[Q] returning phone - what exactly to return to stock?

My 4g was broken with the 3.29 update (really). The Sprint store was nice enough to order me a replacement after they determined they couldn't fix it. It'll come in a day, then I mail back the old phone.
I have used unrevoked 3.21 to root and put Amon-RA on it in the past. Before going to the store to have it checked out, I reflashed the stock 3.29. Amon-RA is still on there but it's not-rooted. Is there anything I should do before returning it so they don't say it was my fault? I think I need to reflash to S-ON. Anything
else?
Also, I think my flashing adventures are over but I'd really like root access on the new phone so I can use Titanium backup. It should have Froyo installed already. If I update to 3.29, flash Amon-RA for nandroid backups and use unrevoked 3.21 - and nothing else - that shouldn't break my 4G right? I plan to backup my mac wimax.img before doing anything.
Unrevoked has the s-on tool posted on their site just flash it first then flash the stock pc36img and ur golden, like u never even turned the phone on in the first place..sorry i would give u a link but im not sure if i can do that from xda app. U can hit me up if u have any probs

Got it. Thanks mate.
Welcome, i learned that from deleting all the sprint bloat apps and deleted the sprint voicemail by accident and i realy liked it so i had to flash the img to get it back, at the same time as the ota came out so i unrooted, flashed pc36img, ota, then reroot after making a nand backup....always nand..always

[Q] Upgrade HBOOT

My phone is currently running HBOOT-0.76.2000.
Is there anyway for me to upgrade it to the latest HBOOT without losing root?
Basically should I want to unroot for repairs (I have a dead pixel) I want to rule out I was not rooted at all.

You can do it without losing root, but I wouldnt bother until ur taking ur phone in. You could go find the pc36img from part 2 of regaw's froyo root method, and put it on ur sdcard, then reboot to bootloader and let it do its thing. It will spit you back out into stock rooted froyo though, and put you back on an older amon ra recovery. I would just wait and run an RUU when the time comes.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!

[Q] *SPECIFIC* unroot question

Ok.....I'm sorry for another unroot post. But, I need to take my phone back to Sprint and want to be positive about getting root back.
I rooted with Unrevoked 3.21 and was going to use this procedure to unroot:
For those that were like I was, having used Unrevoked3 to root 2.1, below is the Froyo update so you can then flash to 2.2, then accept the OTA currently out. (FPS fix)
Download the file as is, and copy it to the ROOT of your SD card
On your evo, hold down the DOWN volume button, then hold and press POWER, you will boot into the bootloader, from there choose Recovery, then Install update.zip, let it do it's thing, in a few minutes you will boot back to your regular screen, Froyo updated, but no root access. From here you can then apply the new OTA update, and you'll be fully updated, and can now use Unrevoked3.21 to re-gain root!! No data loss, simple!! For google reference, the Froyo update file was originally named:
OTA_Supersonic_3.26.651.6-1.47.651.1_releasem24cfnusi9dsrr6i.zip
I have already renamed it as it should be, the above is just for google search, so for those looking for a copy!! Thanks to everyone that helped with this request!!
Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: update.zip
Is this method ok to use? It says I can take standard OTA updates and still get root back later. Does this sound like that will work? Would like to take my phone in completely factory stock @ 2.2 if possible.
Thanks.
Anyone? Anyone?
I feel like Ben Stein.
Simplest way to get back to 100% stock is to run the Unrevoked Forever S-OFF tool, then run the RUU. Some people have trouble getting the RUU to work, though.

[Q] Unrevoked stuck at "Flashing recovery. Do not touch your phone!"

