Defy overclocked to 1ghz! - Defy General

1251 quadrant! Cheers! Milestone overclock...
Anyone want to push it further?

Woah 1.2ghz
1401 on quadrant score!
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

1.2 ghz was possible.
But it needs so high vsel......
1.2 ghz and 60vsel - freezing and reboot

but does the OC actually make a difference with the lagginess blur brings?

Yes its makes a massive difference. Really speedy around the whole phone and is very smooth. Web pages and apparently load faster.

So you are getting a 1000/60 option, hmm i only get a 1000/74
interested to see what impact this has on battery life though.
I'm getting a quadrant of 1230 with 1000/74 just imagine this combined with JIT

This is so awsome!
Works great (tried 1ghz and 1.2ghz)
1Ghz seems stable.
1.2Ghz got 600 pts and the phone crashed. I set a temperature security. The phone probably activated it.

what about underclocking to save battery? or does that only work if you undervolt as well?

I use both overclock and underclock with setCPU.
My nomal setting is 300Mhz-1Ghz on demand
When I have less than 30% of battery my setting is 300Mhz-600Mhz.

stable @1300 80vsel
quadrant 1411

Hello,
I'm new with android an the defy device but would like to oc it to 1ghz because of smoothness. Could sombody please post a short description about how to overckock the defy?
thx in advance

Great news !
It works fine. I'm using it with setCPU to keep battery safe ^^.

To use the qr code, you download the app "barcode scanner" on the marker then you scan the qr code with this app.
It ll download a file, you open it and install it (it will ask you if you want to allow installation from external source).
Now you lanch the app, load the module (you need to root the phone using the app z4root), set the frequency and push Apply.

HAve you tried neoreader? - thats my preferred barcode scanner - prefer it over barcode scanner.

Thanks so far a lot, but i hang after i scanned the barecode, the file can't be downloaded. is there a mirrow for it?

Overclock
Successfully OC'd to 1000 and 1200 mhz, quadrant results are 1240 and 1329, very happy with that
The barcode scanning doesnt work for me either, so i searched and found this: http://milestone-overclock.googleco...a4.apk&token=4257d3af3a47d61fdd014272dd5d6ea8
Hope this helps, so far no hangs etc running 1200 but ill keep it on 1ghz to save battery
EDIT: Just did custom freq, 1300mhz with 86; got 1387 quadrant- beating n1 2.2

Does this work??
how safe i to use that
Awesome. Need to be careful though.
Anyone tested?? we may have something big here!!! (if its working..!!)
Max values..?? Performance improvements?? Some benchmarks?
Because after some research i did , i saw that our processor is capable even for speeds almost double its original value!! (some say 850 and report fast and stable!!)
Lets see!!
What the hell?
800MHZ on the HD?
thats crazy!
Yeah it works
you need to install the cab and soft reset
after in All settings > System
a new icon appear : processor
set it there .
you can't overclock speed actually with this tool
but, you can slow down a lot the cpu to save a lot's of battery during idle process.
Does anyone know what these value are by default? We could actually make battery life worse if we set higher values for backlight off, etc than the factory settings...
It is not working. I try it again and again.
Set all values to 256.00 and it loose this settings after exit or if the device go to sleep.
Under "Current processor speed:" it shows 256.00 and if I go again to this setting it shows the "normal" 528mhz.

Don't tell me the Touch HD actually doesn't manage it's CPU speed on its own!?!? Even my old Axim x51v did that!!!
there is another thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507212
I ' have try this :
Default :528mhz
After 5s 256mhz (this doesn't work I think, but not sure)
When backlight off : 82mhz
When suspend : 19mhz
So after all night of sleeping, my battery haven't lose any bare.
I will test it more, I think they greatly improve battery life.
so just keep testing.

Qualcomm is not Intel-Marvel !
I tested the tool from April 21th to April 25th. 5 days without recharge!
Otherwise i was charging my Blackstone every two days and i've running ICQ in backround around the clock. So i'm online once i turn on my telephone. It works perfect for me!
Setup:
idle after 5000ms: 384 MHz
on backlight of: 122.88 MHz
on suspend: 122.88 MHz
Sorry for my bad english
hi, first of all, thank yu for sharing.
second: Ihave put the exe file on my HD and run it from my phone but it keeps saying:
"your phone is preventing installation, we can try to automatically fix this, but we need to restart your device. continue?"
and when I cic yes, it restarts and nothing happens. so I run the programm again, and get the same message.
anyone have any idea wha the problem might be?
thank you in advance
Installed v1.2 and changed profile to "Power saving", but the cpu clock is still at 528MHz?
For me resulted in more battery drain (version 1. BTW 1.2 doesn't work)
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3692764&postcount=77
@jouh:
Click on "File" -> "Reset Active Profile". The value of "Active Profile" should change from "Default" to yours and you can see the de-/increasing CPU speed now.

