Can I use baked snacks kernel on a different Rom? I'm looking to improve battery life

what? doing the nand backup? that's just in case the kernel doesn't work you can restore to the previous condition your phone was in (so do it before you flash baked's kernel)
I'm not sure if his kernels will work on other roms though, I think I tried once
I've used it on my ROM what ROM are you using that might help.

Yes the kernel can help with battery life. You should be ok with flashing a different kernel and that ROM but as posted do a NAND backup before flashing the kernel.
Does anyone know how good the battery is for baked snacks kernel and does anyone know where I can find his kernel #6 ?

#6 has never been available for download. I used BS 1.7 on NA 4.19 and my battery was day and a half if not better with average use...seriously. I was amazed. I tried all the baked kernels and nothing worked like that.
Now I am on BS 1.8 using the same kernel and not getting near the same batt life.

I have no clue how you guys are doing it, but I have the 1.7 version with kernel 6.
I took it off the charger this morning (after a full charge), it is now almost dead, with very little use.
How do you guys do it? Your not shopping the images are you?
This is a newb question I know, I have searched all over the forums. i have the stock rom and am not interested in any of the roms since most of them seem to not have 4g working or some other things( cant wait until they do!). My question is how do I flash just the kernel? i have never flashed anything before and I just backed up everything with rom manager. thanks!!!

Wipe cache, wipe dalvic, flash like you would a Rom. Don't forget to nand first.
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Edit - I'm assuming there's a specific kernel you have that you want to flash, and you didn't mean how to extract the kernel from a full Rom - also just noticed that you said you already backed up with rom manager. You may want to consider backing up manually through recovery or using amonra instead - nobody seems to know what exactly rom manager wipes when you tell it to wipe.

i think you're misinformed (or haven't searched hard enough) - most, if not all, sense based ROMs have everything working and some (i.e. wireless/usb tether, performance/efficiency tweaks, etc.). it's the cm/aosp roms that don't have everything working (yet).
flashing kernels is similar to flashing roms. there is a plethora of threads on the topic. read some of the stickies and many of your questions will be answered to get you started with flashing roms/kernels.
edit: sorry i never know about this is paid version i tooked from his old xda thread, BTW thanks for let me know about that

here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=653
all roms are there. aosp roms are usually the roms where everything is not working.
general steps to flashing (but always read the post from the developer for any special instructions):
1. download file to sd card
2a. get into recovery (either via quickboot app or via powering down then holding volume down button while powering up)
2b. navigating in recovery - volume keys to change selection, power button to select
3. nand backup
4. wipe data, cache and dalvik (only wipe cache and dalvik if you're flashing a kernel)
5. flash the rom/kernel you downloaded
6. reboot
7. drink beer
if something goes wrong, get back into recovery and restore your nand backup.
hope this gets you started.... but read, read, read.
good luck.
sorry OP - back on topic. did you wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the kernel? what's your up time and awake time (found in settings>about phone>battery). do you have any monitoring apps installed (i.e. system panel, android system info? you may have rogue app.

ok new guy here..well not that new i used the how to that toast made then did the various AmonRA-sp updates all the way up to fresh 3.0
heres the problem (so far):
1.market opens then immediately closes, though this isnt a force close...?idk?
2. my contacts are there but they arent: people isnt working it force closes on me and i i cant recover any phone numbers through google or my sdcard backup.
well those are my problems, again im running the latest Fresh rom used Amon RA and did the apps2sd(the right way)
im really at a loss here fellas, i dont know what to do but im not gonna do anything until i can get some insight into this debacle.
thanks in advance
easy answer.... do it all again
or
dont use fresh
use Evio 1.1 or 1.2
i have tried most of the popular roms and this is by far the best, including the best battery life, stability, compatability, etc.
screw the havs and crap.. i tried those and got the worst battery life EVER from those. 6 hours tops... Evio i can go 2-3 times that, true... i get far farrr better battery life out of a pseudo stock rom than i do all the custom "stuff"
just flash with another rom... fresh is unique in itself and doesnt always play nice with certain other add-on's (from what i have read)
that is why in other threads you see custom builds for people using "fresh roms"
why mess with something that is so unique it requires its own builds for certain things.
so do i have to do apps2sd again
Just wipe your cache and davlick cache
have you tried wiping your cache & dalvik-cache and flashing gapps?
no not yet....gapps? where can i find that...forgive me i dont use forums ever lol
okay tried wiping both caches....same results.
how do i flash gapps? i searched the forums and all i get is the Fresh 3.xxx thread titled GApps and no source on the file itself.

