Droid 2/Milestone 2 Thread? - About xda-developers.com

Droid 2 and Milestone 2 are out now so can we get a separate section for these? As we already know the Droid 1 is very different from either of these two, so it would benefit us to have a separate section especially when a lot of discussion will be about the bootloader locking and we can only have "ROMs" and no custom kernels.

+1 for this

i agree +1

Well, there is already a separate section for the Droid 2 - it's a section for the Milestone 2 that needs to be added, please.
Cheers,
Steve.

Yup, we definitely need a Milestone 2 section, it's out since a couple weeks here in France

HTC Thunderbolt Kernel

Would it be possible to port the new kernels from the Thunderbolt over to the Evo? I have the new camera hardware on mine and don't know if the Thunderbolt went to the new camera also. If so, they have the Kernel hacked and running up to 1.92 GHz!! Would love to finally have a overclockable kernel for my new hardware phone.

Ofcourse it would be possible to do so, but the Evo couldn't support the kernel because of the Hardware differences between the two.
And I am not trying to Police this thread, but sir all I will tell you is let the trolling begin. I am just warning you of those members, so next time try to post in QandA.

Well, this IS a Evo Development thread!
Hm. I would think this would be an Evo development question, not a Q&A section question. Just my two cents

You are correct, and I understand your posting it here to an extent because a lot of the time some questions get overlooked in Q&A. However, if you look at the last stickied thread in this section there is a post titled:
"Thread DELETED/Locked??? This is DEVELOPMENT section not Q&A/General!!!!"
I am not trying to be a prick, but XDA is a lot more accessible and easier to navigate when things stay organized.

I agree to an extent because it involves development, however the consensus for posting in the Dev section amongst many members is that you are making a contribution. I.E. a Rom or something to download I suppose.

even with there .36 kernel its not safe to overclock to 1.96ghz. that could be set in any kernel now, but you would probably fry your phone.
all evos have the same processors just diffident video stuff.
and unless you want to use sense you would have to port it to work with AOSP, so by the time your done with everything, you might as well stick with the great kernels that work well with 004 and below.

Not sure what's so hard about figuring out where to post questions.
edit: Thread moved, my point was made. Thanks egzthunder1.
Thread moved to Q&A.
The key point is not if it is a Development question, but rather the fact that it is a Question.
WOW! Next time I will post in Q&A.

[Q] Rhe AlphaRevX says it supports The Incredible S not the 2

Are the two similar enough that the exploit will work for the incredible 2 as well?
inb4 I brick my phone by using an unsupported beta exploit
not yet.. even if you wanted to try, you wouldn't be able to. just give them time.
Nope. I tried it, it doesn't work, but they have figured it out and will be releasing it soon in their public release.
The I2 is supported, just not in the public beta. They have, however, successfully unlocked at least one I2 and will be incorporating it in a future version.
search the thread first..our forum moderater is going to go insane..im all for questions, but there is a "droid incredible 2 has s-off" thread in our general section as well as our dev section. Both explain whats goin on in the OP. Just search first. Its the number one rule to xda.
im not trying to come off mean and sorry if i do. but the explanation to whats going on has been written in the forums for like 3 or 4 days i think

[REQ] Separate threads for GSM vs. VZW!

Seriously.... many accessories incompatible between the two, e.g. batteries... can we get separate threads or at least some posting guidelines to identify GSM or VZW?
Yes please!
I second this motion!
Please at least tag posts with [VZW] or [GSM]
Yes please! At least for Accessories!
Problem is most retailers don't even tell you if its make for one or the other. It kinda makes me mad. We just need to be more specific with the titles of threads IMHO.

I think this is very much needed!
I have had a couple other phones that have 2 variants(GSM & CDMA) and the only sub forum I have ever seen them split is the dev section. I don't think they will split the accessories section. We just have to do a better job at tagging the threads as mentioned before.
I agree. I don't like too much separation. I like to easily see whats being done for the other side. The Dev section is hard enough.