Can you tell us, where did you read about this overclocking to 850 MHz. I would like to learn more about it. Like others say, this program cannot overclock but only underclock. Please give us some links. Thanks
Version 1.2 results excessive battery drain to me too (8-12% per hour, in suspend mode).

[APP] RogueTools v1.1 - [Overclock & Change Screen Density] - [Updated: 04/27/2010]
I now present you with RogueTools v1.1.
Summary:
This application is designed for the Vogue, Kaiser, Polaris and Nike devices. It allows you to dynamically overclock your device as well as change the screen density.
Requirements:
This application requires write access to your /system so this will only work on EXT2 and NAND installations.
Overclocking Notes:
Overclocking results will vary. Based upon the beta test results everyone was able to Overclock to 500mhz and have very stable results. Above this results really were mixed. Give it a try, I'd love to hear your results.
To download, search in the market for "RogueTools"

Future Versions:
I'm looking for some creative ideas on other additions you'd like to see added to this application. So if you have some thoughts, please let me know.
Changelog:
04/27/2010
Added device support for Nike
04/24/2010
Version 1
Awesome. Can't wait to try.
Will this affect the battery life?
Right now the battery is bad enough with android, but it does sound really nice.
Nice,
will try it out
Overclocking will always effect battery life negatively. Under-clocking will increase it.
You don't always need your Kaiser running at 400 Mhz, but I think Android throttles it anyway.

I've set mine to 500 Mhz, any chanche for overheating (when going higher then 500)?
(I've deleted some .apk packages (voice dialer,...) and together with this tweak it runs really great, almost 40MB free ram whe killing all apps)
Great app. Can someone give a bit more info about the "increase screen dpi" option? When and why would I want to use this feature? What is a "good" value?

I can't say for sure since I'm not the one that developed this, but it seems to me that it should actually save your battery since it underclocks when the phone is sleeping, unless of course you're actively using it a lot while at 500mhz or more, in which case you'd use your battery quicker and run the risk of overheating. Like I said, I can't be certain, so you may want to wait for a reply from myn himself on it.

It should be set at 120dpi by default, at least it was for me. The dpi is "dots per inch," which is pretty much what it sounds like. If you make the value higher, it will make things larger. If you make it smaller, well you get the idea. I played around with it some to check it out, but I'm happy with the default dpi.
Thanks tony. I guess it could be useful for applications that do not work correctly in Kaiser's QVGA, like iGO for example. Would a lower dpi setting compensate for iGO's larger resolution design?
Reducing the DPI makes everything small so iGO might work but it will make reading everything harder.

Benchmark Scores

This thread is for people to post their benchmark scores.
Please explain:
1.) What ROM/Kernel you are using
2.) What app you used for Benchmarking e.g. CF-Bench / Antutu / Quadrant etc.
3.) What OC/UV settings are in use if any.
Also post a screenshot if possible
Curious to see what scores people are hitting on different ROM/kernel combo's.
I am on Bigxie's v8 rom and his apex kernel with no additional performance settings, here are the results without a fresh reboot;
CF - Bench :
Native: 10895 , Java : 3234 , Overall : 6298
Antutu :
5838
Quadrant :
2057
I rebooted the phone and ran Quadrant again, the score was 1849, then ran again and the score was 2066, Quadrant is a joke I guess Antutu was 5843 after reboot, so, I guess it is more reliable.
Sweet. I am using Android Revolution HD 2.1.3 with Jame Bond kernel at 1.4GHz.
CF Bench total is 7336
Antutu total was 6660
And I don't bother with Quadrant

Hi,
It depends on many things...
The kernel first (i never tested the Leankernel,by Imoseyon i suppose)...So the cpu freq/gpu overclock, for me everything is notified, details in kernel/rom threads specified...
Then the rom,the rom does not always the job but...
The governor choice, the min cpu frequence...
The conditions:after reboot, apps running in background (killed/not killed) and the most important i think (exept the kernel) is the cpu temperature...
If you run multiple benchs one after the other ->the cpu heats ->thermal protection->lower scores...
Thats all...For me...Just test,reboot,wait for lower cpu temperature,change min cpu frequence,governor,etc...
In any case this thread is just for benchs...
If your Gnex runs well with your settings (rom+kernel),all is smooth and fast and good battery life for you, whatever the benchs scores...You do not care about this.
It's just a "game" i think
As i always said, for me,all is perfect in term of UI (smooth and fast) and battery life...So i test something else ... the benchmarks

