKED FOREVER FLASH FOLLOWED BY THE PC36IMG FLASH BUT LIKE A MORON I CHOSE TO DO THIS IN THE SURROUNDINGS OF FAMILY IN WHICH I FLASHED THE PC36IMG FIRST. SO I REMOVED IT OF MY SD CARD AND PUT THE UNREVOKED & TRIED TO GO INTO RECOVERY BUT IT WONT LET ME I GET THE BLACK SCREEN WITH THE TRIANGLE WHAT STEPS DO I NEED TO TAKE TO UNROOT MY PHONE NOW I NEED TO TAKE MY PHONE IN FOR SERVICING SO THE THE UNROOTING IS NECCESARRY PLEASE HELPP

Do I need to upgrade unrevoked?

Hello I am sorta getting the hang of this rooting process but I have one question...I see new versions of unrevoked are periodically released, do I need to do anything with those? I rooted my phone a while back and thus used an older unrevoked. Will using a new unrevoked do anything for me?

If you are Unrevoked Forever and have s-off, there is no need to update. Unrevoked puts updates out when Google drops an update that closed the loop hole on a previous version.

[Q] I need help updating my htc evo 4g rooted

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for answering my question. I have 2.2 android version and i rooted my phone with unrevoked. I keep getting notices on my phone for an update but everytime try to update my phone goes through the process and i have to take the battery out because an exclamtion point comes up. I rooted my phone for wifi tethering and want to keep this. So how do i upgrade my evo to the latest version and still be able to use wifi tethering.

DO NOT do the OTA update or you will lose your root. Go to the EVO development forum and get a ROM based on the 3.70 update.

A yeah , don't do the OTA from sprint. Now that you started the update make sure that you are still S-OFF

You can apply the ota fine if you have s-off. All you need to do is flash the stock recovery, apply the ota, then flash clockwork or amon recovery, and then install superuser. I have done it twice now. You can find more details here and android central forums.

Just picked up my EVO couple of days ago and I can't stop modding. Anyways, I rooted my phone and tried to do OTA. Well, after reading and searching I reflashed my phone with stock RUU and then updated. Rooted again and used Titanium to get all of my files back.
Very pleased but now I'm getting bored and need to do more modding.

Rooted but still have S-On, Can I flash cm7?

I rooted a friends Incredible with ClockWorkMod a while back, he had gotten the Froyo OTA and the other update a few months later (was 17mb or so) and I went to root it then. I noticed he had S-On still even though he got the Superuser and I was able to do things like remove stock apps and other stuff that requires root. I rooted mine only after receiving froyo and I did get S-Off and successfully installed cm7! Will I be able to install cm7 on my friends phone? If not what can I do to install it? Will I have to unroot and root again? Can anyone provide me with the best explanation on how to get cm7 on his phone? Thank you.

Or you could easily get S-OFF by flashing it in CWM.
