Just rooted and flashed myns Rom but I like stock - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my Evo yesterday and flashed myns rom. I like the stock Rom that my phone came with and I would like to return to it. I would like to improve battery life as much as I can but with the stock Rom. So my questions are, Where can I download the stock Rom? I have hw 004 and it came with 3.30.651.3 second question is, what could I do to the stock Rom to improve battery life?

Sprint Lovers is a very close to stock rom, your best bet probally lies there. After that, you can try running a few apps like SetCPU and Juice Defender. You do have to pay for SetCPU from the marketplace though, so it may not be your first choice.
A task watcher or killer also helps, I tend to lean towards Watchdog over something like Advanced Task Killer. You can also try AutoKiller Memory Optimizer, but if you don't know what you're doing, I'd suggest leaving it on the standard settings.

Is the stock available for download? Let's just say incase of warranty purposes and I had to unroot

You should ALWAYS nandroid backup your current phone image before flashing any ROMs. If you would have, you'd be able to easily revert to the stock.
It is available somewhere, but not sure where for 004/3.30.

I did nandroid backup it was part of the instructions I followed to flash a rom. I didn't know that nandroid backup was for that. Thank you.

Watch out, doing that nandroid recovery doesn't get you back to the stock rom for Sprint warrenties.
What you want is How to Unroot the EVO in 2 steps. After that you can take it back to Sprint with no worries whatsoever.

So what is I want a stock rom with some of the sprint stuff removed, is there a way to remove the sprint stuff manually?

Nandroid recovery then unroot for warranty purposes correct? I want to stay rooted so I just did Nandroid recovery...I'm all good for now. Just wanted stock Rom

In these forums are rooted odex/deodex versions of 3.30.xxx.x. Choose your flavor. Improving battery life is subjective at best and the answer comes from you trying anything and everything. People can tell you what works for them but you should take it with a grain of salt, try it, and expect the worst.
Personally, I improved battery life with one simple solution...extended battery. I have tried many roms for the evo and have settled on a rom I built myself. It's funny because I flashed kernels and roms trying to find the best for me and I ended up making my own and using the stock kernel (I have also extended the stock kernel but that's a different animal).

Yes. If you put in the effort you can find anything and everything you need in these forums. If you're good with google you can venture further. I'm not trying to be a **** but I am trying to let you know everything and anything you need is easily found somehwere in this wonderland of a forum.

If you are rooted get titanium backup and uninstall whatever you want including sprint apps.

Again for me I settled on a stock rom I built. I still uninstalled all the sprint stuff and I found that uninstalling every single sense related gibberish helped improve my evo overall (battery, speed, responsiveness, memory space). My info/personal experience is also subjective but you can take it, try it, and if it doesn't work for you nandroid restore is your friend and lifesaver.
Good luck.

Thank you very much. I don't thing your being a ****, I Google a lot of what I asked I just can be a bit ocd and wanted to get info from a forum I trust. Its been a while since I did any flashing but I pick things up pretty fast. I'm gonna try sprint lovers next since its close to stock and experiment with others until I find what fits me best. Again thanks for your input.

what? doing the nand backup? that's just in case the kernel doesn't work you can restore to the previous condition your phone was in (so do it before you flash baked's kernel)
I'm not sure if his kernels will work on other roms though, I think I tried once
I've used it on my ROM what ROM are you using that might help.

Yes the kernel can help with battery life. You should be ok with flashing a different kernel and that ROM but as posted do a NAND backup before flashing the kernel.

#6 has never been available for download. I used BS 1.7 on NA 4.19 and my battery was day and a half if not better with average use...seriously. I was amazed. I tried all the baked kernels and nothing worked like that.
Now I am on BS 1.8 using the same kernel and not getting near the same batt life.

I have no clue how you guys are doing it, but I have the 1.7 version with kernel 6.
I took it off the charger this morning (after a full charge), it is now almost dead, with very little use.
How do you guys do it? Your not shopping the images are you?
This is a newb question I know, I have searched all over the forums. i have the stock rom and am not interested in any of the roms since most of them seem to not have 4g working or some other things( cant wait until they do!). My question is how do I flash just the kernel? i have never flashed anything before and I just backed up everything with rom manager. thanks!!!

