Hey guys.. Maybe I'm new in Android platform. But Linux is my expert as a contributor of Backtrack 5 in Indonesia. It's been 3 months, since I have an Android phone. Yes, my first Android phone is Samsung Galaxy W. So let's see what are the results of my experiences on CyanogenMod.
1st Month:
1. Successfully rooted my device.
2. Successfully install CM Alpha2.
3. Hard Brick because using Swapper2
4. Successfully Revive My Phone by brought it to Service Center (It's free, since I never mention 'brick' and 'root' words)
2nd Month:
1. So I decide to install CM Alpha2 again.
2. Set amount of ZRam Compression will allow you to gain a swap file. Swap file space depend on how much you compress it.
3. Kernel 3.0 didn't support swap file anymore, anyway, changing ZRam compression will affect on antutu benchmark score. Disabling ZRam compression will make higher score.
3rd Month
1. Finally, I choose to pick CM 10 Alpha 4.1 Kernel 2.6. On fresh install, you'll get 62XX score on antutu benchmark. It pretty cool since using stock ROM will get 32XX score on antutu bencmark!
2. Today, I try to overclock my CPU using this patch
3. And Adrenaline Engine
4. Also Unlimited Boost and Seeder.
5. I set my phone using SmartAssV2 Governor with freq between 245 MHz - 1804 MHz, Deadline I/O Scheduler, also without ZRam Compression.
The result is.... I Got 6600 on Antutu Benchmark..

is there any other bugs for CM10,cause have a bad experience of using CM10 on my phone before..now choose to use CM9 rather than CM10.
1. Please, for the love of all things holy, DO NOT quote the whole OP, especially if it's lengthy like this one's.

i did used CM10 before and tested relevant with benchmarking tools, never manage to get scores that more than 4k..don't know whats wrong, mine using sandisk 32gb UHS-1 memory card..so is the version of CM10 matters or what personally matters?
great story and partially it's so funny

Admin Edit: Links removed at OP request. I believe they will be available elsewhere. I have always ben very anti-setcpu, but profiles with this kernel really are a must if you want a smooth experience without constant freezing.
This is pershoots source code as of 04/25/2011 with added overclocking patches, all governors available, swap (requested) with a max scaling frequency of 1.708ghz (1708800) YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE THE USB MOUNT ISSUES present in flippy's kernel.
YMMV - Overclocking seems pretty unstable above 1.708 with the current state of the kernel (trust me i tried MANY different voltage variables, different schedulers etc..) that's why 1.8 and 1.9 are not supported, and will not be until they are stable for me again.
DO NOT SCALE ABOVE 1.516 without setting scaling governor to performance, or raising the min cpu frequency as you will experience lockups, setcpu profiles are useful in this situation. screen off profiles should have a MAX frequency of above 768 (this way when the screen goes back on it will ramp to the higher freqency THEN ramp back to the oc'd 1.708 without the jump from 245 causing a freeze) if you want to go with ondemand scaling and want the max at 1.708, you will have the most luck with min at 806 (even then it can and likely will freeze)
Edit: testing screen off profiles, it looks like you can pick whatever you want, currently mine us set to 245 min 368 max. No issues yet.
I have my device set for 368 min 1.708 max performance governor on boot and it hasnt frozen in the last two days. scaling through frequencies, or if the delta between min and max is too high, you may get a kernel panic and a battery pull will be required.
My particular setup (recommended):
on boot - 368 min, 1.708 max performance
screen off - 245 min 806 max ondemand (allows idle speed at 245)
battery < 50% 245 min 806 max ondemand
The same rules basically apply with this OC kernel that applied to flippy's. I'm not responsible for any damage that may result from your use of this kernel. yada yada yada.
you should retain wifi, gps, etc.. if not, flash it again, you did something wrong.
freezes? lockups? lower your clock speed, they shouldnt happen with any more frequency than with pershoots kernel if you stay at 1.516 and below. above that, if you experience a freeze, a last_kmsg wont help, the kernel failed to sync and panicked, there is nothing i can do about that. sorry.
wake-lag? i've gone over that, but here we go again:
generally with oc kernels:
oc+screen on/off animations+brightness > 50% = no wake lag
oc+screen on/off animations+brightness < 50% = wake lag
it isnt ideal, but get a program called screen filter from the market to apply a lesser brightness when above 50% so you dont experience the wake lag.
Enjoy.
There is weirdness with benchmarks, if you've oc'd and you know it should be higher, reset the scaling options in cm settings and try again. It's very weird and i havent put together a full list of what causes the behavior, more as it develops i guess.