I rooted my evo yesterday, so I am still completely new to how things work. (Though I have read the forums for a while)
I know I can flash a custom rom to fix the 28FPS limit I am getting, but I don't have time to completely wipe my phone and rebuild everything again.
It's kind of looking like I just flash a kernel? but I am not sure and I don't want to brick my phone.
Is there a way to just fix the performance limitations (i.e. FPS limit) and keep my stock 2.2 and all my settings/preferences?
Thank you.
I searched but didn't find anything that made sense.
Phone:
Evo w/ stock 2.2 (UnrEVOked3 root)
You should be able to just flash a custom kernel, but I don't know how those work on plain stock. Make sure you nand first.

Just flash the zip file from recovery. Make sure you do a nand backup before you start flashing the kernel.

Can I flash any kernel? Or how does that work?
I was looking at snap 8.2. Is it compatible with stock & sense?

An important note for Clockwork mod Recovery users:
Clockwork Mod is reportedly not wiping correctly (ie; if you try to wipe cache/dalvik-cache/data/etc it's not actually doing it, or not doing it right)

not wiping correctly may cause your phone to bootloop no matter the kernel(Fresh's seems to be particularly sensitive to it), you should be ok though. If it happens just keep redoing it till it works.
I'm using netarchy's 4.1.9 cfs ATM and it's working great. Smooth as butter.
king kernel is really good, thats what im on right now. medium use: 500+ texts, wifi on, data on, hour of browsing, 30 mins of music playing, live wallpaper. with all that im hitting ~13 hours and im at 8% right now. king kernel is pretty good, nice and smooth too

as for backing up your kernel...i dont know...(didnt know that was possible). once you unlock fps, you'll never want to go back.

There really is no generalization for which is better, BFS or CFS. Every phone is slightly different in build due to margin of error in production. Some people have great results with BFS where others do not. I tried both extensively on Netarchy and much prefer CFS (better performance and battery). Why? I don't know. It just works for me. You will probably have to do some experimenting of your own.
Edit: Also concerning recoveries, I would go ahead and flash Amon_RA's recovery over ClockworkMod just to avoid conflicts. Amon works with everything is very straightforward to use.

you can use rom manager to install ra, but then all you'll be able to use rom manager for is to download roms. Which is still ok - some folks prefer it this way, because some things shouldnt be too easy, if you know what I mean. If you let a tool do all the work, what do you do when that tool breaks or is unavailable, and you have to do it manually?
ra can only be used outside of rom manager. Nands cannot be used between ra and clockwork - if you backup with ra, you need to restore with ra, and if you backup with clockwork, you need to restore with clockwork.

I don't mean to be ambiguous, but it really depends who you talk to. Some people swear by RA, and insist that clockwork doesn't wipe properly. Other people can conclusively prove that clockwork does indeed wipe properly, and use that with no issues. Personally, I use clockwork, but do all my flashing and wiping manually and not through rom manager. The only time I ever had any issues was a while ago, with an older version of clockwork.
I also think that clockwork has the benifit of not requiring signed zips, but don't quote me on that.
edit - just wanted to add that some devs will specify one or the other to be specifically used for whatever it is that you'll be flashing. So if they say to use X to flash, you better try using X to flash before asking why you're having issues
idk im new to trying kernals, but im running fresh 2.2 and im only getting 31-33 fps.
using kinklicks bfs 9 kernal
any help?
I have tried most of the kernels listed. For me, the best has been Netarchy's 4.1.9.1 cfs. It is smooth and has not had a single glitch, which I can't say for the others I have tried. The second best I tried was the Baked snack battery kernel #5.
cfs or bfs? What I found was that bfs gave slightly better benchmark scores than cfs, but I had a lot of odd problems or glitches when running bfs kernels (mainly scrolling lag in some apps, and some apps fcing randomly). haven't had any problems with the cfs kernels. Frankly, I haven't found any advantage to bfs because, while it seems to give better benchmark scores, in actual use it seems much slower and more laggy to me than cfs.
Clockwork or AmonRa recovery? I have used both, only had a problem once (boot loop), and that was with clockwork. Since then, I have always used Amonra's recovery to flash with. When flashing just a kernel just wipe cache and Dalvik cache, then flash the kernel. As long as you do not wipe data (reset) you should not lose anything when you flash the kernel.
Oh, and when you do a nand backup, it backs up the kernel you are currently using with it. So you can easily switch back and forth to test by restoring your backups.

Invisiblek is the way to goon Gingerbread roms. I've flashed his newest with OMFGB 1.1.1, and it is awesome. No problems snappy, excellent battery too!
Sometimes people (including me) mix up AOSP and Sense, sadly they don't like to play with others if you install them with the wrong rom. Racists, pft.
I have only had the phone about a week now so I have had a lot to learn. So far everything seems good now and I am happy. Now if i could just get better battery life lol.