Wipe cache, wipe dalvic, flash like you would a Rom. Don't forget to nand first.
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Edit - I'm assuming there's a specific kernel you have that you want to flash, and you didn't mean how to extract the kernel from a full Rom - also just noticed that you said you already backed up with rom manager. You may want to consider backing up manually through recovery or using amonra instead - nobody seems to know what exactly rom manager wipes when you tell it to wipe.

i think you're misinformed (or haven't searched hard enough) - most, if not all, sense based ROMs have everything working and some (i.e. wireless/usb tether, performance/efficiency tweaks, etc.). it's the cm/aosp roms that don't have everything working (yet).
flashing kernels is similar to flashing roms. there is a plethora of threads on the topic. read some of the stickies and many of your questions will be answered to get you started with flashing roms/kernels.
edit: sorry i never know about this is paid version i tooked from his old xda thread, BTW thanks for let me know about that

I have been on this forum for weeks trying to decipher all the lingo. I have not seen any Evo roms that have the 4g working, If i did I would have just used one of those.Trust me, i have searched all over this forum and others before bothering or asking stupid questions. Maybe I am searching the wrong stuff, I will search for sense based roms, thank you.
Also, I have never flashed anything before. Still trying to figure that one out. Thanks for the info guys!

here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=653
all roms are there. aosp roms are usually the roms where everything is not working.
general steps to flashing (but always read the post from the developer for any special instructions):
1. download file to sd card
2a. get into recovery (either via quickboot app or via powering down then holding volume down button while powering up)
2b. navigating in recovery - volume keys to change selection, power button to select
3. nand backup
4. wipe data, cache and dalvik (only wipe cache and dalvik if you're flashing a kernel)
5. flash the rom/kernel you downloaded
6. reboot
7. drink beer
if something goes wrong, get back into recovery and restore your nand backup.
hope this gets you started.... but read, read, read.
good luck.
sorry OP - back on topic. did you wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the kernel? what's your up time and awake time (found in settings>about phone>battery). do you have any monitoring apps installed (i.e. system panel, android system info? you may have rogue app.

[Q] HBOOT Questions: Back to sense from cyanogenmod

I've done a bunch of googling and can't seem to get a straight answer so I thought I'd just ask. I apologize for the noobishness of this question and thank every kind soul in advance for your help on this form in general and this question in particular.
To install cyanogenmod I had to install an older hboot (.76.2000 (pc361)). I did so and things are okay but I really need to wireless tether with 4G these days. So I want to go back to stock. When I try to restore my nandroid backup i get an error restoring the boot image. From what I've found this is due to the hboot version I'm using.
So my question is this: can I simply update the hboot to something newer? Would that remove my ability to run an nandroid recovery? Would I be better just doing a RUU recovery from scratch (or is that even possible)? Essentially, what is the fastest and safest way to get back to a stock image?
Thanks again for your help with this.
So I grabbed the latest RUU and thought I'd give that a shot. It won't work though as it won't see the phone...even though Windows is seeing the phone in device manager. I'm guessing this has to do with SENSE not being on there.
Can one extract the files from the RUU installer and just apply them via the clockwork recovery?
Sorry no one responded sooner you can just use the warm 2. 2 Rom its very good has 4g and Sprint hotspot is hacked automatically and its got a custom version of sense give it a go put it on the root of SD and flash through recovery no need for stock you'll see its enjoyable

From what I heard, the sprint hotspot app only tethers on 3G. Any truth to this?
I battled with the exact same issue. Search my posts for my thoughts and findings in this.
Briefly though, I can say I that you are on the money and I too didn't know how to get past this hboot issue, but I found a way around the issue.
from the beginning, To flash Cm6 you must flash to an older hboot, don't remember the version.
To perform a nandroid restore to your stock sense Rom backup you already made, that is now not working, you have to go back to that hboot you had before you went to the older on to get Cm6 to flash.
Here's how I did it with a little bonus info.
You can now ever make a nandroid backup of Cm6, incase you might want to go back to Cm6.
Use the 3.29. Ruu to get away from cm6 and put that hboot you need to run that nandroid restore to the sense Rom backup you made. This will make you completely stock.
Then you can use unrevoked to root again.
Now you can edo your nandroid restore to your backups that wouldn't work because our hboot is good to go now.
Also, good thing to know is that you can nandroid restore back to your Cm6 backup, if you made one, because its the flashing that requires that other hboot, not a nandroid backup.