Any chance of adding the smartass governor ?
I've read many things about that and nobody never included it in a kernel.
Only in roms.
Your kernel is really good so was wondering
This is awsome! Kernel is running fast and stable. Although i don't clock it all the way up to 1700 i love that i finally can use pershoot kernel with interactive governor.
Thanks very much!

Same here if you don't mind
Don't mind at all, for the person who asked, there is source for the smartass governor, I just need to locate it and merge. I'll look into it today.
Will flash tonight with the latest CM nightly. Thanks
This show promise and potential. Love, love love. Did you ever find the source for the smartass governor?
Found the this on github. It's the smartass source from a kernel for the HTC Shift, should be the same mostly.
Also this governor look interesting, maybe give an alpha release with this one in it for testing? Scary just sounds like a bada$$ name for a governor. It's from Scaryghoul btw, just to give credit.
Thanks for this amazinglarry. I'm gonna test this out for a few days before I can give you some useful feedback.
In the meantime, can I refer you to a kernel in the MT4G section that seems to try to accomplish exactly what you are doing (all available kernels, high overclock, etc.). It has all the source readily available. The link is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2491887
I'll take a look. Gracias.
Please forgive my ignorance but what might this offer over pershoots kernal? His newest kernal fixed a huge headache I had with wifi and I don't want that headache back. Is it just the addition of higher oc and the added govenators or is there more added as well?
No, just, swap, governors, and overclocking a bit more.
I'm getting instability with the camera and gallery. It either locks up or saves pictures as a black square. Gallery FC's when I try to delete pictures. As far as I recall, this didn't happen with pershoots or stock CM. I'm running 7.0.2 with no profiles, clocked at 245-979 on demand with CM settings, no setcpu. When I can get in front of a computer with adb ill post some logs.

I'm not able to reproduce, camera and gallery are working st 806 and 1.708 on my device, clear pictures, no force closes.
Grab some logs, there should be very little difference in functionality (if any) between this version and the official version of pershoot's kernel, unless he does some magic that isn't in his git, which I highly suspect, seeing as how quadrant scores are a little lower at the same clock speeds with my version and his.
But as far as functions and drivers, you shouldn't have issues.
I'm thinking its something wrong with my setup. I reflashed pershoots kernel, cleared caches, and ran a fix_permission. I no longer have force closes but my camera isn't saving? Ill have to look into it.

I am using your kernel right now. The colours are not bad but still wish i could control the contrast through the voodoo app. P.s does this kernel automatically converts everything to EXT4 or is it manual because weirdly i get really rubbish quadrants scores on [F1 Galaxy S2 V3.1] rom :/
Nice.
Couple of things to note, OC WILL freeze on some phones, including mine... every phone is different.
Ondemand sample rate of 40000 may cause music to stutter and will need to be raised to something like 60000+.
Nice work though.

Unfortunately, raising/tuning voltages can sometimes make things more unstable. Some CPU's simply can't handle it no matter what you do. That's just my experience though, we'll see how it goes for others.

This thread is for people to post their benchmark scores.
Please explain:
1.) What ROM/Kernel you are using
2.) What app you used for Benchmarking e.g. CF-Bench / Antutu / Quadrant etc.
3.) What OC/UV settings are in use if any.
Also post a screenshot if possible
Curious to see what scores people are hitting on different ROM/kernel combo's.
I am on Bigxie's v8 rom and his apex kernel with no additional performance settings, here are the results without a fresh reboot;
CF - Bench :
Native: 10895 , Java : 3234 , Overall : 6298
Antutu :
5838
Quadrant :
2057
I rebooted the phone and ran Quadrant again, the score was 1849, then ran again and the score was 2066, Quadrant is a joke I guess Antutu was 5843 after reboot, so, I guess it is more reliable.
Sweet. I am using Android Revolution HD 2.1.3 with Jame Bond kernel at 1.4GHz.
CF Bench total is 7336
Antutu total was 6660
And I don't bother with Quadrant