The link you provided is the EVO kernel. Have you tried the Inc kernel?
Evo: http://www.thebcblends.com/cayniarb/Kernels/evo/Tiamat_Evo-v3.3.3-sbc.zip
Inc: http://www.thebcblends.com/cayniarb/Kernels/inc/Tiamat_Inc-v3.3.3-sbc.zip
The zip files have different contents.
EDIT - I just realized the thread you linked has both the Inc and the Evo versions. I saw that it was in the Evo subforum and jumped to the wrong conclusion. In any regard, make sure you are flashing the right one.
I just flashed
Inc: http://www.thebcblends.com/cayniarb/Kernels/inc/Tiamat_Inc-v3.3.3-sbc.zip
and i am still having same problem. Any ideas ?
Edit: Messing around with rooted phones is something I have just started so it maybe something simple I am missing.
Not sure why my cell doesn't seem to like other kernels but
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905873
seems to be doing just fine so i will leave it alone.
Thanks for all the help.
Have you tried Incredikernel? Kernels are really a matter of personal preference, but Incredikernel seems to be one of the best. (And also my favorite.)
I gave it a shot a while back and had trouble. My issue is that he touch screen doesn't respond. Incredikernel is recommended in several places but i had zero luck with it supporting the screen. I have started to wonder if its support for slcd.
I will try it again and see what happens.
For some reason now, my phone won't take kernels anymore. I can install ROM's and everything else, but when i try and flash a different kernel my phone won't keep it. It will reboot fine, but when i go and look in the settings to see if the kernel is there it is not installed. I do the usual clear dalvik and the cache then flash the kernel. It says it installed it, but it doesn't. Has this ever happened to anyone else, and if so how do you fix it? I have also completely wiped the phone and that did not help either. I have a HTC EVO 4g. I hope someone can help me with this problem.

I'm not sure if its just my phone, had this problem for a while now, but when it occurs, i usually just flash another rom, but basically, when it comes to my rom and flashing a rom that comes with a custom kernel, its a no go what so ever, its force close central, and boot loops and all that, no idea why, but my phone just simply doesn't play nice with any custom kernels at all, started with Jellybomb, use to love it, worked perfect, no problems, then when it updated to i believe 10, 11, not precise on what version, and he used a custom kernel, then bam, tried everything, no luck, and couldnt use that rom with my phone anymore, or any other rom that comes with custom kernels, and still cant, and i guess its time to mention it to verify if this happens to anyone else.

where would i find that?, and what specifically does it do?
i dont want to hijack a thread but also dont want to start a new one since there is this one. has any cspire s3 users flashed a different kernel and had success with it. im on the latest pacman rom and want a diff kernel. ive flashed one before and got a softbrick. just curious.
@ IonIcone, Keep the thread to the user that's asking the question.
Search the whole forum first / search it online, if it's a no go on both parts, then start a question
thread of your owns.

KernelCleaner can be downloaded here.

scripted by mattrb, you can thank him for that file.
When using kernels make sure it's for the right version
JB or AOSP. and also make sure its for the right version
4.1.x or 4.2.x
Usually when you're also installing a rom with a dif kernel ( and you CAME from a rom with STOCK kernel )
you'll need to wipe cache and dalvik cache, and re-set permissions via Custom Recovery.
If those don't work, search the original ROM thread for a [Q] of the same as yours and see if there was a fix / reply for that.
If all else fails, contact the dev of the rom with your specific issue.
I've been switching between kernels and JB versions and i've never ran into this issue. Anthrax, K747, Agat's and Stock Optimized.
Have you tried odin flash restore to stock LJ7 and re-installing the rom as well?

I actually tried that same exact kernel cleaner this morning, I searched and found it, had no luck with it though, and for the 'choosing the right kernel', it comes built in with the ROM, its the jelly bomb 14 ROM I'm referring to, also did wipe both caches and fixed permission, still no luck, I want to believe its my phone itself though, because I know it wouldn't be the ROM, I deff trust the ROM and developer obviously, and used his work before, but that's when he didn't use a custom kernel, but when he included the custom kernel built in, I believe jellybomb 10, or 11, then it was the last time I could of flashed any of his Roms, I do remember having similar problems with other Roms that uses custom kernels also, the only kernel my phone plays great with, is the stock optimized, and the cyanogenmon kernels, but ktoons and agats, and even anthrax (when I was using freeza fregs3, just went no go on my device