This is good info on how to go back to stock. If I weren't so damn busy with work and such I'd even think it should be a wiki article. The world of ROMs and ROOT is a fun place to play and opens up a lot of doors, but for a n00b you can feel kind of stuck. I thin it's because each phone/mfg tends to have their own quirks and so you can read general info but there are always these little variances which make me utterly afraid of bricking a $200 device....
I went with the Warm Two Point Two and, wow, it's slick. It gives me the 4G i needed and works quite well. It does also appear to tether over 4G as well. I'm very happy. But, again, it's good to have the steps outlined to go back to stock because I'm sure I won't be the last person to want to know how to do this.
Thanks again for all your help!

[Q] My girlfriend's phone

So my girlfriend finally let me root her. I mean her Evo. LoL. She won't let me flash a custom rom however but I have done a few things like a custom kernal and V6 supercharger without her knowing. She wouldn't know where look to find that out any way. Can someone recommend a rom that will look stock as possible and everything works. I'm trying to save her battery most of all. Maybe later I will tell her it's custom but for now I want to keep it a secret. Thanks for the help guys.
Stock ROM
LOL...that's funny. Well, think you answered your question yourself, you already have a stock rom. But, if your looking for battery life I would try something simpler:
1. Use Lithids freedom kernel
2. calibrate battery
3. Use Juice Defender
4. Install Amon Ra recovery do a nandroid for sure
Hopefully you can twist her arm and have her try a custom rom for her next step.
There are numerous stock rooted ROMs that have been tweaked and have boatware removed. Search and ye shall find
All the best

Team Nocturnal Stock, just switch out the boot animation if you want it stock as possible. Oh and paired with ChopSuey kernel or Agressive Freedom if her phone can handle it. And look at Juwe's memory script, I was very impressed and replaced V6 with it

[Q] Stock ROM and Freedoms Kernel for Overclocking

I have read up on some sites, but still sort of unclear. I have a EVO 4G, on sprint, on the stock rom and rooted 2.3.3, I have removed all the bloatware and am curious about Overclocking the phone.
My question is, can I flash freedom's kernel on the stock sprint rom? And if I can, Ill need to run freedoms sense kernel correct? thanks again.

Any Sense kernel should work. As long as it says it's for Sense and not AOSP you should be good. Probably wouldn't hurt to do a backup just in case it doesn't boot.
Yeah I already made a Nandroid Backup, Im kinda paranoid with the wont boot up thing lol. Thanks again guys.
Make sure u use a GB kernel on a GB rom or you will lose camera and video capabilities
We are legion, for we are many.
You must use sense based kernels on sense roms, and aosp kernels on aosp roms. Some can be interchanged, but expect broken things; Wimax, wifi, camera, etc.
As long as you're backed up, if it boot loops, just go into recovery and restore. Everything will be fine. Add a side note, download titanium backup. Will eventually save your ass one day.
Edit: also, as started, must be same platform too. Can't use GB kernel on froyo and vice versa

Already have Titanium Backup, Froze all the nasty bloatware with it. Any specific kernel you guys recommend for me to download?

[Q] Which ROM to choose?

I've rooted a TouchPad to Android with good success but have never touched my phone (EVO 4G).
I want a ROM that still has sense on it but also one that does the following:
1) Better battery life
2) Any ROM that gets rid of credential storage for Enterprise wifi
3) Allows me to uninstall the stock Sprint apps
Thanks in advance.
Nitrus ROM 1.6.1. Super fast and no stock sprint app.
MIkG 3.11.More stock sprint app, but the useful ones.
Digital karma V7. Based on sense 1 so its very fast, but have the look of snese 4.
I used all three. you should try and pick your own.
I'm currently using Remics-UX from mazdarider. Loving it.
Fast, Smooth, no stock sprint apps, great battery life. Not too sure about the WiFi thing. It is my daily driver.
Thanks for the suggestions. I was going to try a few but since there were SO many I just wanted to find a good one to start off with. Thanks again.

Ok I got Nitrous to work and is running on my phone. One thing I forgot to do is do a backup of the stock HTC/Sprint ROM before I started. How can I go back to do a backup of it?
Don't worry about the back up. I didn't do it and I'm just fine.

Great rom....op mentioned wanting sense though.
Classic or nitrous for sense 1.0
MikG for sense 2.1 with 3.0 elements
Derp3D for sense 3.0
PrimeXL for sense 3.5
Those are some good options. They will all have bloat removed or made removable. Of those, classic is my favourite as it has the most baked in options and performance tweaks.
I'll have to keep monitoring nitrous. The battery seems to be draining faster than it did with my stock rom. I did do a battery calibration though.