Benchs aren't says anything but very bad benchs,in general, for the phone i've haded:bad UI,bad games,etc...So in general higher is the bench, higher is the UI for most phones
In any case with that i've posted above always is perfect:smooth, speed, reactive, flyin and...What else

Hi,
It depends on many things...
The kernel first (i never tested the Leankernel,by Imoseyon i suppose)...So the cpu freq/gpu overclock, for me everything is notified, details in kernel/rom threads specified...
Then the rom,the rom does not always the job but...
The governor choice, the min cpu frequence...
The conditions:after reboot, apps running in background (killed/not killed) and the most important i think (exept the kernel) is the cpu temperature...
If you run multiple benchs one after the other ->the cpu heats ->thermal protection->lower scores...
Thats all...For me...Just test,reboot,wait for lower cpu temperature,change min cpu frequence,governor,etc...
In any case this thread is just for benchs...
If your Gnex runs well with your settings (rom+kernel),all is smooth and fast and good battery life for you, whatever the benchs scores...You do not care about this.
It's just a "game" i think
As i always said, for me,all is perfect in term of UI (smooth and fast) and battery life...So i test something else ... the benchmarks

I think you have a minor typo in OP 'turn off CPU 2' should be 'turn off CPU 1' as cores are CPU 0, CPU 1 (duel core) then CPU 2 and CPU 3 (for quad core device)

Yes I know that, but for not developers people seeing a number 1 is like the first CPU will be off. Since you normally start counting with the number 1. I did name it number 1 in one of the tests and I received a lot of e-mails asking me if its safe to turn off the first CPU and why I'm not doing it with the second CPU. So I decided to change the number so that way people wont get confused.
So basically you are right, but I did it on purpose.

>>> Welcome to Turbo ZRAM!! turbo ZRAM Script V1.2 <<<
===============================
What is Turbo ZRAM?
It is a unique performance mod which sets up 4 parallel zram swaps for kernels with the zram module. The swaps are set to run at the same priority so the Linux kernel is able to multi-thread the swap process on our powerful quad core devices. Zram runs super fast with no lag
What does zram do in the first place?
Zram is a virtual disk which resides in RAM itself. App data sitting in the memory is compressed while it is not in use to 1/3 its original size. Effectively your phone has more memory!
Regular single-swap zram can lag considerably while it compresses/decompresses the swap data. Turbo zram solves this issue
Why would we need zram on a device with 2GB of RAM?
Well it depends on what you want to do with your device but why wouldn't you want to effectively create more memory out of thin air?
Also Samsung TW has notorious LAG and multi-tasking issues which this mod solves. The zram swaps keep the memory from maxing out as often so the TW lag is almost eliminated...
Finally, Multi-tasking is MASSIVELY boosted. You can keep more big apps running in memory without them being killed too early... test this yourself you will be able to multitask without hiccups to your hearts content.

This mod now comes in a stand-alone init.d boot-script version as well as the main app version.
The scripts come in 3 size choices as flashable CWM zips which also set up the reuired dedicated busybox

Turbo ZRAM app V1.2c:
>>> I Finally figured out how to set the swaps via init.d script!... Set on boot now runs via init.d
>>> App no longer needs a running service so takes up less RAM.
>>> Commands further tweaked to rely on the custom busybox. This should help people experiencing issues due to the wrong busybox setup.

THIS MOD REQUIRES A KERNEL WITH ZRAM SET UP AS A MODULE IN /system/lib/modules/. IT IS DESIGNED FOR KT KERNELS TW VERSIONS WHICH HAVE THIS SETUP
I think you meant to put this in Android Development But good job otherwise!

It's original development since i'm the first to come up with this idea so it's not cooked from existing bits n pieces

Original Development is stuff (ROMs/KERNELS) compiled from SOURCE code. "Ideas" are not Original Development. You would prolly be better off having it go in Android Development or even Theme's And Apps Or general. But this is surely not Original Development. BTW ZRAM has been around for a very long time, so i don't see how your the first to come up with the idea..

Yeah but I've never seen anyone set up four zram disks with an equal priority so they run in parallel and boost performance massively. .. But your point is taken. Apps n MODs is probably a better category