New Thread Jelly Bean(JB) for HOX (without disrespect)- OTA/Information/Update/ETAs/

To somewhat control the the masses of Jelly bean threads that are currently arising, I made this thread to collect all talk about it.
Anything related to JB belongs in this thread. We don't want hundreds of threads with the same information, so please use this thread instead.
Please, keep on topic and with respect
I don't see any point in this thread, why making it complicating and splitting it to two threads?
There are about 2-3 pages added to the original thread every day so if you watch it daily, you can controll it easily.
//nevermind, I see that the old one is locked

Well, lets hope this thread soon becomes the one to exchange information about our experiences about JB on our HOXs.
:good:
I hope i can read more sense of jb and sense+ on this new thread without bashing with each other. Just pure updates and news without haters....

No, no, no.
You guys proved how well you can control yourselves in the last JB ETA thread. No more.

Should the Pixel and Pixel XL forms combine?

I also posted this to the Pixel Forum here.
Right now on XDA we have separate forums for the Pixel and Pixel XL. For the first time (that I can think of) we have two identical Android phones in two sizes. I don't know how popular iPhones forums are on XDA but they don't have separate forums for the regular and plus versions. There isn't iPhone forums on XDA.
It seems like both Pixel and Pixel XL forms already have topics covering both devices. What are your thoughts on combining forums?
Added a poll.
I can't even find the Pixel Phone forum on here. Do you mind linking the main forum so I can find it. Thanks.

It is just pixel. It seems fairly dead over there for the phone just being announced. Maybe most of them are in the XL forum.

Combine
While much of the content will be the same, I can see a reason for the separate forums. Accessories will be different sizes. ROMs will have to have some sight differences as well. While accessories and ROMs should be labeled for the appropriate version, some people won't pay attention and cause themselves pain which they will then in turn blame everyone else for.

Yes.
There will be some hw differences, projects won't be cross compatible for the most part. They want to avoid noobs breaking their stuff

All you have to do is use search bar and type Google Pixel there are too. We should not have them combined different motherboards different roms and roots when released. not the same devices
That's a tough choice. I would say merge them but keep the development subforums separate.
Maybe, you should wait for an "iFixit" (or equivalent) evaluation of what is realy inside...
btw; do you have any idea of kernel version : 3.18 or 4.x (new concept without new kernel = pixel (?!)).
These two phones are identical in everything except screen size. The forums should be merged.
Forums should be merged.
Should be easy to use a prefix in the thread title so everyone knows.

well, not exactly.
one has FHD screen, other has QHD (obviously different size as well)
different battery capacity.
It looks like more than 80% of the votes are interested in consolidating the forums. It looks like the concerns would be separating Accessories and Development. Some expressed this could be resolved with separate areas for each device or requiring tags.
@MikeChannon you are the Moderator for the Pixel and Pixel XL forums. Could you weigh in on this? Is this possible to do?

It looks like since the thread was bumped a few more No than Yes votes were cast. What are the moderators opinion on this? If this isn't possible or Mods decide this isn't a good idea please close\lock the thread as needed.
If you voted No would you vote Yes if some criteria was met? Example: Separate Development sections for each device. Please share your opinion.

I'll bring this up with the forum moderators for this forum and see what they think. My personal view is, the Pixel XL and Pixel phones should get a lot of traffic, based on the previous phones, I think 2 forums are warranted. We could get confusion when people are asking questions in the Q&A section for example regarding which phone they ware wanting support for etc. Also we would need to find out if the ROM's have different basis as well, if they did then it would almost certainly need two forums.
Agree with @Stephen ...but there are a few caveats that we need to look at first and unfortunately that can't be done until some development begins. First, are there any nuances in the architecture that differentiate the X from the XL? On the front face, only the display and battery are different, but as we all know that doesn't mean the rest is identical. Maybe there is something buried deep in the kernel or a line in one of the props that may seem miniscule, but throws everything out of wack.
Something that we can possibly look at in the future would be combination, but with some restructure. What I mean here is that we can have the Guides/News, Accessories, Themes/Apps/Mods and QA sections combined, but separate the X and XL Development sections from one another. That will make sure that if you are just asking a general question or need a guide, you can look in the combined section. But if you are looking for a specific ROM build, you will have to go into your specific arena.
Ultimately, we need to get devices in hand and a better analysis of the system dumps that we currently have. Those will tell the tale.
Oh and someone said something about the Search Bar. That made my day. I think that I have to log off now since my keyboard is soaked with my tears of laughter and I don't want to short it out and have to explain why to IT.