[APP] CPUStats - simple cpu statistics

Hello there!
I had Motorola Milestone before S3, and I developed this app. Since it seems that there were few users that found it use full, I rewrite it to suport multi-cores and S3 phone.
In short:
This app will show info and details about your phone CPU, like active governor, active cores, total system uptime, wake time, deep sleep time and frequency details. It auto refreshes every one second, and on my S3 it takes less than 8% of cpu...
I tested it on stock XELLA rom with siyah kernel, but it should work on any rom/kernel versions _IF_ kernel has cpufreq_stats enabled and loaded.
If some values are 0 or -1 it means that it cannot read those values, either because file doesn't have read-all permissions or cpufreq_stats is not enabled/loaded, and would be nice if you'd report that back.
Also, this file _should_ work with almost any android device, but I only have S3 to test it, so if you have another device, please test it and report back result, with info about phone/rom/kernel.
Any comments and suggestions are welcome!!
updates:
v0.21 - added temperature reading. Temperature is from CPU directly and not from battery! This will almost certainly work only on S3 (and maybe device with similar SoC)...
P.S.
Version starts from 0.2 because I reused lot of code from old app...
P.P.S.
Original thread is here.
P.P.S.
I hope that I posted this to correct forum section!

2 small things, please take look at screenshot
1. The core 3 is position shifted... I guess because both core 1 and 2 are off, and double off took 2 more spaces than double on so...
2. could you hide unused frequencies? I am using Siyah, which is able to use 200 to 1800 but I set maximum to 1400, so you may consider don't show those unused frequency so occupy less place?
By the way, could you explain what "frequency transition " means?

Frequency transitions is number of frequency hops. so, it's number of times that cpu changed frequency.

A little thinking, I assume in frequency detail
It says "CPU (governor ) "
And beneath that there 2 sets of numbers, number in ( ) are means current setting min and max I think? But if so, consider you put word governor inside ( ), the number below shouldn't show up otherwise?
And I guess current frequency , something like 200 (200), is kinda useless (no offense, please don't get me wrong, maybe you put there for some purpose, but I just don't see it )

no offense taken!
one number is what CPU reports it's frequency, and in () is number which governor says that CPU frequency is.
because those two number don't need to be same, altought most of time they are same. not shure did I explained well!

Result from My Experiences With CyanogenMod 10 Alpha6

Hey guys.. Maybe I'm new in Android platform. But Linux is my expert as a contributor of Backtrack 5 in Indonesia. It's been 3 months, since I have an Android phone. Yes, my first Android phone is Samsung Galaxy W. So let's see what are the results of my experiences on CyanogenMod.
1st Month:
1. Successfully rooted my device.
2. Successfully install CM Alpha2.
3. Hard Brick because using Swapper2
4. Successfully Revive My Phone by brought it to Service Center (It's free, since I never mention 'brick' and 'root' words)
2nd Month:
1. So I decide to install CM Alpha2 again.
2. Set amount of ZRam Compression will allow you to gain a swap file. Swap file space depend on how much you compress it.
3. Kernel 3.0 didn't support swap file anymore, anyway, changing ZRam compression will affect on antutu benchmark score. Disabling ZRam compression will make higher score.
3rd Month
1. Finally, I choose to pick CM 10 Alpha 4.1 Kernel 2.6. On fresh install, you'll get 62XX score on antutu benchmark. It pretty cool since using stock ROM will get 32XX score on antutu bencmark!
2. Today, I try to overclock my CPU using this patch
3. And Adrenaline Engine
4. Also Unlimited Boost and Seeder.
5. I set my phone using SmartAssV2 Governor with freq between 245 MHz - 1804 MHz, Deadline I/O Scheduler, also without ZRam Compression.
The result is.... I Got 6600 on Antutu Benchmark..

If you've got better result than mine, could you share with us?? Any question will be answered here..

Meh, Antutu -- and other synthetic benchmarks -- are meaningless numbers

is there any other bugs for CM10,cause have a bad experience of using CM10 on my phone before..now choose to use CM9 rather than CM10.
1. Please, for the love of all things holy, DO NOT quote the whole OP, especially if it's lengthy like this one's.
2. For bugs & other discussions pertaining CM10, there's a thread for that.

i did used CM10 before and tested relevant with benchmarking tools, never manage to get scores that more than 4k..don't know whats wrong, mine using sandisk 32gb UHS-1 memory card..so is the version of CM10 matters or what personally matters?
great story and partially it's so funny