I was running unrevoked3 in order to full root my phone (I think it was rooted, but not nand unlocked before - I was running the Fresh Rom and want to switch to cyannogen)
After unrevoked went through two root processes, and stated "this is a triumph," the phone rebooted again and got stuck at the HTC EVO 4G white screen.
Unrevoked states ""Flashing recovery. Do not touch your phone!" So, uh, I don't want to touch my phone.
What do? Should I just pull the battery and try again? or am I going to brick the freaking thing?
It's been on the white screen for a half hour now.
Just so you know, all you had to do was flash unrevoked forever through recovery.
I think it's fine to unplug or pull the battery. Afterwards, you may need to flash recovery, but other than that you should be fine.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Hmmm. Flashing the recovery should take next to el zilcho in time.
You stated that you possibly already had root user access on your evo, but you were not sure if you had unlocked nand. Then you tried to run unrevoked again to fully root.
I believe it's a bad idea to perform a root method which is designed to perform a full root operation as if your device was fully stock, on a partial root device.
As long as the process is only trying to flash a recovery you should be OK to pull the battery.
Here are my suggestions to continue:
- Find the AmonRa PC36IMG in his thread in the dev section. Place on root of SD card. Poweroff device - Reboot into bootloader and let the recovery flash.
- If this does not work, I would recommend running a 3.70 RUU (ONLY if you are on a 3.70 ROM) and retry the root process.
Hope everything works out.
If anyone else has something to add, please do!
The first time I rooted mine, the same thing happened. I was on the IRC Channel and a few guys were talking me through it, and one guy said just pull the battery nad reboot to Hboot and reflash recovery using Amon Ra (PC36IMG Version), which I did and it was no problem.
After going to unrevoked's IRC channel, and being directed to pull the battery and then follow these instructions (since i was already S-OFF): h.ttp://noobgui.de/wiki/index.php?title=What_to_do_if_you're_S-OFF_but_can't_get_root (sorry for the broken link I'm not at the point where I can post them).
Everything seems fixed. Pretty sure that's about the same thing as what you said. Thanks.
do you have S-off or the NEWEST 2.3.3 OS?
If you are S-on and on 2.3.3 why the hell are you trying to run UNREVOKED AGAIN, you cannot gain root throught that method because it doesn't work with the NEW HBOOT.
If you have S-off DOWNLOAD AMON RA NEWEST RECOVERY and put it on your SD CARD
Pull the battery from your phone put the battery back in, HOLD VOLUME DOWN and POWER on the PHONE you will be in the RECOVERY screen now let the PC36IMG.zip install and you will regain THE FULL RECOVERY and be able to flash any rom you desire, if you need ROOT all you have to do is INSTALL the SUPER USER & BUSY BOX from recovery to have a fully rooted 2.3.3
OR After installing Amon Ra's Recovery Image, just flash the Deoexed 2.3.3 over your current 2.3.3 you will be deoxed and full rooted and you wont have to reinstall any apps or change your current arrangement

Rooted 2.2 then OTA update to 2.3... half root?

Hi,
I rooted my phone with Unrevoked when it was at 2.2 froyo. When the gingerbread OTA came around I was cautious about me being rooted and accepting a OTA update. I searched all around saying it wouldn't do anything, this will happen, etc.... When I first updated it everything was fine...Until I used one of my root apps. OK fine I'm not rooted. But when i used this app called the blizzard authenticator it would say i have a rooted phone. So is my phone half rooted? If its possible, I would like to go back to the day that i first bought the phone and restart everything. I can provide further details about my phone if asked.
S-off
HBoot 2.16.0001
Thanks!
I don't quite get what you want.
But if you just want to go back like it was out of the box, hop over the development forum and grab an RUU and return to stock.
here is a link, pick one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
Oh ya i forgot. Im a n00b. So get the RUU and hope for the best?
Yep, it will erase everything (not SDCARD) and you will be back like the day it came out of the box.
Alright my noobness is kicking in haha. I see like 15 of them. [ROM] RUU SuperSonic EvO 3.70.651.1 OTA - Stock - Sense - Deodexed & Odexed Version originally posted by teshxx would be the one?
Nevermind i didnt even see ur link. Thanks so much ill post the results

If you used Unrevoked and got s-off, and then ran the ota update, to get your full root back you just need to flash either Amon ra or Clockworkmod recovery and make sure the superuser app is up to date.
Ok everything went well with the RUU. How do i know for sure this is stock 2.3 no root. Say i were to bring my evo into the sprint store for repair would they find out that i was rooted before?
before u run a ruu or pc36img u need to flash the s-on tool from unrevoked. since ur hboot is 2.16 now u have to run the 4.24 ruu or pc36img. if u do flash s-on tool and 4.24 ruu, u will NOT be able to root again as of now b/c no root method has been developed yet!! you have been warned

when u boot into bootloader does it say S-ON or S-OFF???? s-off means it has been rooted
S-Off. I might want to root in the future when there has been a root developed tho. For right now i want to go back to being non rooted.
ok...since ur s-off u can flash a recovery (clockwork or amon) from the bootloader and then start flashing roms again at anytime now. If ur trying to take ur phone to the store i dont think being s-off will really matter. As long as u have deleted any apps or files from ur sd card that are root give aways u can just play dumb at store like "uh idk maybe it came that way".
Ok so besides the fact that the S-Off Im all set? Or am i still half rooted?
u should be set
